You know you truly did a special job on an anime adaptation when the BAFTA is talking about it. I don't think I've ever seen any other manga/anime adaptation make the cut.
Can't wait for the Emmy's next.
Funny that this is the year that 2 good Western life action adaptations were made. One Piece and Drops of God.
Whats Drops of God? Was this also an anime? @@farisbosnic1786
Keeping Iñaki's hair as is was a good decision 👌I didn't even thought about the sea/ocean in the first place. That saltiness air does affect your hair quite a bit. xD
Totally agree! His curls suit him so well and add a playful look to his character! Plus I hate it when live action remakes try to do wigs that recreate the anime character’s hair. They always look so distracting and out of place 😂
It's a nice touch of practical realism. The hair is supposed to be "scruffy" and that looks different in anime/manga versus real life.
they add a bit of frizziness to nami's hair as well!
700th like
@@gracelouise3091 congrats. here's your trophy 🏆
Never expected that South Africa would be the home of anime adaptations
The Cradle of Life!
It's literally the only place lol
Becoming like New Zealand for fantasy shows.
maybe the One Piece is there?
@@bewdeyeswhitedragonThe One Piece is real?!
BAFTA is the last organization I’d expect to post a video discussing the live action One piece.
Honestly I could watch the behind the scenes making of this show for hours. You could tell everyone worked so hard on it from sets to props to outfits. Even though he wasn’t mentioned here, everything involved with the character Kuro was amazing. I wonder if the actor, the prop and costume makers had a field day working together to make him come to life.
The shoe-with-sandal-markings worked so much better on-screen than I expected it to. It's such a clever compromise.
many people criticize luffy shoes but i think for safety reason, the legendary san D als will become shoes
They did such an amazing job!!!! I can tell those people are very passionate about their job. As a long term One Piece fan, I feel so grateful to have these people in our crew! Watching the live action felt magical. Oda's world is magical. I'm so thankful. Thank you!!!! ❤❤❤❤❤
I'd really love to see an interview centered around the snail phones. How were they created, can we get a look inside of them as they are operated, how about the other unique new varieties the show added, etc. These cute things that became little eldritch horrors in the live action really made the show stand out for me as a fan!
so much more thought went into this than people realize.
also i love how Buggy's nose is true to his character where when facing forward it looks like a classic foam clown nose, but when viewed from the side it becomes clear that it's his actual nose! lol.
I can't believe BAFTA is talking about this. How amazing.
It's a pity they couldn't use Emily Rudd's natural hair. She actually looks a lot more like "adult" Nami than pre time skip Nami. Her natural hair is really beautiful and it's unbelievable similar to Nami's hair.
I have infinite respect for the people who pulled this off. You can feel how much love, passion and hardwork went into this adaptation.
Lets be honest the only difference between the time skip it the hair length and the boob size. Everything else looks the same. Besides it's only a 2 year skip she wouldn't look too different
@@PalitoSelvatico She hair is much longer which is kind of a big deal.
Considering they only had her wear a wig to hide the fact she was Nami, they could very likely just have her dye her hair for the next season
the wigs felt pretty obvious at times. For anyone else? It looked off in a lot of close up scenes. Didn't dye it only to be afraid of fans noticing seems ridiculous.
@@GodofStories It definitely looked really out of place or it was just sitting on Emily's head in a very unnatural way in some scenes.
Buggy was so great. It was done beautifully from the nose to costumes to everything.
I Had fun watching One Piece Live Action from Start to Finish, and I got to say they nailed the look of each Character especially Mihawk, Congrats to them :)
Mihawk was so amazing 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Its like he jumped right out of the anime/manga to do this
Mihawk suddenly became more magnificent irl... 😳
I am not into anime and knew nothing about one piece. After watching the entire show in two days all I’ve done is consume behind the scenes and watching videos about the anime. What a fantastic show and brilliant actor’s. I might have had a slight tear when I saw the announcement of series 2, fantastic news!! :)
I was pleasantly surprised to see so many South African supporting actors and production people in this series. A personal favourite is Celeste Loots who played Kaya so well. Great job guys. From a Joburger.
Even the dude who played Mr. 7, a well known actor in S.A.
As a curly haired Luffy cosplayer, THANK YOU for giving me a valid reason to take my wigs off :D
The amount of passion oozing out of every behind-the-scenes clip of this show is just incredible.
Everything from the perfectly casted Strawhats to the makeup and costume design, just incredible.
Amanda Ross-McDonald talks about everyone so sweetly and with such pride. It's clear she put her heart & soul into working on the live action & I'm excited to see what the character pulled from the pages in season two will look like!!
You did a tremendous job with this adaptation! Thank you, for bringing a lot of my favourite characters to life!
I feel so grateful to these people for being able to capture the feel of One Piece so masterfully. They truly are the biggest reason why this show is so good!!
So glad this team is getting attention for the amazing feat they've pulled off
Colour Walk!!!! She mentioned Colour Walk!!! Damn no wonder this live action is a big success. Everyone who was involved here respect Oda's original work to the highest degree. Kudos.
I never watched the original anime and only read a couple volumes as a kid so I'm no OP expert, but I'm absolutely enamoured with this adaptation. Could seriously watch a whole multi hour docuseries of how the cast and crew brought everything to life, costumes, set, casting, everything. Every little decision made. It's such a huge undertaking to adapt anime/manga to live action and there have been so many terrible western adaptations, but I am absolutely blown away by One Piece. You can just tell how much love and care everyone who worked on the show put into this. I can't imagine how much it means to long term fans of the series. Just phenomenal work!
oohh so that's the reason why they use wig on emily. well I hope season 2 they dont need to put any of it anymore since we already knew she's nami 😂
saw her dyed her hair orange and it looks so good
i don't think that's the only reason, some actresses nearly lost their hair because they kept having to dye it for a role
also a problem with dying hair is it might not look the same again incase there are reshoots. wigs you can just put them back on.
the costume and make up design was absolutely amazing! I really hope they can contain that level of quality for the upcoming seasons as well! And I actually didn't know that Emily and Makenyu also wore wigs that's crazy
For Emily it was SUPER OBVIOUS in many shots - for Mackenyu, they did an excellent job ahahaha I couldn't tell!
EDIT - So apparently Mackenyu did indeed dye his hair (and pierce his ear), that's why his hair looked so good ahahaha
Im hoping they wont have nami with a wig after timeskip (if we even reach that far ahead)
@@Plopi To be honest the reason they went for a wig is pretty dumb and the reason is not needed anymore as people now know she's nami so I hope for ALL future season it'll be her real hair - or at least, better wigs ahahaha (dying can be quite damaging for natural hair)
@@ProtoMarcusactually the reason still exists, yeah people may know it is her but if you see her in street with regular clothes a scarf or hat and normal hair colour it is not so blattantly eye drawing obvious.
I'm still amazed how they were able to bring pretty much majority of the main & even supporting/side characters to life so accurately as if they've just jumped out the manga/anime❤ the costume designers & make-up artists deserve all their kudos
Solid 9/10 outcome. I just don't like how clean and crisp some outfits look 👀
I see leaked behind the scenes for most characters, Buggy and Luffy had too much fun, the entire cast felt like a family. And then how each handled touching moments on shooting. I think they did not just pick actors, they found the right people to represent each. And then to get such dedicated and talented costume, make up, and cgi artists, this show was a recipe of success. Even the detail of tinting the sky with gold for a sunrise to enhance the beauty contrasted to the Merry... i can not wait but will happily wait for season 2
Props to all hardworking people behind OPLA, Thank you so much
Besides the cast is so perfect. They have a very professional team behind the scenes too ❤🎉
Excellent job! Watching the series was a treat.
What I also liked about Buggy's face paint is that his smile looks like he just smeared blood from his enemies on his face.
They did well with the rendition of Luffy's Devil fruit abilities. The next season will be another challenge for Smoker and any other devil fruit eaters.
Thankfully, Smoker (and every other Logia) can follow the pre-established filming model for Buggy. Most Logia users while in their element mode basically look like disembodied heads/parts mixed with that element- or in other words kinda like Buggy but with their element in between.
Likewise both smoke (for Smoker) and fire (for Ace) are cgi effects that have been in use for a very long time- meaning that the artists working on these effects will all have experience in it so it should look good!
I do agree that some of the devil fruits (like Robin's) will be a lot more intense to recreate. I'm also super curious how they'll do Chopper because a full-face latex mask would be very difficult+taxing on a child actor, but a main character having a full face of cgi would also be expensive and likely hard to pull off!
@@Dancingpinata- making fire and smoke cgi that follows a form is a bit tricky to get it right. i hope they can balance and light it properly to not make it look muddy. kinda nervous on what will chopper look like. looking like detective pikachu i think is the right direction but the budget and time to pull that is a big one.
@@Dancingpinata-a lot of people have been saying make Chopper a muppet and personally I think some master puppetry would be the best way to create that character in live action
@@chuckbatmangaming My only concern with the muppet route is, what if it looks unrealistic to the point people complain. Also with the amount of times Chopper transforms they’ll have to cgi him to some degree eventually. Despite being a small, bipedal reindeer he kinda has a lot of tricks to cover for the live action. Fingers crossed Oda and them will handle it accordingly.
Me and my brother joked that the show runners constantly have to replace the special effects team, because once they explain what they want, half either rage quit or kill themselves out of frustration.
4:11 share this to the people who often asking why luffy wear shoes.
I love seeing some of the more outlandish things kept in. Wouldn't be one piece without wild and goofy character designs
The casting for this show is on a level unheard of!
I'm a huge One Piece fan and watching the live action adaptation, it just felt like it fitted perfectly with the Anime and the Manga. One of my favourite characters in the whole book series is Buggy and I adore the live action adaptation! Jeff suited the character so perfectly, the way that he played him was exactly how I imagined it should have been played, slightly deranged and super narcissistic. The costuming for Buggy was absolutely gorgeous, it was colourful, bright but also very him!
I love how passionate the crew is for the show, I feel like that makes a difference!
still cant get over Nojiko and Kuina's wig, they look like cosplay in the middle of the rest of the cast with perfect hair & makeup.
You know when live action. anime is done right when BAFTA is covering the story behind.
When talent and dedication meets the results shouldn't be surprising, what an incredible job all the people involved in the series have done. I can't wait to see how they tackle the challenges on season 2 (I don't believe Netflix to be so clueless as to cancel the miracle of a show this is).
Arlong and the other fishmen absolutely knocked it out of the park. They looked realistic yet close enough to their manga counterparts to be believable. Loved them most of all!
Thankyou all for your hardwork for bringing our beloved one piece characters to life .. cg vfx costume and makeup plus many more.. i hope w the positive reviews and love opla is getting u all can pat yr self on the back! If there are more seasons hope yall will wrk equally hard and w passion esp vfx and cgi team .. bc its gnna b challenging ! Goodluck
She's like Edna : The Incredible 😅
then thats so meta because edna created superhero suits and shes doing the almost same but in real life costume
Thank you for talking to them and let us in to details they have and their passion. Great work one piece live action staff, hats off 🎉
Thank you for this Interview, BAFTA!
Good thing Buggy is a recurring character in the series. Bc I loved Live Action buggy.
It's just a shame he's more comedic relief now than a fighter.
“We made 35 hats.”
GIVE ME ONE OF THAT !
Buggy looked amazing. Reminded me so much of the real buggy
The VFX were fantastic in this show! That was my concern along with the action which also turned out great!!
Everyone in the team did a very good job. So happy with the beautiful series
season 2 is gonna be the real challenge for them, where they have to simulate lot of smoke, sand, or maybe full cgi of chopper scene
Given Oda's regrets about tiny Chopper, part of me hopes that he's just large the whole time and they just make him a guy in a practical costume.
@@FabbrizioPlays but people love chopper the way he is now, sure oda won't let their fans down tho, would he?
I never watched this show but you can tell that they actually care about the source material, all i have been hearing is good things
If only The Witcher writers were as loving towards the source material, hey maybe we would still have Henry as Geralt 🤣
Yea hopefully Netflix learnt from this but it's too late for witcher I don't think Cavill would even have any link with Netflix here on
You haven't watched it? What are you waiting for
It's engaging. Once you start watching, you'll be surprised that the episode ends already.
Many netflix shows feels draggy at times. But I guess each One Piece episode condenses several anime episodes into one. Some still lag a bit, but overall, the pacing brisks faster than the anime that it feels like time flies by unexpectedly.
@@armoredgaming2352 not everyone wants to invest 8 hours into this lol
You're missing out m8. Good adaptation.
Why does the costume designer look like a character from the One Piece manga?
i love what you did, it's amazing, it's looks real, skin, hair, vfx like building collapses etc. congratulations!, i am 2 a decades big fan even one piece still not so popular before i'm already a big fan and i can say you did a great job!!!
Wow one piece in BAFTA!
i'm just so in awe of how much work, passion & love that went into the One Piece live action. and everyone working on it is SO good at what they do. really cool to see. thank you to every single person who put their heart & soul into this project ~ it really shows! i absolutely loved season 1 and i'm looking forward to season 2 and beyond :) !
Great job on this adaptation. Really hope future seasons stay faithful.
Never expected BAFTA to be talking about a live action anme adaptation. Much less One Piece lol
I love seeing all these videos about what the different parts of the crew did to get this show. As good as it wall this behind, the scenes are amazing. And they did an amazing job. Thank you, everybody that worked on this. You guys nailed it and I can't stop watching It.❤😂❤
The passion is palpable. So happy the whole staff got really into the story of this classic manga/anime!
Listen... The VFX from the movie Jurassic Games didn't even take me out of the movie because I was enjoying it so much...
These VFX guys did an unREAL job!
i wonder if gear 5s curly hair is inspired by iniakis hair we know oda likes to tribute real people so it might be possible
Probably, since this Live Action has been in production in 3 or 4 years right?
@@Khann_2102 Yeah and Oda was massively involved with the casting and production.
I love all of the people behind this ❤
I would love to know absolutely everything they did for this show.
I mean, Luffy's hair becomes curly now
Love the effort you guys put it this masterpiece. Kudos to the team. I just wanted to take a moment to compliment the effort you put into your work. Your dedication and hard work are truly inspiring, and it's clear that you take pride in what you do. Keep up the great work!
I am an avid follower of One Piece manga
Never knew I would so much love the live adaptation too
Eagerly waiting for second season🤞
Buggy wearing a coat made from a carpet is pretty on brand...
Amazing work guys, really brought this amazing story to life!
awesome work, tysm! Amazing what you made possible. I never thought it could work out that well, but it totally blew my mind!
I love the amount of dedication that they put into this. Good job team!✨️❤️
One Piece showing Disney how to do live action correctly
And without all the Woke culture too! I'd rather a Live Action stick to the original so that when people go and watch the original they don't get confused as to why certain characters are a 180 from the originals. I heard Disney is reconsidering their Snow White casting with all the backlashing they have received so far and pushed back the release date.
@@chorlesteajones6794 There was no need for a remake to begin with
@@chorlesteajones6794one piece is quite woke too in the later part of the story, they acknowledge the existence of the other communities but they don't shove it down your face, it's quite subtle.
@@hotcoolrockerrocks I'm talking WOKE as in the loud minority that only likes when people change original creations to pander to their agendas. I know there are characters and communities that are what this minority wants but they aren't changing anything except maybe some clothing (for safety reasons during filming) just to make someone happy.
@@chorlesteajones6794 OP is pretty woke already, the crew is basically sea punks cause they’re always crashing with the establishment.
Love the amazing costumes, makeup/hair and cg work on ONE PIECE! These production masters are one major reason I can believe in this live action version as truly being ONE PIECE, even with the slight, necessary changes for live action that the series makes. So much kudos on Buggy (both his look and cg of his powers) and everything!
So glad they actually respect the actual story on the live action series!!! 😅 knowing how sometimes these writers and producers can be arrogant. As a fan of one piece since i was a kid i'm so glad they follow the actual story and bring it to life ❤
Good work you guys did a really good job with the makeup, costumes, and objects, to bring the characters to life Can’t wait to see more of your work in season two for future characters.
I'd like to see more stuff on how One Piece was made!
35 hats! Hand woven…can I have one please and Thank you 😂❤
before the show came out i wasn't too happy with the hair but now that i've seen it all, it looks great
I really liked the subtle streches during the fights as well. Very nice!
LOVE these behind the scenes vids the most!!!! so much hard work of so many different departments and individuals came together in this series that it reminds me of the passion i felt watching the bts of Lord of The Rings✨👏
Set and costume designers were probably excited that it's not another dirty pirate aesthetic lol.
Super interesting! Thank you!
Amazingly done ❤
Outstanding work.
Outstanding! 🎉
I can tell alot of work and love has gone into this. So glad that it doesnt feel flat and dead, but alive.
The amount of attention to detail and passion in this project it's impressive and amazing!
I'm 10000000% down to watch a series about making the One Piece live action that is also 8 hours long.
Please and thank you Netflix.
So cool to hear insights.
Buggys make up is wild!!! amazing jobs
buggy, mihawk, zeff, garp, arlong, kuro, coby and helmeppo, the entire strawhat crew --- the accuracy is astonishing. I can't wait for season 2 with how they will cast and do the powers of smoker, chopper, robin, crocodile!
Also, I don't mind crocodile being female because it has always been a fan theory for almost a decade now lol.
Definitely turned out better than it had any right to. I enjoyed the first season. Intrigued to see how they're going to do Chopper.
The designer reminds me of Edna from the Incredibles.
I was looking for a comment like this lol
Man, this really is a passion project.
This series is WAY MORE BETTER than the anime. Much love and respect from Trinidad and Tobago 💪🏽🇹🇹
All the touches they talk about with costuming hair and makeup these are the things thst separate them from looking like theyre cosplaying the character compared to actually looking like the character. So cool to hear about all the attention to detail here
Absolutely loved this. So disappointed when the series ended. Brilliant cast especially Monkey Luffy.
Never thought I would see One Piece on Bafta
Such a great adaptation!
This truly is the year of the One Piece.
