I drove this Civic model for about 10 years. I never paid anything but regular service, not once. Only the following were changed: light bulbs, oil, tires, filters. The first was a Civic 2008 1.4 VTEC, I drove it for a couple of years and replaced it with the same model, the same color, only 2011 and 1.8 VTEC .. The engine is the only thing missing from that 1.4 model .. I switched to SUV for practical reasons because I was tired of just looking at the holes in the road: D According to Honda, I have deep respect, especially for this 2005-2011 Civic model. I enjoyed driving that car so much, literally the only car you can buy for "little money" and have a real sports car. Acceleration in first / second gear with the sound of a 1.8 VTEC engine is invaluable. The most interesting thing for me was to "run in" from a side street on the main road in front of someone. (Within safe limits of course) I don't think anyone in front when I "flew in" even managed to squeeze the brake, I think it was more in their heads - Jbt this car has rocket propulsion. : D In the first gear, it goes up to 60, even 70 km / h, within a few seconds. Really priceless feeling. Stability is equal to a karting car, it never "betrayed" me in 10 years. Braking, ie. the braking path surprised and saved me a couple of times, it brakes like a cat, believe me. Just don't skimp on pimples. There are places inside for everyone, it's spacious, the trunk is huge, I don't believe that any car in that class has that. I'm telling you, the only "flaw" is a very very hard sports suspension, which is to be expected because this is a very very good sports car: D Rating 10/10, you won't go wrong.

Thank you for letting us know! This is the only thing that keeps me on the fence about buying this as my first car. Glad to hear it's not as much of a problem as it's made out to be.
Awsome car to own, still looks stunning, and still puts a grin on my face. I have the 2011 1.8 VXI Automatic and hardly any trouble with it. Only issue ever experienced was the faulty USB port on the radio that bombed out just after the warranty expired - i never bothered fixing it, I just use the AUX line directly into my ipod now. The review is correct in that it does have a firm ride and poor rear visibability, but those are easy to live with compared to what the rest of the package offers. Cargo space is huge, I manage to fit more cargo into this than my Jeep Cherokee I had before this. The automatic gearbox is perfectly matched with the 1.8l engine and is smooth and responsive. I highly recomend this car.

Do you find the spoiler going across the rear window a pain? Looks like it will be a nightmare to reverse. I'm inches away from buying one, but that is putting me off. Don't want to reverse into something because I can't see lol
Several years ago, I owned a very well used 2000(W) Peugeot 406 HDI. Then one day an acquaintance gave me a lift in a Honda Civic like this. The difference was like day and night. The bumping and crashing from that Civic on the rural A roads of Somerset. The Peugeot just kind of acknowledged they were there, but not a problem. I rather concluded, that after all the years that have passed, the French are the people that know how to make cars that can both handle, and ride well. My current 2006 Yaris Mk2 is like that Civic. You fell every little bump, jarring up through the thing.
Not so much the cars fault as it is the councils that are in charge of the roads. I've heard of people buying SUVs just because of the speed bumps and potholes. I thought we were trying to reduce pollution?
@@peter7582 They likely are well aware that SUV's are big, fat, inefficient and unnecessary. The 'state of the roads' is most probably just the excuse for them to do what they want to do... follow fashion. As for the Civic..., almost every review that I've read about that generation of Civic is very positive, except when they describe the ride. It's not the roads, it's the car.
Very nice cars, and they have held their value well. Recently TDi have unlocked the (petrol) stock ECU, and they have decent tuning potential too. I'm remapping my 1.8 with a few mods in August
@@topman.9646 Went pretty well - you need to speak to TDi North or Paul West (King Tuna) on Facebook. An injen CAI, exhaust and map will put you at about 158/159bhp, but that's not even close to the best part 👌
@@topman.9646 The map is around £500-600 I believe. A catback exhaust system would set you back maybe £400. An injen CAI around £250, prices may have changed since last year though, I don't have the civic anymore so I'm unsure

1.8 L petrol @ 140 BHP; 1.4 L petrol @ 99 BHP (there is a 1.4L 90 BHP, but that's for 2005-2008 era); 2.2 L CRDI diesel @ 140 BHP. The car in the clip is the 1.8L petrol one. You can tell by the redline. The petrol hits the redline at 6700 rpm and the diesel at 4500 rpm
Matt of Carwow interesting. Loved the design of this one, getting a newer Civic though (2013), still like the design but wanted the other improvements the newer models have made.
@uknowstuf2 Hi there! I'm a 1st time buyer and interested in the 1.8 SI (auto). Is yours a manual transmission? If you don't mind my asking, how much does insurance and roadtax cost per month? Did you choose one the Honda finance options?

Is this car reliable ?? Im learning to drive and need something good and cheap that wont be in the repair shop every week. Feel free to list any other cars that are reliable. Petrol max 1.6 Litres manuals please ( ireland/uk )
I've had the car for 11 months after passing my test, have 65000 miles on clock, bought when had 56000 miles, 2.2 diesel. Only problems I've had are creaky interior plastic and a/c not working, but fixed it by replacing relay for £20, mechanic tried to get me to replace compressor for £700 so if you do get this car and have that problem, check the relay first. Rear view isn't a problem as the car has a very good turning circle and large side mirrors. Just be careful coming upto awkward corners, it has a lot of blind spots.
go for the 1.4 i-DSI or 1.4 i-VTEC, immensely reliable, very low fuel consumption, no service costs at all, only oil, filters etc. But take care of it!

Well, the ride comfort part of the equation will be addressed with the all new, redesigned 9th-generation Civic which will be introduced at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September and go on sale in early 2012.
I can only talk from my experience. You're better off in a smaller, LIGHTER car. As i find the modern car, size of the Civic with less power (well below 100bhp) a bit poor, slow and cumbersome. Now i'm not saying you need awesome power or anything like that for a first car. I talking about a car that has decent acceleration (because of the power to weight ratio) for a small engine, and a bit nippy so you can improve and learn your skills for later more powerful cars. It's the better compromise imo. This is why people do tend to go for Polos, Corsas, Fiestas as first cars, instead of cars like the above. Don't underestimate how much you can learn from a smaller car especially with less or basic safety aids.
Hell it's a great car to own, but man parts are expensive if something does break down. Got my right muffer teared off by road debree, costed me 400€ (350£) just for a new pipe. And now after 8 years the cd player has stopped working. I prefer just to keep all things original, but I have the original optional navigation pack on the executive and the dealer says me it will cost at least 600€ (520£) to have a new unit in it! Damn. guess I will first look if I cannot simply put a 8 disc cd changer under the big armrest for (I hope) less money than that! I hope it will be possible to use my big screen , steering controls and the navigiation weel with the disc changer. Anyone experience?
+FrightfulAccountant Rather than brand new I usually get things by trade for the cars I've had. I forked out £120 for a used cat converter for a Swift a month ago. Brand new they are £250-300. Only if I used the car for a job or if its a good commute then I would bother getting brand new parts. It's especially expensive going to a dealer too.
When I bought my car it had already installed with xCarLink unit that acts as an audio player. It's a tiny unit that I have it in my glovebox the size of a SSD in length and as a regular HDD in height. The car's mp3 - radio unit works as well, but I believe that the previous owner wanted something to place a lot more music on the road. I'm looking forward to get the Bluetooth unit from xCarLink installed so that I can make phone calls and listen to the audio system of the car.
I can't believe you can play music by inserting a shiny disk into it. I thought the CD slot was to put a sat nav or phone holder in as holders don't attach to the skinny air vents.

Yes, yes u can .......allegedly 👀

Is there a version with an onboard toilet? I drive long distances and I don't like having to stop to take a crap.
Fantastic car. I love driving it.
the looks of the car made me buy it a black one hope i an pick it up at the end of this week i cant wait =D
Just dont get it in its automatic form. Their auto transmission has problems but with a stick...incredible and super reliable

I've had mine a week now, haven't stopped smiling since. Enjoy buddy.
graham baldwin just picked it up, I love it so much! much better than my old renault clio:D
Ha ha!! My last car was a Fiat Punto so I know how you feel.
graham baldwin haha sure! so much smoother to drive haha
I just bought one today, 52000 miles, £1500 :)
Lewis Hughes here they’re so expensive..I’m buying 2012 62,000 miles for 9600£
Hi..still have it mate...? Have you been happy with it..? Any advice is appropriated..👍
Kian pedram yeah great car, solid engine aswell, very practical. I got rid of it now for a 3 series which I regret lol
Very nice cars, and they have held their value well. Recently TDi have unlocked the (petrol) stock ECU, and they have decent tuning potential too. I'm remapping my 1.8 with a few mods in August
How did you get on? I have a 1.8 and interested in tuning it up 🙂
@@topman.9646 Went pretty well - you need to speak to TDi North or Paul West (King Tuna) on Facebook. An injen CAI, exhaust and map will put you at about 158/159bhp, but that's not even close to the best part 👌
@@blazeclarke cheers mate how much will it cost will a grand get me very far?
@@topman.9646 The map is around £500-600 I believe. A catback exhaust system would set you back maybe £400. An injen CAI around £250, prices may have changed since last year though, I don't have the civic anymore so I'm unsure
@@blazeclarke that’s not too bad! But did it really drive a lot faster when you had it all done?
I've just bought a 2007 2.2 diesel - I love it too.
No esperaba a Matt de Carwow 😂😂, I didn’t expect Matt from Carwow
I'm 17 and looking to buy my first car in a few months, and I am looking at buying one of these. Any ideas on if this is a good idea. Mainly looking at cost of insurance bid it's gonna be sky high

I have a 2010 esi vtec civic european edition but I wanna know what windscreen wiper blade to use are to purchase... Can anyone assist me on this??
I just bought one today
Congratulations you wont regret it. I've had mine for nearly a year now, absolutely love it. I used to love my Volvo 440 GLT back in the day but the Civic beats it hands down. The best car I have ever or will ever own.
Alesha Meherban new 2017 model?
Luka new 2017 model not nicer than this model. Its newer but not nicer.
Hows the car going? Petrol or Diesel?
1.8 L petrol @ 140 BHP; 1.4 L petrol @ 99 BHP (there is a 1.4L 90 BHP, but that's for 2005-2008 era); 2.2 L CRDI diesel @ 140 BHP. The car in the clip is the 1.8L petrol one. You can tell by the redline. The petrol hits the redline at 6700 rpm and the diesel at 4500 rpm
Matt of Carwow interesting. Loved the design of this one, getting a newer Civic though (2013), still like the design but wanted the other improvements the newer models have made.
Wish it was still made today and offered in the US
Do you Found the look and design of 8Th generation better than 10th?
moneyhealthlover I love the sedan version of the 10 gen. Overall I think the 8th is a more beautiful car though
Looking at the 2.2 diesel type s. Heard the engines are bulletproof?
there was only one problem with this civic, the ride was a little rough, it is a slightly lowered and sport car. That the only problem
Mat, is the base version fast enough?Trying to decide here..
Oh my God 12 years ago mat Watson was on carbuyer... what a surprise

@uknowstuf2 Hi there! I'm a 1st time buyer and interested in the 1.8 SI (auto). Is yours a manual transmission? If you don't mind my asking, how much does insurance and roadtax cost per month? Did you choose one the Honda finance options?
You are very lucky! I want it as my first car too! :) Which engine do you have in it? :)
Planning to buy this but 1.4 for cheap insurance, which trim should i look out for and which yr should i buy for the mk8 civic.
Thx
Barnet is Barnet fair which equals to hair. Fair-hair. It's the cockney rhyming slang, true londoners use it, it originates in East London. I'm from London and I love the original London like how it was back then although I wasn't born back then.
Mahfuz Ahmed so how would you no what it’s like then you melt
But take care of it!
had 1 for 2yrs great car

For information. You can use your honda civic to trave your dirtebike, or light sportmotorcycle in, with those seats! It's great!
Up to this day I don't understand how it was so easy for him to lift up the boot floor cover. Mine is so tight to pull out
Would you class it as a small family car?
Hi guys im after 2009 or 2010 one of these
Any tips for reliability petrol or diesel
Cheers
I’ve got an 07 petrol runs like a clock only thing is ac doesn’t work but all other electronics and mechanically goes straight through MOT’s
I have this car, and I feel the steering is super light, now mine does have bad alignment, so I have to position to the left slightly to go straight. I read online that steering can feel loose if out of alignment... Could that be the reason mine feels extra light, to the point where even in a straight like, I'm gripping the wheel
Can I sleep in this car? If I fold down the rear seats how much room would it be really? I am 5.8 tall, 173cm. I belive it would be possible be sleep with legs straight or just bit bend ? Am I right? I feel I might be very comfy there :)
2:48 how did you know about that? (value)
Can you get a small sized engine for first time drivers?
Yes, 1.4 i-VTEC
i m soon to buy this car, wich petrol engine is most relyable?

Can u share ur experience?
@victorpinana8939 it's crazy I saw this message - I bought mine just after this video and no regrets. I got a cat D and still never had any faults passed mot's fine great inside and out great for fuel avarage was 42mpg without trying, just switched to an audi a1 2019 because I fancied something else and having a few problems with it (but it's still a great car). Civic is defo a 10/10 and if I switch in the future I might go back to the newer model
Im thinking to buy one too. what is your fuel consumption? they always lying on that subject. thx happy new year
Well, the ride comfort part of the equation will be addressed with the all new, redesigned 9th-generation Civic which will be introduced at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September and go on sale in early 2012.
I think it looks a lot better than the new civic. It is a freaking space ship! What more do you want? :) Captain Picard maximal warp speed!
Would this be a good first car for a 18yr old, with a non sporty spec?
Don't underestimate how much you can learn from a smaller car especially with less or basic safety aids.
bloody 30sec advert no skip how dare you 😬😬😬😬
Adblock. :)
Hey its tha carwow guy
