You have saved my life. I personally was with Samsung for more than 30 minutes and they had no idea of what my question was... I believed that this software was not for stitching because it was not named as director bla bla... and then I saw your video and felt so relieved!!! I mean, its not an editor software, but I just needed the stitching for editing on premiere pro. You guys save our lives everyday... thanks for taking the time to do this!

Thanks- there are free editors for both Mac and PC.. iMovie is good for Mac, check out 360 Rumors’ channel for a good PC editor 👍
Thank you for your reply. Let me make sure I understand and that I'm being clear. I have a Mac, a2017 Gear 360, and the Mac Gear 360 software. What I'd like to do is take several videos with the Gear 360 and turn them into a UA-cam video. I'd like to be able to trim the individual videos, and merge several of those into one video for this channel. So, are you saying I can: 1) record video with the Gear 360; 2) stitch each video with the Mac Gear 360 software; and 3) edit stitched videos (trim, merge, etc.) using iMovie? If so, that's great. Follow up: how do you recommend I upload that to UA-cam? Can I just upload it as I do my other videos? Thanks in advance!

Hi! I thought only the Gear 360 ActionDirector was sewing. And as there is no Action Director for Mac, I thought there was no sewing on the Mac. But according to you Gear360 does this job of sewing the images. There was a doubt in the workflow. If connecting the camera through the USB cable is it possible to transfer the bi-circular images and after sewing in the Gear 360? Thank you!

Thanks- mobile phones sometimes reduce the quality because they don't always have as much computing power as well.. a computer. The newer the phone, the better the footage will look :)

+Daring To Jess no problemo 😎 you'll need to edit in a program like Adobe Premiere.. if you want a free editor, you'll have to use iMovie or whatever else you can find. To my knowledge though the free editors aren't as 360 friendly, so prepare for headaches. Otherwise if you're on Android, use the Collect app, as I mentioned in my longer review 👍

That's great! Problem is that I have a Samsung Gear 360 but not a compatible Samsung phone so I have to work with a computer workflow...

Am having a blast experimenting with it.I just shot some 360 views inside the USS Cobia Sub at the Manitowoc, WI Maritime Museum. Nice. Working on the editing as we speak. What great fun the camera is.So...my brother is a Phantom Drone semi-expert user and we would like to attach my 360 to his drone. He now uses his GoPro for imaging and would like to try the Gear 360. The camera attaches upside-down below the drone. How would we flip the video when editing?

hey got a idea for you. i am doing the gear 360 2017 using a gyro for horizontal, and on a long pole.angled so its angled more above then down, (important for gyro to work with pc stiching) if gear goes below horizon angle the angle agresifly shifts. having huge options with for example little planet. you wnat to try it out? basiclay gear on long pole , sorta monopod, and hold it at the end high but not vertical

No, unfortunately not. I'm using a workaround. I'm transferring all files wirelessly to my phone and then loading them onto my mac, finally I import them into fcpx to edit them using VR toolkit plugin. It works but it takes many steps and much patience. I hope that helps.

Well yeah you can just reframe it as you would any 360 photo or video
I have been struggling to edit 360 for past few weeks as I bought Adobe Premiere Pro CC... I just downloaded the software but it keeps crashing on my Mac osx.
+Cristina I my guess is you have a computer with not enough RAM, graphic card etc. 4k video takes a long time to process even on the faster machines, so if you have less than 32GB ram and a 4GB graphics card, life is going to be difficult unfortunately

Has the software for the gear 360 2016 editing on mac improved at all? I see there was an update to it on may 18th 2018 about a year after this video.
To be honest I haven’t tested it- what was the update?
I can download the videos onto my phone but cannot stitch them? States there is not enough space to stitch? I even deleted everything except a 3 second video and have 30 gigs of free space? Is there some work around?
Hey Ben, great videos, thanks a million man. I wonder if you had any trouble with the gear 360 desktop app on your macs. I cannot get it to work. Bugs and bugs, tried 2 different machines, system requirements match wht samsung describes as minimum... I install the software alright, but when I import videos, even short ones, the app runs and when it's done, the video is all glithes and weird colors - audio is good though (weird). Anything you would recommend? (re-install, tried, no good).

Hi. thanks for the video! I have a question... I shot a 9 minutes long video (on the 2017 camera), the issue I'm having is that my Mac takes ages (2 hours more or less) to stitch it with that software and the fans start spinning straight away.. is that normal?

Quick question - I'm using a Mac and want to upload a normal video to UA-cam with a small part of it opening up as a 360 video on UA-cam. Is this possible? I've edited the video using iMovie and uploaded to UA-cam but the 360 section just appears as a flat image. If I focus solely on the 360 video it works fine in UA-cam, just not when mixed with a normal video. Any advice appreciated.

Thanks... I'm an idiot... I saw the links to cameras and should have read more slowly and carefully. Do you have thoughts on if the different in resolution for the Gear 360 [2017] is substantially better than the Insta360 Nano for video? That is the one i use now? And have you been able to find out from Yi if their $399 360 Camera will come with stitching software. I know 4 is in camera, but they are being very unclear on how 5.7k video will be stitched and if they will be providing the Mac software with the $399 camera. Life In 360 I got a question! Is it possible to record in 360 and then use only 180 degrees of the video. Let me explain. I prefer to record in 360 instead of 180 ,just to get everything in the scene, BUT if i only want 180 degree i need to put the gear 360 in 180 mode . If so far i have made any sense with this . In the end i want to extract one of the camera 180 from the 360 footage and get the same result as the 180 mode. Please if this is possible do a video about it.

Knowing that I have a Mac and that the Software Samsung do not suggest that.

Thank you, I found the answer to my problem in made the soft 360° gear automatically generates the converted file when it is important to the file indicated in the preferences.
I mastered more the side photography and not too the video and not too tutorials in French to understand the technical side and having started the video in discovering the software voila that now I added the 360° video and there is a lack of the bases I think.

+Jorge Teixeira sorry but I've never used FCPX! Do you have a lot of RAM and a fast graphics card? Often those things are the solution to crashing while editing 4k footage

I just tried the app linked in the description on my macbook Pro. It intalls a program called SS_Gear360_MTP which doesn't prompt me to activate, or do much of anything really. I got a Samsung Gear 360 2017 this morning. Any help would be greatly appreciated :)

The link in the description downloads Gear360Mac_0427_signed.pkg which installs SS_Gear360_MTP app. I found a link, on the Samsung support site I think, for Gear360Mac_0615.pkg which installs the working Gear360 app as in the video.

Hello, is it possible to stitch two separate pictures from a single fish eye lens into a 360 pic? something like one pic in daytime at the same spot and other at night time and to combine them into a 360 to make a half day half night sorta picture? :)

Hello Ben. Thanks for this video. I bought the camera last week and just your video helped me a lot to install the program since the PC doesn´t work as well, but I have an issue. Once it stitches the video, it goes all bananas and makes like a glitch video and that´s all I can see. I can see both cameras when I upload the video, but once is rendered, goes glitch. Any idea why?

Also happens on Mac. But yeah, maybe that should be.
+Hugo Corona what do you mean you can see both cameras? This suggests you haven't stitched the footage.. are you sure you followed the tutorial correctly?
Yes. I followed it and once the stitch is done, always does the glitch. Maybe your theory of the hardware is right. I will try it on a more powerful to see if that´s the problem.
Great video. when I tried to download and install the software on my MacBook pro, it tells me I don't have VGA compatible to install the application. Do you know what this means?

Hey Ben, have you noticed that the Gear 360 app adds some odd warping and "breathing" to the stitching process? I have several shots on a tripod and the footage actually twists and moves in and out slightly over time. It is especially noticeable by the nadir where the tripod actually looks like it is growing and shrinking over time. All footage is shot on the Samsung Gear 360 2017 edition. AutoPano and Muvee 360 don't have this issue?
+Garrett Nantz hey Garrett, yes I have! If you watch my review of the camera I noticed this as a major issue.. it's like the stitching adjusts to subtle movement. Big mistake from Samsung. At the moment the only way to fix it is stitching manually as you suggested.
Ben, I must have been so excited when you announced in your video that there was a Mac version for Gear 360 stitching that I missed this issue you raised. Thanks for your response.
+Garrett Nantz yeah you might want to re-watch it.. I think if you keep your movement on just one side of the camera it will avoid this. But that's a lot to ask, probably too much. Another solution is stitching in Premiere with the dashwood plugin 👍
Ben, thanks for the advice. Based on my frustration with the imperfect Samsung Gear 360 app, I did find out how to make an AutoPano template for the Samsung Gear 360 2017. Be happy to share it if you would like to download and use.

So what stitcher has a more manual approach. You had another video using Premier to stitch, but the plugin is now defunct
If you want to stitch manually you’ll need to buy third party software like Mistika VR or Kolor. But why go to all that trouble when you can do it for free in a program like this, or the camera’s app?
As with most things 360, when you move to the next level, the price factor leaps too...exponentially.
I got the app but when i import my video it doesn't begin to render and work on transforming the clip. So basically the app is just a viewing station. Did I do something wrong?
+Jeff Colón in order to view previews, it needs to stitch first.. if you look for the save location I bet you'll find the stitched files 👍
Hi, what would be the best method if I only want to stitch photos and have individual photos as output. I can import all my photos in actiondirector but the only output is mp4 and I want the images.

Yes in the Smartphone app I can do it but I would like to get some software for the PC to do it :-) From the Samsung double spherical images to a normal 360 foto, any suggestions?

Hi! I'm using a 2016 gear 360 and when I try uploading my 360 photos with the software, I get a black hexagonal spot appearing in the center of my photos :( Any help?
Hmm I’ve never heard of that. Maybe try restarting the software?
Ended up downloading the software on my windows pc and transferring it over to mac afterwards for editing in photoshop :)

pls help about serial for this program. you told me/us that it's in camera or manual but all I can find is serial of the device and that is too short to enter as a serial in a gear 360 action director. I has more empty fields and serial of the 2017 cam is too short. and I got to ask why do you think is all of this about stitching, why doesn't format micro SD in NTFS and make one finished file while recording. also why are files about 1.77GB when FAT32 allows up to 4 GB. LIFE in 360 I solved it. it was some old version of software, probably for 2016 or some version of cyber links action director... I left it over night just to import videos. it's slow, although I don't have GPU. I do need gpu for faster stitching, right?

I was recording 4K, then do stiching and producing with action director. Then uploaded it to youtube. Then downloaded it from youtube. The size was 1/3 of original produced video i uploaded, so my queastion is: Is there a point of shooting 4K for youtube when UA-cam will reduce the size (or maybe they have some magical algoritham so actually is a worthwhile). And also what is yourr CPU and GPU, and thank you man so much.
doktor baki sorry man too many questions lol and I don't have time to answer, but UA-cam doesn't downscale that much.. it's clearly something else that's the issue. Look at my 4k videos to get an idea of what they should look like 👍
