Sykes Pickavant Brake Spring Pliers 03701200
If you have ever done back brake shoes you will know just how bad the springs can be and they always seem to fly in your face no matter where you stand with this simple tool this can make your life so much easier and save a lot of swearing lol
I always found that the best tool for brake springs is a good quality screw driver, a thin one. I put the spring in at one end, hook the other end round the screwdriver shaft, pop the driver tip in the hole, lever it over, spring slides down the shaft and literally just drops into the hole then push it home like you did with screw driver.
thank you very much I have 5 years of having this tool and till now I know how to use it thanks for your help
Anytime mate glad my videos help
Watched your video last night because I had a brake job I needed to do on the rear of my 98 Tahoe. After watching this I got up early this morning went out and bought these pliers, best to purchase that I made in a while. Thank you!
Ed Knue thanks mate and thanks for watching hope you enjoyed it you will not regret buying that tool it's one of them things once you've got it you will use it a lot and without it it's just a lot harder
Great video. I found what works best for me is to use a pair of "needle nose" vise grips. I adjust the tension of the grips to get a tight grab on the spring and stretch it into place.
Awesome tool....similar set up on my Vauxhall Calibra......thank you for shearing this mate......!!
I hate putting on brake springs but this makes it so easy. Must get one.
retrorestore you won't regret buying them as you know Springs can be a nightmare and fly off and you lose them or that just happened to me lol
showing my lack of age but don't think I have ever changed or serviced drum brakes. Nice looking tool, those pliers look ok too 😃
Badgertronix wow I thought you would remember when there was only steam engines and drum brakes all round how was it before electricity I was always wondering haha
just had back to Lincolnshire and you'll be reacquainted with the dark ages
Badgertronix lol it could be worse I could have a VW
true, you just like looking at the back of them when they pull away 😆
Badgertronix the only reason that's ever happened to me is because I cannot see with all the black smoke coming out the back and the stupid noise they make when they change gear I have to pull over and laugh
Fantastic.
I'm just doing the rear shoes on my E60 and found nothing useful on that specific car.
I came here for a bit of generic advice and hey !! You're doing an E60's handbrake shoes !
I don't have that tool.
Dude! From here in the States we owe you a beer! Thanks for the video and best of luck!
Lol thanks mate
I believe I see that the adjuster is already screwed out at least 3/4 of an inch on the bottom, it was never screwed back in from it's removal presumably?
I find the biggest problem with BMW rear brakes is the backing plate has rusted where the hold down springs locate.
You then need to get the Welder in and try not to blow extra holes in the backing plate.
No fun fitting new backing plates with rusted drive shafts.
Looks like a handy tool.
Nice, I have a pair of these and I love them.
I managed to get my return springs back into my jeep jk with a small pry bar and needle nose pliers. I broke two pry bars from my set doing it this way. I'd say it took a good 30 mins of trial/error/cursing. This tool would have made it a 30 second job. I'm picking up this tool, or the lisle equivalent, as I have to do the other side's drum brakes next weekend.
You will not regret buying them mate
great video totally understand the camera issue many thanks dude
Great video. Just had to do this on the parking brake of a jag. Total nightmare without this genius tool.
Thanks a lot mate glad you enjoyed it glad it was helpful for you
get in there leon!!!!........av burst many a finger tryin to do that, an am the same if theres a tool to make life easier ah,ll have it, but then maybe not use again for 6 months but worth every penny spent buyin it
cheers
Willie
casperthespottydog thanks mate and thanks for watching but remember you can never have too many tools lol
Great idea I haven't seen in north america oddly enough for such a great idea .
STEVE ROB hi mate yet they will certainly make your life easier thanks for watching
Finally bought a pair of these and they are brilliant ;)
boom sorted
What are the odds... to hold the tool at the same angle as the bird dropping at 6:59 !!?? Tool has been added to my wish list! Sooorted!
Bird poop or did he scratch the paint? 😂
Was just about to head over to your channel... to check for similar shenanigans!
Thomas EXOVCDS played for and got that's just skills
One Auto, lol prove it
I've never seen a brake spring tool that had the movable plastic stop on it and what a great idea. I assume Leon that it works great in getting the springs off too. Thanks for sharing as that tool could really come in handy with any of those springs. Now, go relax and drink a sip as you deserve it :)
stuzman yes mate you can use them for taking it off as well they can save a lot of black eyes lol
Great vid mate. Will be buying one of these it’s like the air wind back tool yes you can do the job without one but how much easy does it make it. After all time is money lol
VWDiagnostics 60 you know what they say time is money not only that I hate it when they spring back in your face you will not regret buying them
Sold.. Ordering now!
One Auto, you will not regret it mate they are really handy and they are shiny haha
Ok I didn't order now I thought I'd leave it till the next day as the Amazon supplier had 15 in stock. Go back the next day.... Sold out!! That's obviously your fault, so you should send me yours 😂.
Sorry for being one of those people that asks a lot of questions but I have a ford fiesta mk6 and when I changed the brake discs and pads getting the metal clip/ spring onto the caliper once everything was reassembled. It was that difficult that it is putting me off doing the job on my car again. My sister had the ford fiesta mk7 which was a total doddle as the caliper doesn't have the spring. Would this tool work on the spring on the caliper? Also, are the handles of the pliers hard to push together because I will be doing my brake drums at some point and I noticed there is a hell of a lot of tension in the springs. I am trying to realistically work out if it I will be able to do it. Thanks in advance :)
You can ask as many questions as you want I honestly don't mind I have done video showing people how to put them clips on they are quite easy once you know a few little tricks you can do it with a simple screwdriver no these players will not work on that little clip and yes they can be a lot of tension on the strings but these are big enough so you can use two hands on them if you need to
Thanks. Clear and Concise.
thanks mate
Interesting tool, but it's only available in the UK, and it's $75 delivered to USA. I guess I'll have to find something similar to get that Bloody spring on, but thank you for the enjoyable video
CORVAIRWILD yes postage to other countries is a nightmare also Customs can cause you problems as well the world's need to sort this out
We have them here with the only dif being the rotatable plastic foot on one side, instead they have a pointed tip used more for riveted shoes intended to hold into the rivet dimple to avoid damaging the shoe, you could easily rig up a small flexible foot of some kind on the end of one of those tools and get the same result.
Looks a lot better than the usa snap on ones you got as that clearly damaged the shoes
Shane Kneeshaw yes mate but I think I was using the snap-on wrong I think they're only for taking Springs off not putting them back on where they tool from Sykes pickavant we'll take them off and also put them back on we're doing no damage to the shoes
Those tools are mostly for shoes with rivets and you place the tip into the rivet dimple in order to hold it in place and that doesn't ruin the shoe. This is a version of the same thing but it seems for rivetless shoes to prevent damaging the shoes.
This the BMW that came in for bodywork a few videos back?
8ile hi mate no this is a completely different car
Great review mate. Keep up good work. Cheers 👍👍

Woah - a 5-Series with DRUMS on the back?!
That's the parking brake... it's on the inside of the brake disc.
