- Hey goblins and thanks for tuning in! In today’s video, Dylan talks about some of the ways that alters (in people with dissociative disorders) can get their names.
Because we can’t count how many times we’ve seen posts in Facebook groups, asking how alters get their names.

Most of our alters tell us their names like it’s just fact wether they like it or not, some choose their names, other times one names another, most of the time though, they just already know their names.

I believe I may be part of an OSDD-1b system and I am seeing a professional about it. (Still not sure). One of the littles is named Carl, and I was thinking "Carl. I don't know any Carl. why Carl? that's a weird name." But he kept insisting that his name is Carl, so I went with it. He's such a bean though...
It's the exact same situation for us except the littles name is Raymond!
A couple people in our system have slightly more "unusual" names (examples include Minty, October and Cyan) but I think they're super cool :) alter names can be so interesting sometimes.. - Toby/Snail

Thank you for talking about a part of DID that sadly is still too often taboo to talk about yet crucial and so important: some abusers want to cause DID on purpose. In an early video you also shared that you are a survivor of these things. I am too. Please consider making a video on this. You handle it very well. Thanks!

i collect names like shiny rocks
most came with them, though one of us came with a name and then shortened it (still her full name but no one calls herself that) and one spent months just being called by their role before they found a name they liked
of all the names we have though... all of them are nouns. literally all of them. i'm just realizing this. wtf. /lh
Names come out of no where in our system we have maybe like 90 or more of us. So manes get very strange for example we have a alter names “it’s a human” we call him human for short. Is he human. Nope! When he first came into the system we asked him if he had a name or if he wanted to chose one he kept saying it’s a human that’s all I am not telling you my name. Eventually that become his name “it’s a human” funny part is like I said before he isn’t even human he is just a blob of smoke that can shape shift into any living thing. Others change there name over time. Sometimes it because they just straight up grew out of it or didn’t feel like it suited them anymore. Other times it’s the fact that they had a gender change. For another example we have a girl in our system named lele she was born into a males body in the inner world but she decided that wasn’t her and changed her name and her look. I am not going to say her dead name since there is really no need. Names come about in our system and some times they are normal and other times they are far far from normal but as long as people are semi happy with it who cares 😊
Oh also “it’s a human” is only like 12 so you can’t expect a 12 year to have to best of judgment 😅
Can you please make a video about struggling to deal with life with DID and not feeling like you can talk to to the people around you because they won’t understand or don’t understand. I’m always looking okay on the outside but nobody really knows the turmoil I’m going through inside of my head with my other parts. It’s so lonely. I feel like whatever I say to my family goes in one ear and out the other and they act like they take me seriously and they really don’t. I’ve only talked about my DID a few times but I feel alone 😔

We were covert very late dx. Our gatekeeper mostly named everyone as they came onboard. After dx some decided they wanted to pick their own.

Okay, so one of us had a quick question, can an alter tell the other alters that come in to hide themselves? Or just keep the alters hidden from the host. We've been wondering this for a while now as the older alter we have (meaning the one that we have known to be around the longest) has been here from the start but our host didn't find out till around his last birthday about us when he tried to lucid dream and ended up in our forest actually talking to us. Happy to meet you, Dylan. Thank you and the systems for another informative video. I'm glad you're getting through whatever issues are on the other side of the screen and doing well. I'm happy to hear of some integrations going on, though I do hope they've been voluntary by the system and the alters involved.
Alters names are unique or as common as any person's.
We've recently had an alter change their name. It used to be Twist (Short for Twisted) to something he personally remembered. We also have 2 Henry's in our system though one goes by "Happy Henry" which thanks to our partner was shortened. Our most interesting alters' names are Gruh'gorahg (Gr-Uh Go-Rag) and Verr'ik (Vare-Us). How is it pronounced that way? Hell if we know.

How to even know how many parts you have? My head is spinning like a carousel! I cant tell!! Every one is ME but in different emotions and age, I think! I can feel when I switch but I dont know to whom I switch to! Some alters/ parts I do know( think we are moore than 14) I hate this!🥺🙏😭
We came up with frat names for everyone in case we need to keep are names secret at some point

As an alter who isent the host when do you feel like you were born. I don't really know how to ask my question I just don't know anything about DID. I gess I'm just asking about how the age stuff works, because I know there are littles but can they be older? And do you remember when you first like where made I gess. Also what do you guys do when not fronting? Sorry if I'm asking alot of questions, not trying to be rude, just trying to understand I gess.
Is it normal for alters to choose names of classmates that they look the most similar to?
That could be their way of making themselves seem more familiar and less intimidating, which is kinda sweet if you think about it 😆

I stg mine make up their own names. The ones that do have names. And they are strange and embarrassing to me. And sometimes their names change 🤷🏻♀️
When our alter Tenebris was looking for their name they literally went to Google translate and were just translating random words they vibed with into Latin and then they learned that Tenebris means darkness and that’s their name now.
I also suffer from split personality disorder because i was physically, emotionaly and mentally abused by my father and i felt like i needed a supportive brother figure. The name of my split personality is Robert Kavanaugh and he has always looked out for me and he always wants to protect me. It was hard at first but know i have learned to live with it and me and Robert ard like brothers.

We have four wolves named the same name. Our alters just automatically know whitch one we are trying to communicate with when we say their name
How do you not culturally appropriate if you don’t have to control over what ones names themselves sometimes ? And what do you even mean? How would you culturally appropriate a name? Other languages are okay, you said. So I’m confused about that
So alters may not be able to control the name they come into the system with, but they can control whether or not they change it. Cultural appropriation will look different depending on the individual system’s nationality- Appropriation might be a person giving an alter a name from a religion/a prominent figure from a culture that isn’t theirs. And languages like European ones are what we were referring to as the more okay ones for exotic name choices. For example, you likely wouldn’t get upset at someone naming an alter Pierre or Luka 😂

I think that might depend on the culture, like European names being fairly non-taboo
