- Driving Downtown Neighborhoods - Nob Hill - San Francisco California USA - Episode 14.
Starting Point: California Street - goo.gl/maps/s3MzN8uLjjk . Neighborhood: Nob Hill - goo.gl/maps/7yRKqi7LxwC2 .
Nob Hill is a neighborhood in San Francisco, California. Nob Hill is an affluent district, home to many of the city's upper-class families as well as a large young urban professional population, and a growing Chinese immigrant population from Chinatown to the east. Nob is disparaging British slang abbreviation of "noble/nobility" referring to the monied, often titled upper-classes.
San Francisco
San Francisco (SF), officially the City and County of San Francisco, is the cultural, commercial, and financial center of Northern California. It is the most densely settled large city in the state of California and the second-most densely populated major city in the United States after New York City.
A popular tourist destination, San Francisco is known for its cool summers, fog, steep rolling hills, eclectic mix of architecture, and landmarks, including the Golden Gate Bridge, cable cars, the former Alcatraz Federal Penitentiary, Fisherman's Wharf, and its Chinatown district. San Francisco is also the headquarters of five major banking institutions and various other companies such as Levi Strauss & Co., Gap Inc., Salesforce.com, Dropbox, Reddit, Square, Inc., Dolby, Airbnb, Weebly, Pacific Gas and Electric Company, Yelp, Pinterest, Twitter, Uber, Lyft, Mozilla, Wikimedia Foundation, and Craigslist. It has several nicknames, including "The City by the Bay", "Fog City", "San Fran", and "Frisco", as well as older ones like "The City that Knows How", "Baghdad by the Bay", "The Paris of the West", or simply "The City". As of 2016, San Francisco is ranked high on world liveability rankings.
The last 20 years have seen two booms driven by the internet industry. First was the dot-com boom of the late 1990s, startup companies invigorated the San Francisco economy. Large numbers of entrepreneurs and computer application developers moved into the city, followed by marketing, design, and sales professionals, changing the social landscape as once-poorer neighborhoods became increasingly gentrified. Demand for new housing and office space ignited a second wave of high-rise development, this time in the South of Market district. By 2000, the city's population reached new highs, surpassing the previous record set in 1950. When the bubble burst in 2001, many of these companies folded and their employees were laid off. Yet high technology and entrepreneurship remain mainstays of the San Francisco economy. By the mid 2000s (decade), the social media boom had begun, with San Francisco becoming a popular location for tech offices and a popular place to live for people employed in Silicon Valley companies such as Apple and Google.
Economy
San Francisco has a diversified service economy, with employment spread across a wide range of professional services, including financial services, tourism, and (increasingly) high technology.
Tourism and Conventions
Tourism is one of the city's largest private-sector industries, accounting for more than one out of seven jobs in the city. The city's frequent portrayal in music, film, and popular culture has made the city and its landmarks recognizable worldwide.
Sports
Major League Baseball's San Francisco Giants have played in San Francisco since moving from New York in 1958. The San Francisco 49ers of the National Football League (NFL) were the longest-tenured major professional sports franchise in the city until moving in 2013.
Culture and Contemporary Life
Although the Financial District, Union Square, and Fisherman's Wharf are well-known around the world, San Francisco is also characterized by its numerous culturally rich streetscapes featuring mixed-use neighborhoods anchored around central commercial corridors to which residents and visitors alike can walk.
Beaches and Parks
Several of San Francisco's parks and nearly all of its beaches form part of the regional Golden Gate National Recreation Area, one of the most visited units of the National Park system in the United States with over 13 million visitors a year.

Nice video...
But some audio background would have been nice...like a soft music ...or maybe u talking a little bit
Hey J Utah, can you tell us what camera or dashcam you use for these? Thanks!
Yes, the image is so clear, you can almost make out all the discarded needles the homeless people toss on the side of the roads.

It's so charming to travel with You Tube. It's so cheap.
Lol
But, you're not traveling. You're watching a video.
Craig Gomez great sense of humor you have...
@@craigjgomez same feeling
😂😂💯💯
Title should be "SF 4k (rent)" lol.
San Francisco has to have some of the steepest roads in the U.S!
The videos dont do it justice...They are steep! :)
65 percent incline in some places
You know they are steep when a staircase is in the place of a sidewalk such as the streets near Coit tower.
Even Seattle wa has steep streets
And when I go down the steep streets its scary cause its to steep and people can hit the gas paddle and go very fast down the steep streets and before u go down the steep streets u hit the gas paddle and go very fast once u go fast u the car goes fly a little cause the amount of speed u go down the steep streets that's what happens when go down fast the steep streets
Planet of America ☹️☹️💛💛. you are so lucky if you are a citizen to this beautiful country .. peace From Saudi Arabia 🙏🏻🙏🏻.

The sign actually means the high five.
i left my heart in san francisco..
Love it there :)
DG There's a similar city in charm down in Ecuador - South America.
It's Cuenca City, where many American and European retirees move to.
and i hang my hat in tennesee
And I left my phone in San Francisco.
That's nice a lot of people just leave a pile of shit or a used needle or both
Thank you so very much for posting this! I was born and raised in the S.F. Bay Area. When I left in 1995 (employers relocation, to Florida), I never thought that I would miss this, but I do. To me, living in northeast FL is like living on another planet. I never really got used to it, especially the weather. I don't know if I could ever move back to the Bay Area, because it's changed so much and is too expensive. This brings back such sweet memories.
You can go back and see the poop and drug needles right there on the street any time you’d like
I am Japanese and junior high school student. I have never been to abroad.but I know there.
Because I walked there in game of GTA SA. I wanna go there.
巨漢の猫好き hahaha same bro
Agreed
You are welcomed here
As long as your White or Asian you will be welcomed in San Francisco

WOW! Talk about deja vu! Driving down California Street, I see my old office building and kitty-corner, the World-HQ-Bank of America Building, Montgomery St., Tadich Grill where I lunched often, on down to Sansome, Battery, Kearny -- thanks for bringing back a lot of old memories! I felt like I was driving down California St. again! The streets look the same, the people look a bit different -- can't say I miss it 20 years later, although I'll always love San Francisco!
wow ,walking on the streets of SF is quite a challenge .Especially walking up the streets it takes a good physical shape
Mountain building and infrastructure are immediately visible everything is made of high quality. Bravo architecture
Beautiful city :)
J Utah's "downtown" videos offer an extraordinary documentary record of the contemporary American cityscape. The crystal-clear photography, unmarred by windshield reflection or dirt, allows us to virtually glide through urban scenes from San Francisco to New York to Annapolis, MD to Key West, FL. No, this isn't virtual reality in the sense that you can look above, below, and behind you, but it's the closest thing, short of actually being there, to the experience of moving through the arteries and veins of a great city and viewing both its iconic structures and its characteristic civic, shopping, and business areas, with images so sharp that you can easily read the names of streets on the signs. Of course, there are Starbuckses and Chipotles everywhere, but as J Utah reveals, each city also has its unique architectural, regional, and personal touches ("Blue Lives Matter" graffiti spotted on an overpass in downtown Pittsburgh) that are a delight to see. Every turn, every 500 yards traveled, opens up new and often unexpected vistas. I view these videos while exercising on the treadmill; and besides making the time fly by, they allow this 74-year old to "travel" around the country without having to incur the time, effort, and cost of actually doing so. Thanks to J Utah for enabling us to do this. My only suggestion: editing out any red light footage longer than 10 seconds would be a minor but welcome deviation from experiencing (and enduring) the "real" thing.
Really appreciate this feedback Larry! Out of all the things I spend my time doing, this project is a favorite. Its an honor that people enjoy these videos and ones like yourself leave comments like this!! Regarding the traffic lights, I think I've got a solution to that which ill put together soon. Again - Thank you!! :)
Sir why is your comment an essay? You realize there’s a thing called informal typing right weirdo??
Beautifully said. Do you also enjoy views of suburban roads as well?
It doesn't look busy!
Love J Utah but Man Francisco is in shambles:
www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-5914425/Big-convention-cancels-meeting-San-Francisco-citys-problems-homelessness-drug.html
I lived on Nob Hill for 20 years, from '74 thru '94. This was a sentimental stew. Thanks.
Love this, gave me an insight of how truly this city is like. San Fran is one of my top favorite cities in USA. Never been there though. But i will visit one day very very soon, for sure.
If you want to see the real San Francisco, visit the tenderloin district.
joseph de la cruz how is one district the “real San Francisco” you’re crazy!
Thanks for taking the time out of your trips to record these videos and posting them for us. Really very cool work and it's much appreciated 👍
Thank you! I never thought I'd miss SF, having grown up there, in the 1950s, and off and on as teen and adult through the mid '70s; l was always wanting to escape to warm sunshine across the Bay in the summer. The foggy climate depressed me. But now I'd like to go back just to see it again. I appreciate the nostalgic video trip!
I found this video to be so relaxing! Almost fell out of my chair from falling asleep Lol. Thanks for sharing!
Thank you for driving around our beautiful City. That's a capital C in City.
Oh man, brings back memories of my childhood, born and raised. It's been over 30years, since I've been gone, watching this, I want to come back home, one last time. #IMissSanFrancisco 😣😩
I miss San Francisco with all my heart, and I actually left my heart in San Francisco at the Holy Cross Cemetery in Daly City_ when mother went to be with the Lord God in her Soul Essence.❣🕊
@Richard Desousa Go back where?
Actually, Holy Cross Cemetery is in the City of Colma. So, you need to go get your heart and hold on to it. Metaphorically, it's really not your heart but the love you feel for something or someone. While much is made about homeless and the like, if you open your eyes, San Francisco is more a spiritual experience than a place on a map. In fact, it's the coastline that will take your breath away. From Fort Point south to Santa Cruz, we locals call it Paradise.
Thank you so much for that video, I used to live in the Bay Area (Walnut Creek) for 27 years and I worked for quite awhile in the city at Embarcadero Center One on the 34th floor. What a view and on real windy days you could feel the building sway. Driving in the City used to be a lot of fun with all those hills...and, of course, Lombardo the most famous street of them all. Live on the West Coast of Florida now but I miss San Francisco and the Bay Area so much and the foothills - Florida is sooo flat!
Thanks for your time making this video and posting it.
Thank you for introducing San Francisco, a beautifully arranged slope town!!...^^/// from Kyoto JPN!
(美しく整った坂の街、サンフランシスコをご紹介いただきありがとうございます!)日本の京都から!
Those hills are fascinating... one of the reasons I love SF... Really wanna go and live there someday...
offshore fisherman these “illegal aliens” follow the laws more than actual citizens in case you didn’t know
No you dont it is crazy
In solch einer traurigen trostlosen Stadt? Wo sin die Menschen?Wo?
I love you San Francisco! 19 years together! Thanks for the vid.
I miss The City, such amazing architecture. Thanks for the drive ♥
I visited for the first time last week in a rental car--my doctor says my pulse rate should be back to normal around Christmas
Better than NYC though.
I love this video! I drove a cargo van all over SF for Project Open Hand from 2001-2007 delivering meals, so this video brings back memories. Haven't been to the City since then. As soon as the tech companies all go belly up and the rents go down I'll move back there.
very good video, very clear well done, Love the Hills of Sanfransico !
Very nice memories related with these streets and fabulous city!
Hypnotic. I thoroughly enjoy your videos. Please don't stop. Thank you. :)

I like watching this video because I was born here and it reminds me of it.Now I live in Georgia and I miss San Francisco. But I love seeing all the comments about people's opinions of it!
Thank you for your video. I like to travel with you to the cities of America. Magic picture.
Some day soon, I will live in this beautiful city!!! When it happens I will make comment 👍
Kay Ko it’s not as great here as you think
@Kristo Papa but it is home..
Kay Ko Good luck with the skyrocketing rent prices and the high taxes...
@@kristopapa8618 Ik, it is run by liberals and they just let homeless people shit on the streets. It has such a good potential and location, but has turned into a slum bc it is ran by the wrong people.
I would bother to bring my cousins here when homelessness is no more, this city was beautiful without homelessness
This is so mezmerizing! I really felt like I was in the car. I could have watched for another 22 minutes at least!
great video thank you, the city I love...
Thanks for the video, I was last there in the mid 90s on holiday from England. Loved the city, food & its history. Will go again one day.👍
So beautiful i love san francisco
Thanks;great to see it all again.
I lived there for 30 years and loved it.You brought back some wonderful memories. Thank you! Was I sorry I had to move? You bet! Your photography was superb and so were your comments. You truly captured the flavor of San Francisco.
Wo sind denn die Menschen? Wo?
Very nice quality! Love it!
I'm a hermit and I appreciate these videos.

Thank you for taking the time to put it up on UA-cam 👍
So many good memories.
Great trip. Thank you
I remember walking to North Beach to play some basketball. Then walking backing home, mostly uphill. Clean up and rest a bit, then walk down Broadway St to play pool all night at the El Matador. Good times. Good memories. Good shape!

Live in nob hill since 2011 and I enjoy every second
Those crossroads you approach from downhill are insane... Friend of mine had to pull himself upwards on the wheel to see into the intersection when we were driving through.

Ein wunderschönes Video toll gemacht weiterhin good San Francisco Video 🎥🎥🎥🎥🎥greetings from Germany Rhein side Düsseldorf
Quantas Saudades cinto dessa cidade maravilhosa! País maravilhoso. l love San Francisco.
Warum? Da laufen doch nirgendwo Menschen! Sieht trostlos und traurig aus! Sieht aus als wenn dort NUR das Geld zählt nicht der Mensch!
It's my home town! I've walked most of that area countless times. My only quibble is I would have taken a left off Jones onto Post and ended it at Powell Street - Union Square. Otherwise, nicely done!
Man, I just love this hilly city! :) There are not too many cities to have so many hills to go up and down, up and down. :D
Looks great!
Welcome back I just saw a Florida video yesterday lol glad to see more ☺
Good to hear from you! Cheers :)
As a real estate development attorney my passion is the built environment. Your videos inspire me when I feel burnt out. Keep up the good work! Good to see you back!

Well at least you showed the nicer areas looked like Nob Hill, Financial District, North Beach and stayed away from the Tenderloin.
The last part was the Tenderloin.

RUSSIAN EXPLORERS FROM ALASKA TRAVELING SOUTH DOWN THE PACIFIC COAST MET SPANISH EXPLORERS WHICH WERE COMMING FROM ATLANTIC COAST. THEY SPENT TIME TOGETHER IN VERY FRIENDLY RELATIONS DISCUSSING HOW TO SET BETWEEN SPAIN AND RUSSIA DISCOVERED NEW LAND. RUSSIAN LEADER IN THAT RESEARCH EVEN MARRIED SPANISH GIRL FROM SPANISH GROUP OF DISCOVERERS. UNFORTUNATELLY RUSSIAN CZAR WHO WAS SEMI IDIOT GAVE UP ALASKA AND WHOLE DISCOVERED COAST SOUTH OF ALASKA AND SPANISH RESEARCHERS HAD NO ENOUGH MEN AND WEAPON POWER TO PROTECT THEIR DISCOVERED PART OF CALIFORNIA FROM AMERICAN AGRESSORS WHO CHASED THEM FRON RIGHTFULLY APROPRIATED TERITORY FOR SPAIN.

All mine Life how many genders are there in California now
Lots of Toyota Prius hybrids in San Francisco as usual. I bet they get awesome mpg at city due all those steep hills when braking keeps recharging batteries.
Drivers are so lucky San Francisco streets don't get covered in ice.
Ive thought the same thing :)
KingPlaya still a terrible city to drive in.
Try to drive a manual car in SF lol
We have pretty similar hills in Kyiv, but covered in ice and snow (even right now in March). And many cars are with manual transmission. Welcome to winter hell lol

Excellent.
Beautiful
I love ur videos

Another nice job, J.
Thanks :)
We’re going to San Francisco tomorrow for four days! We go twice a year but it’s been over a year since we’ve been there during my birthday. Despite with the negative news about San Francisco, we still love it there. So much to see and shop and great food! And much cooler from where I live in the Central Valley! 😁
Beautiful city
Nossa muito lindo, tenho amiga q.mora aí, mas perdi o contato, parabéns a quem filmou nota mil, ficou excelente em 4k
I really miss this street.. please take me back to 2017 June when i was in SF
Thanks for sharing. Very impressive hills but also how you have no internal windscreen reflections. Well done.
Surely your town is very nice and I pray to those who plan for it to be the way it is now, God bless America with its citizens as a whole🇺🇸👍
I remember the " Hungry Eye club where good jazz was played, it was on the corner of Turk and Hyde.
