Gage is the man!!! He is certainly no typical 8 year old...love his work ethics and "can do" attitude! Tom, the way you teach is therapeutic. What a blessing you two are for your family! And, of course, I enjoyed learning what you taught today! 😊
How cool was that?! Fabulous all the way around! I once went to a marketing dinner where the presenter made fun of people who do it themselves. I walked out! The more you can do yourself the better off you are! Go Tom! Out there empowering the people!!❤❤
As a mother to one son and two grandsons, the value I see is growing confidence in our sons. Yes, you are showing how to change outlets but what you are doing for your son in unmeasurable. I pray you get to your 50k goal to bless you. Good job sir.
And dad not losing his cool and telling you, "don't be so stupid" when you don't have a knowledge-base about this to begin! You are growing strong men there Tom!
This was timely! I came across my charger socket I never installed yesterday. Was a little nervous about installing it back when I bought it. Now, no excuses. Thanks Tom. You're the man and so is your handsome apprentice.❤
I'm confused as to what you did with the green wire once the green coating was off of it. It would be helpful for us newbies if you explained the wires again, if you do another one like this. :) Gage, you were awesome today! Loving Tom's How To Series! ❤
Gage has grown up so much!! I started watching Dawn's channel when the kids were "ages 4 through 8". Your children are very blessed to have the family they have. Tell Gage we are so proud of him!
I love how you teach your children to do this type of stuff. Parents can't and shouldn't rely on school to teach their kids everything. Some things take life experience to learn, and your kids are incredibly blessed to have parents that are so involved in their growth and development. ❤ LOVING these videos, btw!
I love this. Reminds me so much of me and my dad and my husband and our son. I was an only child and my dad wanted me to learn everything. He flipped houses when I was a teenager and I was his helper. He always said that knowledge was power. I’m 67 now and those random skills that I learned from my dad have served me well in life. I have never had to do much of anything like that in my adult life but I also knew when someone was trying to be less than honest. Love and blessings from Texas. And Gage is just adorable 😍
Thank you so much for this series! My husband passed away 18 months ago. Besides being totally lost without him, I don't have him here to fix the outlets and things anymore. There are many of us who can't figure out this stuff without our husbands. This is very helpful. I'd also like to say that I really enjoy watching you, Dawn and your children together. You make me smile and remember goofing off with my husband. I don't watch many couples anymore, it's just too hard. You're both so lighthearted and easygoing. Now if i can just get to decluttering like Dawn's books and videos say, I'd be accomplishing something. Again, thank you for your time and effort and the smiles. P.S. My husband wouldn't turn off the breakers either lol.
Oh my heavens! Gage is just so great! It is such a treat to watch you work with your very accomplished and personable children. Thanks for these videos as they have given more confidence to try updates on my home.
You could have done this in half the time, so I admire your patience in teaching a child. I love how you gently made suggestions. This one made an old Granny's heart sing. Good job!!
Gage did a great job. This was so fun watching Gage and what a sweet personality he has and loves to learn. Tom I love the patience you show with the family. My dad's name was Tom as well and he showed all seven of us as patiently as you do with your children. Good job Gage!!!!
Tom, you should tell him to never touch the 2 wires together, while they are disconnected. My Dad showed me how to change out light switches in my 1st house. I remember him saying, “you’ll be ok as long as you don’t put the 2 wires together”. He rarely turned off the power when replacing plugs and switches. I love how patient you are with your kids. Growing up on a farm, and having a good Dad and Grandpa to teach them will serve them well.
Tom and Dawn, I hope your kids have roller skates to enjoy on that new concrete floor you're putting in the shed! I got to roller skate in my parents' brand new Morton building when I was a kid. It was so fun!
More ideas: replace a door knob, install a deadbolt, remove and (re)hang a door, replace hinges. Remove and replace a bifold closet door from the track, swap out the wheels so it rolls better in the track. Oh, and replace a screen door! Maybe install a doggy door? 😊
Great idea for your channel, Tom👍 also, auto care projects might be helpful. Your RV makeover projects have been fun to watch. Love that your son is inheriting your talents 💯
My dad used to say he'd break two things fixing one. He was never taught to do anything around the house, so he couldn't teach us. I love what you and Dawn are doing for your kids!
Tom you are great with the kids. Do you not use an electrical wire tester even though you shut the power off? PLEASE keep the intro with the garage door hitting the light.
I love the 'I got it on the first try' from the basement. LOL Tom...I hope after these daily videos are done (which are great fun to watch) you keep doing DIY videos. There's a lot of folks that don't have someone in their lives to teach them these things. Great job to both you and Gage!
I feel so built up from this excellent video, feeling like I am getting to learn what Gage is getting to learn and I just wanted to comment on that magical "I love you" at the end of the video. I feel that, trust that, and know it to be true. It is the most affirming part of my day knowing that I am going to get to learn something really useful while being made to feel so encouraged. If that is what home schooling can do, I want to enroll! Thanks, Tom! I am working to spread the word about this amazing series.
Seeing this gave me confidence when my husband asked me, soon after you posted this, if I'd wanna help and replace the outlets. So I did it! Tell your son thanks for the boost of confidence!
Tom, you’re out here changing lives! I’ve got some projects planned for me or my 10yo, now that you’ve made me feel confident it’s safe enough & we’d know what we’re doing.
Such valuable experience for him to get! Awesome!! He will grow up and be confident in whatever he does because you trusted him when he was young. Blessed!!
If you hear any beeping in the back ground that's just my heart, super excited right now because we've got a whole bunch of concrete guys out here doing some work out here....I love that that makes your heart happy Tom!!! :) I love it!! Great job Gage!!!! :) You are so patient with him!! So cool that you want your kids to learn and allow them to help you out!! Gage is super strong!!! :) Looks like you are walking pretty fast towards that beeping noise Tom!!! :)
Great job Gage! Good job mom and dad teaching your kids to be self reliant. I might have to change one of the plugs here just for that USB... Thanks again. 😊
Hahaha I just got an interrupting ad saying 'the best way to do electric work in your home is Don't, find a [electrician]'. Right after you admitted you weren't planning to kill the power 😂
I've had "cheaper" LED bulbs whine like that even though they say dimmable. Sometimes I've had expensive ones flash during certain ranges of the dimming range. I've even had them act up when they weren't all the same type when on the same circuit. LED bulbs are temperamental. :)
Gage is the man!!! He is certainly no typical 8 year old...love his work ethics and "can do" attitude! Tom, the way you teach is therapeutic. What a blessing you two are for your family! And, of course, I enjoyed learning what you taught today! 😊
These things should be taught in school. I liked shop class as a teenager.
I love the way you and Dawn teach all your kids to be self sufficient. Fabulous job, Gage! 💡
I love how patient you are with your kids! Looked like he was really soaking up the one-on-one time with Dad.
Love how patient you are with the boys as you are teaching them. It’s really nice to see you teaching them life skills. Great job!
Even if I did not do this, I would save this video. I teared up as I saw you two working together so lovingly. Good Dad Tom, wonderful son Gage!
How cool was that?! Fabulous all the way around! I once went to a marketing dinner where the presenter made fun of people who do it themselves. I walked out! The more you can do yourself the better off you are! Go Tom! Out there empowering the people!!❤❤
I love that you give you kids the opportunity to do it themselves & not take over immediately if they struggle a bit. Well done!!
You are such an amazing Dad!!
I love watching you work with your son!!
The added bonus is that you are teaching us to!!
Tom, you and Dawn are wonderful parents who are great examples of how to teach your children self-confidence. Way to go, Gage! 😊
As a mother to one son and two grandsons, the value I see is growing confidence in our sons. Yes, you are showing how to change outlets but what you are doing for your son in unmeasurable. I pray you get to your 50k goal to bless you. Good job sir.
Gage has gotten so big! They grow up fast! Teaching him some great skills dad ❤
Great job Gage! Not many kids have a Dad like you. Keep up the learning.
Good job Dad!
Loving the series, can't wait for more...LOVE the way Tom works with his kids : )
You're a good dad, good to see kids being taught to do skills that will be forever helpful and appreciated.
And dad not losing his cool and telling you, "don't be so stupid" when you don't have a knowledge-base about this to begin! You are growing strong men there Tom!

Gage is the best!! ALL your children are motivated in their own special interest…and with their wonderful parents!!
You guys are giving your kids such a life full of skills. Awesome!
These are the days Gage will remember forever. Good work you guys.
Wonderful skills. You are so patient and encouraging. That is how you teach a child to love doing things.
Gage is such a great kid. ☺️
Gage, Great job helping Dad out. You're awesome! 😊
Gage has grown up so much!! I started watching Dawn's channel when the kids were "ages 4 through 8". Your children are very blessed to have the family they have. Tell Gage we are so proud of him!

Gage is adorable! Good job Dad and Mom! ❤
Tom, Dawn and your family are very Blessed to have you! You are making memories with Gage and teaching life lessons! ❤️ Great video!

You have a great helper!
Love your opening disclaimer. 😂
I love that you let your kids learn things from you and Dawn.

Most adorable assistant ever! Thank you, gentlemen for teaching us today! Y'all are the best!❤🙏 Jane in SC 😊
I love watching Gage help out and you are a calm, patient teacher.❤
Oh my heavens! Gage is just so great! It is such a treat to watch you work with your very accomplished and personable children. Thanks for these videos as they have given more confidence to try updates on my home.
I love seeing you both working together. And Tom, please always turn off the power. Always. We love you, your family loves you, and we all need you! ❤
I have tears in my eyes and my heart has melted into a puddle ! Great job guys !
You could have done this in half the time, so I admire your patience in teaching a child. I love how you gently made suggestions. This one made an old Granny's heart sing. Good job!!
Such a cutie!! Great job dad!!
Awesome series, Tom! Hope there will be a playlist at the end...
Great job guys! Thank you both for teaching us a thing or two about rewiring outlets.

Yay for concrete work being done!!
Well done Gage. He's growing up so much and love how you are teaching him these skills.
Thanks Gage (and Tom)! Now I know how to install the USB outlets on my old wiring!
Well, that was the cutest home improvement video ever. 😁 See you guys tomorrow!!
My dad used to say he'd break two things fixing one. He was never taught to do anything around the house, so he couldn't teach us. I love what you and Dawn are doing for your kids!

Great job, Gage! Thank you,Tom,for teaching your children how to do practical things!
Seeing this gave me confidence when my husband asked me, soon after you posted this, if I'd wanna help and replace the outlets. So I did it! Tell your son thanks for the boost of confidence!
Tom! You are stressing me out with these videos where you don't shut off the power for yourself!
Yes!! This is my day! I’m so excited!! Also I love that Gabe was like.. what? Lol
Tom, you are 100% correct! The humming sound of the bulbs is because they aren’t dimmable bulbs. Once you replace them it will go back to normal.
Tom, you’re out here changing lives! I’ve got some projects planned for me or my 10yo, now that you’ve made me feel confident it’s safe enough & we’d know what we’re doing.
Awesome 👏 great job gage 😁😁

You are teaching your children the most amazing life skills. I have no doubt that it is appreciated. And gee, If Gage can do it, so can I.
Boys will do what you do not what you say! We have 3!!!
Great job Gage!
Good job mom and dad teaching your kids to be self reliant.
I might have to change one of the plugs here just for that USB... Thanks again. 😊
That's the most I've heard Gage talk 😊
Hahaha I just got an interrupting ad saying 'the best way to do electric work in your home is Don't, find a [electrician]'. Right after you admitted you weren't planning to kill the power 😂
Wow, Gage grew up! Way to go, Gage. An electrician at eight years old.
Go Gage!!! Great job! Wish you could come to Sacramento and help me out.
Great Dad and son!!!
Your little helper did a great job!
Great job, Gage!
I've had "cheaper" LED bulbs whine like that even though they say dimmable. Sometimes I've had expensive ones flash during certain ranges of the dimming range. I've even had them act up when they weren't all the same type when on the same circuit. LED bulbs are temperamental. :)
Ha! 12 seconds in. It’s a great series. Fun stuff.
What a great Dad, and very helpful information!
