When doing this be SURE to PULL FUSE FOR THE FUEL PUMP FIRST and start and run your car until it dies . Then try to start again , this will relieve most of the pressure and fuel from the lines.

I just fixed mine by myself, mechanic was asking for $1,800 for parts and labor, they said my sensor wasn’t good and my fuel pump. did a diagnostic and it was just the fuel pump. went on amazon after watching a video the guy said he recommend changing the fuel hoes that was leaking in your video every time you change the pump. so i ordered both and replaced both. cost me $450 instead of 1,800. so far im good no problems.

Suppose to change out the camshaft follower underneath they go bad overtime and if it fails your engine goes and it won't be covered under the lifetime engine warranty. Plus the metal high pressure fuel tube isn't suppose to be reused cause it can leak since it's compression fitting.

Great reply. Ive not done this repair but i think i heard to look in the hole the pump goes into and turn the engine before installing the high presure pump because the HP fuel pump is run off a cam lobe and you want the lobe to be flat when installing not sticking straight up making you fight spring pressure as you bolt it down?

You mentioned why some sellers charge so much for a high pressure fuel pump at around 01:53 or so, the reason is those are really expensive, a Mini Cooper unit costs over 1.2K new and unused if you buy it from the manufacturer or dealership, I had to replace mine, and Suzuki sells it for a bit over 1K USD shipped from Japan, of course I found a salvaged one from a European car that was totaled, and ended up saving a few hundred bucks. The one you got probably is either refurbished or not an original Kia/Hyundai part although most are made by Bosch in Germany.

Here's what I know: The high pressure fuel pump is used only on the Gasoline Direct Injection (GDI) engines and outputs up to 3,626 psi. A fuel pump on a car with
Here is a link to an article on replacing the fuel pump: static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/2019/MC-10154683-9999.pdf
I had my engine replaced at 195,000 miles with a long block engine. I also had them replace the high pressure fuel pump, roller, bolts and the high pressure fuel line with genuine parts. After a year, it started leaking at the fitting at the pump. When I tighten it, it made it worse, just like his did.
I supplied another new line to the shop and after six months it started leaking at the pump.
I supplied another genuine pump, roller, line and bolts and incredibly, after some time, the pump began leaking out the back (regulator), not related to the line that time. Again, another genuine pump, bolts and line.
According to the repair info: You are not supposed to reuse the fuel line, roller or the bolts. Yes, the bolts. Apparently even if you tighten them 1/2 turn, it stresses them and they can snap. Also, the cam is supposed to be at the low point when you install the pump or the bolts can snap or pull out threads from the head.
Now, about the line: You are supposed to use a special socket (slotted) and torque the nut to 21.8-foot pounds. I think what happens is that it cracks the line at the flare, as it did here, if it's torqued too tight. A crack is what caused my leak at the line - twice - then tightening it increased the gap at the crack. You would think the crack and leak would appear when it was first tightened, but that did not happen to me, twice. I think vibration or something must make it finally crack enough to leak.
Now, after another six months, I smell gas but I cannot tell where it's coming from. Previously I could put my finger under the fitting and it would be wet with gas. Not this time. It may be leaking at the fuel rail, or injector, which means pulling the intake manifold to access it.
