Children of Bodom was one of the bands I discovered in High School that really opened me up to this style of European metal. So stoked for you to check this out.
Same except, Children of bodom was one of the first bands I found that got me into metal. I've been a metalhead for almost 12 years. I was in high school when I first found them. Great memories 😢
I remember someone played their Britney's cover on a phone in school and I was like "LOL, but actually... these guys can play!" and I started to listen to them (since then I can't help myself but Alexi is associated with Britney Spears to me, he's blonde too :-D). I've been to their concert twice and actually the sound was kinda shit ))) But anyway it was crazy and entertaining.

ua-cam.com/video/qfqaYt2HzZU/v-deo.html have a look at the live version of kissing the shadows. At 2:00 he sings the chorus and has the lead in guitar, insane! And at that time he was 21/22.
You can't believe how furious I have sometimes become when people in a party or whatever say "this is just noise and mindless beating of the drums". Ok, I can understand if you're not a metal fan but usually these kinds of comments come from people who have never touched an actual musical instrument in their lives and therefor have no clue how much talent they are hearing. My 83 year old Grandpa, as a former jazz musician heard COB in my teen age years and actually came to ask me "what band is this?" I told him it's COB from Finland ( where we live ), and even though he had hard time listening the vocals he hugely respected their melodies and composing altogether!
@@spectranaut2464 - Actually this is not so bad. Some of the most difficult are in the album Follow The Reaper.. also.. sixpounder's main solo.. yeah, I have pretty fast fingers but the fact you have to pick every note in that tempo.. OMG!! :D
children of bodom is text book melodic death metal, they were one of the pioneers of the genre and in my opinion the absolute best at it, you know that Alexi Laiho was a special kind of frontman and musician, when guys like Dave Mustaine says that heavens metal band now has their lead guitarist. Laiho orchestrated a 100 man guitar medley for the honor of finnish 100th year of independence. he played fricking vivaldi as solos for fun, made a brittney spears song in to a heavy metal ballad, he was a hero of my youth and one of the biggest reasons i started to listen to the ogs in both metal and music in general.
RIP Alexi :( I'm grateful I was able to see you play live a number of times. Trashed, Lost & Strungout was certainly one of their most underrated tracks.

9:10 Yes, Janne Wirman was actually a Jazz Keyboardist when he joined Children of Bodom. They converted him into a metal head xD And yes, Children of Bodom were incredible live! They were always about having fun and partying. In true finnish fashion they were always piss drunk on stage but they would still deliver everytime. I suggest you watch any song from their live DVD Stockholm 2006, they are all incredible! But my absolute favorite will always be their song "Angels Don't Kill" from that live show. It's a beautiful melodic death metal ballad (yes, a ballad!) and in my opinion the best song CoB has ever written!
its always nice when someone has the knowledge to really acknowledge how skilled they are and appreciates them so much. Those guys inspired a little guy to pick up the guitar when he was young and hes still going strong, 14 years later. Man i love this band.
One of the most incredible bands I ever saw live. They're all classically trained and have known eachother since primary school. The keyboard player was indeed studying jazz when he joined the band. Rest well Alexi, wherever you are.
I found bodom in as a freshman in high school and watching Alexi play made me pick up guitar and start playing with my friends throughout the rest of my high school time. Best 4 years I had.
Ok, I don’t usually comment on videos but I’m feeling emotional (because the lead singer of this band recently passed away) and because you have a true appreciation for the music it seems. As someone who grew up in high school listening to this band I recommend some other bands which I’ve also fallen in love with (ranked by order of preference) - across different styles yet not too far in certain ways since melodically very powerful and also very mature in terms of sound. Hopefully this helps with some of the catching up if you feel like you’ve been missing out :p 1. Ensiferum (and Wintersun, first album) 2. Windir 3. Equilibrium 4. Opeth 5. Finntroll 6. Falkenbach 7. Moonsorrow 8. Immortal 9. Children of Bodom (the first four albums) 10. In Flames (first 5 albums) 11. Summoning 12. Dimmu Borgir (early albums, including the remastered Stormblåst) 13. Kalmah 14. Amon Amarth 15. Korpiklaani
As a keyboardist, I love your reaction to the keyboard solo 😃. Its really crazy! He is actually formally trained jazz pianist and I believe his father was jazz pianist too.
Every song...EVERY song is the level of quality song-writing. They have one of the most unique styles I’ve ever heard. A heavier thrash-punk vibe meets some of the best melo-death melodies and neoclassical playing ever. And man...Alexi was one of the greatest guitarists of all time. You could never completely replicate his solos when trying to learn them. He was my childhood hero and the reason I play guitar. RIP to the absolute legend. Gone but never forgotten.
Alexi is lead guitar, he just sings cuz he didn´t want other people just for singing and nobody else wanted haha, he never cared about the vocals o lyrics really. And he composes all the songs, except for the keyboard solos and obvious things other band members have to do. In fact, they have said in interviews that for new albums, they just sit and wait for Alexi to come up with all the riffs, solos and bridges.
"This song is incredibly special. It appears that hard work went into that.." They're all like that. They're all like that my brother. All of the songs are like that
Pretty cool analysis - it is not change of intensity but change of accent. That's why Alexi is considered a master of his craft for piecing these melodic pieces together while keeping things Raw and powerful. RIP Alexi Laiho. Wildchild has gotta be creating havoc in heaven \m/
Man...your face after that keyboard solo...🤣😳😳😳 Made my day ...👍 Great reaction and analysis... .just keep doing what you do..Chase doing Chase things..and I'm all for it and on-board..🤘..be safe and keep healthy ♥️
I sincerely am happy to hear that you enjoyed this band, they were one of a kind, always will be, and a lot of that comes from the lead guitarist/lead vocalist Alexi Laiho, who sadly just passed away at the age of 41 about a week ago in Helsinki Finland. I highly recommend checking out some other videos. If you like the keyboardist, you should do a reaction to Downfall, the keyboard and guitar intro and the build on that one is intense, and the drums are just chugging along. Yeah, you got 10 albums and about 2 albums worth of cover songs to tide you over, they did quite a bit of work in the almost 25 years they were around, one of my all time favorite bands. RIP Alexi Laiho
Also just found them in the beginning of this year, but havent looked back ever since... The energy, the melodies, the whole character of this band is just awesome! So raw, so wild in a way and so beautiful at the same time...
This song in particular, specifically this music video on Yahoo! Music back before UA-cam, was the bridge between me listening to Metallica, Megadeth, and Slayer, to listening to extreme metal. It blew me away so I bought their entire discography. Within a year I was listening to all kinds of Death and Black Metal.
the funny thing and funny story from the keyboardist from this band is that he was in the begining a Jazz Keyboard player, but someday Alexi convinced him to do music in the band.
Saw them first in 2004 on Dynamo open air and Wacken Open Air, was amazing. Over the years several more times. Last time in 2019 on Fortarock. Always a party to see them.
Came back to your joyful first time reaction to these melodeath heavyweights just to recap how awesome their compositions were from your unique perspective. RIP Alexi 🙏
It warms my Heart to see you (re)discovering my absolute favourite from way back when. I would love to see more of them on your channel ( especially CHILDREN OF BODOM - Sixpounder as that is exactly the 2003 CoB that I grew up with and to this day love, and it has a music video, so that'll have to do ;-) ) and for the last as always: Commenting for stats, Like for obvious reasons
This band got me into metal music and I had two chances to see them live for basically free, but didn't go. I thought i have time to go later and when i heard they were breaking up, it did feel really bad. I wish i went to see these guys, they were such an awesome band who helped me through the hard times and also inspired me to pick up the guitar and start learning it.
I have been listening to metal since i was 12 (from Finland)...but only now im beginning to understand it...it is more or less like a Classical Music. It has been nice to watch your very ”professional” reactions. I can find Similar reactions also by myself (enjoying)...allthough im not a Musician, Music has a really big part in our family. That is why cutting.pieces ”a part” is important...especially for future musicians like our children: guitar, piano and trumpet or whatever :)
Alexi was 8 years older than me, I've been listening CoB and other bands with similar music through high school and later. Near 30s I was more focused on rock, but still this music had a special space in my heart, but now? Now I feel like... really mortal?

But my absolute favorite will always be their song "Angels Don't Kill" from that live show. It's a beautiful melodic death metal ballad (yes, a ballad!) and in my opinion the best song CoB has ever written!
its always nice when someone has the knowledge to really acknowledge how skilled they are and appreciates them so much.
Those guys inspired a little guy to pick up the guitar when he was young and hes still going strong, 14 years later. Man i love this band.
Sad to see that the front man has passed away
Kings of melodic death metal!!!!
Alexi Laiho was a King of the Guitar Kings. C.O.B was my favourite band...ummm fuck it, its still my favourite 😍
One of the most incredible bands I ever saw live.
They're all classically trained and have known eachother since primary school. The keyboard player was indeed studying jazz when he joined the band.
Rest well Alexi, wherever you are.
Nice to see that you’re putting my home country on the map...again! 😅🤘🏻🤘🏻 I actually took pictures at one of their shows back in 2013, fun times.
Hopefully this helps with some of the catching up if you feel like you’ve been missing out :p
1. Ensiferum (and Wintersun, first album)
2. Windir
3. Equilibrium
4. Opeth
5. Finntroll
6. Falkenbach
7. Moonsorrow
8. Immortal
9. Children of Bodom (the first four albums)
10. In Flames (first 5 albums)
11. Summoning
12. Dimmu Borgir (early albums, including the remastered Stormblåst)
13. Kalmah
14. Amon Amarth
15. Korpiklaani
Pretty much the soundtrack of my school days. \../. Just throw in some more "extreme" stuff too like early CoF, Necrophobic so on - and you're there.
Too bad no more COB. Alexi has a new band called Bodom After Midnight
That's effectively COB though.
@@timmokoo5679 Well if you consider Alexi Laiho and Daniel Freyberg as the core of COB then maybe yes.
I suggest you go check the live concert of Bodom After Midnight because Alexi practiced his stuff and plays his solos way better than he have in years
Their first 4 albums is all you’ll need ☺️
But those you REALLY need :)
indeed! 5th and 6th is ok but first 4 are way more better than the rest
First 3 for me
@Swords Chant fake news 🗞
@@cypherredux2771 First four songs are some of their finest work. The title track is a romp of blissful angry execution
Gone but never forgotten.
he mix extreme metal with classic rock solo's
Alexi is lead guitar, he just sings cuz he didn´t want other people just for singing and nobody else wanted haha, he never cared about the vocals o lyrics really. And he composes all the songs, except for the keyboard solos and obvious things other band members have to do. In fact, they have said in interviews that for new albums, they just sit and wait for Alexi to come up with all the riffs, solos and bridges.
It's been a hot minute since I've listened to Children of Bodom. Thanks for the reminder of how talented they are!
Thanks for listening. They're fantastic!!!
Every single bodom song has something powerful in it man. Its something that was a different level
Rest in peace Alexi ❤ you made my teenage years so great
thanks for the releases, you are great. Don't stop no matter what
"This song is incredibly special.
Since you asked for Bodom suggestions, Everytime I die.... not one of my fav bands but that song is awesome
Coming back to say R.I.P. Alexi. Crazy for them to be popping back up so much for me lately and then for him to pass so suddenly. Crazy old world.
Man...your face after that keyboard solo...🤣😳😳😳 Made my day ...👍 Great reaction and analysis... .just keep doing what you do..Chase doing Chase things..and I'm all for it and on-board..🤘..be safe and keep healthy ♥️
The stare 😳 at 8:40 is a new one. Nice reaction, man!
😂😂😂
I literally laughed out loud!!!
I’ve always been partial to Kissing the Shadows. Great one!
RIP Alexi Laiho 😞
Also just found them in the beginning of this year, but havent looked back ever since... The energy, the melodies, the whole character of this band is just awesome!
So raw, so wild in a way and so beautiful at the same time...
This was a very informed reaction! Ive seen them live about 7 times and they seriously got better every time. Flashy and fun in all the right parts
Speaking of Finnish bands, I'll recommend/remind you to react to Wintersun - Time and/or Wintersun - Loneliness. ;)
Alexi laiho..the legend the man....the guy that change my life through his guitar n vocals....forever in love with children of bodom
Always a party to see them.
my favourite track from the bunch by far, awesome reaction and analysis. RIP Alexi :(
Came back to your joyful first time reaction to these melodeath heavyweights just to recap how awesome their compositions were from your unique perspective. RIP Alexi 🙏
You're wonderful. I'm sad and honoured
Oh yes! Chase reacting to Children of Bodom, best friday ever! Thank you. ☺️
👌
Thanks for reacting COB! I really like their last album and a single from it "Under grass and clover"
"Everytime I Die" sweet lullaby, little bit slower but heavy and melodic as hell! My all time favourite from their endless gatalogue.
8:39 lmao, you're Chase Face there had me HOWLING 😂😂😂😂😂
Omg me too!! 😂😂
Yeah the hometown boys blowing minds! There is so much of Bodom if you want to jump in to the rabbit hole.
One of my favorite Bodom songs, i could listen to it all day long!
Holy shit your reaction to Janne shredding on the keys is priceless.
R.I.P. Alexhi Laiho :(
I have been listening to metal since i was 12 (from Finland)...but only now im beginning to understand it...it is more or less like a Classical Music.
RIP Alexi
please more reactions on children of bodom
Alexi was 8 years older than me, I've been listening CoB and other bands with similar music through high school and later. Near 30s I was more focused on rock, but still this music had a special space in my heart, but now? Now I feel like... really mortal?
