They are re-making each classic set into a smaller version while also increasing the prices. This is the ultimate profit scheme for LEGO, and it’s so tiring.

I honestly wouldn't complain as much about the price increases if the designs were always getting better, but it's just downgrades left and right. The minifigs aren't bad here, but nothing really feels too special either.

Genuinely think we're getting to the stage where Lego Star Wars outside of battle packs is becoming unaffordable for the general consumer. The whole point of a starfighter as a kid is that you're buying another one to have a battle with, 45 dollars for a tiny jedi interceptor and 70 for the arc-170 just makes it really unaffordable for a kid to really play with them. With these prices it feels like kids are being priced out of the entire theme, why spend 45 dollars on a tiny ship when you can buy multiple video games with longer lasting value?

Kids are becoming less interested in toys now that technology does so much for them. Rather than fight that and make toys more appealing to kids, I think Lego are trying to benefit from the growing demographic that is adult fans. They might not care that Lego Star Wars is not affordable for most kids if they make enough money from adults.
Their original IPs like Ninjago are probably still heavily kids' sales, but Star Wars is one of their oldest themes still going, so has a lot of older fans for this strategy to work.

@@Poopustheclown bruh literally the only one of these that's ever been made before was the ARC-170, FIFTEEN years ago. The Grogu one is arguable too I guess but it was a totally different scale and half of this one's build is the pram. The home one, the acclamator, and Ahsoka's interceptor are brand new and were all highly requested by the community. This is the literal worst example you could have chosen for the "lego just makes the same thing over and over again" argument

    • @KazudaXiono
      @KazudaXiono 23 години тому

I wouldn’t necessarily call this wave redundant. Most of the sets are vehicles from Star Wars which we either have never seen before in LEGO, or have not been made in 10+ years.
The last ARC-170 released in 2009, almost 16 years ago. It’s a set that has been long asked for to be remade, so I wouldn’t say it’s completely out of left-field either.
Ahsoka’s Jedi Interceptor has never been made as a set, and also includes minifigures of Ahsoka, in an outfit we haven’t seen in 10 years.
The midi-scale Acclamator is a unique set of a ship we’ve never seen before in LEGO outside of polybags.
The midi-scale Home-One is a set we also haven’t seen in a while, with it being 16 years since the Home-One playset released. However, the set did not represent the ship, but a hanger within it, plus the meeting room from the first act of ROTJ.
While the buildable Grogu is something we have seen before, and it hasn’t been too long since it retired, (about a year) it is unique in the fact where it isn’t just a statue of Grogu, as it includes the pram, and is at a completely different scale.
The 4+ N-1 Starfighter, while being released at the same time as the play-scale version, is obviously not intended as a “remake” of the set, but rather a version of the ship for much younger audiences.
While value-wise, the wave sure is questionable, it’s far from redundant. Constant remakes aren’t even unique to just Star Wars. Take themes like Harry Potter, or LEGO City for example. I don’t necessarily view remakes as a bad thing, either.

"$70 does not feel outrageous." Perhaps by the inflated standards of Lego Star Wars, but to me, it's pretty crazy for fewer than 500 pieces. I recently bought a Funwhole set (with lights) that was around the same price for over 1,800 pieces and a Pantasy set with 3,000 pieces for not much more. (In fairness, those included discounts, but since their sets are discounted or have promo codes pretty much year round, I treat those as the MSRP's.)

  • @rodrigomatos1636

These prices in general are getting absolutely ridiculous. The only set that doesn't feel completely overpriced is the grogu set, cuz at least that thing has over 1000 pieces and some pretty big ones aswell. Which makes the prices for the other sets, especially the midi-scale ones, feel even more absurd. If the grogu can be sold at a 10c/piece ratio, with big pieces, printed parts, and even a minifigure, what is the reasonable justification for the midi scale sets being so above in the PPP ratio, even though they use only very tiny pieces, don't have minifigures at all...? (It's a rhetorical question, the answer is obviously because they know they can charge these prices and keep getting away with it.) LEGO has always been expensive, as Jang says, but it just seems like their only priority, their single objective nowadays, is maximizing the corporate profit margin above everything else, with complete disregard to respecting consumers, whom, may I recall, saved them from bankruptcy in the early 2000s. Sadly, LEGO seems to have unlearned the first thing about gratitude, and it still has this market cornered, and until such a time comes when we have more healthy competition in this segment, things are only going to get worse and worse. What a shame.

It's smaller in length but wider that that set I'm pretty sure although the images they give makes it look smaller all around (with no wing opening mechanism). I dropped almost 100 bucks on a 2003 Geonosian Fighter on Bricklink a few weeks back. Complete with all parts and minifigs in fairly good condition. Pricey, because it's 20 years old and old gray, plus every figure in this set was exclusive, AND it had multiple exclusive prints and rare colors, not a single sticker.
The Geonosian Fighter had an MSRP of 20 USD when it released in 2003.
20 USD, for TWO decent sized builds, WITH printed pieces, with FOUR figures, two of whom were standard battle droids, but in a special color, and two of whom had unique molded heads AND leg printing. Oh, and one of them had wings as a cape, which were also printed.
And sure, here I am paying for 1 for the price of 4-5 of them now, but Lego doesn't make them anymore, and let's be real, I'm partly paying for nostalgia. But come on, they're actually good.
These new sets offer exactly zero of those upsides.
Gosh knows when we're gonna get any AOTC thing that isn't a gunship again, anyway.

imo the new canopy piece for the ETA-2 is great, because it captures the general eggy shape of the interceptors body much better, as unlike the piece theyve used since 2005 (?) with their first attempt at the jedi interceptor, this one isnt symmetrical front to back and is far closer to how the actual canopy looks, with a bigger slope towards the front and a rounder bum end, the price is bloody outrageous tho, charging 45 bucks for a 25-30 dollar set is ridiculous

We need a competitor brand to get ahold of some big IPs like Star Wars so they can actually take Lego down a notch. The only reason Lego is able to maintain its hold as the top building block brand despite being too expensive for most of its own customers is because they have a monopoly on all the biggest brands and IPs. If other competitors managed to get some of those big IPs then Lego would be forced to play more fair in order to not be undercut by other companies selling the same things for better value.

Disappointed on the wingtip cannons not being true to the original design and wings/ s-foils should be longer to the overall proportions. But just my two cents to throw into the comments. 😊

Crazy how people aren’t super dissatisfied with the ARC-170 at .14/piece but outrageously furious at the interceptor’s .15/piece. I know piece count isn’t everything because size/mass is also an important metric, but frankly the 170 doesn’t appear twice as large as the interceptor, I think a good amount of price went into those pilot helmets. Whereas the CW we Ahsoka is a fantastic print and getting an astromech and Anakin on top is nice

They both hit the mark and also completely missed it. It's just ridiculous what Lego expects people to pay for these tiny little sets nowadays.
