Hay man what can I do I have a nissan 240 sx uses freon you need a dealer licence for what can I do?
Chart for refrigerant quantity for all type of cars where can i get?
Bro I put in refrigent the other day in my Honda , now it's making a noise and when I turn on AC it starts losing power ...Help ...Got a feeling this video might have helped last week ...lol
I blew compressor of my room AC few days ago. Trying refill :)
i just looked up the r134a gage kit from your short cuts and it tells me $168 and that is likely us funds so for me over $200 plus shipping to canada
Had to replace the condenser in my 2015 GMC Sierra last week. The quote was $1350.00 to replace and recharge. I ordered a new condenser from rock auto and installed it myself and recharge the system for $215. 😎
Replaced the condenser on my 2015 Silverado. Same story as yours. Went to Chevy dealership and was told they’re on back order. Comes with a 3 Year warranty. Found one with a lifetime warranty for @$200! Took only @ 1.5 including vacuuming out old Freon and putting in new Freon. Saved a ton of money!
This should be a recall by now. I've been having trouble with my ac for 2 years. On my 2015 silverado.
@@stephenmetz2044 Yeah I know it’s like you bought a Silverado. Those things fall apart just give it half a decade
All new fords and chevy’s are terrible
@@stephenmetz2044 Definately! GM should be ashamed of itself for allowing known faulty products out of the factory. Other than the AC condenser, the truck has been a stellar performer. Likely selling in the next few years for a Tacoma. I no longer need a full size pickup. Sadly, I’ll likely never buy another GM product. Almost as if they’re built from spare parts….

And, a thing or two about life. I'm 70, and he has reminded me of some things that I had, let us say, disremembered. Reremendering them is good. Odd, but good. My very best to him. I wonder if he gets tired of all the near-worship he gets.

I am an HVAC tech and approve of this video. Good stuff Scotty
I agree, HVAC tech here also. I have seen auto techs charge cars and said what the f! Thats wrong, there is way more to charging ac than craming tons of refrigerant in!

What about a/c oil???? does it need a can of oil?
@@magnumpi28 if it all leaked out it will need oil for sure, if the leak was on the High side pressure line it will need more. It is hard to say how much leaked out so it can be tricky.
DO NOT use a whole lot of oil, to much is more harmful that a lil underfilled

Scotty is the best and honest mechanic ever! It's hard to find mechanics like scotty, his a rare gem.
This video is very educational. It is like Scotty Kilmer is some auto mechanics professor at some community college vehicle mechanics class.
Community college? You mean at an university. Well, maybe you're right. Maybe a rogue professor if at a university.
I wish I could have worked with Scotty for a few years, most awesome mechanic. You're a good man Scotty
I don't understand why you left texas for tennessee, but I will always respect it. You're still the best, informative, and real mechanic. Keep the great content coming Amigo
@Francisco Vasquez he said there was too much rich yuppies coming in & being disturbing, with too many Porshes. I’m 90% sure that’s what he said. But more importantly he said his grandkids live in Tennessee so he wanted to be closer.

Oi added, refrigerator stuff on my honda at my mechanics..he was just loaning me his stuff. I still have no cold air. He showed me that I have a small leak. You could see the wet on the corner of the radiator. Any simple solution?
I knew a young man that told me his air conditioning was not working, so he took it to the same shop that installed a used set of ring and pinion gears in my pickup without telling me, so just for the heck of it he scratches his initials on the bottom side of the ac compressor,
He gets his car back from the shop and the air conditioning is now working ( for 360.00 ) they had to replace the ac compressor , it was all pretty with a new paint job but his initials were still on the bottom of the compressor :)
So did you guys go back and say something?
Maybe they rebuilt it and used the same housing?
Well the air conditioning compressor didn’t happen to me so I don’t have all the details of it,

that's the truth, how can it rain get down 72 degrees after a rainstorm then less 2 hours later its 90 degrees n very steamy and humid, it still amazes me the weirdness of the weather even living here over 3 decades lol
Yeah. I'm stubbornly hanging onto my 2004 Colorado with i5 engine. I only have 1 window (passenger window) that still goes down and my A.C stopped blowing cold. Talk about a hot ride! Lol. Gonna try and fix it myself.

I replaced the accumulator on my car last year and used the exact method for vacuuming and refiling with 134A. It's still working perfectly a year later.
What did you do with the refrigerant you pulled out? Or was the system completely empty before you started the process?
@@derekjackson3990 The accumulator was rusted out, so all of the freon leaked out when it blew.

This is a great Scotty video. The reason I started watching him in the first place. Thank you Scotty!
Something was wrong with my AC. I almost went diy, but I took it to my mechanic. Turns out it was overcharged. They corrected it. Now it works very well.

Where are you supposed to capture the evacuated Freon? It is illegal to just dump it; as you know. The last system that failed on my 90 Geo Storm had to be properly done. I'm not doing a full replacement including the compressor etc. It cost $1,500 for the job. I told the dealer not to fill it with the wrong refrigerant or it won't work. They tried and got caught! They ate the cost of evacuation and fill done by a A/C shop. Now it works like factory new.
Thank you sooo much for this great info Scotty!
I feel confident enough to do it myself, thank you!!
Little known fact, when the Ozon scare was created DuPont's patent on Freon 12 was expiring, so Freon was going to get cheap. Guess who has the patent on the new Freon's.
evil. not supporting DuPont
I was born into a family with dad running a Sunoco service station so I’ve been around this mechanic stuff for years and it’s true we used to service people and their cars now they sell people crap they don’t need at exorbitant prices, life was good 👍
I bought a valve system for refrigerant when I saw someone had thrown out a huge ice cream fridge and I plugged it in but it refused to cool off. I figured it was worth the money to see if I could fix this $800 freezer. It worked! Shortly after I bought a used car and it needed to be recharged so I did it myself after buying a $10 can of refrigerant. They are cheaper if you already have the valve part. Now my car puts out an arctic blast! Pretty proud of myself and have a lot of extra cash in my pocket.
Thank You Scotty For Training Us.

Holy crap that's BRILLIANT ! Man, I wish I had known this a few years ago when I went AC hell for a month or two.
Great video, I would change the shrader valves anytime you completely evacuate the system and refill. Especially if it’s 15 years old. They leak very often on the low side after charging even if you do it correctly. Usually they cost less than a can of coolant.
THAT, my friend, is GREAT ADVICE!!! Just make sure the new Schrader valve is identical to the old one. Replacing the valve can save you a bunch of future heartache!!
@Richard Pedroza No they are not all the same on the high side. The low side are are pretty much the same.
@Richard Pedroza order by model...even gms.... high side and low side are different sizes of valves

Scotty we all need you mate!!!! I just had my aircon serviced on my Vito van and instead of 800g of gas she was down to 350 so the air was coolish but certainly not cold. So following a long hot drive home I decided to have her done and as you can imagine the difference is amazing!! You did not mention in this video that you should also change the cabin filter from time to time, mine was filthy so now the smell is much improved AND I cleaned out the vents using a can with a very long flexible hose. Thank you for this. I use your advice for my 2002 Nissan frontier.
This is an awesome video. Maybe I missed something, when you use the pump to remove the refrigerant that is in the system, what do you do with it. Does the pump store it? How is it disposed of.
If you have a nonworking system most of the time the refrigerant has already leaked out all you are doing is creating a vacuum so that you can reinstall refrigerant without having air in there to mess up the system
If it won’t hold the vacuum then you’re finding a leak under vacuum when you have to look around and see if you can spot where you have what looks like an oil stain on a line or something or possibly use dye and a black light
If you can’t find anything let it run and let the water drip out of the evaporator and hit that with the black light and if you see the dye in the water then you got a problem because most evaporators are an SOB to change
Scotty has forgotten more than I know but I have picked up a little over the years
Keep it up Scotty !
I have been doing my automotive ac for many years now . Doesn't cost hardly anything and it is amazingly simple most of the time .
how do you deal with sucking refrigerant out? do you own a recycler or just vent it?
@@fruitshishkabob - usually it is empty and I fix the leaks - vacuum it down and refill

The knowledge this man has.
Scotty are you advocating venting an existing that is low on refrigerant and then evacuation via vacuum, or only evacuate on an almost empty system where the low pressure protection prevents the compressor clutch from engaging?
People don't realize that vehicles "air conditioning systems" are not true air conditioning like your house. They are in fact High temperature Freezer Systems because of the heat load and poor insulation of a vehicle. True air conditioner would never cool it for comfort in a vehicle.
I bought a 30 pound cylinder 6 months ago and my cost was outrageous even at wholesale.
