I always found the BloodSouls games not too challenging despite what everyone says. Now I know the reason. This guy and Lingering Will trained everyone for what From Soft has to offer.
The boss fight with the Lingering Will gives you sound cues to tell you which attack he's using and when to dodge or block said attack, it's mostly a matter of how quick your reflexes are. A very difficult but well designed boss. I bring this up to compare a well-designed boss fight, that being the Lingering Will, to a poorly designed one, the Mysterious Figure. The only pheasable way to defeat him is to incessantly mash the square button until your thumb falls off to use Ven and Aqua's broken dodge rolls and spam surge attacks (this fight is damn near impossible with Terra) and it's such a draining, mind-numbing boss fight as a result. There should be a sense of satisfaction upon defeating a boss that gave you such a hard time but with the Mysterious Figure, that just wasn't there (for me at least). It was merely the thought of "oh thank god, it's finally over. I never thought that was going to end". At least the music is great tho.
