As someone that never used video editing software, I had to make few things in the past weeks. Since I have the full Adobe Suite from the work, I choosed Premiere… And even if I'm used to Adobe software (I work and create a lot with Ai, Psd and LR), seriously the learning curve is way to steep. My 12yo told me about Capcut and yes, It's way more crowded regarding options but the UI gives the user the ability to make contents in MINUTES:

as someone who was looking at the price of adobe subscriptions yesterday as i mess around with my brand new video camera, thanks for this. definitely going to try some alternatives before paying adobe's overpriced cost.
Here’s the issue. If you’re a vendor for a large production house, they will require an Adobe workflow end to end. So even if you can develop an identically efficient workflow for yourself in Davanci and cap cut, I am expected to be able to be handed off, and hand off premiere, after effects, photoshop, and audition or illustrator files. Now if there were an effective XML workflow to link the two, that would make it more feasible for more pro editors to make the switch. I hate premieres quirks, but I’m locked into it.
@@greganth1956 I didn’t say me. I’m actually thinking there’s other video editors in the world besides me who may not have the option to get out of the premiere eco system. News flash, I don’t know the conclusion of the video before clicking.
Great video. As an end user it makes sense to view a product such as Adobe Premier in terms of features and performance. I suspect that the people with the power in Adobe simply view it as an asset. It's a product near the end of its life cycle and their responsibility is to maximise the return on investment before they finally stop supporting it...or replace it. I see the same sales model with Autodesk products such as Maya and AutoCAD. It will be interesting to see how AI changes programming and software development over the next decade.
Switched over to Davinci Resolve and enjoy it much more over Premiere Pro. Premiere Pro would often slow to a crawl especially with some transitions or effects even on my 4090/7950x3d PC which is insane, lol.
I never upgraded Premiere after CS5. I refuse to pay one more monthly bill. I am slowly transitioning over to Resolve. I'll keep Adobe stuff around for that rare occasion that I need to author for DVD or Blu-ray. But beyond the Resolve will be my go-to.
I really appreciate your video. I am a PP user but not just PP user I have the entire Adobe Suite. This is software I understand and that works, but I need to keep up with what other software is doing.
But also the TV/Film industry work 99% in Avid and then a lot of TV industry use Adobe. That's the way it is. Having worked for 8 years in TV and witnessed the lack of development in the post-production side of the industry, it's not going to change anytime soon. Archives upon archives of shows and films are all Avid projects. The industry isn't going to go down the Resolve route as it's NLE.
Glad to see this video. I felt your honesty. Thank you! CapCut and DaVinci -- free unless you want the Pro stuff in CC and even then it's STILL cheaper than PP. Now if I could find a great alternative to Photoshop.....that's not Gimp, I'd be in heaven. Adobe takes enough of my money, thank you very much.
Hi Ben. Great stuff. If you haven't already, would you consider commenting/doing a video on how DaVinci and CapCut behave with Insta360 video editing? I'm still finding it easier to keyframe in Insta360 Studio, export and THEN bring the video into Premiere for more work. Surely that's too clunky and limiting for a workflow. Do DaVinci and CapCut handle the equivalents of GoPro FX Reframe plugin, etc. better? Thanks!
Hi Peter, Davinci can reframe 360 videos internally (I have lessons in my 360 Video 101 course that teach this) and CapCut can do the exact same job premiere is doing for you now (editing clips that have already been reframed in Insta360 Studio) 👍🏻
9:15 If you mean rubber band editing of a sound, then yes, you can do that in Resolve. I don't remember the name of the feature, but it's only available on the Fairlight audio page.
Ever since I got CapCut I hardly open Premiere Pro unless it’s functions like fitting audio to specific times or if I have to. I feel for Adobe as even photoshop has been replaced with other free software.
For beginners it would be nice to tag some info about what you are using to record your videos. I'm bouncing between all in one solutions but really see the ease of learning capcut...and davinci when i am ready
Ben, another BRILLIANT tutorial! I know this was simply a quick overview of Davinci, but wondering what your recommendation is for working with my Insta360 x3 footage. Should I edit the clips in the Insta360 software first, export and then move them into Davinci for assembly, special effects, titling etc? Or would you recommend pulling the raw files into Davinci, setting keyframes, etc. and doing it all in there? Thank you in advance!
If you have never edited anything before... would Capcut be a good one to use? I just want to put my travel videos together with music and transitions, for my use and for my friends to follow us on our trips. A small UA-cam channel just for friends, not a money making one. Thanks in advance for the info!
Same thing happened in the early 2000s. Premiere was considered 'not the industry standard' and laughed at by the Avid and Final Cut users for being an amateur's tool. Now the cycle continues..
How good is CapCut for Color Grading? I want to do it all in the same program. I would really need the animatotion library and easier learning curve of CapCut. Also DaVinci seems to be very GPU hungry.
Since it's free, I'd say the best option would be to take a video you've color graded before and put it into CapCut and see if it's intuitive for you and whether you can get the same quality. CapCut works fine for me, but I'm also a beginner. Davinci wasn't intuitive for me but I've never put in the time to learn it when Capcut does what I need.
Great breakdown. I'm wondering how you choose between CC and DVR and particularly if you use both on the same projects to access unique features - in which case how? Just approaching video editing here after a long history in audio (and a dash of After Effects) - i was going to use CC for short social videos until i saw its got almost no audio features… which sent me to Resolve - don''t you find that limiting in CapCut?
The only missing link in the video editing process is the equivalent to after effects (fusion is not as flawless as AE, and motion i have mixed feelings )
Hi Ben, great software introduction. Question I have some old videos I edited in the 90s that I want to re-edit first They need to be sharpened as they are soft, What editing program has the best Ai software solution that I can refresh these videos sharpness? Thanks John
You can do it in DaVinci Resolve Studio (paid version). But Topaz Labs software is better (and more expensive). Topaz video AI goes for $299,-. DaVinci Resolve is great for denoising etc. But again, you'll need the Studio licence ($299). If you go with Topaz Labs Video AI, be sure to export in ProRes format. You will need a professional software like Resolve, to edit that video format, though. But you don't need the Studio version for that. Topaz Video AI comes with a trial option.
For 10+ 10 adobe sits on its industry saturation. They only panicked a little with the debut of newbies like Serif’s Affinity Photo, Procreate, Blender, the Apple M chips etc. Anyone recall the revolt when Lightroom subscription changes hit photographers?
Been using adobe products for 4 years. I am planning to abandon it this year, specifically at the end of September when my subscription ends. I started to learn davinci for long form video editing and short form video with capcut. I was really impressed with how these two actually work. My most tedious learning curve was replacing after effects with fusion. But I really enjoy the process. I still use the Adobe for some specific projects as I won't pay the cancelation fee for my subscription lol
Hey Ben, great video and I hadn't considered using capcut on my desktop which I'll definitely going to check out. The one thing that's going to be painful leaving behind Adobe is text-based editing. Do you know of any similar functions in the others?
I am with you. The only annoying thing at the moment: I would love to find a free alternative for DR Studio's Magic Mask... Caz I like to play with some more advanced VFX. And have you ever tryed to mask e.g. a moving cat with the pen tool (and manually retroscoped it)?? But since it s more or less a hobby for me (not earning any money with video editing), even though it s cheaper in the long run, I still cant justify the cost of the Studio Version.
Great video. A question to you, Premier pro is a memory consumption tool which makes me needed to restart the software quite regularly. How is CapCut handling the memory on your Mac?
I use Linux, so i considered Davinci, but i tried Olive first and I've been happy with it. For basic use-cases it works. The main thing that got me to try olive first is it handles almost any video format and is open source, which is great. Obviously can't compare to Davinci etc. I'm keen to try Davinci. I will definitely check out your Davinci tutorial video.
I have been using CapCut and actually enjoy it. But I do feel the pull to try something more ‘professional’ as everyone sees CapCut as a bit of a joke it seems. My question, is there any type of lens correction for CapCut to fix action camera fish eye ?
Really appreciate the video and perspective. What about (like in my case) if you’ve run a business for over 10 years using Premiere Pro and still have the need to access and open project files?
I have been using Davinci resolve for over 2 years.. but since I upgraded my computer to a 4070Ti card with 64Gb of DDR5 VRAM and a 13th Gen i9, the program just keeps crashing on renders, and, since 18.6, it crashes about every 5 min while editing. It worked fine on my 9th gen i9 with a 2080 card.. not sure what gives.. but I gotta find something else.. took me TWO days to edit a 45 min vid this week... just from constantly having to restart. Anyone else having this issue or any ideas on what I can try?
Hi I am currently finding a replacement for Adobe photoshop and Animate and I am leaning towards Krista and Opentoonz but I still have. A Premiere Pro subscription - I have never bothered with After Effects but I am wondering what f you need to make further edits of a current Premiere Pro project - does any free software read Premiere Pro files or can you export a Premiere pro project to a format readable by one of these freebies? Thanks - great video
I swapped to Capcut and produce a daily short. However Capcut has massive issues with text captions and correcting them takes up most of my editing time.
Nice video! I only keep Adobe cause All of my videos I have them edited and saved on Premiere. Is there a way you can access those files the way they are structured on a different video editor? I highly doubt it.
Nice video. While my company pays for our Adobe CC I’m wondering your thoughts for creatives who utilize Ps and Ai? I’m in and out of those programs daily and bringing assets from them. It’s nice to be able to right-click and edit in the native program with the edit being reflected in Pr. I think this is what Adobe is charging for, not a modern interface. I’ve never tried CapCut. However, DaVinci Resolve (as of August 2023) has crashed my computer just trying to open it (AMD Ryzen 5 5600x, 32GB RAM, 1TB Firecuda SSD, and AMD Radeon 6600x 8GB GDDR6 video card). That and the learning curve were why I’ve stayed away from Resolve. Suggestions?
I still use photoshop. Not sure about the performance issue, but I believe the paid DaVinci version is much better performance wise. Works great for me, even on the free version
Hello Ben, so Capcut is a cloud-editor? Wow, that´s awesome. I´ve been saving money for either a mac mini oder macbook air to edit my videos properly. My 6 year old desktop pc can´t handle 4K 4:2:2 10-bit footage. So with capcut I will be able to edit 10-bit footage on a mini PC from Beelink or Geekom? That sounds to good to be true.
This sounds a lot like the GoPro 10,11,12 story. GoPro and Adobe paved the road. But might have decided to take easy street. Allowing competitors to rise to the top.
Thanks for a great video. My question is - do you use both CapCut and Resolve? Is it a case of choosing one for a particular video you're making, or do you take files between them for performing different functions. If you had to make a choice for a particular video, which would you choose and why? Thanks!
That would be amazing. Thank you so much for the reply too. 🎉 I've been using Premiere and AE for a couple of years, and I've been using adobe for over 25 years, but I'm always happy to look at other things. There's just such a melting pot of editing apps now so it'd be great to have your breakdown of what you use, when.
Quick question: I'm using a MacBook Pro. CapCut is available in the Macbook app store. What's the difference between downloading from the App Store and the Mac desktop version? Does the Mac desktop version give more functionality than the app store download? Thank you.

I never upgraded Premiere after CS5. I refuse to pay one more monthly bill. I am slowly transitioning over to Resolve. I'll keep Adobe stuff around for that rare occasion that I need to author for DVD or Blu-ray. But beyond the Resolve will be my go-to.
You need to read Jeff Booth's, 'The Price of Tomorrow'. You have perfectly illustrated it.
Feel the same … thanks for this and I have been thinking to switch 🙏
No worries!
Thanks! Affinity Photo is the photoshop alternative you’re probably looking for 😀
@@BenClaremont Photopea could be an option, too...
Thank you!!!!
@@BenClaremont Thanks, Ben! All best.
9:15 If you mean rubber band editing of a sound, then yes, you can do that in Resolve.
I don't remember the name of the feature, but it's only available on the Fairlight audio page.
I don’t mean that. I mean remix.
I am an editor beginner and was about to take adobe pr. Thanks for the savings 😂
Ever since I got CapCut I hardly open Premiere Pro unless it’s functions like fitting audio to specific times or if I have to. I feel for Adobe as even photoshop has been replaced with other free software.
I love capcut
I am happy to see it being used by pros
What about Avid Media Composer?
What about it?
He want stour take on it I guess. I forgot about Avid. But been using Resolve for years. @@BenClaremont
Resolve, changed my life.
Nice 👍🏻
For beginners it would be nice to tag some info about what you are using to record your videos. I'm bouncing between all in one solutions but really see the ease of learning capcut...and davinci when i am ready
I went the exact same route! I have to cancel PR but Have been using Davinci which walks all over PR,
Ben, another BRILLIANT tutorial!
Hey- I’d probably reframe directly in DaVinci if I were you. I have a lesson in my 360 Video 101 course about how to do it 😀
You are the best. I'm on it. Thank you Ben!@@BenClaremont
Just bought your course and can't wait to dive in. Thank you!@@BenClaremont
@@THerd-um5tl awesome to hear that!
I’ve been a CapCut user for a while now. I love that program and I’m not even a video guy.
Nice 😀
this is a great, informative video. thanks,
If you have never edited anything before... would Capcut be a good one to use? I just want to put my travel videos together with music and transitions, for my use and for my friends to follow us on our trips. A small UA-cam channel just for friends, not a money making one. Thanks in advance for the info!
I would like to move to davinci but i do a lot of multicam and every time i tried multicam in davinci it always was a huge fail.
Why?
Maybe do a video of issue. Report it too.
Another plus is that Davinci Resolve has Fusion integrated, and crashes way less than Premiere.
I switched from FCPX to Capcut and was actually quite happy. But now that Premiere has gone totally AI, I'm wondering about the future of Capcut?
Same thing happened in the early 2000s. Premiere was considered 'not the industry standard' and laughed at by the Avid and Final Cut users for being an amateur's tool. Now the cycle continues..
Indeed it does
How good is CapCut for Color Grading? I want to do it all in the same program. I would really need the animatotion library and easier learning curve of CapCut. Also DaVinci seems to be very GPU hungry.
Since it's free, I'd say the best option would be to take a video you've color graded before and put it into CapCut and see if it's intuitive for you and whether you can get the same quality. CapCut works fine for me, but I'm also a beginner. Davinci wasn't intuitive for me but I've never put in the time to learn it when Capcut does what I need.
Excellent! Thank you,
How about preparing vector artwork and photo editing artwork?
Do you Know the best software for Movie Reactions?
Hehe, loved your video m8!
How would you compare Capcut and Shotcut?
Haven’t heard of shotcut, so can’t really compare 😅
What! A 20 yrs video editing professional has not heard of shotcut😮
19 years here... What is shortcut ?😂@@regi3.1
Thanks! The audio features of CapCut are good enough- at least for basic videos. It’s got some AI filters and allows manual keyframing etc.
The only missing link in the video editing process is the equivalent to after effects (fusion is not as flawless as AE, and motion i have mixed feelings )
Flawless? Depends on your purpose. As a compositor, Fusion is more advanced.
For motion graphics and advanced text, AE is better (easier).
Just found this - liked and shared - now if only you could included the iPad Pro versions ( CapCut is still in portrait mode on the iPad!)
Thank you.. I barely use premier and been paying $35 per month :)
No worries, might be time to switch 😀
Wow! About time. Will share this with friends. Loving cap ai teleprompter
Hey Ben, great video and I hadn't considered using capcut on my desktop which I'll definitely going to check out. The one thing that's going to be painful leaving behind Adobe is text-based editing. Do you know of any similar functions in the others?
Yes- I believe DaVinci just added it with Resolve 19 which has just been released 😀
Thanks Ben - great video, im using CC atm and i hope to more other to DR , cheers Liam
Liked and subscribed too fellow vloggers. Amazing.
I have been using VSDC for years after testing all the options at that time.
I subbed, great video, thank you!
No worries!
Great video. A question to you, Premier pro is a memory consumption tool which makes me needed to restart the software quite regularly. How is CapCut handling the memory on your Mac?
Really useful, thank you.
Have you worked with Magix Video DeLuxe?
Can you do a video on laptop or pc recommend for video editing.
I’m so glad I found this. Learning editing right now and can’t really afford adobe shit. Thanks for this!
Capcut look great... but what with privacy? It is from same company as TikTok.
Yes China based company
Have zero expectations of data security. No one seems to look into companies before downloading.
You def don’t want to give bytedance access to business files…
I have been using Davinci resolve for over 2 years.. but since I upgraded my computer to a 4070Ti card with 64Gb of DDR5 VRAM and a 13th Gen i9, the program just keeps crashing on renders, and, since 18.6, it crashes about every 5 min while editing. It worked fine on my 9th gen i9 with a 2080 card.. not sure what gives.. but I gotta find something else.. took me TWO days to edit a 45 min vid this week... just from constantly having to restart. Anyone else having this issue or any ideas on what I can try?
big mouth spitting facts 😁
Hi I am currently finding a replacement for Adobe photoshop and Animate and I am leaning towards Krista and Opentoonz but I still have. A Premiere Pro subscription - I have never bothered with After Effects but I am wondering what f you need to make further edits of a current Premiere Pro project - does any free software read Premiere Pro files or can you export a Premiere pro project to a format readable by one of these freebies? Thanks - great video
Hi, is it possible to edit 8k 360video in capcut and export it in 8k?
This. Adobe CC is expensive, but if I give it up I will lose Illustrator, Photoshop and Lightroom.
I still use photoshop. Not sure about the performance issue, but I believe the paid DaVinci version is much better performance wise. Works great for me, even on the free version
I use both, but mainly DRS, CC is good for file conversion then I go to DRS 😁
What are the privacy aspects of using Capcut? It’s from the company that does Tik Tok, right?
Hello Ben, so Capcut is a cloud-editor? Wow, that´s awesome. I´ve been saving money for either a mac mini oder macbook air to edit my videos properly. My 6 year old desktop pc can´t handle 4K 4:2:2 10-bit footage. So with capcut I will be able to edit 10-bit footage on a mini PC from Beelink or Geekom? That sounds to good to be true.
How are you exporting your video from Davinci to capcut, and exporting to youtube with high resolution?
Checking, what about Final Cut?
See the pinned comment ☝🏻
@@BenClaremont thanks 🙏🏾
This sounds a lot like the GoPro 10,11,12 story. GoPro and Adobe paved the road. But might have decided to take easy street. Allowing competitors to rise to the top.
Thanks for a great video. My question is - do you use both CapCut and Resolve? Is it a case of choosing one for a particular video you're making, or do you take files between them for performing different functions. If you had to make a choice for a particular video, which would you choose and why? Thanks!
Hey- yes I use both. But only one or the other per project. I’ll make a comparison very soon sharing my detailed thoughts 👍🏻
Thank you.
