Hi Friends! Just wanted to thank you for your patience and support these past few months, it has been a wild ride, and we never thought that things would go the way they have, or that the break would be so long, but we're so grateful to report that we're happier and healthier than ever. This passage changed our lives for the better and taught us so much about ourselves and one another. It feels so special to finally be able to share this ocean crossing adventure with you and we hope that you feel the magic and power of the ocean like we did while watching. We also wanted to let you know that we are not in the path of Hurricane Larry in case you were worried about us being on Bermuda during the storm season. (This video was filmed in June). We'll tell you a lot more next Sunday, but until then, hope you enjoy this hour long beast of a video that Lou edited :) Big hugs, Dana (& Lou)
Was wondering why I hadn't seen you in a while but I was busy too so didn't realize you had left land. So happy to see you and hear about your week at sea. Glad you are healthy happy and safe. Looking forward to more! ⛵ PS: I cry every time I see 🐬 or 🐳 too.
Oh my gosh you two Penelope looked so sparkling clean and dazzlingly bright against the deep blue Atlantic sea. Your crossing was a splendid adventure with fantastic footage and it was so great to get to share it. I really loved seeing all the love you poured into the passage and eachother
This channel is so wildly underrated. Just calling this a video doesn’t seem to do it justice. This is a superbly recorded documentary and I hope you get the recognition you deserve for it. All the best you legends!
I'm 2 minutes in and have to tell you, you must enter this in film festivals. Chills already. We would be so lucky to sit in a theater to experience this.
I've got it on the TV to watch big screen, it felt like it deserved the biggest screen I have so I could really experience all the colours and sounds 😍
Welcome back! I am so happy you made it safe to Bermuda. I can't wait to see where Penelope goes next. I cried many times throughout this video but hearing the person on the radio say "you did it all yourself, you should be proud of yourself" really has me sobbing. It's heart-warming and inspiring to see the kindness of strangers, especially after such a harrowing and heartening journey. Congratulations Dana and Lou, you should be so so proud of yourselves
Hi Claire, thanks so much for the beautiful comment. That's actually my favorite part of the entire video as well, the guys on Bermuda Radio are literally life-savers, so funny, so kind, just all around amazing people. We talked to them a bunch and they really were integral to getting into Bermuda safely! ---Lou
Thank you for giving us long moments of no filler music, so we could really experience the adventure you went through! The sound of the waves, noises & quiet made me feel, as an oldie, that I was back having adventures again! I cried with you!
Laurie Anne well said and not that I even realized it but the lack of filler music was exactly what made this extra special of course along with such a well deserving sweet couple.
What a remarkable and emotional vlog about your first experience crossing the sea! Dana does a wonderful job of conveying emotions and the feeling of the awesomeness of the sea. However, I could sense LOU'S QUIET STRENGTH and WISDOM that is vital. Congratulations Lou and Dana on successfully and bravely accomplishing your life altering adventure!
Wow, this really has it all: fear, desperation, excitment, joy, love... What a rollercoaster of emotions! Thanks for taking us along! I especially enjoyed those silent moments without any music, it made me feel like I was right there in the moment. I could feel the vastness of the ocean and the quietness of being so completely alone. Amazing :)
I couldn’t help thinking of both sets of parents/families, and their hearts in there throats. Happy to know you made it to the warmth & hospitality of Bermuda! Thanks for taking us with you!
Usually in documentaries, I would skip ahead to probably move to a more exciting part. But let me just tell you how captivating the 1:02:51 duration of the entire vid was without moving a second ahead. If the ocean is so beautiful through a screen, then can’t comprehend how the experience would have been for you guys. Stay blessed, stay together forever, you guys are mad for doing this❤️
Simone’s husband Paul here ! First off , we missed you guys very much ! Second , it was so worth the wait ! We watch so many sailing videos , and we hear so often how the lifestyle means your highs will be the highest and your lows will be your lowest . While I wish you guys the safest of travels and that you may always be in Neptune’s good grace ! It was so moving to see your genuine highs and lows in such a honest and moving way ., it made us feel, more comfortable with our dream and what is to come for us a first time sailing couple like yourself . Even though we are old enough to be your parents, lol 😆 Thank- you from the bottom of our hearts for being brave enough to share both the highs and the lows so genuinely on screen ! Your love and emotion on screen , makes you a true gift to the world and to the sailing community even more so ! Safe travels and may the ocean care for you always mindful of the treasure you are to this blue planets we call home. !
so many emotions out there in the ocean! thank you so much for spending your time with us and being there through all the ups and downs. it means so much to us Saige! sending all our love xx Dana
At 33:00 Dana, your comments about "how big the ocean (journey) is incomprehensible so you/we have to let it go and be in the moment" is so true of life. If we don't stay present, we miss SO MUCH! Thank you for that, I needed to be reminded❣ Lol, the bin if Cliff bars cracked me up. They are so good and pack alot in. Another amazing post. Movie material🥰🎯
Not even watched it yet, just so happy to see you guys sharing your time with us again...maybe a bit selfish, but watched all your journeys and adventures from the beginning of the van build, and have missed you both...glad to see you're safe, and looking forward to watching this update ❤ Suzy x
:):):) thank you for taking the time to write us this sweet note. really it means so much to have you here and for your love and patience as we've had the craziest summer of our lives. really hope you enjoy the ocean crossing adventure. it was a wild experience that taught us so much! big hugs xx Dana
Just beautifully done. Sailing, cruising boating so often for me is a microcosm for life and the ups and downs and navigation of it all. Many, many congratulations!
Cried with you through the whole thing...your relationship is really beautiful, I hope you keep sharing so others can see what a healthy partnership looks like. Big love!
I can’t believe you have jumped right in and done such a passage, most would have sailed your local waters for some time to really learn you boat before heading off. So well done and great to see your channel is back. A big thumbs up to you both.
I am really shocked they went 1k miles in the first passage! Now your on the rock, and it’s 1k miles back or 1k miles forward. NOT a first trip in my sailing opinion.
Gorgeous. Absolutely loved this. Thanks so much for sharing it with us! I'm an NP in the emergency department at a large hospital and the constant sickness and death from COVID all around me has been so dark and heavy. I was crying today preparing for another night shift, then I saw your video was out. This video was so inspiring and full of life. It was what I needed today. Thank you for that.
I missed this. You guys made me realize how important it is to take care of myself, and I feel so much stronger and more driven after I changed some things in my life. Thank you for everything!!
Congratulations. No one more worthy of such bliss than two true hard workers. You didn't 'get' this reward, you've earned it! May life bring you many more joys for your sweat love and tears.
I've rarely ever seen 2 people so compatible in my life. Your joy and happpiness are touching, I could almost feel it like I was there. That's absolutely wonderful. YOU're wonderful! Thanks for making and sharing this movie. I wish you all the best!
My face could not rest - literally just smiled and cried with you till the end! You guys teach us so important things! I'm glad you are safe and can't wait to watch the newer videos and see what adventures you choose next! Hugs from Hungary!
Well done! So much more to come! Cruising is something so few of us really get to experience. One of my most memorable wow moments was force 8 in the Med and watching the sun rise through the crests of waves and seeing dolphins swimming above me. Having a life partner who loves to sail with you is a blessing. Fair winds.
@@WildWeRoam adventure yes but delightful too. I am sure you will learn all you need to know but may I offer a few things to consider? Watches- you don’t need to do 3 on 3 off. Follow your natural bio rythyms and measure your relative crew strengths. My partner was a night person and the experienced sailor and navigator. So he would sleep at 1-2 in the morning. I would then take that shift which was easier as the light starts coming up by around 3:30am. About 7 I would do my wash up on deck while on watch then at 8 I would start coffee and breakfast I’d sleep then We’d take positions log and he would watch until the noon sight (this was early GPS so we were shooting the sun ) I would make a small lunch and go back to sleep for a short while. Then dinner and sleep for me So we both ended up with about 6 straght hours once a day and when not doing boat work and chores and sailing we rested in bunk. Middle bunk in the boat is most comfy for most sea states. Conserve your strength at sea and premake meals and keep a group of easy to prepare foods together so even if the weather is bouncy you can make something hot. You did an awesome job and should be very proud. Fair winds.
I love that you shared the ups and downs, the bliss, the fear, the exhaustion, are all a part of sailing. The intense emotionality of your arrival took me right back to my first ocean crossing, it almost seems miraculous to make it to a little speck of land, and yes, the lovely smell of the land ......thanks for keeping it real !
ahhh hope you enjoy it Sophia!!! it's definitely a big adventure and took a lot out of us, but also the most incredible thing we've ever done :) sending big hugs your way xxx Dana
Wonderful to see you again, and a hearty congratulations on your achievement. There’s something about an Atlantic crossing. Did it myself almost 60 years ago, though in a slightly larger vessel (Queen Mary), but the wildlife and the sky were mind-boggling still. How brave of you to trust each other and Penelope to make it. Looking forward to the next episode.
Thank you SO MUCH!!! So nice to finally see you two again. Dana, you are just cutest person (female!) and I want to give you a BIG HUG! You are a wonderful couple. It is so refreshing to see that. I've watched MANY crossing vids from many boats. This first one from you (there will be MANY MORE!) was one of the best that I've seen. So REAL!!! No script, no pretend reality, no film crew and backup crew off to the side somewhere, just REAL people doing REAL things! The BEST! And thanks for the tears, Dana, also real! I loved how the silent sailing parts allowed me to slip into a little "groove" and pretty much believe that I was there too. Do more of those on your next crossing please. Now, enjoy Bermuda and give us a taste of that place! I think that you are the first channel that I have seen at Bermuda. The other ones are in the Bahamas... and then north to Maine, or east to Azores... or south to wherever. I'm looking forward to something different. Thank you again.
I follow you on the marine traffic and noticed you are dry docked. I hope its nothing major because im looking forward to new destinations and adventures! I'm glad your back and have missed your content!
this was incredible, so proud of you guys! watching your journey from the plant based traveller days to this achievement is amazing! it only seems like yesterday you guys spoke about sailing the world being a dream of yours, so happy you’ve been able to achieve it 🙏
So happy I can watch your weekly videos again, welcome back! What you've accomplished is truly incredible. Not just this sailing journey, but also that you've been able to make this dream come true, with so much hard work and it has been a pleasure following your adventures and journey that brought you to where you are today!
Good to see you back on form! Did you keep a paper chart and hourly plot on your passage, in case of electronics going down? Some would even do some dead reckoning periods and compare to the plotter / GPS to sharpen the skills! So many comments here, and can't read them all, but thought it worth mentioning for sleeping on passage a sea berth would make sense to sleep easier... as near to the centre of movement on the boat. Usually this is near the centre of the boat, aft of the main mast. The boat moves a lot less there, making it easier to sleep. Keep up the good work!
Kind of removed that capability with the table remodel. When I look at Dan and Kika in Sailing Uma that's what they do. Also keeps you closer to the action...
@@enmodo the destruction of that nav station for the standing table was the first time I felt frustration with Dana and Lou. They got a lot of comments from experienced sailors who told them not to do that but they destroyed it anyway. I’m sure using that table with the boat heeling became an apparent poor decision.
I watched this video on Sunday and I have not been able to stop thinking about it since then. While watching I went through all of the emotions with you but even in the moments that brought me to tears I was still filled with complete joy and inspiration from you two. This video truly embodies that to experience life at it’s absolute fullest, all the way out to it’s furthest corners, is to experience ALL of the emotions. Dana & Lou, thank you so much for sharing with us your life and the journeys that it takes you on, for being one h*** of an inspiration that life is about living and that doing anything simply means that you take the actions to do it. Thank you for being vulnerable and showing even the hard parts and kudos to the both of you for being such beautiful and eloquent documenters. Big hugs to the two of you.
Wow, I loved this video so much. My boyfriend and I are living in a van currently and are dreaming of owning a sailboat and do crossings like this. Your channel inspires me so much! I wish you the most amazing trips in the upcoming years
Amazing how you guys learnt how to sail from scratch and are now tackling the great oceans of the world. You have a lot of courage but are obviously also problem solvers and very resourceful. It will be fascinating to follow your journey around the world.
I went through so many emotions just watching this so I can't imagine what you went through. So happy and proud of you two. You are awesome! Thank you for sharing your experiences, it was worth the wait. ❤😎
I came across your channel a few days ago & watched your episode of the 1st sail you did & then this vid popped up on my feed today. I am only 4 min in & I had to tell you that the emotion I felt when you are about to depart & you put your heads together with a silent embrace of what you are about to embark on, overwhelmed me to point I almost shed a tear. It touched me deeply so I can’t wait to watch the rest. I have been dreaming for a few months now about sailing around the world with my Wife & 2 kids as I have a deep love for the ocean from spending most of my life on or in the ocean. I am going to go back & watch your other vids leading up to this one. You have inspired me 🙌🙏
I don't normally comment on videos but so happy to see you back hope you had a somewhat restful break away. Amazing to see such a pivotal period and moments of your life. You will no doubt make memories of a lifetime on your sailing adventures and grow so much as people 💖
Oh my.. what a video. We cannot imagine the feeling you had when you saw land.. I mean, we can only guess thanks to yours reactions, and by the way, thank you for taking time to film those moments. I know that is your job now but your sharing a part of your life, of your journey, and we are very grateful to witness it. From a french girl that you make dream
Oh my goodness, I cannot believe you sailed to Bermuda! I am so proud of you but at the same time so glad I didn't know to be honest 😄 I've been teary the whole video. Just to see you two on this journey makes me so emotional. You are so brave and authentic, full of wonder. And such beautiful footage!!! So many camera angles wow, and all of that during your first exciting ocean crossing. It was so amazing when you saw the dolphins for the first time. I could feel your emotions because I have been so lucky to have experienced such moment. Same respons here 😮🥲 Hard to see you've been so scared, but in a way it is good that you've experienced how things can be out there, how it feels and what your respons is when tired. You are such a good team and boy what a growth spurt. Not only you but Penelope has done a good job as well! I love the cute little red Wild We Roam flag. 😀 Much love and thanks so much for this video! 💜💙💚💛🧡❤️🤗😘
What a trip!! So many emotions, ups and downs. I knew you would make it though. Then I saw the Bermuda long tail and was so excited for you, you were basically there. Welcome to my home land!! Enjoy our little paradise and make more precious memories. Have missed you guys and are so glad your back!!😘
Thanks so much Deborah! The longtails actually came out to the boat days before we made it, much further out then they are supposedly normally seen at, but maybe that's just cause Penelope is so slow ; ) ---Lou
@@WildWeRoam they were coming to greet you. Lol I’m so proud of you guys and so excited for you. Enjoy and thank you for bringing us along. Really enjoyed the long video.
Oh I’m just so proud of you both! Ody would be proud of you too. Thank you for sharing this epic first voyage with us, can’t wait for more. Lots of love from New Zealand xx
love your honesty with the way you express your emotions. You help so many people going through difficult situations.....not necessarily sailing. THANK YOU SO MUCH. You are amazing!
Just watching this, it becomes very evident that nothing can truly capture the experience but the experience itself. Congratulations on this journey you’ve embarked. You are living life best!
Absolutely amazing! Y’all do such a good job narrating, filming, editing, and inspiring us! I just became a Patron and am so excited to see what the future has in store for you!
You guys are such an inspiration! Loved this so much I don't even have words! I think I need to go read your book again for the 3rd time. Every time I consume your content I am re-inspired to push past my fear and get out there. Thank you!
oh gosh you have me tearing up thank you so much for taking the time to leave this comment and to spend your time with us. the last few weeks i've started to feel that urge to start writing again and i'm like wait is there another live creatively inside me?? i thought that i wouldnt want to write again for SO LONG but somehow it feels like another big project needs to be started!!! sending all our love and thank you again for your support. it fuels our creativity more than you know! xxx Dana
My goodness it is such a rare treat to see someone (YOU Dana!) who really appreciates the magical beauty around her. This is no dry run at life, we are here for a tiny flash, and then back into eternal nothingness, so to see those dolphins with the eyes of a lovely, open person was just fabulous. I share your love of beautiful and magical things, of rare sights and extraordinary experiences. It puts me in mind of my own soaring delight at visiting the ruins of Italy's Pompeii, Herculaneum and Ephesus in Turkey, or the unabashed thrill with which I greet springtime each year, or in the Middle East the incredible 10,000 year old rotating 5" bore holes that can only have been done by a rotating, diamond-tipped bore drill; and then there is the colossal slicing of 100 ton granite blocks (the hardest stone there is, size of a double-wide park home) so accurately that when stacked brick-wise the joint is so perfect that a sheet of paper can't be slid into the joints - and nobody can explain how this was done well in excess of 10,000 years ago, maybe 20,000 or more, by what seems to be 20' diameter diamond-tipped electric circular saws (see archaeologist UnchartedX's UA-cam channel) - something which appears to have been done by off-world intelligence, ie, not from planet Earth. Dear Dana and Lou, long may you wonder at the extraordinary splendour of our world, and bring us your infectious joy at these wonders unfurling before you. Thank you, Dave, UK.
You two are amazing humans, truly living your dreams. You created this wonderful film documenting your journey and I am so grateful you shared it, inviting me into your world. I teared up every time Dana did. And your relationship is so heartwarming... Basically, I just love you guys haha! I am so relieved you are safe and well having accomplished such a voyage. Truly inspiring. Fair winds for the future!
I'm so inspired by your relationship, and by your courage and support of each other. Thanks for letting others see into your life. This is truly an amazing thing you've done. My husband and I and two little boys are homesteading in the high desert of Idaho. It's a far cry from sailing to Bermuda, but it's been a huge adventure and jumping off point for us to move into our 12x12 shack and build a log cabin before winter, without running water or electricity. Thanks for the inspiration to keep loving and supporting each other in our adventure. I can get tunnel vision, and think of only my hardships and my difficulties and forget how important it is for us to stay as a team through it all. It's just so imperative for a marraige. I love you guys and I'm so glad your doing well! -Sarah
I'm sitting in my office in Akron, Oh on a Sunday morning and happened across this video. I watched the entire film and really enjoyed it. You are a very special and lucky couple. I had a smile on my face the whole time (except when you guys were scared one night). Congrats on your many adventures and especially this one! This was a true pleasure to spend an hour with you today.
We have been so worried about u guys!! So glad to see you are so happy and doing so well. Congratulations on ur adventures. Look like so much fun (work aside)
Took a couple days to block out an hour but it was worth it times 1000! What I enjoyed most was that you guys didn’t film a sailing movie/video/vlog but instead shot a film about life. The ups, downs, thrills, fear, jubilation, sadness, and most of all the affection you have for one another. Dana, Lou, this is a masterpiece, both the film you produced but also how you show love for each other, nature, what we can and can’t control. Bravo!
Thanks! This was filmed in early June, supposedly the calmest time to sail to Bermuda, but I'm not sure with climate change that reliable ocean weather will ever be what it was. --Lou
aw thank you so much Eve :) we're so thrilled to be back here making videos again. It's been a wild summer but so happy we get to share this adventure with you xxx Dana
Dana and Lou nothing is impossible to both of you , you can survived what ever comes on you’re way, good to see that you made it to Bermuda and we’re happy again to see you back in action. Be safe and will wait for more vloggings to watch. Love you guys, more power to you.
Nothing has ever excited me as much as when i saw your new video was over 1 hour long. Been here from the very start. Will be here till the very end. Greetings from a new boaty, thanks to people like yous
It’s so incredible to see you guys living your lives so fully and open heartedly! As a young person trying to find their way, both of you have been an incredible inspiration to me for so many years. This video just shows me the possibilities of how I could feel in this life. I’m so grateful to have a glance into your beautiful lives! Thank you for sharing 😍
ahhh melody!! thank you for your patience!!! so so thrilled to be sharing this video with you today :) hope you enjoyed all the ups and downs. ocean sailing is quite the adventure! xxx Dana
I'm so happy you guys are back. I watch you every week. That was a really intense episode. You are both so inspirational and fearless! It gives me confidence in my life. If you can learn how to sail, do up a boat and cross the Atlantic in it then I can definitely get through my day. So looking forward to seeing more of you again XxX
By far, the best video ever, I'm so so happy that I subscribed 2+ years ago. My eyes were filled so many times, your smiles, your life enthusiasms expressed. Will forever thank you for sharing this experience.
Always trust your boat. That is a normal passage. You will experience tuffer. But you will come through. And always work with the elements. Don't fight them. Your emotions make you feel alive. By the way I no you were always safe because you did the prep.
There is no “always safe” at sea. That’s the reality. Also, I don’t know who (if anyone) needs to hear this but - just because someone says they’re going to circumnavigate the Earth doesn’t mean they have to ultimately circumnavigate the Earth. I said what I said. Experiences often take us to unexpected places and new turns.
Wow, I'm speechless! I thought I'd just watch 5 mins as I was ready to sleep after a long shift in the ER but couldn't stop myself watching the whole video. I was crying with you when you saw the dolphins🐬 and again when you told us about your terrifying 3 days / nights and yet again when you eventually saw land. Thanks for sharing your amazing adventure with us. You are beyond brave. Please stay safe. Much love from a kindred spirit in England 🇬🇧 🌱 🐾 xxx
Thousands of sailors have sailed to Bermuda, it is only a little further than 600 miles from Mass (Marion Bermuda Race odd years, Newport to Bermuda Even years) Fewer people have sailed AROUND the world than climbed Mt Everest but many more have gone to Bermuda. its nickname is the gas station because anyone sailing to the Caribbean stops to top off.
Well that was a bit of an adventure. A week on the water and you got to experience the calms and the swells and get a taste of what sailing is all about. Nothing is so humbling as being out on the ocean with nothing but the sky and the sea as your background. You really should keep a sextant handy just in case your GPS gear really does go south you never know if you might need it. But oh yes.. the squeals of delight at the dolphins to the tears of relief at a tough night in some high seas. I think once you have weathered your first storm you really will be christened as serous sailors I am glad it all went so well and happy you made it to the Bermuda beaches. Thanks once again for sharing. Each time I see how far you come it makes me smile and think of how much more you will see and do. Take care Dana, Lou. It is good to be wild at heart but better yet you share those adventures with us.
I have loved and followed this channel for a really long time and I am so happy that you guys are living your dream, but I'm gonna have to pass on your further journey. Congratulations and best of luck to you both!!
I just found your site. What an amazing journey this was to watch. I was captivated the whole time. You are brave and truly inspiring . Thank you for sharing your experience of a life time.
thank you Omar!!!! So grateful to have your support in our lives :) feels really special to share this adventure with you finally. hope it was worth the wait! xx Dana
Check! Well done! Somehow I found you, post van life, as new sailors. I joined in time to see you start your sailing adventure, and I came to sail. I am a sailor who has not seen the ocean since COVID, and. I yearn for it. Thank you for taking me for the ride I so adore. It is magic out there! There is an expression, “paying your dues….” That comes to mind. You have to balance your account with Neptune; you have to feel a little pain for privilege of the incredible high that the ocean offers. I look forward to your continuing sailing ! And thanks for the high!
I’m not clear about what happened during the crossing. The jib sail stay broke or the sail ripped? I’d read on a previous comment from the last vid uploaded which has been taken down that you guys did a mayday call on this crossing. Why remove this last vlog? I might suppose because of the amount of negativity it generated from subscribers who didn’t understand several months of no news. I can understand no editing because of a broken laptop but just uploading from Instagram once a month would have calmed many who were truly worried about the crossing. I’ve been a patreon at times and a loyal subscriber buying both inktober zine and living creatively. I hope your next content will be as sincere and heartfelt as those. I didn’t feel you were ready for this longer passage and taking an experienced crew hand would have been helpful. You lived through this adventure and I will be interested in seeing your thought processing and how the channel will continue. I know you love the ocean and believe this adventure will continue. In five years maybe you will be sailing like Uma in Norwegian winters.
Love Dan and Kika, their transatlantic passage should be a lesson on what to expect even crossing in a good time of year. Shit gets scary real fast in a boat, so do wind loads and how fast things break. Actual offshore sailing experience in sucky weather should really be a prerequisite. Can you imagine if Lou had gone MOB during this? Did they have and know how to use a sea anchor? Heave-to and wait? All the book reading and theoretical knowledge isn't worth an ounce of actual hours at the helm. I think if you buy insurance relevant experience and qualifications would be required to allow a covered journey like this...
@@enmodo totally agree. I’ve had very little experience sailing, bareboating in Virgin Islands long ago but enough to know how quickly things can go wrong in a second. I’d never do a passage without a competent captain and without inspection of all rigging and sails. Uma crew spent years getting used to the boat, learning to sail and fixing everything on the boat. I also enjoy watching Sam Holmes who sails a small boat with a big smile.
@@beverlyschiffler9649 Too true. For all the manic praise and relentless positivity here in the comments, I don't think some folks really get how easily this could have gone HORRIBLY wrong. Unless they vastly underplayed their actual sailing experience in alll other videos, this seemed like a massive risk. I'm a book nerd and a novice sailor and I know that somethings just can't be learned by words. You just have to do it, feel it and edge your way closer to bigger challenges. Well done to them for achieving this, but taking risks like this at sea isn't a good move. Very glad they made it though.
I was surprised that they did such a long passage as their first real experience. I would have thought they would have done a real shakedown cruise down the coast first. Have they even been hit by any squalls yet? It seemed very risky.
I'm so happy to see your beautiful faces again! Welcome back! Congratulations you two, you did it! What an amazing accomplishment! Dana, I teared up when you were talking about how frightening it was to see Lou out there in the night during rough seas, and I tried to imagine how it would feel to see my husband in the same situation. Just the idea was unimaginable. It's like seeing your heart outside of your chest, and I can't imagine how scary that must have been for you. But you guys were so strong and brave and got through it together. As odd as it is to say and feel for literal strangers, I truly do feel so proud for you both. Big accomplishments, guys! Huge! 🥂🍾
A few updates in the months would of been good, the last thing you posted was you’re setting sail and then didn’t post anything for four months. Legitimately thought you’d died at sea…
They had some serious issues, Phil, and clearly wondered at times if they would even make it out alive. It’s not easy to do something so vulnerable so publicly. They weren’t adequately prepared for that journey (no one is), and while at times they were exhilarated, they were also terrified and called out for help. They were alone in the middle of the ocean. Two tiny humans against the backdrop of the most powerful earthly force. No one came physically for them, but they received support from Bermuda Radio and they ultimately made it to Bermuda with that guidance and support. But they were exhausted - physically, mentally, emotionally- completely. Exhausted. The fact that they’ve publicized their lives doesn’t mean they don’t get to break down in private and rest - recuperate - recover. They work hard to engage and entertain their followers. But they’re also real people with real vulnerabilities. What they’ve been through is hard enough in private. Expecting them to expose themselves to public criticism and unsolicited advice - or even just expecting them to take what little energy they had left to update UA-cam subscribers isn’t fair. They’re human. They break. They heal. They’re entitled to do that in private. And now here they are. I don’t know about you, Phil, but I could never do what they’ve done. I couldn’t even think about doing it, nevermind attempt it. I’m not a risk taker. But I wish I was sometimes. And I have mad respect for those who have the fortitude to just get out there and - well - live creatively.
@@juliava605 I was expecting way more baby steps before starting such a journey. A bunch more sailing with experienced ocean sailors on board for coaching and confidence building might have helped especially in strong conditions. But oh well, at least they are alive.
Haha "crossing the Atlantic". In that case I climbed Everest, well, I went to base camp but hey :-D Also, Dana would probably be the last person I would want to be in a crisis situation with.... This is why I prefer no-nonsense channels like Sam Holmes Sailing. Good for you if you enjoy enduring videos like this, but I can´t stand this anymore.
I absolutely adore the way you guys encourage and love each other in this. It is so beautiful. (I'm getting married next year, and this made me so excited for all of the adventures Brooks and I will have:) Also, the joy in this video is incredible! haha. I loved watching you guys share the coolest adventure ever together and appreciate every second! Beautiful footage too! God is so good. Thank you so much for this. You guys are incredible. I hope you get to have more once in a lifetime adventures soon!!
We'll tell you a lot more next Sunday, but until then, hope you enjoy this hour long beast of a video that Lou edited :)
Big hugs,
Dana (& Lou)
Welcome back!!!!!!!
Welcome back, we've missed you both! Thank you for sharing your Journey!
So glad you guys are safe and more adventurous than ever!!❤
Was wondering why I hadn't seen you in a while but I was busy too so didn't realize you had left land. So happy to see you and hear about your week at sea. Glad you are healthy happy and safe. Looking forward to more! ⛵
PS: I cry every time I see 🐬 or 🐳 too.
Sorry but i call this a dumb channel... How can you decide to cross the North Atlantic with so little experience?!?
I'm 2 minutes in and have to tell you, you must enter this in film festivals. Chills already. We would be so lucky to sit in a theater to experience this.
ah that would be a dream come true!! maybe one day :) thanks so much for all your love Victoria! We hope you enjoyed the adventure xx Dana
I've got it on the TV to watch big screen, it felt like it deserved the biggest screen I have so I could really experience all the colours and sounds 😍
Agreed!!!!
@@andie83 haha I did the same
Absolutely, the filming /editing /production is exquisite (as always). The world needs your kind of stories.
A-GREED
Possibly the most life affirming film I’ve seen in many years. Tears rolling down my cheeks. Congratulations guys. 👍
Really enjoyed this video guys! Super inspiring!
Maybe in the future you guy's can join them on the boat. That would be amazing!
Amazing :)
“Strong timber does not grow with ease, the stronger the wind, the stronger the trees” 🌊🌲 loved this one guys! Look forward to having you back.
Beautiful!!
I couldn’t help thinking of both sets of parents/families, and their hearts in there throats. Happy to know you made it to the warmth & hospitality of Bermuda! Thanks for taking us with you!
you two are truly so incredible wow
Even though we are old enough to be your parents, lol 😆
Thank- you from the bottom of our hearts for being brave enough to share both the highs and the lows so genuinely on screen !
Your love and emotion on screen , makes you a true gift to the world and to the sailing community even more so !
Safe travels and may the ocean care for you always mindful of the treasure you are to this blue planets we call home. !
Yay 😍 so happy to see you guys again!
aww thank you so much!!! we're so thrilled to be creating again :) hope you enjoy the adventure xx Dana
"It smells like flowers!" Wow, just wow, you guys are amazing!
not me weeping along with dana at the end!! this was so incredible guys!! you should both be so so proud of everything you’ve accomplished!! ❤️❤️
so many emotions out there in the ocean! thank you so much for spending your time with us and being there through all the ups and downs. it means so much to us Saige! sending all our love xx Dana
At 33:00 Dana, your comments about "how big the ocean (journey) is incomprehensible so you/we have to let it go and be in the moment" is so true of life. If we don't stay present, we miss SO MUCH! Thank you for that, I needed to be reminded❣
Lol, the bin if Cliff bars cracked me up. They are so good and pack alot in.
Another amazing post. Movie material🥰🎯
Not even watched it yet, just so happy to see you guys sharing your time with us again...maybe a bit selfish, but watched all your journeys and adventures from the beginning of the van build, and have missed you both...glad to see you're safe, and looking forward to watching this update ❤
Suzy x
:):):) thank you for taking the time to write us this sweet note. really it means so much to have you here and for your love and patience as we've had the craziest summer of our lives. really hope you enjoy the ocean crossing adventure. it was a wild experience that taught us so much! big hugs xx Dana
Just beautifully done. Sailing, cruising boating so often for me is a microcosm for life and the ups and downs and navigation of it all. Many, many congratulations!
Cried with you through the whole thing...your relationship is really beautiful, I hope you keep sharing so others can see what a healthy partnership looks like. Big love!
So lovely to see how excited you are about the dolphins. Shows your take nothing for granted personality
So happy that you guys came back!
us too!!! thank you for all your patience! hope this one was worth the wait :) xx Dana
I've rarely ever seen 2 people so compatible in my life. Your joy and happpiness are touching, I could almost feel it like I was there. That's absolutely wonderful. YOU're wonderful! Thanks for making and sharing this movie. I wish you all the best!
So happy & relieved to see you two back again. I was really worried that something had happened.
Fair winds.
Thanks so much Val!!! That sounds like quite the adventure you had, force 8 is a lot of wind... --Lou
YES!! We have been waiting for this! So, so glad to see you back! Now to sit down and enjoy the best of UA-cam 💞 ⛵️
ahhh hope you enjoy it Sophia!!! it's definitely a big adventure and took a lot out of us, but also the most incredible thing we've ever done :) sending big hugs your way xxx Dana
Wow! Seeing those dolphins was MAGICAL! I would have been crying my eyes out too
Wonderful to see you again, and a hearty congratulations on your achievement.
YAY! You're back! LOL at Dana talking when she's excited...she doesn't even stop for breath.
Still possible to use the Saloon table to put a chart on, even if not ideal for full time nav :-)
Welcome back! I cried a little with you, all joy though!
Lots of love from New Zealand xx
utterly terrifying - I felt every wave with you - so many marvellous moments, so many terrifying ones - kudos to you guys xxx
love your honesty with the way you express your emotions. You help so many people going through difficult situations.....not necessarily sailing. THANK YOU SO MUCH. You are amazing!
Missed you guys sooooo much, but this was worth the wait. Congrats and sending love from Australia!!!
I am boohoo crying through this with so much happiness to see even just a snippet of your experience. So so happy for y’all!!!!
I'm only about 15min in and I've already cried twice! Thank you for taking us on this journey with you, what an amazing adventure ❤️
Dana’s reaction seeing dolphins is the purest thing EVER! Missed you a lot ❤️
-Sarah
We set up our projector and speakers for this awaited vid! So excited and happy for you, we really surely missed you both 😭😁😁😁 safe travels!!
ahh what a gorgeous viewing enviornment! We're honored! hope you enjoy the passage :) sending all our love! xx Dana
Bravo!
Glad to see your vlogs again. Not sure I would have headed for Bermuda in Hurricane season and what was basically the first trip in the boat.
Thanks! This was filmed in early June, supposedly the calmest time to sail to Bermuda, but I'm not sure with climate change that reliable ocean weather will ever be what it was. --Lou
Very nice seeing SV Penelope and you 2 having a magical time sailing. Lots of voyages can't wait!!!
Yay! I’m excited to watch! So happy to see y’all again. ❤️
aw thank you so much Eve :) we're so thrilled to be back here making videos again.
This is so incredible guys! So so happy and proud of you two!
Nothing has ever excited me as much as when i saw your new video was over 1 hour long.
Been here from the very start. Will be here till the very end.
Greetings from a new boaty, thanks to people like yous
Oh my gosh I am so pumped to watch this!!!! I’ve been missing your genuine energy!!🥰
really hope you enjoyed it Grace :) we poured a lot of love into this adventure and are so excited to share it with you! xxx Dana
OMG Guys.. I have so been waiting for this. Missed you like crazy. Big Smiles & Much love Mx
ahhh melody!! thank you for your patience!!! so so thrilled to be sharing this video with you today :) hope you enjoyed all the ups and downs. ocean sailing is quite the adventure! xxx Dana
I teared up so many times! So beautiful, thank you for sharing this incredible journey!
We missed you guys so much 😊
aww you don't know how much we missed making videos for you Jayesh!!! So grateful to be back :) xxx Dana
My favorite episode so far. You are both so brave & I appreciate how Dana is okay with being so honest & vulnerable. Loved it. Thank you for sharing.
My favorite last 5 minutes ever. You guys are awesome. Can’t wait for the next video 🌊
Thousands of sailors have sailed to Bermuda, it is only a little further than 600 miles from Mass (Marion Bermuda Race odd years, Newport to Bermuda Even years) Fewer people have sailed AROUND the world than climbed Mt Everest but many more have gone to Bermuda. its nickname is the gas station because anyone sailing to the Caribbean stops to top
off.
I think once you have weathered your first storm you really will be christened as serous sailors
I am glad it all went so well and happy you made it to the Bermuda beaches.
Congratulations and best of luck to you both!!
thank you so much for all the time you've spent with us Jamie :) Sending all our love xx Dana
Just curious, why?
I just found your site. What an amazing journey this was to watch. I was captivated the whole time. You are brave and truly inspiring . Thank you for sharing your experience of a life time.
OMG, it is a masterpiece loved every second 😍😍
thank you Omar!!!!
My sentiments exactly!
Congratulations, both. So pleased you arrived safely. Looking forward to following your future adventures.
Spent 8 years in the Coast Guard, some people just aren’t ment to go to sea,you put others at risk, glad you sold your boat
@@enmodo Agree, Simon. Preparing the vessel is one thing. Preparing to sail it in the middle of the ocean is quite another.
@@juliava605 I wouldn’t have tried without proper training. Some things require more than “book smarts”. 🙄
@@mengmania I suspect they’ve learned this one the hard way.
I see love... it is beautiful... happiness and gratitude is what it is all about. Sail the adventure...
Haha "crossing the Atlantic". In that case I climbed Everest, well, I went to base camp but hey :-D
Also, Dana would probably be the last person I would want to be in a crisis situation with....
We were sitting on the edge of our seats watching this. What an accomplishment, bravo you two.
welcome back, dana & lou! thank you for sharing this wonderful adventure with us. may you always have a safe journey out there in the ocean.
