Your TX16S videos have been indispensable in setting up my new radio. Thanks! Most if it (OpenTX and the TX16S) is making sense except two things. 1) I'm coming from Spektrum systems which are, of course, TAER. In OpenTX Companion radio profile I've set my transmitter to be TAER. But I note that in the Inputs tab it's still AETR, same with the Mixes and Outputs tabs. But the servos are properly mapped in the plane. So where is this re-mapping happening? From everything I can see in Companion and the TX16S channel 1 is aileron, etc. (AETR), so why aren't my channels swapped around incorrectly on the receiver, which is TAER? 2) Changing 'Default Channel Order' doesn't seem to change anything. I've changed it back and forth from TAER to AETR and the Input channels always go AETR in a new model. The new model wizard always defaults to ch 3 for throttle as well, even if I've set the radio up for TAER. I want to understand what's going on in Companion and the radio, not just shrug and say "oh well, it works".
Hey Jessie, short answers are: 1) the channel order only affects models created after the change. The order in the Mixer screen dictates the order of the channels unless you are using one of the protocols like DSM that has a set order then the radio sorts that all out for you. 2) See answer to 1 :D Check out the MPM common questions video for more..
On Deviation TX (Jumper T8 v2), there is an option on a sub-protocol of dsm that reads "orange rx". When you select that option and bind the radio and the rx, the orange light inside the rx will go solid. If you do not select this option, you keep getting micro fail safes and the orange light inside the rx will sort of flash in the weird way we see in this video. I'm not sure how to select this particular "orange rx" option in Open Tx.

Is it true that the TX16s Multiprotocol will NOT work with Frsky ACCESS (have heard that may be a propriety protocol) receivers like R-XSR , or do you just need to flash the receiver to make it work? I’m trying to bind to one of my Spektrum receivers and have a problem. With the esc connected to the throttle connection on the receiver it will not bind. It will however bind with the esc connected to the aileron connection on the receiver. So I set everything up using the gear connection on the receiver for ailerons and everything works. This is ok but now I’ve discovered there is no fail safe setting available in the transmitter menu and when I turnoff the transmitter everything stays at last instruction including the throttle. Have I connected something wrongly or is this a software problem. I hope you can help as I bought the transmitter so that I would only need one but it seems I may have been mistaken.
Problem sorted. It was because I’d used the default Module Satus. I had used channel numbers in the order they are on the receiver ie throttle on channel 1, aileron on channel 2 etc. I should have used AETR for the channel numbers ie aileron on channel 1, elevator on channel 2 etc. The failsafe is now working correctly.
2 question that have been bothering me.maybe u can help. 1st,IS it normal that i lose signal (rssi lost) when my radio is within a couple inches from plane/reciever?.it does this with differant recievers that i have bound..As soon as i pull radio away from plane, rssi recovers. 2nd,my spektrum recievers light flickers as yours did when bound. They do not do that when bound to my spektrum radio.thanx sean..
my local hobby shop told me that if i bought the tx16s transmitter it wont bind in a receiver that has as3x and safe technology and if it did it wont be functional is that correct? or was he just trying to upsell to on buying a spektrum transmitter. please help
Thanks for you help. Seem to have bound to scout ok. When I bind to Tundra, I get no throttle. Should the model dance on switch on.. doesn't seem to. Perhaps I haven't bound correctly though other surfaces are working. I'm binding orange receiver via dsm auto and I get aileron, rudder, elevator correctly, but no throttle.
Spektrum kit normally uses TAER channel order not AETR. See my MPM quick tips on how that all works - ua-cam.com/video/Nii4ElEbg6s/v-deo.html - that may help..
Hello! Do you know if its possible to set throttle trim button on a 3 pos swich, max trim, trim center and min trim? I want that function to kill the Idle on my nitro plane. All your tutorials är great! Thanks!
I have a Radiomaster tx16s and I have had problems binding a 10 channel Lemon dsmp receiver. [All my other DSM receivers have bound and worked without a problem]. It bound ok but only giving 7 channels not 10! I was binding using DSM and sub-protocol AUTO and I made a point of setting channels 1-10 but what ever I tried and what ever sub protocol I used, it always reverted to only 7 channels. The tx was about 3 meters from the rx so closeness was not the problem. I was totally frustrated but eventually after an internet search, I set 1 to 10 channels, Sub-protocol AUTO but I found a setting a few lines lower down the page that said "Auto detect format". I turned that off and the 10 channel rx bound perfectly giving all 10 channels. I wonder if I am the only person the know about this.
When I bound my dsmx srxl2 to my tx16s it seems the channel inputs aren’t right. The end points don’t use the full stick throw. Not sure how to fix this. Makes it seem like my rates are super slow.

Hello, I'm trying to bind a RX8R-pro receiver to TX16S and the only way I could do it is with telemetry OFF option. If I have it set to ON, at the end of the binding process I have red light on RX and green light sometimes blinks. Do you by any chance know that that is? I tried re-flashing RX with v1, v2 and v.2.1 firmware. Tx and internal module are both up to date.
No idea. If it works on the other receivers then maybe it is something specific to that Rx. I've not got one here to test so let me know if you get it working..
@@Painless360 Thanks. I think I found the issue. Looks like it's the power supply - when telemetry is off the RX uses less power and work ok; when telemetry is on, the RX turns on the internal telemetry transmitter, uses more power and the current supply drops... Anyway, thanks for your comments!

TAER etc. is the default channel order that is sent to the receiver and you can see that order in the MIXER screen on the radio. On a standard PWM receiver that dictates what channels come out of which PWM slot on things like FrSky (i.e. Thr = CH1, Ail = Ch2 etc.). Some systems like Spektrum have a set order (TAER) so they need and multi-protocol radios do all of the clever stuff for you to remap the channels on the radio to be the ones that the specific receiver is expecting. Is it possible to use receivers with JR DSMJ protocol? I couldn't use it.
Hi. I have 2 FrySky X6R receivers on two of my RC boats but my latest boat has Spektrum DSMR. Can the RadioMaster bind to DSMR ? SL315 receiver ?
This video shows you how to figure that out - ua-cam.com/video/DfKyx0yTbXU/v-deo.html - best of luck!
@@Painless360Hi. I just bought a MKII MAX. If I want to bind my RX8R FrySky receiver with telemetry on and on 9ms mode what sub protocol do I choose for the RadioMaster for ACCST V1 firmware on the receiver ? I don't need 16 channels I only need 8. I won't be using redundancy either. Should my RC boat servos be connected to PPM output or SBUS ?
Is it true that the TX16s Multiprotocol will NOT work with Frsky ACCESS (have heard that may be a propriety protocol) receivers like R-XSR , or do you just need to flash the receiver to make it work? Would be nice to see some kind of TX16s/receiver compatibility matrix. Thanks for all the great content!

Hi. Nice video. Just a question concerning the tx16s transmiter performance. What about the range of this radio with this dsm receiver?. I purchased this radio and I wonder if the power trasmision is so good as a original spektrum radio....I have several orange dsmx receivers and one original spektrum receiver. Hiya there! i've got the same setup as you at 8:40, however my X8R is not binding. Mine also says FrSkyX, not just FrSky for the RF Module...? ANyway, it doesn't bind.
TX is on, then i hold the F/S button on the X8R, turn on the power, then I click bind on the remote... nothing. none of the FrSky protocols seem to want to bind. any fix?

Hi Lee. Am looking for a first time tx. Is this the one or any other suggestions to a simple beginner (ex 30 year ago flyer) TIA
Most of the popular radios are OpenTX powered now and that can be a little overwhelming for a newer pilot to program and setup. I have covered my favourite options in the Kit Picks 2020 video that does cover the non OpenTX options for newer pilots too. I hope that helps..
Thanks for your prompt reply…I’ve tried with three receivers…AR8000, AR6210 and AR7010. I’ll let you know if I find the cause.

They do not do that when bound to my spektrum radio.thanx sean..

my local hobby shop told me that if i bought the tx16s transmitter it wont bind in a receiver that has as3x and safe technology and if it did it wont be functional is that correct? or was he just trying to upsell to on buying a spektrum transmitter. please help
As those receivers use standard Spektrum protocols that this radio probably supports I'd question that one ;)
It finds dsm 2 , 22ms.
I have throttle notifying 0-100 on the monitor, but no action.
Set on ch3.
Spektrum kit normally uses TAER channel order not AETR. See my MPM quick tips on how that all works - ua-cam.com/video/Nii4ElEbg6s/v-deo.html - that may help..

I'd check out the wiki in case others have reported it. If not, then make sure you are on the latest versions and report a bug. Best of luck!

How do you get more than 8 channels on your receiver? If you are using a plane that needs more than 8 channels.
Like ailerons on each channel, flaps and want to add smoke and retracts.
You can bind multiple recovers to the radio or use something like an SBUS to PWM converter (among other options). Best of luck!
@Painless360 where do I find this information? I've looked and looked but not much luck. I did find one video where a guy bound a 8 channel and a 6 channel to get 14 channels. I didn't know you could bind 2 receivers for total of 14 Channels.

@@Painless360 I have flashed Rx8Rpro with Accst 1, same result.
@@Painless360 About V2 support. As far as I know, FrSky X2 protocol supports ACCST v2, and works on my xsr radios, so that should not be an issue.

Thanks - just difficult as there's no one really to actually talk to - my friend flies DJI FPV systems, and that makes the two of us that fly RC in this little town.
TAER etc. is the default channel order that is sent to the receiver and you can see that order in the MIXER screen on the radio. See ua-cam.com/video/Nii4ElEbg6s/v-deo.html

Just got a used eflite plane with an AR6310 rx. It binds OK with all servos working but refuses to calibrate the esc. Any ideas?
What ESC? What troubleshooting have you already done?
@@Painless360 it's an eflite 10a esc. Works ok with another rx. With the ar6310 spectrum rx. It will go into esc calibration mode but it won't activate. When throttle stick is moved from max to min nothing happens. On the monitors the lowest stock position indicates -100
Tricky to help without knowing the exact part number so I can look up the manual. It sounds like you've calibrated a throttle before so just remember that for many ESCs, waiting too long to pull the throttle down to zero after powering on with the throttle at 100% can mean that the ESC enters programming mode. Best of luck
