      @@TheRomanCatholicChurch, of course!
1st Lateran, Pope St. Gregory the Great, Trent, I don't think that a person can hold to Catholic dogma and doctrine in a legitimate sense without both maintaining that teaching and operating according to it.
There would be no reason for the Great Commission otherwise.

      @@TheRomanCatholicChurch, that depends.
We have it documented that the goal of the Modernist heretics was to open the Overton Window of expectation on the "Council" of Vatican II by insinuating language with broader, more general definitions.
This was done intentionally by the acolytes of the Nouvelle Theologie to leave a door ajar in order to come back later and claim a looser interpretation to Catholic doctrine than was intended.
It is important not to lose track of the fact that both John XXIII and Paul VI said that V2 exercised no "extraordinary magisterium", leaving only ordinary magisterium.
It is illicit and bad reasoning (illogical) to interpret V2's badly written documents beyond previously established and contemporarily taught (in the 1950s/60s) doctrine.
Aside from largely being a sales meeting, V2 was mostly procedural and administrative in it's authority.
Sancrosantum Concilium even (when it can be bothered to actually give a straight answer) exhorts that the Latin Mass must be maintained and that Gregorian Chant has to be given the place of preference in liturgical music.
It further specifies that there can be no unilateral or severe changes to the Mass, that only gradual, organic changes can be authorized to take place.
Doing the math here: must keep Latin, prefer Gregorian Chant, can't make drastic Mass changes.
That is a safeguard against EXACTLY what Jorge Bergoglio has been trying to do.
That's a long answer to say the following.
V2 was an ecumenical council, technically, but one that by it's own opening and closing was not permitted to make any unique, binding effect to Catholic teaching.
      It is a sales meeting.
Ironically, the Modernist poisoning of the council will only serve to ensnare them now. Bergoglio now exceeds the Council, making drastic, unilateral changes, eliminating Latin, and not being able to abide by even the bent and softened rules.
      Catholic teaching cannot change.
What was right for Pope St. Leo the Great, is right for St. John Damascene, is right for St. Bernard, is right for St. Thomas Aquinas, is right for St. John Fisher, etc.
We can only increase resolution and detail, not change the nature of the eternal.
Too bad for James Martin and his merry band of Modernists.

@@TheRomanCatholicChurch, it is a terribly untrue interpretation of Catholic doctrine to equare Catholic and non-Catholic.
I wrote a big post on what I thought of V2 and novelties found in its pages.
Essentially, it cannot purport anything diverging from previously established doctrine because it was ordinary magisterium.
It is a toothless document full of half-truths and only contributing administrative value.
It only helps when it stands in the way of the Modernists, like in Sacrosanctum Concilium.

Man pronounced anathema on those outside of the Roman church, is that correct?
You, logically following the orthodox teaching of Rome, hold to this view, and are going around saying “convert to Roman Catholicism or remain lost and on the way to perdition”.. Is that too correct?
What shall we say to this? Well, you are consistent with your beliefs and conviction that Roman Catholicism is true. Therefore you must condemn all those outside of Rome.
But where do we see this in the word of God?
My authority is the word of God, over and above the word of man. God was pleased to reveal the Gospel of His Son to me when I was a hellbound sinner. God in mercy granted me faith to receive the good news of forgiveness of sin and eternal life in Jesus Christ, by His sacrificial death and resurrection from the dead. Ever since that moment I have enjoyed fellowship with God, having been born of the Holy Spirit.
Back to the question of your assertion. You would surely say I am lost despite my testimony to the contrary. Importantly, what does God say on this matter of those outside of the church of Rome? Well, nothing actually. Nowhere does God state Rome is the one true church and there is no salvation outside of it. Romanists love to quote Jesus’ words to Peter in Matthew 16:18, as if that somehow meant they were right. But how does Jesus’ words here to Peter mean that Rome is the only true church? Assumptions must be made in order to conclude that. Those assumptions being that Peter is the Pope of Rome who has all authority over other churches, and that this establishment of the Church of Rome alone is the abiding church standing strong against outsiders. But here is the problem - those assumptions cannot be demonstrated to be true. In fact, where is the evidence to show that? I’m reading Eusebius, the early Christian historian and he never speaks in this way. In actual fact, there have been divisions, contradictions and various atrocities throughout the history of the church of Rome. The Lord Jesus and the apostles spoke of many false teachers and false prophets who would come in the midst of the churches and lead many astray. And in fact we see from the teachings of Scripture that Rome has departed from fundamental biblical teaching is several key areas. Just take Martin Luther’s 95 theses on indulgences for example to show this, or John Calvin comparing justification as the apostle teaches it in Romans 3 and 4 against the teachings Rome has adopted in her catechism.
How can you hold so firmly to Rome then? I would honour Hod rather than man. Therefore I can not turn to her with all her idolatries. I would urge you to compare these teachings of Rome with the word of God also. For we all must appear before Him to give an account.

David’s sin was greater than yours. He was an adulterer and a murderer. Paul’s sin was greater than yours. He was a mass murderer of christians. Both were forgiven. The scriptures say if you confess your sins, He is faithful and true and will forgive you. Trust in the work Christ did on the cross. You are to put your sins on his shoulders, not your own. Rest in what He did on the cross. Ask Him, he will do it.

Say the sinners prayer and if you've prayed this prayer we believe you are now a Christian so find a good Bible believing church. Once saved always saved; blessed assurance and all of that. Just a quick thought: If Christ's model is of soteriological impact then it must of necessity have ontological implications. It follows that our participation in Christ and he in us is what achieves this. As such any ontological impact must have its origins in a relationality (Jn.17) which is achieved by reciprocating God's desire for us with our desire for him and by enacting that through participation in the sacraments of baptism and the eucharist which model and in the latter case, embody Him.

Every complete syllogism has simple, immediate understandings that fall apart under further examination.
In other words, a small mistake made for simplicity sake at the foundation causes the top of the building to tilt drastically by the 50th floor.
Salvation is NOT the simple, 2-dimentional, internally inconsistent, religious outlook born in the 16th century.
It's simple because it doesn't care about being complete truth. It doesn't care about reconciling its answers to formal logic, to natural law, to what we know through the traditions passed on from the apostles.
They make up what sounds good to their outlook. It is a self-fulfilling prophecy.
True religion requires me to conform to God's will, not the other way around.

That is not all. You also need to offer the Risen Saviour your LOVE because even though salvation is a FREE gift, He grants it to those who fulfill a certain requirement: and that is LOVE. The inheritance that God has prepared in heaven are for those who LOVE HIM (1 Corinthians 2:9; James 2:5). And so you need to keep on loving God EVERY DAY of your life if you want to receive the salvation that Christ will bring when He comes again to "SAVE those who are waiting for him" (Hebrews 9:28)

It is the Holy Spirit that draws a person to Jesus to be saved . Read Romans 10: 8-11 whosoever calls upon the name of the Lord shall be saved . @@isrberlinerin4063 Sorry but you are gravely mistaken
      1) When I said that the heavenly inheritance that God has prepared are for those who LOVE HIM (James 2:5; 1 Corinthians 2:9), I was in no way saying that God expects us to take the initiative by loving Him first. God is the one who has taken the initiative to love us by sending His Son to die for us. Our love for God is only a RESPONSE to His love for us (1 John 4:17). But this response from us is actually NOT OPTIONAL. We cannot say that we will possess our heavenly inheritance WHETHER we love Him OR NOT. God EXPECTS us to LOVE Him as a response to His love for us, and has made our love a REQUIREMENT for receiving the salvation that Jesus brings. As Hebrews 5:9 says, Jesus brings salvation to not just anybody but to those WHO OBEY HIM. And our obedience is the manifestation of our LOVE for Him. And so in order to be saved, we need to have FAITH in Him and to LOVE Him.
      2) But if salvation is a FREE gift, doesn't it mean that we don't have to DO ANYTHING before receiving it? Why then would God make our LOVE for Him a requirement for receiving salvation? Well, salvation is FREE because as human beings we are incapable of BUYING or PURCHASING it or EARNING it. "Free" means "not PAYING for something". It doesn't necessarily mean "not doing anything before receiving something". Our Love for God is a REQUIREMENT and not a PRICE we pay in order to earn salvation. Nothing stops God from expecting certain requirements to be fulfilled before giving out FREE gifts. For instance, Acts 5:32 says that God gives the Holy Spirit to those who OBEY HIM. Obedience here is simply a requirement and not a price because the Holy Spirit is the FREE gift of God and we cannot EARN the Holy Spirit by obeying God.
      3) Protestants love to quote the words of Jesus "it is FINISHED" to Catholics because they wrongly think that Catholics do WORKS out of a belief that the death of Jesus was INSUFFICIENT to obtain for us salvation. That is not true. Catholics realize the importance of loving God and the fact that real love manifests itself in our ACTIONS or WORKS.
      4) You have clearly misunderstood Matthew 24:13. Jesus said that whoever perseveres to the END will be saved. He didn't specifically say: "whoever perseveres until I come again will be saved". The "End" in Matthew 24:13 more accurately refers to the END of our lives on earth. Anyone who perseveres through trials and tribulations right up to the END of his life on earth will be SAVED by being rewarded with heavenly glory -- it doesn't really matter if such a person dies BEFORE Jesus comes again. In 2 Timothy 4:7 - 8, Paul was confident of receiving his heavenly reward because he had persevered in his faith right up to the END of his life on earth (even though he died BEFORE the second coming of Jesus).
So our salvation is not all about a SINGLE ACTION that we perform ONCE in our lifetime. It is actually about how we live our lives right up to the END of our lives.

Not just surrender to the authority of our lord Jesus Christ, but actually surrender to the way of Christ, the call to pick up your cross, to become part of Christ in His body. So 'Am I saved' .. Yip! If you are baptised into Christ (you have 'been' saved, as Noah and those in his Ark had been saved from the watery grave); if you are not in the Ark of Christ's Body, then, Nope!
Are you therefore ever true to that divine call .. i.e. man's salvation from the rewards of sin aka death, in the one Name that offers salvation from it - as a New Creation = in the New Adam .. not necessarily so; Baptism is what God has chosen to do for us, as He promised (a sacramentum = the mystery of a pledge), yet how we freely choose to respond to that gift .. remains up to us, either we accept God's grace to help us be true to Him, or we junk it (you are being 'saved', or you refuse to be saved).
The Day, at the Last Judgement, shall reveal to us all who is saved and who has rejected it; at our own particular judgement, after mortal flesh has died, we will meet that fact, face to face, and receive our recompense in Christ - accepted as His own ('you' are saved, even if you go to Purgatory, the fiery test on our apostolic deeds) or rejected as belonging to another because we do not want to be part of Him (for 'salvation' in Him is just not our thing).
Keep the Faith; tell the truth, shame the devil, and let the demons shriek.
    God bless. ;o)
P.S. Can God save us without the Sacrament of Baptism into Christ .. Yip! It is what He has chosen to do, nonetheless, He is free to choose other gifts to give us in lieu of it .. but salvation from death in Old Adam is still His to give in Christ alone, and ours to repudiate it or accept it. There is no other Name by which we can be saved, so we are commanded by Christ to undertake an apostolic mission whether it suits us or not, for Baptism in the Name of the Father, and in the Name of the Son, and in the Name of Holy Ghost is God's Way, the Truth, our Life ... so, dear soul, don't go out and make a mess, get up and do the works which God had prepared beforehand to be our way of life in Christ (that is the Faith, btw, whether or not a passing pope suggests otherwise).

    Good episode. Thanks.
Just by the way. You mentioned Thomas Aquinas. You probably know that towards the end of his life, he apparently received a divine revelation while saying Mass upon which he said:
"All that I have written is straw, in respect to those things that I have seen and have lately been revealed to me".
I believe he was dead serious, because in fact, he never wrote another word, leaving his master work, the Summa Theologiae, unfinished. I honestly believe he had been shown by the Lord God Almighty who made heaven and earth, that his writings were in fact, worthless.
Let us remember that straw is that part of the grain harvest that has no value insofar as human consumption. However:
"The grass withers, the flower fades, but the Word of our God stands forever.
    Isaiah 40:8
And; " In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. In Him was Life, and the Life was the Light of men. The Light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it.
    John 1:1‭-‬2‭, ‬4‭-‬5
I am a 69 year old Christian. The Word of God has been my Light, my Life and my Salvation since I got saved about 45 years ago. The writings of the Church Fathers and others like Thomas Aquinas are somewhat interesting but they are not, and are always far inferior to, the Word of that Blessed Person.
My own humble two cents. Immerse yourself in His Word. Love His Word. Embrace and study His Word. You will not be disappointed.
Now may the God of peace Himself sanctify you entirely; and may your spirit and soul and body be preserved complete, without blame at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Lol this video could be 10 seconds long. You literally just have to believe the gospel, that Christ died for your sins, and rose again on the third day. That's it, the moment you believe that you are saved for eternity and you can never lose your salvation. Any other "gospel" you preach is wrong, and certainly not good news.

Lol you could just be less of a laughing proud pretentious heretic to acknowledge that your limited terrible personal understanding of God's word, message and plan resulted in this literal heretical presumptuous theology of yours where "you believe that you are saved for eternity and you can never lose salvation" as if Christ took the freewill out of His followers.

Why worry about St. Aquinas. It is Jesus that saves your soul. Have faith that He is your Savior, repent of your sins and then live for Him. No priest involved, and no Eucharist to take.

Why worry about Ben Calvert? It is quite clear he hasn't given this topic any real thought and will lead the foolishly equal astray. Like a typical non-Catholic that doesn't know his bible, nor understand what he is talking about; he merely spouts idiotic troll comments and then runs without explaining himself. I would listen to a drunken Aquinas all day before giving a Ben Calvert a split second of my time.

@@39knights Aquinas had many good things to say. I was talking about salvation and as usual a Catholic shows up that hasn't a clue about what salvation is or how to become saved. It isn't by any catholic doctrine or Mary. One of these Catholics that confesses to a priest on a Friday and Saturday is at the bar drinking with the same priest.

@@bcalvert321 here’s the difference ben, Saint Thomas has actually made it to heaven, so His opinions on Jesus’s teachings are relevant. You on the other hand, are not in heaven, thus your opinion on Jesus’s teachings are not relevant.

@@bcalvert321 "....a Catholic shows up that hasn't a clue ..." The fact I have remained Catholic and continues to participate in the One True Apostolic Faith that Jesus founded; shows I have more of a clue that you (even if it isn't that much more).
"... It isn't by any catholic doctrine or Mary...." So says Ben Calvert based on his own human authority which somehow trumps that of the Apostles and their duly appointed successors. Would you like to give us poor Catholics a lesson on Soteriology which amounts to more than the evangelical mantra 'Christ did it all on the Cross' which explains nothing; at least nothing we didn't already know before Ben Calvert came along? Go ahead and take a stab at it; let's just see how brilliant your thoughts on the subject are when they are put out there in concrete form for all to see your erroneous thinking. Quite easy to take jabs at others attempt; but see what happens when you try to pen your own thoughts (if you have any).
"....One of these Catholics that confesses to a priest on a Friday...." Well at least you seem to understand one part of the bible where Jesus gives priests the Authority to forgive sins in His name as every real Christian has done since the time of the Apostles. At least it is the biblical way. Though I never drink to get drunk which no well-formed Catholic should do; so I am not sure what you were implying with the rest of your statement.
Anyway let's see some of your clear brilliant thoughts on how salvation is achieved. This should be entertaining.

Faith alone is a heretical false protesting doctrine, just like sola scriptura. FAITH WITHOUT GOOD WORKS IS DEAD (JAMES 2:14-26). We follow church teaching because Jesus gave authority to the church, not your own personal opinion of the bible i.e. false sola scriptura doctrine. Saints are the heroes of the church and the faith. Protestantism is about division and confusion and has a history of false end timers and preachers.
