Oh man that’s the first time I have seen you slip out of character. Rants seem to be a very untouched segment in UA-cam. One of my favorite live streamers seems to always get into a rant and it has helped him grow like crazy.
First rule of business: "Underpromise and Overdeliver. NEVER the other way around." That motto should be tattoed on the forehead of every Ford executive and engineer responsible for the Edge ST. My wife and I looked seriously at the Edge Sport last year. I liked the exterior styling and the size. At 188" long it was more maneuverable in suburban traffic and parking lots than some other midsize SUV's we considered, especially compared to the humungous Mazda CX-9. Overall passenger room and cargo capacity were good compared to some other rivals, especially the much larger Mazda. No third row of seats but as a small family we could get along without the extra passenger room. I liked the 2.7L V6 twin turbo engine. In terms of straight line acceleration it was impressive. The MSRP (as I recall) was around $48K but I could have purchased a fully loaded version for about $40K. At that price it was worth considering. On the hand, the family SUV is my wife's daily driver so there were other considerations. The interior was 50 Shades of Gray. Not objectionable but nothing exciting. The dash stretched out for what seemed like 20 feet in front of the driver. My wife, a sailor, said she felt like she was piloting a long outboard skiff from the stern. For my part I found it odd (at best) that a "Sport" model had a tiny, barely readable tach tacked onto the far left side of the instrument console. We didn't select the Edge Sport but I was intrigued when the Edge ST became available. What does it offer compared to the Edge Sport? Lots of "ST" badges. A slight bump in power but slightly slower 0-60 performance due to a weight gain. An eight speed transmission whose purpose appears to be nothing but keeping up with the competition with the shift lever replaced by a dial. Finally, to add insult to injury, the same tiny, barely readable tach crammed like an afterthought in the instrument cluster. Oh yeah, the MSRP is several thousand dollars more than last year's Sport apparently to pay for the badges. I'm not an "ST" aficionado but if I were I'd be offended. It appears that Ford opted to invest its efforts and resources wholly in the new Explorer. That's sad.
People keep saying this like they’re gonna just die out all of a sudden. They’re not crap anymore. The American manufacturers have improved and they’re not going anywhere.
@@grantdillon1083 Ford's profit margins have gradually decreased for 7 years, they are having to shed a lot of their lineup to remain competitive. Sales aren't great, apart from the F-150, of course.
It made me chuckle when you mentioned the interior fit and finish, because I work in a Ford dealership and we get people come in with this complain all the time. We have even replaced complete Dash assemblies to no avail. I just say to the other techs “ what do they expect, it’s just a Ford!”
I can literally get a Lexus RX350 for less than 50k. Hell, I can get a used RCF for less than 50k. Wth is Ford thinking? This car should be 28k. Definitely no even close to what let’s say a Subaru Outback costs
Phenomenal review. Very in depth. I sent this to my Ford Mechanic buddy here in northern Chicago burbs. He'll probably agree with everything. Hyroglyphics class!
My dad has a 2016 Explorer and after sitting in the Edge ST it interests him even with all of your valid critiques. But, there aren't many SUVs of it's size with a V6 and seats as comfortable. The Blazer RS is a decent competitor, we'll have to drive both. The Audi Q5 doesn't offer a V6 and has the German maintenance tax; although the interior is vastly superior. The RAV4 TRD is slower than the RAV4 of 2007, CX5 is too small and a little slow, and Porsche is too expensive. So that's kind of who this buyer is for. Not looking for a sports car, but a comfortable, low maintenance cost, 2 row SUV with a V6.
I'd absolutely go this route.. Add an intake, downpipe, tune and pick up some hp and real sound. It's a compromise in a way but it's cheaper, looks better and the interior is more plush imo. Also, I bet there's not that BS sound!
@@JakeDrives1 haha, agreed. I am not even hating on the car as a whole, but the badge branding is silly. I own a Fusion Sport with the same engine. I love it for what it is - a comfy cruiser with AWD capability and enough power that I get to giggle and surprise people when I stomp the accelerator. But it's by no means a SPORTS car. I would feel silly with an ST badge on it.
5 years later still love my 2019 st. Has everything I’ve ever wanted and still running great at 83k miles. If I wanted fast I’d save up to buy a 100k suv
Lots of torque. Lots of features. Comfy seats. Look at it as an upgrade to the Edge Sport, not a Fiesta or Focus replacement. Also factory discounts are available. I have a friend that has one, he loves it. I think it’s a decent value.
I’ve spent around 700,000kms in ford edges... the seats are very good, even on the SEL. Comfort when you’re doing 90,000kms/year is way more important than most people think.
What annoys me is that Ford thinks this will be a good upgrade for Focus and Fiesta ST owners. Slapping the ST badge on a bloated SUV and telling me this is what I want to drive? For almost double the price? No thanks. I'll keep my Rosch-modded Focus ST.
I love how seamlessly you go from one part of the video to the next, like it's done in short succession, when in reality it could have taken hours or days between segments.
I just looked on Hertz used cars’ site, I can find a 2018 4-Runner SR5 with 19k miles, loaded to the gills for $30k less than 20 minutes from my house. I don’t have to deal with a Ford dealership, there’s no bull crap, and I’d have loads more car and an extra $20k leftover to buy fuel and NOT drive a vacuum cleaner.
This guy does a great job with REAL reviews. I was gonna look into this car for my wife this spring, I'll be skipping it altogether, not even gonna walk into their parking lot.
savagegeese, I gotta say, I absolutely love your niche in auto journalism. I love your attention to details. Who else talks about the underbody? Who else takes the time to look up gear ratios and compare them to the old model? Who else talks about weight distribution and gives us numbers? Not to mention the photography, and your commentary (including your stories about soy lattes). Just absolutely incredible work! If the border reopens this summer and you're back in the Toronto area, maybe I'll get a chance to meet you. Take care, and thanks making these informative videos!
Sounds like what you're saying is Ford nailed the important stuff and the stuff they didn't, the customer won't even notice or forget about a week after buying. If I didn't already have new, this would be in my top 5 choices.
Thought this would be another 20 minute rant about it being a SUV but I turned out to be pleasantly surprised. Great video quality, thorough analysis, and a good balance between personal opinions and unbiased points of view. I can feel you *wanted* it to be good, not just see Ford fail at something. Also, the tone of your voice is simply perfect. One of the rare youtube channels I can watch while tired with a headache.
This review....is everything. It's a shame how a paycheck to influencers will make them say/do anything. Not like Donut is a trusted source of critical thinking, but would be nice if we didn't have to see a million shared videos on FB from them and SupercarBlondie smiling and making fart jokes for cash. Honesty is king. Long Live Savagegeese.
I have started watching your reviews recently. The audio, video and technical content quality you guys deliver is beyond excellence. It is really enjoyable! Thank you for all the good work!
Thank you for keeping ur reviews savagely honest! This is why i need to watch every car video you make. I also love the 360 undercarriage intro to the garage part.
The Ford vehicles are nice but the quality construction is cheap and the reliability is poor. I had a bad experience with Ford, maybe Ford have improved it, and to spend $50,000 or $55, 000 plus an extended warranty, it's a lots of money for a Ford. Great review and thanks for confirm the poor quality of Ford.
The products themselves have gotten better as far as build quality, but the dealerships still suck, and put all their effort into making the front of the house look good. The service departments still, for the most part, don't even attempt to honor a warranty anymore. I had to leverage a bunch of 1-star reviews and calls to corporate to get my 2017 Fusion Sport with 15k miles in to have a front left wheel hub bearing replaced. No one would touch it because "they couldn't reproduce the problem" and "couldn't afford the time to look into it" but I could always "just bring it back when it breaks".
Makes me very happy to have purchased an Edge Sport 2 years ago. Only changes to the ST is badging, 20 claimed more HP, change to shift control knob, uglier exhaust trim. My 2016 has the 21 inch wheels, same motor rated at 315 but 650 RPM less, same suede insert seats. Didn't buy as a sport car version SUV, rather a long distance highway driver which it excels at. And the 2016 does not have canned engine sounds thankfully.
Lol love it...use to test drive and park these babies...and your right the Sport Sounds and loOks better. They might have ruin the ST name but I think I can fix it....hahaha maybe
This was brutally honest. Thanks for laying it down. Your research and knowledge is so informative. For $50k I would better get a car. I wouldn't mind seeing SUVs in circuits and such, if that's where they are going. Such a shame where trends lead the market.
@@TassieLorenzo Because the Porsche Macan is actually good, and the base model Macan is around the same price point. Not to mention, the Macan sub-models (S, GTS, Turbo) get progressively nicer and more exciting. This is dogshit. A poor crossover to compare to a Porsche.
When I first heard about this vehicle I knew it was all marketing hype. Nothing special here. The instrument cluster is old and outdated. Ford has overused this part to death. I've owned the other two ST's and they were great performers. I also leased an Edge Sport in 2016. It left me luke warm. Quality on the Edge was subpar. Between painted surfaces there were peeling issues. The paint on the bumper under the headlight was peeling as the lower portion of the headlight rested on it. Interior panels didn't fit well. I lease transferred out of this vehicle 6 months later. There are much better options out there.
Went to the bathroom for a shower with the phone to listen to some car videos while washing. Realized savagegeese video is plying - stopped immediately in order to enjoy the b-roll beautiful shots!
The ST badge on the Edge is like having the S-line badge on an A4. For the price you pay, you could have gotten a real S4. If you look outside of the CUV market, 50k would get you a lot. Golf R, S4, Boxster/Cayman. If you look used or CPO, you can do even better.
True, but Ford cannot make anything like a Golf R or S4, because the Golf R and S4 are available. They go the safe route of selling an SUV or Cross utility whatever they call this soap box, because 2018-19 are the golden age of SUVs all over again, until the next oil price gouging hits.
Your Jeep won’t last more than 50k miles before something big comes up... my coworkers had to have his tranny replaced on his 2016 Durango SRT at 40k 😂
Throw all the stones you want, but I would LOVE to have a Ford Edge ST. The Taurus SHO is history, and the ST Edge fills that void for folks needing a family hauler to have a vehicle with some extra kick when you press the gas pedal. And so what if 0 to 60 isn't under 5 seconds???
Ford Edge ST still is the best two row luxury crossover under $200K! Looks better then the RRS and the interior is retro looking that is slowly coming back into vogue. It is an American assembled car and you have to expect these small imperfections. Sure you can buy the RRS SVR or Porsche Cayenne Turbo that has better parts assembling in the interior but then the auto insurance will be much more costly! So go and buy this modern luxurious Ford Edge ST and saving yourself a $100K+!
Probably about the harshest overall review I have seen savagegeese do. Everything he said though is absolutely true and I completely respect that. It's one of the reasons I always come back for the next video. I like some Ford products... mainly the current generation Mustangs and I know their trucks and some SUVs are okay. This absolutely is not okay though. Good review as always.
The Edge is a fine car for $30,000. It's a horrible car at $50,000. The same with the Explorer. A $35,000 Explorer is a decent car. A $55,000 Explorer is ludicrous. Oh, and guess what. Golf clubs will NOT fit crossways in the trunk of the Edge. It's too narrow. So getting 4 people and their golf bags in the car is next to impossible. Again, that's just ludicrous. That car looks like it belongs in the rental car fleet.
The all new RWD Explorer is nice. It is still far too expensive. Ford wants to sell its cars and trucks for BMW prices. They are shooting past their customer base and not pulling in new ones.
I once owned a ‘13 Focus ST (loved it) and recently the dealer sent one of those marketing/sales letters telling me I could upgrade to something new. Was it a new ST? Nope. Was it an Edge ST? Nope. Wasn’t even a regular Escape. It was a damned EcoSport. WTF!?!? If this is how Ford wants to get their car owners to move up they’re screwed. That outro though. 👌🏼
Well we bought a 2020 and like it. Main reason was to flat tow behind our Motorhome, V6 twin turbo power, comfortable seats, lots of interior space. It’s been trouble free, transmission does clunk into drive occasionally but still under warranty. So it checked all our boxes for a flat tow vehicle.
I'm not sure I really get the performance angle here. An Audi Q5 (that actually starts a little cheaper here in Canada) will at least match the Edge ST to 60, with a much better interior for good measure. And you can option an Edge ST to within a couple of grand of an SQ5... I just don't get Ford's pricing on performance models. The Focus RS flew off the lots at 50k here, then Ford bumped it up to 60k overnight for the '18 model and suddenly it wasn't selling because now it was in the same price bracket as cars like the Audi S4 or a nicely optioned BMW 340i. Insanity.
Even the SQ5 starts higher than the Edge ST can be loaded. I considered it and the BMW X3M40i. Either the BMW or Audi without the performance package will depreciate MUCH faster than the ford and your stuck with a German car with German car reliability issues + cost of ownership.
Idk why I’m even watching this... I’ve no interest in a SUV, especially one that claims to be a sports car. Oh yeah, your content is fantastic 😉 keep it up.
No one but yourself is calling this a sports car. It's a sporty SUV that has get-up-and-go for on ramps and some spirited driving on the backroads. Just happens to be an SUV.
PartyUpLive : Look at the Mazda CX-5. Reliability of new Mazdas rivals Toyota, but Mazda exceeds Toyota in driving dynamics, exterior and interior design, and value for money.
@@DiscoFang I sat in the Rav4, but I am 6' 9" and the Highlander has the most leg room in it's class and more head room than my current beater. I liked the Rav4, but it looks like it will have to be the HL between the two. I'm just waiting to see what they do for the 2020 redesign. If I don't like the new one, I'll get the 2019 later this year.

That's sad.
I was WONDERING what happened to the tach! I figured it was the tiny thing on the left that I couldn't read :-)
Ford and GM are 'dead men walking', constantly grasping at straws, re-badging and compromising in design and quality...its only a matter of time.
@ablackprep ford doesn't get bailed out last time.
People keep saying this like they’re gonna just die out all of a sudden. They’re not crap anymore. The American manufacturers have improved and they’re not going anywhere.
@@grantdillon1083 What's your point? Every other manafacturer has improved at a much more consistent and fast pace, repeatedly outclassing this.
@@alh06 My point is that the American manufacturers are staying, whether you like it or not.
I just say to the other techs
“ what do they expect, it’s just a Ford!”
I can literally get a Lexus RX350 for less than 50k. Hell, I can get a used RCF for less than 50k. Wth is Ford thinking? This car should be 28k. Definitely no even close to what let’s say a Subaru Outback costs
Slowmo the market for the mustang and the edge are WAY different. You can’t compare the two at all.
MikeYFItalian but Ford themselves called this a "sports car"
Base SQ5 money
what's so special with Lexus RX350?
Tad comfort, reliability, sound system, luxury.
This is why I watch his videos dead ballzzzzz honest its rare in this day and age ... thank you
Phenomenal review.
And thats why I bought it. Been awesome.
Bottom line, buy the Edge Titanium & have all of the options that the ST has & you’ll also be able to use 87 Octane & get better MPG.
The "ST" can still use 87 octane. You just won't get the claimed 335hp
I'd absolutely go this route.. Add an intake, downpipe, tune and pick up some hp and real sound. It's a compromise in a way but it's cheaper, looks better and the interior is more plush imo. Also, I bet there's not that BS sound!
@@Astronaut890 "ST" is right. I like it written with the quotes. That should be a thing.
Focus ST only loses 11HP and no torque if you use regular gas. I'll glady save 30% on fuel cost (60 cents a gallon) with a power penalty that small.
Thanks for the "no port injection" graphic. Much appreciated on GDI engine info.
I have this vehicle and love it. Not perfect yet but the overall performance is great.
thanks for your honesty, everyone else is dancing around the subject, instead of saying no one wants this
I’ve spent around 700,000kms in ford edges... the seats are very good, even on the SEL. Comfort when you’re doing 90,000kms/year is way more important than most people think.
You have the best channel on for reviewing vehicles. Thanks for your honesty and no bullshit approach.
*on UA-cam
What annoys me is that Ford thinks this will be a good upgrade for Focus and Fiesta ST owners. Slapping the ST badge on a bloated SUV and telling me this is what I want to drive? For almost double the price?
No thanks. I'll keep my Rosch-modded Focus ST.
I love how seamlessly you go from one part of the video to the next, like it's done in short succession, when in reality it could have taken hours or days between segments.
When in reality it very much did take not hours but days, not so much between segments as to do each one
That sounds like a great deal, except for getting beaten like a rental car for 19k miles and didn't exactly get broken in nicely.
Buying a used anything is smarter and cheaper than new. Not siding with the price of the edge but... Any vehicle can be compared that way.
This guy does a great job with REAL reviews. I was gonna look into this car for my wife this spring, I'll be skipping it altogether, not even gonna walk into their parking lot.
As a focus St owner this thing is an insult
Fellow St owner. I'm looking the other way if one of these pull up next to me. Also we need 'TP for the bunghole!'
Same
It would be nice to have that engine in the focus St .
The Almighty Cornholio Same here. There is nothing special about the Edge ST, it does not deserve the ST badge.
Ford's CEO is taking everything down some kind of toilet. I've been in Fords for a long time. Going elsewhere.
savagegeese, I gotta say, I absolutely love your niche in auto journalism.
Todd is outstanding with his IT solutions , loved the sweater !
Sounds like what you're saying is Ford nailed the important stuff and the stuff they didn't, the customer won't even notice or forget about a week after buying. If I didn't already have new, this would be in my top 5 choices.
Give it 500+ HP and call it the Edge RS. I'll accept that but not this thing as a "sports car"
Gimme Edge GT 5.0 coyote.
The Stig that would be so awesome. I like FORD but I don’t get why they don’t push the limits of their vehicles sometimes.
@@the-stig-nickname how is your Persian cousin doing?
Isn't RS associated with rally or something... still would be ridiculous branding-wise
Will cost 70k lol
Thought this would be another 20 minute rant about it being a SUV but I turned out to be pleasantly surprised. Great video quality, thorough analysis, and a good balance between personal opinions and unbiased points of view. I can feel you *wanted* it to be good, not just see Ford fail at something.
Also, the tone of your voice is simply perfect. One of the rare youtube channels I can watch while tired with a headache.
I drove a reg Edge V6 and then the ST. As far as acceleration goes, night and day difference! The ST feels waaaaaaaay faster.
360 camera at 6:03 gave me the most powerful woody. Godspeed sir, you’re an artist.
I have started watching your reviews recently. The audio, video and technical content quality you guys deliver is beyond excellence. It is really enjoyable! Thank you for all the good work!

“Cloud-based”
Thank you for keeping ur reviews savagely honest!
Andrew Clary Wow ! Sorry about your experience. You right the dealer services stinks.
i appreciate your brutal honest on the review and the deeper look into the car then other reviews.
Ken M True, buying a used Sport definitely the better option!
Don't forget yours probably has the same canned exhaust note through the speakers.
"2016 does not have canned engine sounds thankfully." I never noticed and have 40000+ on it. NO canned sound that I can tell.
Always a pleasure to hear you bro, this is my dream SUV, and the fact that Ford Performance has an SUV driving great school aswell !!! Rocks !!!
Ford needs to part ways with Lincoln. Lincolns are becoming amazing and i dont want Ford to ruin them...again
You know a Lincoln is a Ford, right? Like a Lexus is a Toyota.
Ford is Lincoln's parent company, and Lincoln is finally competitive.. Did you even think before you wrote that?
This was brutally honest. Thanks for laying it down. Your research and knowledge is so informative.
For $50k I would better get a car.
I wouldn't mind seeing SUVs in circuits and such, if that's where they are going. Such a shame where trends lead the market.
This comes the same day as I saw (in Australia, mind) an ad for the new Focus ST hatch and Focus ST Wagon.
This Ford Edge ST should 👏 not 👏 exist 👏
Oh, you are talking about the Focus ST-Line, not the real ST
@SirVixIsVexed should be Germany
It’s made for gullible people.
Compared to this thing, I might get excited about a Focus ST wagon!
Is it available with a stick-shift?
My God! The roads salt. Thank you so much for your honest and straightforward review. I’m glad you don’t pull any punches.
It's a Ford Fusion Sport on stilts. How's that selling?
Cars on stilts are what people want (e.g., Porsche Macan). Why shouldn't Ford play in that area? :)
@@hunterbawlz what is the point in fast suvs besides getting timmy and the groceries home from soccer practice. Certainly not driving pleasure
"Sport mode with a dial shifter..." too funny, awesome vid as always.
Dude, you're car reviews are literally the best on UA-cam.
Mark, very clever how to strategically tiled out the speedometer at 14:19 while passing the 50 MPH speed limit sign. No need to self-incriminate ; )
While the engine is climbing and it grabs 3 more gears.
Glad you hold no punches and tell it like it is in all of your reviews.
I'll stick with my 2019 Hyundai Elantra Sport... $23k of honest quality and fun. Ford's blowing it.
Did you get the manual transmission?
Went to the bathroom for a shower with the phone to listen to some car videos while washing. Realized savagegeese video is plying - stopped immediately in order to enjoy the b-roll beautiful shots!
For that price,I'd buy a slightly used SRT Grand Cherokee. I feel like its sooo much more sporty than this ever will be.
So, 4 years later we have trucks at 70, 80, 90, 100+ K. 50 k for the ST not so bad now. Average price is about 45K for a regular car.
"there's reasons to like this in lower trim levels. The doors, they open." 😮 🤯
I'm been waiting to hear your take in this lol thank you
Best production value of any YT car reviewer.
I take the Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT over this front wheel drive turbo engines CUV.
Add 50k to the 50k tag for the edge and you have a SRT Jeep.
Your Jeep won’t last more than 50k miles before something big comes up... my coworkers had to have his tranny replaced on his 2016 Durango SRT at 40k 😂
Raftika that’s odd since Dodge didn’t start producing the SRT Durango till 2018
jbbart *RT
@@raftika1 Are you implying Ford is having good luck with the reliability oftheir twin turbo powertrains? lol
We lost the new focus ST and Fiesta ST for this 50k junk? Loose plastics and terrible interiors? The new Rdx is a much better value than this turd
First review of this kind I've seen! Fantastic, subscribing.
Probably about the harshest overall review I have seen
savagegeese do.
Got to say, you did a lovely job shooting this review. Most are thrown together with a go-pro and spit.
he pretty much said "thank u, next" #savage!
The ONLY review channel I trust
Insanity.
John Yeats sq5 is like 80k in Canada loaded
Even the SQ5 starts higher than the Edge ST can be loaded. I considered it and the BMW X3M40i. Either the BMW or Audi without the performance package will depreciate MUCH faster than the ford and your stuck with a German car with German car reliability issues + cost of ownership.
Idk why I’m even watching this... I’ve no interest in a SUV, especially one that claims to be a sports car. Oh yeah, your content is fantastic 😉 keep it up.
I cannot stress this enough, but SG is the ONLY automotive channel people should watch when considering a new car. Everyone else is just pretending.
No one but yourself is calling this a sports car. It's a sporty SUV that has get-up-and-go for on ramps and some spirited driving on the backroads. Just happens to be an SUV.
Looks nice. But I am leaning more towards the Toyota Highlander. Great video as always.
reliability and fitment is great. but it's a very boring vehicle to drive. tech is well behind as well, even worse than ford's sync 3.
PartyUpLive : Look at the Mazda CX-5. Reliability of new Mazdas rivals Toyota, but Mazda exceeds Toyota in driving dynamics, exterior and interior design, and value for money.
Or save 25G and get the new Rav4.
Cassette Walkman Looking at fully-optioned vehicles, the new RAV4 does not have that price advantage. Plus it’s a Toyota: bo-ring!
Great video...! I love the door swing at the 10.34 mark and seeing the start up of the vehicle.... would of like to a little bit more of it to see how the gauge cluster fires up...!
