I think there’s a lot to be said for keeping things as minimalist as possible when it comes to gear. You also hit on a good point David when you mentioned about choosing one main niche to concentrate on. I’m interested in all branches of photography, but 95% of the time I do street, so it makes no sense for me to buy a 600 mm lens & a carbon fibre tripod (for example), that I might use two days a year. When I’m out doing street photography, obviously I notice the gear others are using. It’s surprising how many go totally OTT, with two camera bodies, long lenses, backpack etc. Maybe some of them manage to fit a wildlife expedition in on the same day, I don’t know 😊
