It's as good as it looks! Isn't it fascinating to see the dishes that existed 200 years ago? And to see that they were actually good! Come over to our 2nd channel Frontier Patriot to watch us eat this meal and give our proper review: ua-cam.com/video/BKMEMB3Pte8/v-deo.html
Yup. Old Farmers Almanac and Yankee Magazine are full of them. We still eat many recipes from 200 years ago
You remind me of an Early American Julia Childs love to watch you cook all those old time recipes. Very interesting and enjoy the history behind them. Thank you so much! Happy ducky 🎃🦆
Where is mine LOL 💚
I grew up in a Hungarian household and my grandma made a similar version of the 200 year old receipt for fried mashed potato balls using leftover mashed potatoes. Her version was "potato cakes". Instead of breading the outside, everything was mixed together and fried in a skillet. She mostly just used onion, salt & pepper and parsley for her version as far as seasoning, omitting the rosemary, thyme and nutmeg. And of course we had duck or goose depending on what my great-uncle was able to successfully hunt.
Forgive me for asking but do you have any running water nearby-I guess what I’m asking is how do you wash your hands? Between the raw meat and eggs and just the mess of mixing butter with your hands or the potatoes, I keep wondering!
Thanks.
Thank you for not putting music over the top of your videos! They’re quiet, delicious, and indulgent.
I love the fact that she loves to eat, and that she shows how much she enjoys what she makes.
Yes she enjoys her cooking
So basically everyone who makes cooking videos?
I just have to giggle when I see her so proud of herself for fixin a delicious meal. She sure looks like she is enjoying it.
She is adorable!!! That smile she gets when she tastes the food is just too cute!!
I have hunted duck for over 50 years and that is one BIG duck. What breed is it? I love to eat duck Thank you for this recipe. 😊
My nervous system loves these videos
Definitely helps my anxiety....but not so much my grocery budget....which in turn adds to my anxiety. The circle of life in this recession. 😄🙄
Who would have ever thought that nearly a million ppl would be interested in watching a 200 yo “how to” but we all love it!
@@rachelharris725 for sure 😆
My brain cells love these videos. Very relaxing indeed like ASMR
I absolutely love the video,I love your word about your nervous system cos I absolutely get it all
I want a little cottage in the woods so I can cook like you Justine.
It all starts with a dream!
Me too.... It would be perfect
Exactly what I was thinking
Without paying bills too 💅 lol 😂
@Filthy Peasant Don’t go off on HER about it.
I am in love with those fried potatoes balls! They look so tasty!
They were good !
@@EarlyAmerican were the fried potato balls almost the same consistency similar to that of hush puppies?
(Wife typing) Justine! My family cannot even tell you how much we love your channel! It brings us so much joy! Many of the recipes we are able to recreate here at home as part of our homeschool. You are helping our family build wonderful memories while keeping a beautiful era of history alive! I and my four boys shout from Iowa "THANK YOU!"
Have Mercy... It don't get better than this. Love this channel!
Oh boy! Now that is comfort food on a serious level. Just wow. Great job Justine! That looks delicious. 👌
Oh, I’m definitely going to try those potato balls with left over Thanksgiving mashed potatoes! Thanks for the great idea!
The cabin looks extra cozy with the snow on the ground ❤
My late Grandma made the most delicious roast duck with raisin apple stuffing! This meal is making me drool!!
Beautiful looking duck, but those potato balls are the real star of the meal..You're an amazing cook.♥
You said it sister
I've just subscribed to both your channels. Excellent entertainment. Better than anything on regular television. Thanks!
That duck looked so delicious. And love the recipe idea for repurposing leftover mashed potatoes.
Nutmeg in the potatoes with onion and rosemary and thyme? I didn’t see that coming! You have peaked my curiosity now! I think I am going to try this!
Nutmeg in savory cooking is fantastic! It is an unlikely combo in modern cooking but in classic French it’s used in sauces, especially cheese sauces because it brings out the flavor. Much like adding salt to baked goods!
Correct 😁😁😁
I loved this vlog Justine, it looks so tasty, and I loved the triumphant look on your face as you tasted your efforts, always enjoy your video's 🌞🌞🖐
These videos are so comforting 🥰 I wish people still cooked like this. It’s relaxing.
I found your channel a few days ago and it’s my absolute new favorite content, so relaxing and cool to watch!
The potato balls looked WONDERFUL! Imma gonna try them myself.
This was my favorite meal so far! I was waiting for that moment when Justine would break open one of those crispy potato balls. I wish I was her in that moment! Delish
Congratulations on 800,000 subscribers!!!
🎉🎉🎉Soon to be 1 million!!!🙂👍
Mashed duck and fried potatos - sounds yummy, the smile is always so wholesome.
Ducks shouldn't be made into food.
@@hannahduggan3599 why not ?
@@solitaire5856 Because back in August of 2022, me and my little brother Seth were watching The Wiggles Racing To The Rainbow. We saw Murray and Captain Feathersword singing Five Little Ducks together. Right after the song, there was a duck swimming in the water, looking very peaceful and beautiful while the instrumental version of Five Little Ducks was playing in the background. It broke my heart to realize that ducks, just like that one, were being hunted, shot, killed, plucked, and made into food.
Well, that’s good timing for Thanksgiving leftovers! It looks wonderful!
I LOVE duck! I love it roasted while over chopped potatoes, onions, whole cloves of garlic and herbs. The duck drippings crisp the potatoes underneath as the duck roasts (also stale bread cubes instead of potatoes is nice nice as well.
I love watching your videos.. it reminds me of when I was younger and our family lived in a tent and log lean-to on some property. We cooked over a brick and stone hearth my parents built, all our food was from scratch. I because really good at cooking over a fire and coals, baking as well. It was the best time in my life
Mmmmm those potatoes look really good, as does that duck. Never tried duck before but now I feel tempted to. And I love that outdoor November snow too!
I just finished dinner and this made me hungry!😅 I think Ron is going to love this meal. 👍
Remember when they started telling us that lard was bad for us? Heck my grandma used to fry pancakes in bacon fat. She lived to her late 90s and used lard. Compare lard to all the chemical additives that they are now putting in food. I will take lard and bacon fat over modern food any day. Great dishes as always, Justine. 😋
these videos are soothing and also a lifesaver! i’m writing a novel set in rural massachusetts in the 1850s, and while there is a slight gap in time frame these videos give me great insight into what daily life would’ve been like back then. Thank you!
I really enjoy your videos. You and Ron seem perfectly matched. Equally shy and polite.
I remember my Grandmother cooking on her cast iron stove. My Grandparents own a 14 acre farm. They had chickens, pigs, horses, etc.. The first time (as children) we saw our Grandmother kill a chicken to make dinner we were shocked. We loved going to visit my Grandparents because we lived in the city so for us siblings it was excitement to see all the animals. Great memories!! Those days are gone with the wind.
Days are gone but memories remain
Now that meal really, really looks Yummy.. Beautiful Justine 🙏🕊️🌿💜
I’ve heard of stuffing balls, but unto seeing this I’ve never heard of potato balls. They sure look good. Everything she cooks looks good.
I love it, no fork required! You go, girl! 😊
Thank you, Justine. It looks great and delicious.
These are lovely. Its nice to prepare these dishes. I remember a 1808 cook book of the white house. With delicious recipes.
Am I the only one who wanted to take a bite of one of those golden potato balls right when she scooped them out of the boiling lard! Good golly Miss Molly!
The snow looks beautiful outside your cozy cabin. I would dearly love to have something similar. Its so nice of you and Ron to share all this beauty and tranquility. Thankyou!❤️💙🙏🙏
That looks delicious. My mama (born. 1918) used to make those potatoes but just flat. So much crunch. And. That. Crispy. Duck!❤
Ducks shouldn't be made into food. It's because when I watched The Wiggles Racing To The Rainbow back in August, Murray and Captain Feathersword were both singing Five Little Ducks together. At the end of the song, there was a duck swimming in the water. The duck looked so peaceful and beautiful, but my heart was completely broken when I realized that ducks just like that one were being killed and made into food and other things.
Thanks!
I don’t know why but I love the sound of eggs being cracked open! I would so live in their little cabin, love watching your videos, keep em coming.❤
It always amazes me that cooking techniques and herbs and spices used today are over 200 years old. Love your channel.
This looks scrumptious!! Lovely filmed as always, I really enjoyed that.
I love snow! So beautiful! Can’t wait to see you guys eating this!
I love her dishes!
Love that grinder she does the nutmeg with!
This lady can really cook some delicious food the hard way.
Such a fantastic channel. Editing, shots, style, and learning. One of the rare gems on UA-cam. You just gave me my idea for the Turkey tomorrow - thanks!
I am really going to make the fried mashed potatoes. I may put bacon and shredded cheese inside. You make such delicious dishes and after cooking for 57 years I need new ideas. So happy to be able to see your videos.
寒くなると、ぬくもりに満たされたこの映像が
わたしのこころも温めてくれる ありがとう
It makes my heart warm
I adore Justine's little smile when she's pleased with what she made. You're a rockstar, Justine!!
I love your channel so much! I love your home. And the sounds of the fire are amazing! The food is always looking good. I made your recepe yesterday, the potatoe pie with unions. It was really nice.
Always a stellar performance … looks delicious!
Totally going to make those potato balls for Thanksgiving. A blessed Thanksgiving to you both, and your families. :)
Absolutely wonderful 💛
I just discovered this channel and I totally love it! I love early American history, and I love food. Also, the only thing better than eating good food is seeing someone truly enjoy their food. This young lady was in duck heaven! LOL! Keep up the good work and I'll probably binge watch a bunch of these episodes tonight. Cheers!
Wow. Nothing you have ever prepared has ever made me so hungry. You are such a pro, you make it look so easy. Now I need to figure out where to find a duck. 😨😨
Look for a pond.
@@tooprotected 🤣🤣🤣
Butcher shop
I can taste the duck as I watch this video. I started roasting duck two years ago. When done right, it's delicious. Makes a heck of a mess in the oven.... splattering this way and that... but I love the taste of potatoes and onions roasted in the duck fat at the bottom of the pan. As to your spreading butter with breadcrumbs at the outset, that is something I've never heard of....and will try. As always, nice to see the wood burning fire blazing away....
Very good idea for my next Christmas meal !
Thanks from France 🥰
Love your snow. You have more than we do in Cincinnati. We had quite a bit of sleet and snow but did not accumulate like yours.
Duck looks delish.
I love watching the process, such simple ingredients but you can tell how delicious it was. Those fried crispy potatoes, yum and that duck, you could see how succulent it was, cooked perfectly by Justine. 😋🤗
Every video that you do is so calming
I love all the sounds and the warmth in these videos. Not to mention how aesthetically pleasing everything is.
Potatoes will never not be delicious, especially when fried. Timeless classic, YUM!
That duck looked divine! So succulent 🤌
Love your videos so much. I enjoy all things early American and cooking plus they are so calming. Keep up the good work.
Guuurrlll... this looks AMAZING! Look at how rich that duck meat is with hemoglobin. And those potato balls! Yumm 😍
I love this recipes , it's so relaxing to watch them , thank you !
You have no idea how much joy these videos bring me. Plus you give me so many ideas for cooking. :)
Excellent dish , with a little French influence .
Love your channel ✌️♥️🇦🇺🇺🇸
OMG! The snow is gorgeous!
I just want you to know how much my family loves your channel and truly appreciates everything you do. Our family lives off grid, and our source of cooking and baking is similar. Our family says we're too old fashioned but we could never go back to a modern kitchen. ❤️❤️
Atmospheric and yummy as always. Thank you for the video ❤
Wow, Justin! The food looks amazing! I enjoy these videos more than words can convey. I love the silence. No obnoxious music like most videos. Thank for providing us with clean, wholesome, fun and educational entertainment. We appreciate you both! Have a prosperous and Happy New Year!
Looks amazing as always!! Love you guys!!
These videos are so calming and interesting, we still use some of these recipes today to some extent. I will look forward to trying them myself and hope that I can do as good a job. As our lady .........I have ordered a similar book hoping to get similar recipes.
Winter is cold but it sure makes your cabin look nice. 👍
The bread crumbs on a roasted duck is very intriguing. I might have to try that.
These videos are so relaxing to watch!!
I have binge watched all of your videos and want more. I find them very calming.
I truly enjoy your videos. Calm and relaxing and I get really hungry for some chow.
My wife plays these videos all day, keep up the great work!
I can only imagine how nice the cabin smelled! The roast duck and fried potato balls looked perfect. And your smile told me what you cooked was excellent!
Just found your show on youtube and my 100 YO grandfather and I have been watching. We love it and found that you are located just across the river in St. Genevieve, MO. Perhaps we will bump into you some time and be able to say hi. Good luck on your show!
It's so relaxing watching you cook! Love the chat on the other channel as well. Telling all my family and friends to watch.
The toasted duck and mashed potatoes came out looking good and looked delicious .
Excellent job. Yall are inspiring.
Cooking up the past is so much fun!
That looks good. I've never eaten duck, but I would gladly dive into that meal. My doctor would probably swear at me for eating it, but that looks amazing.
@EarlyAmerican I will try the mash potato balls. I could see the whole time you were excited about making them. I think I’m going to serve them with melted butter though. Mmmmmm. I’ve never had duck and won’t probably ever try it. It looked great as always though. You’re an amazing cook.
Where does Justine get all of her beautiful pottery from and the egg holder and the nutmeg grinder??? I’m sitting here swooning 😊.
Always looks so good to eat!
Nice video, looks good for cold Snowy day.
Just discovered your channel today and have already watched three videos. I think something like what you do seems like a wonderful job for the senses and the soul.
you have excelled in every field i am proud of you congratulations👌😊❤️🌹
Use them drippings for gravy! 💗💗💗
I have never eaten a duck. Even though this looks very delicious I think I will stick with chicken and turkey. I love watching you cook Justine, so relaxing. Can't wait for the chew & chat😁
😳 WHAT ! you should try an Asian dish : Duck with Straw Mushrooms ✌️♥️🇦🇺🇺🇸
@@mattfraser3452 Maybe I will try it, because it sounds delicious too. But I will cook it with a chicken😉😉
Duck is delicious, but can be a bit fatty.
Duck is delicious, my favorite, as it is all dark meat. 😊
@@iluv2worship I probably wouldn't like it. My favorite is white meat and it being greasy is a no-no. I hate greasy meat. To each his own they say😁😁 Have a blessed day.
Leftover mashed potatoes. I didn’t know there was such a thing! 😅 Also, I love your nutmeg grinder. That’s a cool little gadget.
