Do you think changing it so Prizes are actually representative of your "health" would be better? Like, you have 6 Pokemon and when you run out of your "prizes" you lose. You take a "prize" when your Pokemon is knocked out. (like in the games) I know some prizes can probably be useless but short of having some kind of come back deck mechanic that is filled with cards that help you recover, I don't know what would really be fair/plausible. Games tend to stop being fun when there's no way to make a comeback, but it can't just be some bullshit mechanic either.
Yes indeed, the life system used by 90% of TCGs made in Japan after Pokemon based on the shittiness of Pokemon's prize system is the one that's better!
