I had a first gen Edge and I liked it a lot. The current generation looks bland and kind of ugly now. It’s too bad because I like a midsize SUV that doesn’t pretend to be minivan.
I just thought it was insane the SEL starts at $40k and not even a power lift gate!? Ford is stingy. The power gate is optional as part of the $1250 convenience package on the SEL Trim. This one did not have that package
It's probably a good thing the Edge is getting discontinued. Ford has more than enough SUVs in their lineup and trimming one or two won't devastate the brand in any way. Plus, it's showing its age big time. And they're not selling well anymore at all because our local dealership has two full rows of them. Definitely a sign of decline.
That’s true, but I think it’s a good alternative to an Explorer as it doesn’t have the 3rd row and more car like for some people. As ugly as the new one in China is on the outside, the inside looks pretty great if you look it up - but they made it a 3rd row version so I guess defeats my point 😂
Solid review, good job. That said, the Edge is the ultimate average blah vehicle without even a single standout feature wrapped in boring bland body styling. Like I said though, good video and detailed information.
Yeah totally agree - almost all my reviews are because that’s all the rental companies have haha. Having a hard time getting anyone to let me borrow cool cars to film (beyond spending a $hitload on Turo)
For $40k plus I don’t think those features are too much to ask… you can get them in many $30k cars now. I actually kind of like Ford’s synthetic material as I said it’s very durable but the liftgate should’ve been power.
@petrolectric oh my God I remember going to get my 2022 ford edge and I tried the maverick and I was looking for the start stop button and realized it didn't have one. Did you see one with the white plastic stuff on the side.
@@jaronsmalls3343 I just canceled my order and that was a factor for sure when I found out it had a key… I’m in and out of my car 20+ times a day and fumbling for a key sounds awful.
No power liftgate. that's what you get when you pay for "SE" or "SEL" models. Power liftgate is standard only on Titanium trim. All other trims it's additional & extra cost.
Instead of keeping the model and modernizing the vehicle they discontinue the vehicle. Edge has name recognition that people know, much like Taurus which is another model Ford completely fumbled. So instead of modernizing brands people know they create new models no one’s ever heard of and then are completely baffled why said new models don’t sell. Toyota and Honda have had the same models for decades and unlike Ford they actually update the vehicles when needed.
Totally agree, Ford Jsut didn’t do enough to keep it competitive. They really keep their F-series trucks fresh as they’re the money maker and let everything else kind of get put on the back burner
My Edge SELis 2020: I could've got a 2024 but I didn't because they put buttons...the controls are in the screen and that SUCKS (and I'm not the only one who hates it). Mine does have the power lift gate w/ foot control, and I love it. I hate the giant screen. Heated seats, htd steering wheel....I realized some of the new Edges don't have the side mirror turn signals. Yes, it hauls a** when you want. Personally, I think Ford made a HUGE mistake by discontinuing it! They should've made it hybrid...Ford just lost my business 😒. Side note: for $40K, they could've made the turn signals quieter...😂
@@tamararohlin4128 I think the big screen thing has hopefully plateaued as we see some cars bringing buttons back a little. Cars now are legally required to have a turn signal in the mirror or near it on the body so not sure what you’ve seen - maybe they tweaked the mirror design and it’s harder to see the light?

It actually makes sense to nix the Edge. People with a tight budget will buy a Ford Escape. If you have a little money to buy and Edge, you might as well buy the Explorer. Otherwise the Edge is just a slightly larger more expensive Escape.
I could never trust something with a American brand. Some of their cars look kinda nice. Most are lacking. Nearly all are pretty infamous for low quality and reliability.
@petrolectric Family friend had a 2014 Escape whos transmission blew at 70k. Friend had a 2014 Mustang transmission blow in the mid 40s. And interior falling apart. Like the door cars just fall off. Uncle had a new F-150 but it kept having electrical issues and he got rid of it. Lastly other friend had a Fiesta that also just was falling apart on the inside like bits and pieces popping off and foor cars eroding from touching the air. It's just hard to see any reason to buy one. I think the Maverick, Bronco, Bronco Sport, Lincoln, and their body on frame trucks and SUVs are neat on a very shallow surface level look. But there is no reason to buy one.
That’s not true I’ve owned a2008 edge never had an issue with it and I also have a 15 F150 no issues at all it all depends on how you maintain your vehicles.
@petermarrone4138 Idk man. Ford had more recalls than any other company last year. Plus you can look at the stats. Decades of shrinking market share in the US and retreating from segments. Fleeing markets across the face of the earth. You can't try to tell me poor quality control isn't part of the issue.
I need something that compliments my 15 Fusion Titanium, with rear storage space and better mpg than my old Expedition. I have it narrowed down to the Flex and Edge. I'm pretty sure the new infotainment system interface is quicker than Microsoft's slow ass Sync 2 but that giant tablet is frikkin hideous.
@@RellyOhBoy I didn’t totally hate it… but yeah I think climate control on the tablet is dumb…. Otherwise worked good. Personally find the Flex to be absolutely hideous but try the edge out! Deals to be had on them right now
@petrolectric I like the styling of the Flex. It has a distinctive old school vibe plus it's actually classed as a Wagon and not a Crossover. No mistaking it when you see it.
Great review, wow what a dumb decision to build EV’s that nobody wants anymore. I’ve always liked the Edge just a lil more than the old body Explorer, but when the new body rolled out it was no longer a contest. I’ve had excellent luck out of Eccoboost engines on my second 2.7 F150 and they’ve been flawless, great torque and if your not into the turbos pretty good fuel economy, not saying you can’t get roughly the same MPG’s out of the 5.0, but the way they sound I couldn’t drive it easily with that V8 sound. I really feel Ford needs a Sedan and a small car. I remember back when station wagons were the rage and over night they died, the same thing could happen to SUV’s. Again good job on the review.
Thanks! I feel like Ford should really bring back a four door sedan… just one solid competitor to the Camry/Accord would be worth it I think. But if they do, it’ll prob be EV. I don’t understand why these manufacturers aren’t doing hybrid - best of both worlds! Toyota has been smart about that and not jumping in full EV, they make great hybrids
It really does drive nice and if you’re looking at new… they’re sitting on Ford lots for a long time might be able to snag a deal and get a nice chunk off msrp!
Sure I get it, $40+k for a dated looking American SUV is scandalously insain considering the competition from the Japanese and Korean auto manufacturers but a good taken cared of used one is definitely a bargain and a great reliable safe vehicle and most owners agree. The problem has always been the price for what you get for those obtuse buyers who buy these vehicles new. Ford made a idiotic decision making the center screen vertical and its no wonder why it is disappearing from their newer vehicles that once had one, namely the 2025 Ford Explorer. My advice is if you like Ford products or this Edge then you'll like the luxury variant the Lincoln Nautilus. Get a low mileage used one and you'll have a better built Ford Edge that looks better offers more and doesn't carry that found on road dead stigma. Never buy a vehicle new, depreciation is not kind on your wallet.
Nice commentary and yes a two year old edge is probably a great bargain right about now… as far as the Nautilus, I guess that’s the closest thing we will have to the Edge going forward for now… the new 2024 has been getting rave reviews, so I have to assume the Ford version would’ve been pretty good too had it made it here
Sadly true, I think a new Hybrid Edge would’ve done well. Something to make it stand out from a regular SUV/crossover. Hopefully Ford will figure something out - even a new sedan would be welcomed.
everything about this car just looks dated and low quality for its price. there's a ton of much, MUCH better entries for the same price or cheaper, no wonder they're discontinuing it. looks over a decade old but it's a 2024? weird
Who the HELL cares whether my neighbors car looks like mine?? It serves a “Function” adequately in my life. This guy probably bitches because his neighbor has a better lookin lawnmower. EGO will define your intelligence quickly. Ford stops making the EDGE because the younger generation likes the Bronco better. Car models have a limited lifespan, so many disappear after time. NOW:The Edge has the most advanced electronics and media internet software out here at that size vehicle. BTW-you can get an auto-lift tailgate too!! It’s so good and advanced that Toyota has signed on with the company who develops it to catch up! The only possible problem with the Edge is the engine. Ford has lost all it good motor designers and engine builders to someone else. They used to build a great motor, but because of the Feds insisting we get 1000 miles per gallon, small engines across the entire industry have suffered!! Mazda made a great engine for awhile. So did Mercedes, GM, Nissan, Kia, etc. Not anymore!!! The only ones that last however are the Toyotas, and Hondas. But, with them you can’t get the electronics/wi-fi friendly quality, or you have to step down into a car that is so hard to get into with horribly uncomfortable narrow cheap seating that is typical in most cars. Most people don’t know this: FORD spent millions designing a seat that is ergonomically comfortable for almost every human being. I don’t care what a car looks like as long as I can drive long distances without my back hurting, utilize all my Bluetooth gadgets, have the BEST A/C for cars, and better handling properties. I’ll miss the Edge!! It, like the Fusion were winners for Ford, but the electric truck debacle has cost them billions. They can only make so many models. The feds control that too, whether you realize it or not!
Agree, minus pickup trucks it is very reminiscent of the 1970s when the American makers got lazy and Japan came in and took advantage. This time Korea is hopping in on it too
The Ford Edge only has one problem... OTHER CAR MANUFACTURERS EXIST. I suppose in a vacuum with no comparisons, you could like this car... but what you get for the price pales in comparison to damn near any other car company (not counting GM of course)... simply put, the offerings from Toyota, Mazda, Honda, Hyundai, KIA, Subaru... just about any other manufacturer can make you a MUCH nicer car for same or far less than an Edge... this is why its being killed off... it's just not competitive with the competition... it only appeals to people who don't actually shop and compare... "My Dad always bought a Ford, so I keep the family tradition"... thats about the only kind of customer who would buy this car... someone oblivious to other manufacturers existing.

@@Himsofinee if you read through the comments here, seems almost everyone has had good luck with their Edge. But I feel ya on Ford’s reliability issues
I had a first gen Edge and I liked it a lot. The current generation looks bland and kind of ugly now. It’s too bad because I like a midsize SUV that doesn’t pretend to be minivan.
Totally agree! I think a new ‘edgier’ edge would’ve done well
I agree. They made the Edge look like all the other SUVs on the road. Ugly.
I was wondering if the 2022 edge fog light will fit perfectly with the 2024 edge?
Looks exactly the same to me… I think the refresh happened starting in 2022
I have a 15 SEL leather heated seats, power liftgate , and keypad on DRIVERs door
All that stuff is optional now gotta spend $2-3k on a convenience package - Ford being stingy! For a car over $40k already, that’s ridiculous
And keypad was dropped after 2022 model year from entire lineup… was just filming from passenger side so that’s why I mentioned it
I have a 2024 and mine has a powerlift gate
I just thought it was insane the SEL starts at $40k and not even a power lift gate!? Ford is stingy. The power gate is optional as part of the $1250 convenience package on the SEL Trim. This one did not have that package
I have a 2020 and mine also has a power liftgate.
If they replace it with an EV, I think they will regret it.
@@martinfarrell5778 I think Ford jumped head first into EVs to try and be first in America, and are backing off that significantly now.
Still sold over 100k+ units every year. One of the better selling 2 row midsize
Our Ford dealership has tons of Broncos. Way too many!
It's insane that they are still using a 10+ year old cluster. Even their handles on their cars, buttons, alot of stuff is from 10 years ago
@@petrolectric that makes sense. Well, if you ever find yourself out in Oklahoma hit me up if you want to review any of my junk.
It don't have leather seats and power trunk because you have a SEL. Review a Ford edge titanium and you will get those features.
For $40k plus I don’t think those features are too much to ask… you can get them in many $30k cars now. I actually kind of like Ford’s synthetic material as I said it’s very durable but the liftgate should’ve been power.
I guess I can agree with you on that. Forty thousand is a lot for not even a power trunk button. Ford always been cheap on they low models.
@@jaronsmalls3343 don’t get me started on the Ford Maverick having a physical key 😂
For $40k I don’t think a power liftgate is too much to ask for on the SEL. Plenty of $30k cars with them
I have the SEL and it has a power lift gate
SEL has power lift gate
Instead of keeping the model and modernizing the vehicle they discontinue the vehicle. Edge has name recognition that people know, much like Taurus which is another model Ford completely fumbled. So instead of modernizing brands people know they create new models no one’s ever heard of and then are completely baffled why said new models don’t sell. Toyota and Honda have had the same models for decades and unlike Ford they actually update the vehicles when needed.
Yeah seems all ford really cares about is keeping that F-Series money rolling in.
The Chinese get the best versions
40K for a small crossover is high, other manufacturers have much more to offer for even less $
Totally agree, Ford Jsut didn’t do enough to keep it competitive. They really keep their F-series trucks fresh as they’re the money maker and let everything else kind of get put on the back burner
Nice video
@@sherriewalker1721 thanks for watching! Lots of other reviews on my channel too :)
Can tell you one thing it's a real safe car wife wrecked her 14 SLE she T Boned a truck @60 mph n no injuries got a 15 2ed gen have 60 thousand miles now no troubles n I drive it on hwy @85 90 mph for hrs. On Vac

Just a good old car (SAFETY IS THE KEY after her wreck I was shocked that she wasn't killed n I know cars n she'll drive her 2015 for a long time to come the Explorer is a very safe one to I hear over Hong end cars
Great to hear! Based on the comments, seems most everyone has had good luck with their Edge
It actually makes sense to nix the Edge. People with a tight budget will buy a Ford Escape. If you have a little money to buy and Edge, you might as well buy the Explorer. Otherwise the Edge is just a slightly larger more expensive Escape.
@@timjones9128 true I just wish they made the explorer without the 3rd row, at least as a no cost option. It’s a waste of space for people like me.
The shift dial turned me off. People with a bad right hand can't use the shift knob
@@rodgerpetrick6502 I mean wouldn’t that be the case with any shifter then if you have a bad hand?
I could never trust something with a American brand. Some of their cars look kinda nice. Most are lacking.
Nearly all are pretty infamous for low quality and reliability.
Part of the reason I canceled my Ford Maverick order - I don’t trust Ford beyond 75k miles
@@baronvonjo1929 have a video on my channel a Cmax I had trans went out at 99k. Thankfully ford replaced for free because they knew what a POS it was
That’s not true I’ve owned a2008 edge never had an issue with it and I also have a 15 F150 no issues at all it all depends on how you maintain your vehicles.
Just click the fan speed icon and just slide it all the way down. That’s how u can turn it off
Hmm when I tried that it just went low to high but never to “off”
@@petrolectric yeah if u slide the “fan speed” all the way down it will turn off
FYI @Petrolectric The EcoSport has been dead since 2022.
Thank god 😂
@@petrolectric I agree, that thing was FUGLY
Ecosport 30.2 mpg, the most unrated model in fords lineup.
30mpg in a small entry level SUV is the bottom of the barrel compared to other automakers
Only reason I am looking at this is because of the transmission. I really hate DCT's
It really does drive nice and if you’re looking at new… they’re sitting on Ford lots for a long time might be able to snag a deal and get a nice chunk off msrp!
@@petrolectric yea just found a new 2023 hoping to get it below 31 Ill let you know. TKS
@@jasonme3557 crazy a 2023 is still sitting new! Good luck and be firm with them, bet they’re desperate to dump it!
Middle of middle America is … Florida.
That huge tablet ugghhh!
Haha yeah talk about zero thought put into the design - just slap a screen on the old interior - that’ll do
Sure I get it, $40+k for a dated looking American SUV is scandalously insain considering the competition from the Japanese and Korean auto manufacturers but a good taken cared of used one is definitely a bargain and a great reliable safe vehicle and most owners agree.
Nice commentary and yes a two year old edge is probably a great bargain right about now… as far as the Nautilus, I guess that’s the closest thing we will have to the Edge going forward for now… the new 2024 has been getting rave reviews, so I have to assume the Ford version would’ve been pretty good too had it made it here
Definitely an over price suv.
Purchased the 2020,, 20,000 miles...$25k love it.
Enterprise gave me one of these things for a rental. I hated it. Went back & got a Buick Encore. I loved that little ride!
I took a Buick Encore (Opel Version) on the Autobahn in Germany a few years back 😂. It was a surprisingly fun car.
It's going away because that Ford's mo. If they make a good and reliable product they have to get rid of them. Just like they did with the Taurus.
Sadly true, I think a new Hybrid Edge would’ve done well. Something to make it stand out from a regular SUV/crossover. Hopefully Ford will figure something out - even a new sedan would be welcomed.
everything about this car just looks dated and low quality for its price.
there's a ton of much, MUCH better entries for the same price or cheaper, no wonder they're discontinuing it. looks over a decade old but it's a 2024? weird
Yeah I think if this was $30k it’d be a steal, but at $40k so many better options!
@@stephentaylor9366 i ain't reading all that but congratulations or i'm sorry that happened to you
Hate to tell you, Florida is on the east coast lol
great video. I think this EV crap will be reversed soon.
WAY overpriced.
Agree, at $30k this would be a great choice… at $40k not so much
Toyota, VW, Hyundai/Kia all sell more vehicles than GM and Ford.
Sorry, sad, lame vehicles like the Edge are the reason.
Agree, minus pickup trucks it is very reminiscent of the 1970s when the American makers got lazy and Japan came in and took advantage. This time Korea is hopping in on it too
Asian brands are better built
Well the new Edge is made in China so maybe it’s better now 😂
The Ford Edge only has one problem...
Great point, thankfully less and less people are staying brand loyal as they’re waking up to better options now.
