Diet and brain health: You are what you eat?

  • Опубліковано 23 лис 2019
  • A key element in brain health is nutrition, say researchers who believe the number one factor that you have control over in terms of your mental health is at the end of your fork. Susan Spencer talks with Dr. Drew Ramsey, a psychiatrist who in his book "Eat Complete" prescribes a healthier diet in order to combat depression; Samantha Elkrief, a trained chef and wellness coach; and neuroscientist Lisa Mosconi (author of "Brain Food"), for whom brain scans reveal the differences in brain structure between those who eat a Mediterranean diet and those who consume standard Western fare.

Ggg so true! I had a friend that has a son with autism who specialized in healing through nutrition. Her son is in his 20’s and has no symptoms. She also said that same doctor hardly ever sees the same results because the parents are not willing to go through the process of healing with food.

I wish I could get my niece to be more like you people.... her son has real bad ADDhyperactive and is developmentally delayed.... it's a long story but she had him on all kinds of disgusting medications for his asthma and all kinds of antibiotics that destroyed his gut flora for years... I tried to educate her and was sending her info and videos but she didn't want to watch anything... in the end I had to basically cut it down to only just talking to her on holidays to say hello because of the way she was destroying her child.... yes she made some changes but not enough .
Now her son is about 10 years old and he doesn't want to wear any clothing.... as soon as he comes home from school he strips down and won't wear even underwear because everything hurts his skin and I know it's from all the chemicals he was on .

As a type-1 diabetic of almost 53 years, I can unequivocally vouch for the fact that diet affects one's mental health. I have had literally hundreds of low-blood sugar episodes in my lifetime. And one of the ways I can tell that I'm having a hypoglycemic incident (without resorting to finger-pricks) is that I will feel depressed. Depending on how low my blood-sugar is, I can become so totally discombobulated that I lose all sense of self, motor control, environment, etc.
But as soon as I eat something, all these symptoms totally disappear. In fact, just a smidgen of dextrose (a type of sugar) in a Splenda packet can help me to start feeling "normal".

Jeffrey, please watch the free documentary on you tube called “Super Juice me” and also the free documentary called “Sick, fat & nearly dead” on their site “Sick, fat & nearly dead”. See also the book Eat to Live by Dr Joel Furhman. And do a search on you tube for Jason Vale’s juicing videos & look up Plant Nation on you tube. These will open your mind up to healing your body.
Look into water fasting you tube videos from Dr Berg & Dr Pelz.
Check with your doctor first before making any dietary changes.
Sorry you have been suffering for so long. There is help. Just do your research. YES, clean healthy food is the key to good health. What we are sold in the Grocery store is mostly poison.
      Wishing you all the best.

Your depleted of vitamin b in your diet. Your body craves nuturients not toxic sugar. Sprinkled some nuturional yeast. Or fermented rice water which produces inositol.
Thy food is a whole new world body and spirit that the american diet has surpressed

    • @jeffreyslotnikoff4003

@@calisuds9830 In fact, I already sprinkle some Nutritional Yeast in everything that I eat. Plus, whatever foods I eat that have added sugar in them, I make sure also contain various seeds and nuts, which as a counteract.
One of the reasons for my hundreds of hypoglycemic episodes for so many years is that, like all insulin-dependent diabetics, I have built up a substantial amount of scar tissue because of all the injections I have daily performed. This interferes with the insulin's absorption. So I experience a high blood-sugar (which is simply annoying to go through as I wind up needing to urinate every hour or so.) So I don't eat as much.
But that insulin dose is still inside me. So when I inject again, that subsequent dose, plus the insulin already in me, packs a double wallop when they start combining forces!
      It's then that I undergo a low blood-sugar.
It's what comes with the turf of being a type-1 as long as I have been.

Am I the only one who thinks the fruit sold in supermarket is nothing but pure crap. Cantaloupes from Peru, so hard and tasteless , sit waiting on my kitchen counter to ripen for weeks, and plums like rocks. Tomatoes taste like cardboard. So i buy mostly avocados , green lettuce and berries .

I hear you! Years ago (I'm 66) produce areas in markets actually had pronounced and distinct aromas of fruits and vegetables wafting in the air. I would sniff produce to select the freshest. Those were the days my friend.

PS: Once produce is harvested, ripening ends. Next phase is decay.

Food is important for good health. Also, prayer goes a long way with depression, but, you got to have the faith . After all, God made our brain s and our whole body for that matter. Use common sense in your diet and everything else you do , because stress is bad for us too .

In fact, this should be taught in school. not taught in a way like "what you should eat" and "what you shouldnt" and thats it, we need to educate people WHY that matters, for example, brainpower, longevity, the fact that its a leading cause of death etc.

Good fats are so important for good brain and mental health. Stop lumping all fats - the bad and the good ones - into one category called “fat.”
