I'm honestly slightly worried for the future of prequel era sets. I think LEGO is starting to realise that no matter how mediocre a set is it'll sell like hotcakes if it has unique clones in it because everyone loves army building, and even if the average consumer isn't into it, it doesn't matter at all because there's always absurdly rich LEGO fans who will spend thousands on a set just so they can brag about their clone army size.
My biggest wish would be some big, high quality prequel sets. I don't even care if they would be expensive. The yellow prequel Y-Wing that we have only gotten one of (set 8037)? Or maybe Count Dooku's Solar Sailer. It's been 13 years since we got the previous one.
Lego has been pretty good with this 40 dollars Star Wars set. in 2020 we got AAT, 2021 we got Imperial Armored Marauder, and now we got Republic Fighter Tank. And all three sets does have exclusive figures, i would love to see more Lego Star Wars sets in the future with 40 dollars price point with exclusive figures just like these sets.
While this set is fine and I plan on getting it, I do hope that we get more and better prequel sets later this summer. Especially more The Bad Batch stuff, since it was overshadowed by the Mandalorian season 2
The past six months to a year have really showed what Lego and the Lego Star Wars design team feel about the different SW eras. The prequel era gets simple, almost 5+ City set -like tanks with minifigures based literally on toys. The sequel era has recently got one 4+ set and nothing else. The original trilogy era on the other hand has received a massive UCS set that can’t be played with without tools, four non-playable dioramas with black borders and highly detailed figures and even some decent playsets that actually look good as well (AT-ST, the Mandalorian wave, etc.). Our first prequel UCS set in years was accidentally referred to as an OT vehicle and branded with an Imperial logo and the exclusive figures were released in smaller sets, because not everyone (subtext: kids?) can afford big collectable sets. It’s very disappointing to me, because in the past they’ve balanced the toy and collectable aspects of the sets perfectly and made good sets for all three major eras.
It's based on sales. The ucs gunship hasn't sold well at all. Lego is governed only by the all mighty dollar. The prequel crowd loves minifigures more than builds, this Marvel type set exemplifies that. The mis branding is the only reason I bought the ucs gunship-investment purposes-Lego did that on purpose. Lego is playing 4d chess not checkers.
"subtext: kids" rubs me a bit the wrong way. I'm a 20 year old student and a big Lego StarWars sets. I would love to build a big republic army but simply don't have the money to do so. Keeping figures exclusive to these very expensive sets is just assuring that less fortunate (subtext: not rich people) can't and never will be able to get the nicest figures, if they are not willing to throw over 20 bucks at a single plastic figure. I agree with most other things you said though, Lego is clearly biassed towards the OT, but maybe that is because those sets sell better, and the people who buy republic sets for thousands of dollars to build an army are 1% of the consumers. That being said, I would like to get some 60-100 dollar Prequel sets that are not stationary diorama's to flesh out my army too.
I mean, it’s a good business strategy. That’s why lego has made so many mandalorian sets already. But I would love to see a lot more prequel/clonewars sets.
We see Mace Windu’s battalion early in the clone wars with commander Pond’s group and their maroon markings, as well as in season 7. They were not officially named the 187th battalion in canon until hasbro revealed their Star Wars black series 187th clone trooper, which bears the maroon markings seen on Mace’s troopers in season 7 and earlier in the show. The figures in the set are based on that old Mace Windu’s Battallion box set from the 2000’s.
I agree with the popular opinion: good figs, average build. But, I’m a huge fan of the original Fighter Tank set. I’ll get two of these for the figures, and use the parts to make a bigger one at that older scale!
The figures are insane, the base of the Republic Tank is pretty good but the upper part is not kinda bad, too high and to big, need a lot of fixing is needed. The one with Ayala was definitly better, but the figures were definitly worse.
Finally! A Star Wars set that won't break the budget! 😉 I remember having the last tank with the Jedi Aayla Secura but sold it a while back, as I remember it, it was also a decent set at that time, pretty cool review, Jang!
I love the figures here (save for the battle droid because eh they haven't changed much). My favourite part about the clones' markings is that technically we now know what coruscant guard clones would look like with the current, film accurate clone trooper minifigure designs. I’m fairly sure the 187th Legion are part of the official canon. They appeared in Season 7 of the Clone Wars tv show alongside Mace Windu in the Bad Batch episode. The clones just have a slightly different colour on their armour
I personally like it. I got the previous one and that I like even more but it wasn't massable for army building but this new one is and you can find casual lego buyers who will happily have the Mace Windu for 5 or 6 $/£. I know some people moan about it but it can't be that bad a set because my local Lego store is continually out of stock of them and Lego UK has them on backorder now too.
I got two of this set, the first had the cloudy/frosted style lightsaber for Mace, and the second had the normal clear style. So it might be related to the factory they're produced in, or it's just totally random and they haven't decided to commit to the new style yet. (similar thing happened with my ahsoka's lightsabers from the recent AAT. old style in my first copy, frosted in my second copy)
Seems like it would be super easy to invert that rear door with just some inverted bows at the base instead of the standard bow holding on the clip plate. I wonder why they opted to show the anti-studs when the fix would be so easy!
Well probably they did it this way so you can stand up clones with the door open, posing them as if they’re doing maintenance on the tank, or just starting to walk in and “board the vehicle.”
You could put inverted tiles on it from the back so you can preserve the playability of "walking in" etc. and still have it look good from the outside!
Happy Star Wars Day! Weirdly low amount of detail on the tank, but it looks decent and those EU clones look *great* and the frosted purple blade is gorgeous. (I might be biased) I have no idea why Lego included clones who only exist in Legends but you know what they say about looking presented equines in the jaw. May the Fourth be with you!💜
I was looking at the shot at 4:10 and realized this could be a basis for an interesting bat tank design, it looks kinda like a bat face with the windows and the antennae as the bat ears
I like the set, and it's one of the few recent Star Wars sets that I've been ok with the pricing of, to the extent that I was happy to pay retail for it for the May 4th promotion. The last one was only £20, but it was smaller and included two less figs, and that was very good value at the time. Plus, four exclusive figures is pretty nice. I think a lot of the people who have a problem with the tank are looking at the Battlefront II version which has a much lower profile. As Jang said, there have been two versions. The other one, which this set is based on, is taller and I think they have captured it pretty well.
well, my younger cousins (boys age 5,6,6,9 ) all love the set, i showed them the fighter tank , since i just bought it and they loved it . I then showed them the figures and liked it even more. Remember lego is akids toys and i realised that this set is great for this. Oh and those wheels are great from a kids standpoint.

Im confused as to why lego always makes us choose between a good build and good figures with prequel sets. Between the prices and the motto “only the best is good enough” why is that asking too much?
In AUS it’s $70, and over 200 pieces, I wish it were $50 for the piece count. But the figures are very attractive. For the same price the Hoth AT-ST has over 500 pieces.
Cool build! I built this myself, and found the 3 stickers that go on the windshield hard to re-adjust. When I lifted the sticker up after only barely attaching it to the windshield, the glue stayed on the brick, it would not be re-adjusted. The glue seperated from the sticker. Is this only me, or does the winshield pieces grab harder on the stickers?
This feels like a $30 super battle pack that they added a battle tank to in order to make it $40. That said, by the Lego standards of today, not a bad value for what you’re getting. I’m kinda hoping this shows up at Costco so I can get a few on the cheap.
Why not just remove one of the two lip pieces that catch the canopy, center the other one, and now the canopy will sit nice and flush. You don't even have to take the model apart really. The headroom for the minifigure is not affected, and you don't need your nail to open the canopy, just push down on the canopy hinge with your finger. kind of an obvious miss in the design if you ask me.
Man, this set is a real disappointment. I was so excited hearing about getting a new fighter tank, and then I saw it and realized the tank is just there to justify the price tag for those spiffy purple clones. Though to be fair, their last AAT sucked too, so I guess they just can't be bothered with prequel sets.
This set must be exclusive to Official LEGO Stores because to this day, I still haven't even seen the set at any store here, not even its price tag lol

I want this set so freaking badly, and yet I cannot find it anywhere I look. I have checked every store I can think of, both in person and online, and it's like the thing just vanished. The most ridiculous thing about it is that Amazon is selling this thing for NINETY DOLLARS.
I feel they should’ve issued a higher parts budget for such a vehicle, personally I don’t like the look of it but at the end of the day smaller budget keeps the price down and it still does all it really needs to do fair play
Hrnggg. As I suspected from pre-release stuff, the shaping of the tank makes it look like a 4+ set to me, which is unfortunate. I missed the second one, so I was excited when I heard the news of this set, but what we got was this... oh well. It's just... too tall, too flat on the sides of the hull (referring to the white parts). I was ok with TIE fighter and Lambda shuttle from last (last last?) year, so I may be a little hypocritical on this though. I wonder if it can be improved with few extra parts, but then I don't want these figs in particular, so I'm not sure if I want to get this set. I hope future sets will... just look better.

I like the set. However I do not like the inclusion of the purple troops, It is the first time we’ve ever gotten them and are fairly obscure compared to other clone groups, it really removes the usability factor of this set due to the obscurity, and lack of these clone troops. Having 501st or 332nd, or plain clones would of been much more recognisable and greatly improve the versatility of the set.
I think it's fine. We already have the 501st battle pack so we don't need to see them again for a while, 332nd might be a good inclusion since you can only get one with the battle droid tank set. I do think getting these is fine however I would have preferred to see them in a battle pack like set.
If it was a normal retail set the price would've been okay since you could buy it on sale for 30 but since you gotta buy it from Lego directly for 40 it's a no from me. Otherwise it's a cool little set though
Republic Flaw Tank. The hollow stud - I addressed that before: Lego bla bla so much about their QA. How comes, the antenna plop on top so lazy loose in the final product?? And (TX-130) pilot/driver without a control device - how comes to this nonsense??? Beware, these requirements could perform without extra effort, the set's 262 limit stick (just drop 3 spare parts).
Compared to how much I liked the last version of this vehicle (2016?), this one's pretty bad. Too large, insufficiently accurate. It's definitely a figure pack for more detail-oriented collectors.
LEGO needs to bite the bullet and dual mold those white legs with purple rather than that lame little purple chunk that cuts off. other than that tho, very nice figs (which is all i really care about from the set)

Really interesting I bought this set in Tokyo today and Mace Windu’s light saber is the non frosted version!
I kinda like this set, with that said I will definitely be modifying this set a little bit so the cannons look a bit nicer and the sides are slanted.

I really wish Lego could redesign their droid bodies. They look good when stagnet, but they're so flimsy. I long for a more stable droid figure.

I love this set. You can easily modify it to look more accurate to the real design if you can live with having less space in the tank.

Mini figs are decent but the previous build was better. Maybe turning the x wing canopy peice around might give a better shape to the front

Im surprised that with the way you handled the set that the cannons stayed in position. The cannons on mine drop forward all on their own.

Republic Flaw Tank. The hollow stud - I addressed that before: Lego bla bla so much about their QA. How comes, the antenna plop on top so lazy loose in the final product?? And (TX-130) pilot/driver without a control device - how comes to this nonsense??? Beware, these requirements could perform without extra effort, the set's 262 limit stick (just drop 3 spare parts).

Compared to how much I liked the last version of this vehicle (2016?), this one's pretty bad. Too large, insufficiently accurate. It's definitely a figure pack for more detail-oriented collectors.

LEGO needs to bite the bullet and dual mold those white legs with purple rather than that lame little purple chunk that cuts off. other than that tho, very nice figs (which is all i really care about from the set)
