If you've missed the last few episodes, we decided to buy a cabin, move into it and get comfortable for the winter. It has been a LONG 4 years of self building our home and it's time we start living again. Now that it's been a few weeks, this cozy cottage is exactly what our souls needed!

How did we end up here?
It all began with a year of full-time travel, embracing the van life until the world shifted, and we had to adjust accordingly. With travel no longer an option but determined to stay productive, we transformed our compact mobile abode into a self-sufficient off-grid dwelling that fulfilled all our needs. Recognizing the uncertainty of the current tiny home, we quickly realized a permanent residence was the most sensible choice. Over the past three years, we have meticulously overseen every aspect of the project ourselves, planning the construction while simultaneously setting up the off-grid property to sustain our future food requirements. For the last two years we've lived in a Geodesic Dome, which has allowed us to be comfortable (expect for the winter months), while we realize our shipping container home dream. However, this will mark our 4th winter with stable electricity, running water, or a flushing toilet and time has come to come up with a new plan going forward.
The last few weeks have been so lovely but WE MISSED YOU! It felt so weird every time Sunday rolled around and we weren't sharing what we got up to that week...thank you for being such a special and important part of our 2023. Sitting down and reflecting back on this last year felt really great and I hope everything we said about wanting something different for 2024 made sense. If you're down to watch whatever adventures we get up to, we'll keep on bringing you along 😘

Found your channel this past spring and after having hysterectomy. The Doctors found cancer but was able to remove it all. Honestly, you’re channel brought me so much joy and laughter during some hard times. Thank you for being you and sharing it with us all. Happy New Year’s everybody and let’s rock 2024 together!!

You guys definitely made the right call buying the lake cabin. Realizing you were in an untenable position in the dome with winter and all its accompanying stressors was just around the corner made executing a strategic pivot the right option and saved not only The Land project, but a world of aggravation and heartache as well. You both seem so much more relaxed and happy, which is wonderful to see. That alone is a lesson in making good choices we can all appreciate. There's no doubt in my mind that everything will come together beautifully. Eventually. It's going to be a great ride!

Frankly I’m slightly relieved!The pace, the sheer physical effort linked to taxing living conditions in a difficult climate….you would have had total burn out if it had gone on much longer. What a courageous decision you guys have made! Most people keep going with something because they think they have to, and then they lose the love for their project, the fun goes out of it and that comes out in the final result. I want to say how proud I am of you both for continuing to pursue your dreams of building your shipping container home, even when things got really difficult or overwhelming.
The stress and pressure was immense. Trying to meet construction deadlines, problem-solve unexpected issues, live in challenging conditions - that takes a huge toll! I truly admire you for recognizing when things were becoming too much and course correcting, by buying this beautiful cabin. Taking that time to rest and recharge shows so much self-awareness and maturity.
I know you've received questions about whether you're "giving up" on the container house. But it's obvious you still have a vision for that special place and are committed to seeing it through in a way that nourishes you rather than burns you out. There's no shame in proceeding at a pace that allows you to enjoy the process. In fact, that's vital! Your happiness and wellbeing need to be the priority.
The key is that you're still moving toward your goals, just in a more balanced way. Be compassionate with yourselves when you have off days. And don't forget to celebrate all the milestones along the way! I believe that dream home is going to come together beautifully thanks to all your thoughtful planning and passion. But the timeline doesn't matter as much as maintaining joy in your life journey.

They used to say that if a couple was going to divorce it would be when they built a house. Obviously, times have changed and people treat each other like they're disposable and that's just sad, but I am happy you guys bought the cabin and didn't end up losing your sanity completely due to the pressure you were placing on yourselves while its tech out of your control.
I am happy to continue watching whatever you guys are up to, and I do hope to eventually see you finish the container home, even if it becomes the "camp". I think the reason I feel that way as a viewer is bc we saw soooo much of your blood sweat tears and necks go into that property that I think it is built up on pieces of your souls. I know that may sound weird but I live where Canadian Native culture is very much alive and well and the spirits of the land and the people who once inhabited it and all of that feels soooo genuine and I get that feeling from your dome home property, like yall are a piece of it and it's a piece of you, but you all DO need to just allow for physical healing, emotional healing, stop stressing about housing security, bc in a big way that's been your biggest stress, trying to make a home so you could get out of the dome...
I assume you guys are close to the container or close-ish, so I do wonder if you guys have decided whether you will do the garden and stuff this year? You both seemed to be so genuinely excited about the garden and the whole process so I would love to see you guys doing that if you're close enough, simply bc of the funny excitement! Plus, you guys obviously need to get the thousands of pounds of french fries you wanted last year! LOL
In all seriousness though, my dreams, and the other viewers dreams, don't matter at all. You guys are what matters. This is your life. Not ours. If you suddenly no longer care about an off grid life then that's your choice. End of story. Off grid can be easy (from what I've heard) but only once its actually setup and established and that's not where you guys have been yet. You may absolutely LOVE the container home, its views, its pool and all of the awesome things like the sauna and hot tub, garden etc, and the lack of paying the uber rich to run the place each month! OR you may say "we actually want a high rise apartment in the city with a maintenance man" and that's more than awesome too!!

There’s a line in Peter Pan, the version that starred Robin Williams, where he is all grown up and busy with work and not paying attention to his family. Then his wife says, “Peter, your missing it” in that lovable English accent. I’ve often used that line with my husband or even myself when I get too busy to enjoy what’s around us. So I was reminded of that as you guys talked about your plans going forward. We don’t want to get too busy “doing” life that we don’t take time for “living” life.
This year is the start of living with the joys of just doing whatever projects without stressing yourselves out with timelines, taking more time to watching the sun over the lake, hosting family & friends, taking care of yourselves, the boys, Squirrel and each other. This is the year of being more joyful and "come what may." And I'm here for whatever you guys choose to share with us every Wednesday and Sunday. Please don't worry about us if you need to take more breaks during this year of joy & peace; we will be here 😃💜

Guys, having followed you since the start of the shipping continer home I suggest it's time to take a good hard look at why your channel is so popular. It's nice that you took a much needed break from the stress of the build and bought the cabin, but I don't think your many fans are all that interested in your life in the cabin. Your primary draw is and always will be the shipping container home and we want to follow your journey getting it finished and moving into it. At that point you can sell or rent out the cabin. Just my humble opinion as a fan.

When you recap what you’ve accomplished over the year, it’s quite amazing and understandably stressful at the time. I’m glad you made the decision to buy a place that’s more habitable during the winter months and absolutely breathtaking all year round. Now you have the time and space to really decide how to proceed. This is wisdom. As a 71 year old, you are very correct in that life is fleeting. Without urgent deadlines, and immediate stressors, you can enjoy the projects you choose to do. I am looking forward to seeing what you two get up to in 2024. I love that you have this cabin sanctuary!! Im just a spectator and the container was overwhelming me. I have built a couple of houses and the two different relationships suffered in the wake. You two are too good together to lose each other in an overwhelming project. I feel like I should thank you for securing the cabin and sheltering yourselves! Now the new year can be joyous and not a drugery...how awesome this is!!!
The five of you are part of our family, and we're loving Tangents, too. Tea is our favorite part and we discuss the issues along with you! Wanted you to know, I've been having a difficult time, too, made worse by a terrible medical experience over a year ago. I've been saying that I want my life back. I realized, because of YOU, that the only way to get it back is to TAKE IT BACK! FIGHT! Today is the best day I have had in all that time, got some chores done, groomed the dogs, worked outside (18F and SNOW!) as I used to love to do. I did more in one morning today than in a week over the bad months. You got me back on my feet and doing what I love and also need to do. You will never know what you've done for me! I also wanted to add my thought that you are courageous and smart! Dreams change, evolve, and reset. That's life, guys, and it takes bravery to see a new path and move on it. So glad you guys are in a better place. Rent the land, sell the land, use it as a never-ending project...anything. But I think if you ever give up the lake house, it'd be a big mistake. It may have its quirks 😉, but it's built. It's done. It's warm. It's roomy & comfortable. You can come in & just BE, w/o a ton of stuff staring you in the face. As you pointed out, the house gives you the freedom & the space to deal w/ the land w/o feeling like you MUST HURRY & get something done before the weather changes or whatever. I think the holidays w/ your families was your reward for making the change. 😊

You have discovered a universal truth. When you are too close to the problem you can lose the overall picture. You pushed yourself to the ragged end doing all the infrastructure and building while living an off grid life. Your physical and emotional wells were drained dry. You are blessed enough to have been able to buy your haven. A place to recuperate and replenish your inner resources so you may finish the dream of your container home. You have done exactly what was needed. You stepped away from the problem enough to see clearly what needed to be done. The need to be able to care for your fur babies and yourselves is first priority. This coming year will be great YT viewing as you work toward realistic goals in a healthier manner. I have enjoyed your off grid land, but it no where compares to the lakeside cabin. Each has its charms, but the cabin gives you comfort and reprieve in this difficult time. 2. It would be great if you wanted to share more of what you go through daily - you made the last 3 years look so lovely on your channel. I always thought it must be so hard, yet your posts felt so "romantic" and idyllic. Hearing you share on TTT, we saw it was much more challenging than you shared. Yes, we love your successes and "wins" (and I am sure there are many), yet knowing the reality and that you are a "work in progress" (as we all are) felt so much more authentic.
However you decide to move forward, know you are supported and appreciated!
What you guys are experiencing is classic burnout. It takes a really long time to get your adrenals back up to full happy capacity. Please take your time and enjoy it all!

Thank you for speaking about your experience with colonoscopies and cancer screening. My father beat colorectal cancer during the pandemic and I had a colonoscopy too as a preventative screening measure. It was easy and it’s important to do it early enough to catch because it’s so easily treated. You’re using your platform to help inform people and that’s amazing. Cancer is an awful disease. Early screening and access to screening is so important. ❤

Starting from scratch and installing all that infrastructure is not for the faint of heart - given you are experienced with home renovations and home flipping shines a light on how challenging these projects are - no wonder you want to change the pace. With any luck you’ll be able to take the time to sort out what you want to do with each property going forward - no, this is not an opportunity with you to be twice as busy with projects at both locations! Well done guys! Just an idea, have you thought of allowing other people to stay in the dome, while helping you get things done on the land! You two could teach them so much, With all the followers you have I’m sure it’d be very easy to find suitable people. I mean people who meld with your personalities! It’d be a win win for all, especially having people to tend the gardens, ect ect. while you achieve things at your new place!
Do what makes you happy. The people who want you to finish the container home and finish it themselves. You are allowed to change your minds!

My border collie tore her acl. $3,000.00 surgery and 6 weeks no moving. It was horrible for her! Your dog is beautiful and happy for all the progress in every area of your lives ❤️🎉Now she swims, plays, etc.
Construction is one of the hardest things to take on as a homeowner. Doing it while living in the pod must have made it worse. You will finish the container house at your own speed and you will end up loving it instead of dreading it. Love the new house. Enjoy.

You both saved me from my fantasy of living off grid. Pretty much saved my relationship too. He was never into it. Too much work. Now I watch with a touch of sadness. I miss your day to day reports projects and ingenuity. Yet, I realize that I was definitely living vicariously through your labor and dreams. I need my own, new , better ones more age appropriate. Imo, you’re building the container home to perfection. It’s your dream property and you’ve researched and planned every step to make it the best that you can. That takes time and a lot of it. You’ve been acting like you’re in a sprint, not the marathon that the property project is. To get it to where you want it to be will take years and you need to be living your life during those years.

This cabin is lovely and warm. After you get yourselves into the container home and blah blah blah this cabin will be a great place for you to bring the kids for the weekend and a family holidays and summers gathering place for many years to come. Keep at it.

Look how many blows you had to deal with, and just this one year, let alone all the combined years. It is so good you are at the lake house where your creature comforts are met. Easier to tackle the rest of the challenges in life.

Finish the other property,sell it to investors that will market it as an exclusive Air B &B, if you can just recoup your costs it will be a financial windfall. Use that money to build a boathouse/ramp, gardens, etc. At your PERFECT timber-frame! Anxious to watch you transform this place! Can you add solar panels to this roof?
