Absolutely fantastic video and yes, please, more 40k videos. I for one would love to see some exploring the Dark Eldar, Orks, and Sisters of Battle in the future.
I tried reading the wiki. I think it's physically impossible. Every article links to dozens more, each one spanning 10-50 pages.. a single name can be connected to another article 20 pages long, citing dozens and dozens of events, names, places, items, each one connected to another 30 page article. I am in absolute awe at the sheer magnitude of this story. This is truly amazing.
lol, yeah its a great time killer though personally, i find the wiki a little dry. check out 1d4chan's 40k section you havent already - equally vast and detailed with luls aplenty
In a lot of ways you could compare that to some of the inner workings of the Administratum haha. A Byzantine labyrinth of documents, scribblings, papers, offices, (Some completely forgotten to have existed and never shut down regardless of whether they are needed for anything) and halls of endless Bureaucracy. P.S. There is this really cool part in the book "Faith and Fire" where Sister Miriya (Protagonist) goes to a massive Administratum archive and she explains how she has to be extremely careful with the tomes she's reading through because one smudge on the paper or missing period or letter can effectively wipe out entire solar systems, fleets or Military infrastructure among other things. It's cool as hell because it really gives you the massive scale the Imperium of Man operates under.
I am relatively new to 40k. This is an incredible crash course in the universe: well-spoken, a story-telling arc that avoids getting dry or boring, with excellent production values, and an obvious love and commitment to the material. Thank you so much!
I originally got into WH40k back in the original "Rogue Trader" rulebook days in the mid-late 1980s. The background "fluff" as what the fans call it, has always been great. The last time I actually played a tabletop WH40k game was in the early 90s with the 2nd Edition rules. I've played WH40k video games like Space Hulk on PS1, Dawn of War 1 & 2 and Chaos Gate on PC. The background story has always been fantastic. Sure there's some retarded stuff here and there, but the stories and background is in general, great.
@@warshak11 What is he wrong on? I just love the version of the story that he is telling . What a well-wrought universe. I'm sure there are contradictions in the lore though. I'd be curious to hear your version of it. Start a UA-cam Channel to clear up your understanding of the 40K universe!
The saddest part perhaps is that the Emperor ended bound to the Golden Throne, unable to really guide mankind, doing what he can to protect it (cue for the emperor protects! joke). without a mouth to speak, without hands to reach for those that need help. Witnessing from a place that he despised so much, that of a deity, as other people twisted his image, his words, and everything he once stood for. In a sense, he became the very thing he swore to destroy. The Emperor, as powerful and mighty he was, also was susceptible to make mistakes and miscalculations, for he was nothing more than a man ... and I'm now a fan of the 40K series and the channel
Well I feel like he got what he deserved. Always thought he was right, committed mass genocide and was in general a shitty parent right till the bitter end. His actions got him into the mess he is in.
again, if you doesn't larp, it becomes evident he reaped what he sow. Ideals of the immaterium will play out to their natural conclusion in the materium. He was so focused in his vision of how the world should be he ignored how it actualy is.
If the Heresy hadn't happened, the Imperium would have been dominant to the point where none of the factions in the setting could have threatened them.
Also another thing the Chaos Gods showed Horus in his vision was that his other brothers would be elevated to the heights of praise and grandeur, but he personally would be cast aside and forgotten once the Emperor was done with him. Niggling away at Horus' ego was a big factor in his downfall.
Ksgrip I wouldn't really call Warhammer 40K Sci-Fi at all. Science-Fiction is often based specifically on the ramifications of new technologies and uses them as catalysts for exploring human thought and ideas in a speculative manner. Science-Fantasy is a more accurate description, I think, because the technology of this universe sort of just... exists. The specifications of how different technologies function and were created aren't regularly brought to the fore like Sci-Fi should be doing. There's also the fact that there's a wealth of concepts within WH40K that would be more comfortably at home in a more fantasy-inspired setting. The Warp, Chaos Gods, Psykers, Human Sacrifice etc.
LoGH is great and it depicts politics and strategies quite well. But in terms of sheer scope of epicness in setting and the depth of human strife and depravity depicted, Warhammer 40k easily outclass LoGH.
Ive known about this game since i was little and had some of the figures as a kid and just randomly started watching these videos. Little did i know those little toys i used to play with had such backstory
I have never played WH40K, and I propably never will, but the lore is awesome, and paints incredible mindscapes. I am a true fan of the universe. Great videos of the lore!
@@CausticSpace as someone just now getting into table top, I would suggest Kill Team or Warcry. Requires far less models and work to get a force ready for games.
"Malc, could you take over? I need to do some business and the Wife needs her fill if you know what I mean, she won't take a break." Malcador was the only one who was endowed to take the task of the Emperor. As he took his place, he couldn't speak anymore. The Emperor turned to his sons. "Look at that man. He is no longer Malcador the Sigilite. He is Malcador the True Bro" By the time the Emperor returned from the ruckus, Malc's body crumbled to the floor as dust.
How could you not mention Ollanius Pius the humble guardsman who confronted Horus on the Vengful spirit and declared "Where I fall, ten more shall take my place! And one hundred each of them! So strike me down! I am the harbinger!" before being killed thus proving to the Emperor that his son was beyond redemption. I know its been ret conned a lot but hes an epic badass who deserved a mention, all the more impressive because he was a mere mortal facing an invincible demi god.
Flakey Jake wait a second I thought it was an imperial master: one of the emperors finest personal guard: an adeptus custode, who attacked the arch-traitor in a feat of rage and heroism
I chose to ignore the retcon as Pius was the embodiment of humanity's determination. Even in the face of inevitable defeat, we will not go quietly, and we will parish while pressing the attack.
Not to speak heresy but he seemed to have a bit more compassion before his worship Scratch what I just said, he was and is merciful and loving. All hail the Emperor of man! (He really has no real control over his sons and other leaders. Their actions are not his fault)
One of the things I wanted the most in life, was a single-player story-driven videogame trilogy where you'd play as the Emperor and key Primarchs through the major events. 1st game with the reunification wars, 2nd game the crusades and 3rd game the horus heresy. It would really sell this core lore epicness into the mainstream. People managed to make Transformers War and Fall of Cybertron, just make something close to that.
Not the Emperor, you should never get a full inside view of the emperor's mind. playing the begining as a Thunder Warrior, or an entire campaign as a Custodian would be great. Speculation on the Emperors reasoning and even some appearances but still maintain his distance and mystique, you know?
wouldn't you say that it was the Emperors love for Horus caused him to destroy his soul and that he didn't want to see his favoured son fall for Chaos once again. To me this was the way he forgave him for his action, out of his compassion and love for his child he destroyed him for his sake and the sake of the universe.
Communist Cabbage cool reasoning. When i see your name all i can think of is the cabbage guy from Avatar. "Nyet my cabbages!" Grabs hair and rips out several strands before grabbing the little bald arrowheaded fucker that did this for the umpteenth time and throwing him in the gulag.
@@ekulerudamuru Oh yeah. That lady is the real fire. Wits and strength and beauty and titties. That milf of a mom is the reason why our man, Papa Smurf himself is the one last hope for the Imperium. Edit: I forgot King Konnor. Truly Papa is blessed with great parents. Shame the other Primarchs weren't nearly as lucky as he is.
The Horus Heresy deserves a whole animated series. The build up to it, the flash of chaos of the rebellion itself, and then the long lasting aftermath is too good to just not exist on screen.
Dr. Birds yeah it sucks that he tried desperately to warn of the heresy early, but in his desperate haste he caused so much damage that nobody believed him
@@XXBASSOON1STXX The Emperor didn't order Russ to exterminate the Thousand Sons, he told him to bring Magnus to Terra for censure and punishment. Horus intercepted the orders, and said to Russ that the Emperor actually wanted the Thousand Sons destroyed, which would play into his plan of aiding Chaos.
The Emperor didnt order Magnus's death, nor did he think he was a traitor, he sent Russ to capture him so he could be judged, however, Horus convinced Russ to kill Magnus, and even then Russ tried to talk to Magnus, but traitors blocked the comunications.
Yup correct, several people have pointed this out it was an oversight which is unfortunately the trouble when putting together a project of this size, some details can slip through. I will be sure to correct it when I look at more individual videos.
Also, Anarchy isnt chaos, you've used that expression quite alot to describe chaotic behaviour, but Anarchy is not chaos, you must correct this please!
It depends how specific you want to be. Its best not to get too meta about these things. If most peoples understanding of anarchy is complete chaos which I would venture to say it is, then its fine to use it in that context. I would generally always use the word anarchy to describe a chaotic situation.
However, you are spreading misinformation when you say Anarchy is chaotic situations. People that dont know what Anarchy is, will think it is chaos after hearing you say it is.
It's crazy it all started by a uprising from a Pennsylvania Chocolate company. Heresy's Chocolate always seemed so wholesome I wouldn't expect them go against the emperor of man.
You single-handedly dragged me out of the depths depression by bringing me into the fantastical grimdark universe of the 41st Millennium. Thank you, Luetin.
If you see this in your notifications, or are just someone who related to this, and looked at the replies, just know that you are loved, and all feelings you may have are valid, but they are also temporary, and don't define who you are. I know the Emperor protects and stuff but can he see why kids love cinnamon toast crunch? Also thanks for all your hard work, this video was very much worth the wait and I can't wait to see what you put out next. (do Alpha Legion stuff)
Stinker4583 the whole Horus heresy would make a great movie series. we just need game workshop to find a director who understands who to develop the scale and darkness of the universe. would be absolutely amazing.
The real salt is that Lorgar technically won with his writing on the Imperial Truth being the holy book for the Imperial Cult and that they consider Lorgar a saint
The Emperor is a god in the warp. He preforms countless miracles daily for the imperium. He played the chaos gods to elevate him and denied them his death.
@@billtheone3467 they wanted him dead and had primarchs promise they'd deliver. The C'tans, necrons, Eldar and the old ones came to fear the warp gods. Only the Emperor challenged them. I'm starting to think that plan B was the webway, and 40k now was the plan to ensure survival with the Emperor guarding humanity from the warp.
its been a while, but i just wanted to tell you that this is by far one of the most detailed and refined lore channels and compilations i ever saw, i study all kinds of lore and love to have such a fantastic "curator" of it you are really doing the w40k lore justice man, and im saying that as someone who played the table top back in 2003 when lorevideos didnt exist yet
I wonder if, with his precognition, the Emperor foresaw Horus' betrayal and this is all part of some crazy plan of his? Like we've already seen he is fully willing to play the long game, considering he waited like 30,000 years to even reveal himself.
Nope, if anything he failed catastrophically. I think it showcases him just being a human in the end quite well. Your take sounds like that of a word bearer.
he's the OG kaos god... look at what he's made... humans are still strong enough to stay alive but can't progress. they fight each other and strengthen him through sacrifice and worship...
Dude I wish this so bad… I’ve only been a fan for about 2.5 years and only am interested in the art and lore side of things, but I really wonder if they will ever bring him back. It would be glorious. But games workshop did the lore this way so that all species are fighting equally hard and you can buy all their armies 🙄 sonsabitches.
Because if he ever comes back and stays alive… the galaxy would be unified under him and the only other thing they could do is expand into another galaxy to introduce more threats
I think I have watched this 50 times already. The narration is perfect, the music, the atmosphere... listening to this is fantastic! It has definitely made me return back to Warhammer after many years away. Thank you 🙏🏻
@@Luetin09 While i do agree your narration is great! I am sorry to say that, purely on the framing of his narrations, Occulus Imperia does beat you on that point the In-Universe framing is just pure joy to listem to. Dont get me wrong I still enjoy your stuff as well but more for the level of detail and comitment to due diligence in your sources.
I think I hit this universe at the perfect moment in its lore. I love that the Horus Heresy isn't finished. That there's multiple novel timelines, and still so much mystery in the chronology. Your academic rigor is appreciated as always.
Magnus: Hey Dad I need to speak to you. Also Magnus: Accidentally Unleashed A Psychic Assualt breaking something in the process* Emperor: takes out belt*
I have just started listening to Luetin because of my love of the PC game 'Dawn of War'. I never realised there was such lore behind these races, and Luetin's way of storytelling is excellent. I literally can't describe how excited I am at knowing I have so many hours of this ahead of me. Cheers Luetin09!!!
Here from the games too. Really helps fill in information like whatever the enemies are talking about in the games when they refer to the emperor being half dead on the throne
In darkness, I shall be light In times of doubt, I shall keep faith In throes of rage, I shall hone my craft In vengeance, I shall have no mercy In the midst of battle, I shall have no fear In the face of death, I shall have no remorse
One thing of note about the worlds the Word Bearers conquered: None of them ever rebelled, they gave their tithes promptly, and followed orders from Terra without question. The Word Bearers may have been slower than others in their conquests, but the loyalty of the worlds they left behind was absolute. Furthermore, the Emperor ordered the execution of those who wouldn't accept the Imperial Truth, so how was what the Word Bearers did in that regard any worse than what he himself was doing? Hell, the Emperor had entire civilizations wiped out solely due to their unwillingness to accept his own doctrine, and wouldn't even treat with humans who lived alongside xenos, or made use of AI. Hypocrite much? The Emperor's two biggest flaws were: A. He thought he knew what was best for humanity, despite becoming extremely detached from it due to his immortality and power, as Uriah Olathaire pointed out before being killed in the Emperor's almost fanatical purging of all religion. B. He made the same mistake as another powerful man, Otto Von Bismarck, in that he could never truly imagine a world, a galaxy, without himself in it. Once both these men were effectively removed, almost everything they accomplished crumbled shortly thereafter. Sure, Germany and the Imperium (respectively) survived, but were nowhere near as grand as they were or could have been.
Solar Prophet the emperor was only human, immortal and powerful, but only human. He made bad choices and didn’t have foresight. I think that’s what makes this so interacting.
@@beanerwiddagun3207 These videos have been wanking on about how the Emperor "had great foresight", except "when he didn't". 40k is basically a Universe where people like Hitler, Stalin, Mao, Pol Pot, Genghis Khan, Saddam Hussein, Caligula, Andrew Jackson, the Medici Popes are all considered heroes. And the Emperor fits in well with that company.
The Emperor didn't preach himself as a divine being worthy of worship. He Wanted all of humanity to believe he was just that, a man, a human. He never claimed divine providence and didn't wish to worshiped as a God. The Word Bearers believed so fervently that he was a God and would accept no other recourse. In His eyes, Religion is what destroyed human civilizations and almost brought humanity to extinction. See The Age Of Strife. He wanted to prevent this from happening again, and thus banned all religion and all worship. Leaving a secular rule.
The emperor didn't want to break the wordbearers. Followed by completely destroying their favorite city. Well done emp! Putting those powers of foresight to good use. I think the amount of huge mistakes he makes shows he really isn't some divine person. There's definitely human in there.
The emperor deciding to engage Horace, literally leaving his strong hold and traveling into the heart of the enemy, when the ultra marine reinforcements were literally right around the corner has to be the single stupidest tactical blunder I’ve ever heard of.
The titans of the traitor legion Legio Mortis had breached the fortifications of the Imperial Palace, meaning that defeat was imminent. The Emperor could not afford to lose the relics and scientific marvels contained in the Palace, including the Golden Throne and the entrance to the human webway. He could perhaps have simply defended the Palace personally, but he had no idea reinforcements were on the way, and defense is a losing position. So he went for the throat.
If he was always a tactical genius he'd be way too OP. His inability to judge correctly in terms of his sons is a realistic and historical flaw. But come on you don't think going full Alexander in this situation wouldn't have taken the biggest balls ever? And he won. It was personal. He handled it himself at grave cost but the man truly peaked in that decision. Makes guys like Thanos and Doomguy look second class.
there are lots of similarities to the clone wars in this story, with Palpatine/Vader taking the place of Lorgar/Horus and clones taking the place of the traitor marines.
nothing just a lot of parallels. I've often wondered how the Clones would get along with the Astartes Legions because in a lot of ways they are very similar but in many ways they are not.
Absolutely amazing. I've just spent 3 hours watching both of these back to back and I'll be damned if this wasn't the best movie I've seen in years. I knew very little of Warhammer 40k lore only this morning, but I'll be sure to watch more of your videos and get invested in it, absolutely fascinating. At this point, I feel like anyone wise enough to make a series or movies out of this should seek your counsel. The pacing, the way you manage to explain all of this extremely well even to someone like myself who knew very little to absolutely nothing about the universe in great detail while retaining interest is quite astonishing. Even the way you used imagery and music throughout these videos was phenomenal. A true work of art, thank you very much for taking the time to put all of this together, and I am very much looking forward to watching more of your work.
It is indeed Awesome, but this is the merest tip of the iceberg that is the 40k Universe; it only gets bigger, bolder, better; darker and far more grim!! >XD and it's all subject to the Whims of Chaos! Glory to the Warp!! Hail the Ruinous Powers!!!
Tell me about it! I've known about WH40K for decades, but only in these last two weeks have I learned about this awesome concept of "The Emperor of Mankind". What a great charcter! The Maitreya of Buddhism combined with the Second Coming of Christ, not to mention the obvious inspiration from Frank Herbert's Dune series . . . .
40k is basically a Universe where people like Hitler, Stalin, Mao, Pol Pot, Genghis Khan, Saddam Hussein, Caligula, Andrew Jackson, the Medici Popes are all considered heroes.
I think the Emperor's death is a keystone for the current state of the galaxy. If he came back in full power he'd severely weaken or even destroy chaos. This isn't supposed to be a feel good story, it's a story about the best people staying true to their cause and suffering immensely. If humanity ever prevails against Chaos I would prefer if they did it without the Emperor's power and my sacrificing something huge 😆
A lot of people get excited when they see the words ( a long time ago in a galaxy far away) but I get excited when I see (in the grim darkness of the far future, there is only war). because Warhammer 40k is the only Si-Fi universe that not only rivals star wars in its compelling story, but also absolutely overtakes buy a mile in its hugely complex and intricate world and massive scale. you make the best Warhammer lore videos on UA-cam. love the music in the background no one else does that, combined with the properly timed artwork makes the video extremely immersive and entertaining. you are a great story teller too. you definitely ended the video in a awesome way. keep up the great work cant wait to see what you do for your next video.
Star Wars is space Opera on a galactic scale. 40k is space Medieval Europe on a galactic scale. While they are "comparable" in some sense they each are in leagues of their own. This is coming from someone who is a passionate fan of both franchises. It should be noted that the Old Republic from Star Wars is actually more massive in size, scope, and population than the Imperium of Man. It's simple logic. The Republic at it's peak controlled roughly 40% of the ENTIRE GALAXY, while the Imperium controls, at most, 1 million worlds. To put that in perspective, 1 million planets is about 0.05% of ALL HABITABLE PLANETS in the Milky Way Galaxy, so if we assume that the SW and 40k galaxies are the same size, then the Republic must by necessity control over 100 million habitable worlds AT LEAST. And when you consider that each of those worlds holds at least a minimum population of several billion (those would be the agro-worlds the galactic equivalent of rural America) then it must also have quintillions of citizens. That being said, 40k is still the superior franchise when it comes to literary care. Star Wars is after all a space opera and exists to tell very old human stories in new packaging. 40k exists as a story of an entire civilization and it's never-ending struggle in a universe devoid of cosmic justice, balance, or righteousness, which immediately differentiates it from Star Wars.
STAR WARS IS GAYYYYYY NORMIE TIER GARBAGE. CORPORATE SJWs NOW OWN IT, THE NEW MOVIES SUCKED, THE JEDI ARE CREEPY AND LAME. EVEN LUKE NOW THINKS THE JEDI SUCK, MARK HAMILL REGRETS AGREEING TO THE DO THE MOVIES. EMPEROR PALPATINE WAS THE ONLY GOOD CHARACTER IN THE PREQUELS. ONLY THE ORIGINAL TRILOGY WAS ANY GOOD, NOW IT'S JUST A DEAD HORSE BEATEN OVER AND OVER FOR THE SAKE OF SOULLESS PROFITEERING OFF OF PEOPLE'S NOSTALGIA AND BAD TASTE.
Dark angles did some awesome stuff during this, sanguinius separated from the dark angles and ultramarines on their way to terra through the ruinstorm. Lion and Roboute knew that they all couldn’t go through, and that they had to distract the massive Chaos fleets they encountered, both to allow sanguinius to go through, but also to buy time for terra. Dark angels went on a tear, from one heretical homeworld to another, razing them. Even with ultimate defeat at terra, traitor legions no longer even had a home to return to. And to be fair, Lion El’Jonson’s disappearance mirrored big E’s, his second hand fell to chaos, a poetic recurrence for the First primarch to suffer the same as his father.
THe Horus heresy: When the emperor forgets to leave a memo... Emperor: "Religions have caused conflict and death over the years, therefore no more religion! No more destruction! *Proceeds to destroy worlds worshipping the emperor* ... "Only mild worship of me is allowed, not intense worship. "
@@sterasigma8734 Well said. It's comical that people interpret him as hating "religion" but do not themselves realize that their only definition of "religion" is "things I don't believe in". So really when they say "religion is bad" they mean "all traditions I don't like are bad". The Emperor's faith was in some combination of scientia (knowledge) and himself. Philosophy was clearly his weak suit.
@@erndeche1475 Of course, philosophy is his weak suit, because he doesn't want people to think too much and thus, see how deeply flawed he truly is: a bossy hypocrite. Big E's hypocrisy is highlighted in his tendency to hide everything he deems dangerous, problematic or detrimental under curtains and red tape in the name of protecting humanity. By asking people to stop asking him for reasons behind his actions and just obey, he promotes ignorance and blind obedience, which goes against his original goal of uplifting humanity. While it is understandable that he needs to keep information on the Human Webway project on a need-to-know basis, I am sure a lot of people will agree with me when I say he should have at least informed his Primarchs of how nasty and insidious the Warp is. He may not have seen them as his sons, but a bit of information would have made them fare better against Chaos. He may have been a charismatic visionary for humanity to unite behind as they reconquer the stars, but he could never be a leader who can lead humanity towards true progress. He may have done everything with humanity's best interest at heart, but he is too alien to truly understand what is best for humanity or even listen to actual humans. He was also overly confident, building a galactic empire centred around him despite being fully aware that with Chaos, he may well die while working on his great plans.
I can't even imagine how incredible this story could look, if done well, patiently, and with love, on screen. What an epic universe and what a wonderfully told explanation of the story.
I've come back to your lore videos over and over. First it was because I was curious about the lore, but after that, I just craved good storytelling. You've got something good here. I mean that. It's interesting hearing the ins and outs of the game itself, but when if comes to lore, you're one of the best. I sincerely hope you continue this series of lore videos.
@Thicc_Boi_Tone well the emperor has lead them for soo long now that humanity itself hasn't had a foot to stand on without him so I guess it was a good way for them to grow or even get destroyed by themselves until the emperor is able to return again
I’m a big optimist and with all the lore I’ve listened to and read I have hope for humanity. The idea of the series is to create this hopelessness but in reality, everyone has ups and downs. I believe that EVENTUALLY humanity will rise again and the fall and rise
I just got into Warhammer 40k lore and one of the things that I really love about this series is the immense irony of the Emperor's personal philosophy on religion & spirituality vs the reality of his central position in the state religion of his Imperium. And also the fact that if you search for any depiction of the Emperor, he is consistently portrayed as a god, the very thing he vehemently denies. It's as if it doesn't matter if you've got all the power and respect in the world. Humans will always be a superstitious and fanatical lot, and no amount of power, influence, technology, or education will ever change that, because they are integral parts of the human condition.
@@quakewhatever Future? This is the present, we live on a backwater planet, in a galaxy on the fringes of the Empire of Man's dominion. The angels from the bible? Those are space marines, God, well that's the emperor, they just haven't been back here in a while, they came and found no stc's and though our tribal civilizations pitiful, so they left. They'll be back eventually to collect their Imperial tithe once we colonize a few planets, and have the resources to make it worthwhile for them.
Important to consider that Horus was boosted by Chaos powers. And since he was so powerful to begin with, a whole lot of Chaos energy could be dumped into him without him being consumed.
It was his love for Horus that caused him to practice restraint in the fight. He could've annihilated Horus's soul right when he beamed onto the ship but didn't, because it was his son after all.
Tekdrake Meh, better produce a multi season series, to cover most of the source material. Hollywood would give us a low PG Warhammer universe, wich would be quiet bloodless but overloaded with overpayed actors for the sake of money making.
Wade Wilson I was thinking quality and effort in the scale of LotR. But it's hard to trust Hollywood with anything these days. I don't think HBO could afford the setpieces it would take to show all the cool wars, though.
Lozian It wasn't easy to condense Tolkien's huge books into movies either, you know. It's not impossible. A lot of the books are filler anyways. (Not saying they're not good.) They're not necessary to be included in a movie retelling.
And they failed. There is so much in the books that didn't make it into the films.. they should have made 9 movies. I'm not saying it's impossible, I just think 6 parts would be too little.
I have no idea why this vid got 500K less views than the first part, considering the fact that it is even more interesting and tense than already amazing part 1. Maybe you should rename it into THE HORUS HERESY to catch the attention, plus it really is about HH. In any case - an absolutely stellar job! Hands down the best narrative Warhammer 40K has ever seen!
To be honest I'd like to see anything other than space marines when I watch 40k content, I only watched this out of obligation to complete the series. Adeptus Astartes, the Inquisition, and Chaos are the three most overrated things I've seen in all of fiction. I wanna see Imperial Guard, Mechanicus, the ork Ghazghkull Thraka, or possibly anything else that's happened in the past ten thousand years.
viperblitz11 I do love "closer to ground" groups as well, but I think the "divine manichean" groups are great to cast the contrast. There was a time if hope, glory, lyricism, reaching to the sky, tragic treason, that is held with nostalgia and regret ; now we are back at the human scale of things, and how despite this the most common people can show greatness and beauty from the mud, while some flashes of lyricism appear sometimes like echoes of the past. Feels Tolkien-esque
Been thinking about this a long time, so here is my rant. I understand the Emperor's intentions in creating an atheistic, humanist society. Considering all of the horrors that he had witnessed through time, it is understandable. (I would also argue that it is a reflection of the lore/world builders, who have a vaguely antagonistic view of Western religion.) The emperor was trying to build the ultimate bulwark against chaos, a culture of unbelief, starving it of the fuel needed. However, when he eradicated belief forcefully, much like a dentist drilling a decayed tooth, he failed to fill the void with an effective substitute. Humans psychologically need to believe in SOMETHING, whether religion, philosophy, or militant veganism. It is part of connecting to the universe and a each other. The void gave the perfect fertile ground for chaos, the cult mechanicus, and the imperial cult to take form. And these cults have spiritual power...living saints, chaos sorcery, and the inexplicable operation of some mechanicus weaponry. I personally believe that had the emperor utilized religion and belief positively, bringing them together under a holistic imperial creed, much like the Brotherhood of the Mutant Chronicles universe, humanity would be both empowered and much more resistant to chaos. Who knows, there may even have been enough positive power entering the warp to generate "good" forces to resist the negative.
The problem is that this is a game lore universe, so you need narrtativum to get to the right setting and therefore people have to act out of character to archieve it.
Religion is like a desease. Weakened persons leaning towards it. Sign of something wrong. People in an advanced society with prosperity and well being simply dont feel the need for it. Golden age of technology people was totally fine without it. the main goal of humanity in 40k lore, and in reality aswell should be that.
I don't know why I've been binging your most viewed vids, I've never really been into 40k, but I think you've converted me. The information was delivered extremely well and clearly the audio and visuals were great too.
The Disciplining of Logar has to be one of the most horrific and yet hauntingly beautiful stories in the entirety of WH4K. It reminds me a lot of an event in Japanese military history known as the “226 Incident,” where a hypernationalistic sect of IJA cadets known as the Young Cadets tried to obliterate the current Japanese government because they believed it to be corrupt and not following the direct orders of the Emperor. However, after learning of the bloodshed and their refusal to cease the coup, the Emperor himself spoke over Japanese radio his discontent with their actions; the very first time in Japanese history when the Japanese people were ever directly addressed by the voice of the Emperor, himself. The Young Cadets were completely broken from hearing their Emperor’s disapproval of actions they had taken explicitly in his name, and surrendered immediately. In an attempt to act in zealous reverence for their Emperor, they instead angered him to the point that they were forsaken entirely by him. This is an embodiment of human hubris bringing about self-ruin, and the Disciplining of Logar is an exemplary representation of this tragic story.
@@utubecop11 there is an absolutely brilliant Japanese film on the subject, titled: “Four Days of Blood and Snow.” This is genuinely one of the best films I think I have ever seen, and it captures the reality and tragedy of the event in a way that is very reminiscent of Milton’s “Paradise Lost.” If you build any interest at all in the 226 Incident, then I cannot recommend this film highly enough.
I knew of Warhammer 40K since 1991, but only since 2016 did I start to follow and understand the lore. I was blown away be its scope, detail, and complexity. Your two videos, this one and the previous one, firmly grounded me on the foundations of the Warhammer 40K franchise far more than anything. Thank you, Luetin, you have done an amazing job. It is difficult to find flaws in your narration. It is so thoroughly captivating. Even being more than 1.5 hours long, they keep your attention firmly in its place. One more point. For all those who hate the Ultramarines for just being the poster boys of Warhammer 40K, well someone had to be. Those who view and listen to this video will understand and appreciate them a lot more.
Also, Magnus did not have the option to physically travel to Terra as it would reach it too late leaving him with the only option of communicating via a powerful psychic ritual that only himself could pull. Now if only the Emperor wasn't caught in his golden toilet ...
He had time. Horus didnt start the actual civil war for years after being corrupted. Not saying it was Magnus's fault. But he wasnt 50 years away by warp, nothing in the empire is that distant
@@georgerafa5041 just imagine when you have the means to send an message that could be so important that you forget other safer means. The Emporier should of had a Primach hotline
@@georgerafa5041 ..then again, chaos was more aligned with Horus, possible warp travel to Earth, without the Warmasters permission as acting head of imperial forces, for Magnus would likely have ended up within the chaos of the warp's entities, daemons, etc in delaying Magnus's messenger/himself en-route through waprstorms and definite immaterial attack in wapr-space.
Hearing that the chaos gods rose up because one man was just that powerful, is one of the most badass things. Feels twice as frightening and legendary as it sounds
Being stuck in quarantine I started listening to these lore series and am now firmly a fan of the 40k universe. How you managed to bridge the endless wiki into a collated storyline is fantastic.
Heh, gotta love how derpy the entire heresy kind of was. Lorgar "I'm serving an Emperor who desires a secular empire... Imma spread religion!" And all the other traitors "We're forming the Imperium of MAN, so surely we're going to be the ones to rule it, even though we've really only been used for combat and not for administration..."
I mean that's humanity in a nutshell I personally wouldn't like the emperor of man if he had made perfect decisions I liked that even tho he had all that power wisdom and knowledge he was still down to earth and taught belief in science and what can be seen

This is truly amazing.
lol, yeah its a great time killer though
personally, i find the wiki a little dry. check out 1d4chan's 40k section you havent already - equally vast and detailed with luls aplenty
When you just read the legion fluff for fun constantly...
I had similar feelings....it's a good story...but there's SO MUCH OF IT!!!!
If I can handle reading 30% of the entire SCP wiki, this one can't be that hard right?

I originally got into WH40k back in the original "Rogue Trader" rulebook days in the mid-late 1980s. The background "fluff" as what the fans call it, has always been great. The last time I actually played a tabletop WH40k game was in the early 90s with the 2nd Edition rules. I've played WH40k video games like Space Hulk on PS1, Dawn of War 1 & 2 and Chaos Gate on PC. The Emperor, as powerful and mighty he was, also was susceptible to make mistakes and miscalculations, for he was nothing more than a man

“Peacekeepers without a purpose”? Have they looked outside? Orks? Tyrannids? Can’t believe Horus’s greatest fear was getting bored.
tyranids weren't there yet at that time
After ullinor the Orks were smashed and broken in the Milky Way. The tyrannids did not appear in the galaxy until near the 35 M
If the Heresy hadn't happened, the Imperium would have been dominant to the point where none of the factions in the setting could have threatened them.
Niklas Reuter Gerdrup Well maybe the Tyranids. Their swarm is larger than the galaxy
Also another thing the Chaos Gods showed Horus in his vision was that his other brothers would be elevated to the heights of praise and grandeur, but he personally would be cast aside and forgotten once the Emperor was done with him. Niggling away at Horus' ego was a big factor in his downfall.
Without a doubt 40k is truly the most Epic sci fi ever.
truly outrageous
Guyess you haven't seen LoGH.

In the face of death, I shall have no remorse

It’s scary when the line “humanity was saved” happens 20 minutes before the video ends
The Emperor's two biggest flaws were:
@@glenbe4026 errrr what?
That is an absolutely wonderful comparison, I had never thought of it like that. +Respect, May the Emperor Protect!
Well, he said it himself that he's not a god.
The combination of your narration and the music just makes this a lot more epic. Really captures that Grimdarkiness of W40k.

The emperor deciding to engage Horace, literally leaving his strong hold and traveling into the heart of the enemy, when the ultra marine reinforcements were literally right around the corner has to be the single stupidest tactical blunder I’ve ever heard of.
Sometimes it takes an incredibly smart man to fall for something incredibly stupid
Smartest 40k character
There’s like, 4 times when he definitely zigged when he should have zagged and he paid for it big time.
Exceptional work, thanks a lot for your time and effort on this project.
there are lots of similarities to the clone wars in this story, with Palpatine/Vader taking the place of Lorgar/Horus and clones taking the place of the traitor marines.

I had no ideea the Warhammer lore is so awesome .Thx for the video .

Guilleman has always been smart. I like that Games Workshop chose to bring him back. Hopefully they bring back the Emperor sometime down the line.
A lot of people get excited when they see the words ( a long time ago in a galaxy far away) but I get excited when I see (in the grim darkness of the far future, there is only war). because Warhammer 40k is the only Si-Fi universe that not only rivals star wars in its compelling story, but also absolutely overtakes buy a mile in its hugely complex and intricate world and massive scale. you make the best Warhammer lore videos on UA-cam. love the music in the background no one else does that, combined with the properly timed artwork makes the video extremely immersive and entertaining. you are a great story teller too. you definitely ended the video in a awesome way. keep up the great work cant wait to see what you do for your next video.
star wars is nothing compared to warhammers lore xd
Halo has a better universe than Star Wars but Warhammer 40K is insurmountable

Luetin acknowledged this in another posting.
I can't get over how amazing this series is. I don't play or read any 40k stuff, but still I'm so invested in these videos.

Big E's logic (alt): "A cult of personality is fine, a cult is not."
Thank you!

I’m a big optimist and with all the lore I’ve listened to and read I have hope for humanity. The idea of the series is to create this hopelessness but in reality, everyone has ups and downs. I believe that EVENTUALLY humanity will rise again and the fall and rise
The problem with that is that 40K needs the constant warfare, or there isn't a game.
Nope we're fucked, I prefer it that way
I just got into Warhammer 40k lore and one of the things that I really love about this series is the immense irony of the Emperor's personal philosophy on religion & spirituality vs the reality of his central position in the state religion of his Imperium.
This is one of the best 30k/40k videos I've ever saw, if not the best. respect!

It's crazy how much damage the Emperor sustained from fighting Horus. I guess the throne must have taken a HUGE toll on him prior to the fight.
he didnt use his full power at first. untill it was two late

They could make a 6-part Hollywood epic saga out of the Horus Heresy. It'd be fucking kickass.
Tekdrake Meh, better produce a multi season series, to cover most of the source material. Hollywood would give us a low PG Warhammer universe, wich would be quiet bloodless but overloaded with overpayed actors for the sake of money making.

It wasn't easy to condense Tolkien's huge books into movies either, you know. It's not impossible. A lot of the books are filler anyways. (Not saying they're not good.) They're not necessary to be included in a movie retelling.

This might be the greatest tragedy story I’ve ever listened too. And a bit of a freshen up to 40k lore since it’s been awhile
"Or militant veganism"
HERESY! BLAM
Actually I think this idea has some merit. Though, I expect the Imperial “Truth” was supposed to do just what you suggest.
i'm a human and i don't believe in anything, and don't feel the need to. So your argument falls flat there.

Never heard of this before and now will research it further: thanks!
