  • I tried to document how I did my upper and lower control arm bushings on my Trooper because I found them to be a little tricky. I got a little impatient at some parts and wasn't very thorough filming so if anybody has any questions just ask.

I just replaced the front LCA bushings...they were hard enough. The rear wouldn't budge with a bushing press kit designed to do just this. In fact I tweaked the Chineseum M16 all-thread that came with the kit. Decided not to replace on my 97. I'm kinda glad I didn't destroy the bushing trying to get it out as I don't have a lathe handy to fix any oversize issues with the bushing! I'll get them done some day...so many more critical things to tackle on this thing. Great video, and thanks for posting!

These cars came out with a 2.8 turbo diesel in australia. Great engine!

Haha yeah I just have it at stock height. Going to check out your videos soon I already saw how nicely you painted your 4ze1. Next project I'm planning for my trooper is to put in an ARB air locker in the front.

@@nicholasbottini8731 The ARB unit is expensive, I bought an Aussie lunchbox, not much cheaper, very interested to see how your air unit works out. great I hope. Air hammer kicks those bushings out, try it when you do the rear end, if you haven't done those yet.

I haven't done either. Both differentials are open right now. I haven't bought the unit yet. I didn't know anything else was available besides ARB. My axles are the Isuzu axles. Did yours have the Dana? Every year I do an off-roading trip with my dad and my brother and I keep running into a situation where I wish I had at least one differential that locked up.

@@nicholasbottini8731 The 91 Trooper that I am doing a resto-mod on now came with open diffs. Corporate 12bolt rear and 10 bolt front. standard set up with open diffs. I have had 18, 1st gens now so I collected G80 LSD rear end from other Troopers. Looking for a G80 may be your quickest way to make an improvement. If you find one with good bearings then you could just do a swap in. 4.56 gearing is standard in Canada. Its all I ever see but some guys are able to find the 4.77 I have never needed them. with an MUA5, G80 LSD and an Aussie in font, I expect this Trooper to climb trees. I'll keep checking your channel out.👍

My gears are 4.56 as well. I'm in California so it's hard to find any trooper parts at all in junk yards around here. Do the limited slip differentials last long? Or do the clutches wear out pretty quick? I'll keep an eye on your channel too. Seems like you have a lot of experience

I have a 1989 as well with squeaky bushings. after a rainstorm it started. I thought i should be lubricating them but now i realise it froze the inner sleeve from rust.. and the squeak is the rubber bushing moving.. what puzzles me about this design is what part moves in what part? if you are tightening the bolt that holds it together you would think its squashes the two outer halves together and cinches up the inner part of the bushing. My MG same way..

I have a 93 Trooper and need to do the ball joints and cv axles. I’ll be checking the bushings also and this really visualize the process.

Gotta hand it to you Nick for having such patience deal with car maintenance, as for me... I'd rather take it to an Auto mechanics and let them deal with it because I'm lazy.... Good job Nick.

thanks mate from Australia, I'm trying to get the cv shafts out of my Jackaroo, and have to get the lower arm off to do so. pull most of the front end off to get axle out far enough to get to the circlips holding the cv shaft into diff housing.

I put them on blocks on the floor similar to the vice setup and sledge hammer them in with a piece of wood on top.

I was aiming for .002" bigger than the bore and I was measuring the bore at about 1.732" so I probably turned it down to about 1.734" or 1.735". I had to remove somewhere between .015" to .02". The smaller you turn it the easier it is to press in but I wouldn't want to risk there being any slop so I tried to leave it tight.
