Tilikum's Last Splash - A Tribute

  • Опубліковано 6 січ 2017
  • On January 6, 2017 Tilikum finally passed away after months of illness. He is finally free after living in captivity for approximately 35 years.
Tilikum educated the world during his lifetime on the horrors of keeping orcas in captivity. He was kept in isolation for much of his life, first in a module at Sealand of the Pacific then at SeaWorld Orlando. This resulted in him causing the death of three people: Keltie Byrnes, Daniel Dukes and Dawn Brancheu. Rest in Peace Tilikum.
Let's not let Tilikum's life or death be in vain. We have to continue to fight for those that are still held in captivity so that one day they can life out the rest of their lives in sea pens.

Tilikum is now free of the indignity of captivity. Had he been left in the wild, where he belongs, his life could have been so different. I am totally in support of the establishment of seaside sanctuaries to allow ex-captive marine mammals the chance to live a life of some normality - to retire gracefully. Surely we owe them that much having taken them from their families in the wild and making them live with artificial 'families' in a concrete tank?

I am lucky, I have been able to see him on a continuing basis since his first arrival to Orlando Sea World. It's a great loss for all those who came to love this magnificent orca and for the children, grand children and great children who may never have an opportunity to learn what magnificent creatures orca's truly are.

You don't have to see orca in captivity to learn about them. In fact, an orca in captivity are nothing like orcas in the wild. Look at how many children love and learn about dinosaurs.

    • @CllConnie
      @CllConnie 6 років тому +6

Oh, Gayle, my blood runs cold reading your post. It is because of all the people who paid their money to look at something that is completely artificial, the same as the dancing bears in Russia, and made Seaworld nothing but money. They did not care about the orcas one bit. Just one example: anyone who has read a single thing about whales knows they are creatures who communicate with each other. Ships in the ocean are encouraged to run as quietly as possible because NOISE is harmful to whales! What about Seaworld?? Couldn't find a place that would hurt your ears or your head more than that place, and especially when the whale shows were on!!

I never seen his tail in other videos like that but I am going to check.

E muito triste ver um animal deste tamanho preso em um tanque. Como deve ser estressante para eles, ter um oceano imenso para ser livres e estão ali em um tanque preso e ter que fazer coisas para bando de turistas. O ser humano so pensa em si mesmo.

I think the last four years of his life was spent in the back of the park in a small tank.

RIP tilikum and all the other whales that have died at seaworld these whales should not be in captivity for the pleasure to perform in front of crowds they belong in the sea as God intended.

I’ve heard that the dorsal fin bent way over means the animal is in a great deal of stress. I hope Tillikam is at peace, now. I don’t believe he meant to kill Dawn but something just went horribly wrong.

That is Trua, who was often put with him to "keep him company" since he was often left drugged and isolated.

What will happen to Trua? He must be traumatized now that Tilli is gone. Does anyone know the circumstances of Tilli's death - was he found dead, or were any of the trainers with him when he died? There is talk of killing him for the insurance...

Whilst Seaworld hasn't provided any information on the necropsy yet, about a year before his death (early 2016) Seaworld mentioned that Tilikum was suffering from a chronic bacterial lung infection that could one day lead to his death. He had been sick on and off for the last few years of his life with multiple bouts of pneumonia. I suspect he was being kept in the med pool under observation at his time of death as the trainers and vets would have known he was close to death. Seaworld released this statement “The SeaWorld family is deeply saddened to announce that one of its most well-known orcas, Tilikum, has passed away,” it read. “Tilikum passed away early this morning surrounded by the trainers, care staff and veterinarians that provided him around-the-clock world-class care.”

Trua will carry on living his life in captivity like the remaining living orcas, he will get over the loss of Tilikum just like humans get over the loss of a person. I hope that Seaworld finally come to their senses and give these last remaining orcas in captivity a chance of freedom by releasing them into sea pens so they can have more enrichment and experience a more natural environment. That is something Tilikum never had a chance to experience after being taken from the wild to perform in the Seaworld circus.

Romulan2469 Thank you so much for replying. I too hope that Seaworld will do the right thing and have all their orcas released into sea pens.

メKawaiiYanderleeメ tail is natural for his size but his dorsal fin was caused by being out of water to much that is rarely seen in the wild
