Fast Tip Friday: Adding Sylvania ZEVO LED bulbs to the 2007 Tahoe (they are awesome!)

  • Hey guys, Happy Friday! Sylvania ZEVO LED bulbs are actually pretty dang great, as long as you're using them in the correct type of light housing. They don't work in every single application, but for most Chevy pickups and SUVs made in the last 30 or so years, they should work really well. Have a look and tell me what you think.
    Happy Independence Day! Have a fun, safe and memorable weekend!

    U should also give the sylvania zevo 7443W led bulbs, and find those with a bubble on the led diode for water degree of light for your reverse light. Those would love sharp on ur Tahoe and it will look good and match with the rest of the zevo led bulbs. 🙏🏼

    I have had great wonders with these parts store bulbs. I currently have aftermarket LED taillights on my truck and the difference between the dim and the brake is not as great as these are, my friends have told me the brake lights are bright but seeing my turn signal is almost impossible if the running lights are on at night, I may go back to stock housings and use these bulbs

      Couldn't agree more. That was the biggest issue I had with some of the cheaper bulbs that you can find on Amazon, ebay, etc...not nearly enough contrast between dim and bright. These work so well that my boss actually asked me to install them on his work F350, personal F350 and his wife's suburban. 😎

      Very nice! I was skeptical when I first installed them because of such little chips they have but I am rather impressed, the only thing I recommend now.

    some people said that the resistor become very hot is that truth?
    knowing that they use it in another way, which is to connect the two resistor cables to the lighting wires

      Resistors become hot no matter how they are wired; they create resistance in the circuit which is dissipated as heat. The only difference in the way I decide to wire mine is a direct ground connection rather than relying on a ground wire in the harness, that could potentially backfeed another circuit and cause issues somewhere else.

    I’ve been running my sylvania zevo 7443R led bulbs for the past few months. I usually want something brighter than zevo, but it was more higher price and a great reputable brand.
    But after running these zevo’s, it slowly becomes my most favorite led. These work very well and it uses my reflector polish tail light housing, on my 2015 lifted Scion xB. And they work fantastic. Turn signals on the other hand for 7440, not so much. It works but not bright enough, and it doesn’t filled my reflectors entirely. So a 360 type led from lasfit or auxito works a lot better. But I’m happy with my zevo.

    Any chance you know the exact part #/ model of sylvania zevo bulb? There are quite a few different zevo led mini bulbs.

      For this vehicle, they are Zevo 3156R (the 'R' designates red in this case, they also make amber and white with 'A' and 'W' designations, respectively). You can go onto Sylvania's website and put your vehicle year/make/model in, and the site will show you exactly which bulbs you need for any part of your vehicle. Follow the link below. Hope that helps!

      @@AllThingsMech ok great thx! Also what resistor did you use? I have a 2009 Chevy Tahoe and I’m looking to do the same setup when the weather gets warmer

      I usually just use the cheap ones you can buy on Amazon or ebay, search for "LED resistor" and you will get a bunch of hits on Amazon. You're looking for the gold colored 50w 6 ohm load resistors, a set of four is only $8.99. I will say that the cheap ones are cheap for a reason, I've had 3 of them fail over the last couple of years between my tahoe and silverado. A much nicer resistor is available from VLEDs, but they are about $20 each. For the cost, the cheap ones have worked pretty well for me - just buy a few extra in case you need to replace one. Also keep in mind that I live in a very remote place with absolutely crap roads that are very rough, which probably explains the failures. lol

      @@AllThingsMech ok thanks for that! Last question did you use the 3156r bulb for both the turn signal and the brake light?

    • @AllThingsMech
      @AllThingsMech  2 роки тому

      Yep, sure did. And it's no trouble at all! Any other questions feel free to ask.

    Question everything I read online and on the sylvania link doesn’t give any suggestions or recommendations for 2011 Tahoe reverse (back up light) is your reverse light the same size 3156 or is it 7440?

    • @AllThingsMech
      @AllThingsMech  2 роки тому

      As a general rule, reverse light bulbs are smaller than the brake/tail/turn bulbs since they are used infrequently and don't need to be very bright (well, the manufacturers don't *think* they need to be very bright, but that's a whole different argument). It's been a while but I'm fairly confident that the reverse bulbs are 7440. Best thing to do is pull your housing off real quick and double check before you buy anything.

    I would try the ZEVO on my Nissan. Really the Chinese ones are hit or miss. They might be poorly made. It wouldn't be the first time an item from China was low quality! Some Sylvania bulbs are made in Germany. It just takes a fairly good magnifier to read it on the bulb.

      And some others are made in Italy
