Here’s a video of why we didn’t just paint our totes black. They explain it much better than we can.
ua-cam.com/video/Mw_6FD3ccmc/v-deo.html
Makes sense..thank you.
I'd still just paint it. Makes the water too warm for him, for showers. You're not using it for showers. Other than that, I don't see a reason to not paint it. (And, hell, I like my showers really warm) Paint won't collect water between the tank and the black layer, it's pretty much windproof, and paint saves so much time and effort. I can see using a black insulating layer in colder areas, to keep the water from freezing, but neither the plastic nor the paint will help in that case.
Black paint vs black tarp no different for transferring heat, they both do.
The huge costs for that thick tarp vs paint its more for the tarp. More labor intensive for covering with a tarp.
Having "too warm of water for a shower"?= NO SUCH THING!
I don't agree with a lot of things that those people do. I have lived on a self sustaining farm most of my life. I have been off grid for a few years also.
In my opinion, you are wasting time, money, and resources.
Denise Wilson If you listened carefully. The Plastic was FREE from his brother in law. Can't get better than that. 😃
Angels Arrived yes, thank you. Tarp was FREE for us!
I noticed the Marine core flag in your video and I say to that Marine thank you for your service from a brother. I am Army 1976-1978. Thank you for your video it was very informative.
Wow I had no idea about the use of the black plastic on the tote. Never heard of that. Thanks for sharing.
That's how I wrap my Christmas presents
You guys are fantastic instructors for not only homesteading, but prepers also. Team work makes fantastic marriages. G-D Bless. Stay safe.
Thank you! 😊
I agree
Yes I would like to see more of this
Spray paint them. Place a piece of tape from top to bottom..... When you have given the tank proper drying time, paint to cure. Then remove the tape an it will give you a site glass to see the level in the tank. Most people use a flat matte black paint, choose the desert camo brown. The key is as we all know is to keep the sunlight from penetrating the plastic and growing algae. Good video!

Best diy video on UA-cam about covering a ibc tote with black plastic. You two explained every detail and along with the measurements. Thanks for a great diy and I subscribed.
Thank you Beverly so much
On the West Coast and the IBC totes are very expensive !
Great idea, good luck with it. Rain collection is great, nothing
like free water for the garden and livestock :-))
Nice job on the gift wrapping. I plan on using totes for chickens and rabbits on our homestead. Semper Fi
Thank you. Semper Fi.
Love that you have the Oklahoma flag on the wall!
💪😀
Yes please go over how you made the fitting for the outlet for the water
Hi Guys ,thanks for the information. Just something to check out . Where I work we get alot of pallet loads of fertilizer and grass seeds and alot of the time the come covered with a black pallet bag , maybe check with your feed or fertilizer suppliers or golf courses they usually get thrown out. Just something to think about 🤔 have a great day 😀 🇨🇦 Craig 👍 Oh that's an awesome hose bib/spigot setup !
Awesome thank you.
I used 6 mil. And it worked great. Love your channel. Keep it them coming..
Awesome! Thank you! 😀
Thanks!!
As an industrial Waste Treatment Operator, we often reuse chemical totes for waste water storage. We stack them three high on a level, paved surface. Some of these older recycled totes have developed UV damage from being in the sun. The tote becomes brittle over time, and we end up with "Dispo" totes. This method of yours could prevent UV damage. BTW, I have one of those Bonnie Blues flying at my home in South Carolina (our Citadel Cadets fired the first shots). Many folks do not know the multi-state history. I also fly the First National CSA. Much Respect to you Brother!
😄love it a big Christmas gift..
Looks good👍👍
Have a good evening ☃️☃️☃️
chele michele haha! Yes! 😄
Thank you!
I learned something New today. Thanks a lot for the very informative video !!!...Now if I ever give a Car for a gift I know how to wrap it ;-).Just kid'in. I will keep this info in mind and Lord willing put it to use in the near future. Thanks for doing the video and sharing this info. Y'all take care and God Bless !!!
Haha! 😄
You can add this to Jason's to do list, lol. Always enjoy your videos.
Kathy Mcleod thank you! He’s got a lot on his plate. Maybe we can help him out with his sometime if he wants.
great job i always wondered why they painted them black now i know ty for the info hugssss
tammy sarrazin it’s better to wrap them in black tarp than to paint them black.
You should help Jason do the same with his water catchment.
Sweet !!! I’ve got something kinda like that for my yard birds!!
The Corgills they work great for storing water in places you can’t otherwise get a water to.
Ya I would have to dig a ditch a pretty good ways so it’s perfect!!!!
Thanks for the info...Love and Hugs from Sapulpa
Thanks for watching! 😊
I know who I'm getting to wrap Christmas presents for me....AND, I can get a haircut at the same time....LOL. Y'all got it going on! Love watching your videos. Yes, you need to show how you made the connections for hooking up the water hose to the IBC spout! I'll be watching for that video! Y'all have a great day!!!
Kevin Davidson haha! Yep. Sawyer Ridge Farm, your one stop shop. 😄
looks good. i bet she wraps all the gifts for christmas lol We use one of these to haul water into our hunting camps water tank. They work great
Cooper Family Homestead haha! You’d be right on the gift wrapping. 😄
They’re perfect for storing water in places that might otherwise not have access to water.
@@SawyerRidgeFarm our hunting camp is 7 miles from another other than a dirt road so we rely on hauled water and generators for everything lol
They are a great idea to have, I have 2 large and a 55 gallon barrel. All catch the rain water from a gutter off the house or shed. I use them to water the gardens. Place them as high as possible to get more pressure & allow room under the nozzle to place a hose or watering can. I did install a pump to one to have enough pressure for a distant bed. Our biggest problem are mosquitoes. I found & use Pond Dunks which are made for outdoor fish ponds. They work great.
Yes, we’ve used those pond dunks as well! 👍
Jason needs to know about this if he doesnt already. God bless
yes olease go over how you made the parts where the water and spicket are. We are Missionaries in Hungary and it is hard to find out how to make everything work. Blessings and Thank you
they make covers you can buy for the totes. i plan on buying one for my tote that i just bought for rainwater catchment
Glad you know spray paint peels and is questionable when putting on plastic. Put the tote on wheels (large ones) for height more pressure, and ease of moving with a small tractor. Came over from the Crockers y’all were a blast when Jason got the haircut. Thanks for sharing your story!
Auntym thanks for coming over and checking us out. Glad you enjoy the content! 👍😀
Yes I would like to see the spigot assembly
Excellent ideas, I never even thought about algae build up. Does the water get hot in the summer?
Yes I would like to see how you do the spigot as well 👌👍
I would build a small roof over it, like a old well had and add a catchment system so you wouldn't have to fill them up with a hose.
Have you guys got a pond or a decent source of water from flowing creek pooled u are? You could use a ram pump to pump the water uphill even at 45 to 50 psi to spickets placed were totes are located no dragging a hose anymore? Just a suggestion only... Love your channel too!
Would like to see more in depth for sure
Not lying in working on water barrels and stuff here to LOL
It would be nice to know exactly how to convert it with the knob and a hose attatchment
Awesome Video. I got plenty on my Ranch. Got me a contact for these.
Thanks for sharing. I have 2 of these we use all summer. Have to drain in winter unfortunately unless we put a heater in it. I hadn't thought if that wonder if it would work?
My son has a couple of those totes.. I’ll have to show him the video.. this might be an idea he can use.. Thank you..
jerrie wyatt hope it helps him out! Thanks for watching! 👍
Do a video on using them please. I'd like to see how they work in watering action. Thank you.
Wrapping it with black plastic is a great idea, better than painting it.🇺🇸👍🇺🇸👍
Howdy folks...you have a neighbor in OK. new to homestead life. Markie Grabill is the channel name. Just thought I'd mention them.
For better pressure put a tire air valve in the top lid of the ibc take the valve core out and just use it with the cap to let air in as water goes out. Makes a great inexpensive air vent
Thank you for the tip David.
Sawyer Ridge Farm I used to do it for my water tanks on my horse trailer for summer horse shows so my horses always had water
I understand about blocking the sunlight to prevent algae and I watched the video you linked in the description box, but I think whether it's painted or wrapped, the black color is still going to heat up the water isn't it? Would it work better if you painted it black, then a coat of white paint over that to reflect the heat? Just my mind in overdrive, lol. I catch rain water in a barrel to water plants, it gets emptied pretty often so I haven't had the algae problem. Thanks for the video, I enjoy watching them. ❤️️
Good point. Besides the black plastic, I plan on growing clematis armandii on ours to use for watering our plants. The plant will hopefully help the plastic last a bit longer.
@@jerrywhidby. I looked up clematis armandii for growing around the water tank like you had mentioned. I thought it was a brilliant idea and great for summer when it gets really hot but what about winter when the leaves don't fall, would that block the sun from heating the tank...especially if you are in a cold freezing climate. For me, I am in Arkansas and we do get cold down to single digits then I would want plants that will provide shade in the summer and leaves fall off so the sun will heat the tank. Thank you.
👍👍
