    I agreee with others, the spear should have been condi. It has no real niche other than solo PVP whereas necro has been crying out for melee condi for years.

      My copium tells me they'll also bring trident (and maybe harpoon gun) to land combat at some point. Like how SOTO's Weapon Profeciency had a phase 2.
      Though Im a little thankful Spear wasn't condi, because spear skins are so limited in style. 😂

      Necro still has basically no support weapon skills, that's what I was hoping for (yes, Staff 2 and Warhorn 5 exist but I mean, come on)

      @@student76543 The idea of a necro support weapon is a bit interesting to me, because as opposed to warrior who desperately needed a support weapon, necro already has heal scourge and cele scourge, two of the most powerful support builds in the game. If you gave heal scourge warrior's staff right now, it would literally be twice as good as any other healer. So if spear was a support weapon, would they nerf scourge's barrier numbers to compensate? Give the weapon no life force generation and no cc? Make it a really weak with tiny healing values? The necessary tradeoffs all seem kind of awkward, because unless you're really severe with them, scourge becomes way better than any other healer.

      I hope arenanet listens on this one. The weapon itself is fun, but it has no really good use as a power weapon.

    Worth noting, the "prevent the next 3 boons" debuff counts each stack of Might or Stability seperately, which weakens it greatly. Especially with how many skills provide 3+ stacks of might as a side effect.

      Wow ok thx for the information because that makes this cool unique feature really bad. It needs at least to stop the next boon as hole stacks otherwise might will just always counter it tentimes.

    Sigh. This should have been either pure condi or support. Or maybe a hybrid of the two. That's the only 2 niche weapon usage Necro is missing. Melee condi. And/or proper support with healing or boons or whatever.
    This is just more of the same Reaper stuff, just more gimmicky and less effective.

      Spear feels like dual swords v2. Still has a lifesteal they're trying to force onto it and stealing power budget from places that matter. Still has a gap closer because necros are too slow in the mobility creep meta. Still has a

    Someone at Anet really hating on Necro upkeep skills
    Scourge shades - can technically have 3 up at one time, but since alac scourge came out that is only a pipe dream now.
    Spear comes out, can't keep up shards to save its life.
    That dev really needs someone to pull them aside and go wth man?

    Id say extend the shards by 5 seconds and add a life force muktiplyer to the 2 skill and balance a dos drop from greatsword with a faster life force generation.
    Imo the rest of the kit seems great, it just needs numbers tuned.
    Also idk if I like precasting 5 into the teleport. Thats a really powerful effect to give 0 reaction time to dodge.

    I feel like the AA needs to be 0.5s throughout to feel even remotely better than using GS, and have 1s Bleed added throughout, and 1.5s Poison instead of the Chill on the third in the chain, and inceease its Life Force to 10%.
    Perforate could then have a 0.25s Chill per Shard to add condi synergy; replace the Daze on Addle with 0.5s/2s Fear; replace Isolate's Chill with Cripple and Vuln with two stacks of 3s Torment; replace the Might on Extirpate with 1s Resistance per target struck.
    That makes a true hybrid weapon rather than trying to shoehorn GS onto a condi build or Staff onto a power build, and does things the others don't do rather than just more of the same...

    Reminds me of how you use axe. You pull axe out for its 1 skill burst, shroud rotation, then axe burst, then switch back to your real weapon. This would probably be used a similar way, just for gap closing with some burst in pvp.

    Ok so it wasn't just me that thought that the necro spear was not a PvE weapon but maybe I try it in PvP when it is out.
    And the condi reaper thing makes me sad because it got nuked some years ago and the dmg got cut by around 40-50% IF I remember right it never got touched after that. Condi reaper was just a fun build that had just the frost bleed and nothing else that base necro didn't do.

    Its remarkable, how Warrior's dagger 3 was copied, improved, and sloted onto Necro's spear 3...
    I still don't know how to feel about it.

    From what I have learned: This weapon is only good until the target reaches 50% health. After that greatsword beats it by lengths.. However dagger/sword is still better then spear in almost every regard so it's questionable to use it. D/S has massive amounts of lifeforce, selfhealing from skills 2 and 4 and it's damage keeps up nicely. GS has insane damage and utility with skills 2-5. The only thing D/S+GS is missing is mobility and for that you can just replace the mainhand dagger into a sword which is a small DPS-loss but you get a big mobility skill on 3 and your 1+2 are ranged now. In my testing I had a max of 29k while D/S+GS were 25-32k & depending on enemy hp.

    Spot on. Imo the big issue is that spear’s identity is just wayyyy to close to greatsword. So much so that these two weapons will start contesting for the same spots. The chill on spear is very nice, but maybe also give it a bit of torment and/or bleed to make it viable as a hybrid/condi melee weapon for other especs. Where it is now it will forever be either a worse greatsword or cause gs to be a worse spear. I really do hope they redesign spear while they still can.

    I used sword/focus, spear in marauder gear and it felt fine, but a bit lack luster, I do agree it'd have been more fun if it were condi focused but it's fine. I really liked the thief spear skills the most with the combo skill effect and being the damage was based in condi, the playstyle lined up with axe/dagger and gave a lot of movement to an already mobile profession. Maning a necro atm but pretty sure I'll be switching up in Janthir wilds.

    I'm no expert, I watch these types of vids just for the fun of it but I'd like to see a link between shards and life force generation. Have that feeling of building up the shards, using skills that generate more LF/shard, spending the shards then popping into Shroud.

    Weird that isnt a melee condi weapon. Why would they make a weaker greatsword? Atleast the skill's design aren't flawed at first glance and doesnt feel bad playing with it, so only numbers and adjustments are needed i guess.

    Regarding Spear 2: As PvP Player damage is great, but traiding sustain for damage? Count me in!

      If you manage to time it just right, yes. Difficult to do, given the long cast time and 4 second duration. That said, it will only reduce his might stacks from 25 to 22. Not really anything to care about.

    ArenaNet has a consistent problem in overestimating how powerful utility is for Necro, and nerfing their raw damage because of it.

    I didn't see you mention this, but skill 4 recharges skill 2 when you teleport. Not sure if they changed this when you recorded the video.

      Which is another weird synergy. Your gap closer refreshes a melee ranged skill. And since 2 is a shard spender, 2 4 2 seems suboptimal compared to 2 4 building some shards and then 2 again, but 2 has a short enough CD it would probably already be off CD by the time you did this? Is this to give you a reason to use 4 when you're already in melee range? Is it because the devs always expect you to follow 4 with 2 so it makes sure 2 is off cd for you? Is 2 4 2 supposed to be the burst before you weapon swap or shroud?

      @@badluckprophet9103 Nah, it's not weird at all, you just have to think of the weapon in terms of PvP, sadly: as Muk said, the intent is for you to go 4-5-4-3-2 (not even touching 1), so you generate as many shards as possible with 4, 5 and 3, and then you spend them all with 2 for a huge CC and burst of damage (and if the victim somehow survived all that you could also add shouts to the mix as well, as he also said). And if all that it's not enough, then after that we begin talking about Shroud and weapon swap and everything else.

    I totally agree that it's just worse GS and I don't really understand why they put the low health dmg there when they know that it'll directly compete with GS. Im fine with it being power weapon even though I wished for condi or support spear for necro but I am not a fan of it directly compete with GS

      Mine doesnt have the chance to receive any dust particles I use it every day expecially for crafting mats for crafting ascended gear pieces or ascended weapons. Ye crafting alot of gears is bad but crafting all types of legendary weapons, gear pieces, runes, sigils and one relic is even more time consuming, and I dont have that much gold or time, but even if I had the time and gold I would still prefer to invest 20 mins and around 50 gold per item than investing 2k gold and months of farming for legendary gear pieces or weapons. The price for convenience is way too high, expecially considering that the stats is the same.

      @@huna7a Legendary gear has always and will always be something for players to do when they've done everything else. Or for people who like to play the TP game. Honestly a legendary is just more bag spaces and transmutation stones. Though I do like mine for when I get curious about how a full Seraph stat set would work with some crazy build idea I've come up with. Can also be fun to try out a new stat set when an expac adds them and you don't want to have to grind up a bunch of a new map currency to try it. Not that I see many new stat sets in the future.

    I am very disappointed with spears.
    Necro spear absolutely should have been a condi weapon or a support weapon.
    Not *yet another* power weapon.
    Especially when it is just a shittier version of a power weapon we already have.
    None of the professions have really blown me away with their spear uses.
    It would have been cool if the Professions that can use shields got a 1H spear.
    Spear + Shield is such an aesthetic XD

    Don't see it mentioned here, but exiting shroud also resets your Isolate, the throw/teleport that resets your 2. Someone at ANET gets a high whenever adding thief-bursts to professions, and was so excited to give a shadowstep to Necro they skipped right over 2H condi, or 2H support, but really, Necro itself needs revising and shaking for the same reason Engi Shortbow failed. How do you add a new weapon when all the options exist and have been balanced already? How does Necro 2H-support, without blowing out damage? What is it supposed to sacrifice, when it's traits don't support, support? I wish they'd make "lifeforce gain" it's own mechanic, not just as a way to enter shroud, and make spear more like a 2H dagger, generating insane lifeforce, to power traits that'd want that, rather than just another weapon who swaps into shroud for big damage off cooldown.

    Naaaw, you are right here. Honestly it is a bit of a less powerful greatsword.
    I main minions necro, and have alts reaper bleed and heal alac scourge.
    So far from what I have seen though, it could be use for those that wish more life steal and maybe just use minions as their main focus, but other than that, it won't really deliver much more than that yet. Maybe if they add some poison or maybe free teleport on the throw ability, like choose were to throw the spear and hit an area instead one target, this could add some extra flare to it.
    As for life force generation, maybe they should add to 2 skill that, depending how many shards you spend.
    And if the spear is more of a pvp weapon, then maybe they could change the timers of the shards buff on pve to be better atleast, so to keep the pvp more active as they wished it to be, perhaps

    Yeah as Reaper Main kinda disappointed with the Spear really hoped for a GS alternative and sure it is fun to play but does like 25% less dmg and like 200% less Lifeforce regen so for now exactly 0 reason to ever use the Spear instead of any other weapon due to the lifeforce problem eventhough it may be stronger than others that just feels like to big of a drawback to me to ever consider if they don't buff the hell out of it so i hope for that but maybe someone will figure out a new competitive build to what we currently have.
    Edit: I honestly also would've been fine if Spear was Condi or Support that way it atleast would be usefull for something in PvE.

      Preach. I was really hoping for a replacement for greatsword because I'm really sick of using it (in no small part thanks to its slow as fuck animations, regardless of damage done) since it was announced the spear was going to be a power weapon... but alas, with those numbers and so terrible sustain, that dream is dead in the water if they don't tweak them before the expansion launches.

    I honestly believe that they should just rework old weapons rather than adding more problems with new weapons. Ele's spear should be incorporated into staff. Ranger's spear is basically unusable because of it's ambush mechanic and revealed debuff. Warrior's spear is also a dud. Why use a long range weapon almost all of your utilities are in melee range. And even if we want to make a range berserker, they should also fix rifle skills as well.

    all I wanted with spears is them to just ahve the underwater movesets but on land, I didnt wnat these new animations and effects that just block everyone from seeing anythign and everything and have shards/combo counters that STILL DOTN HAVE A UI ELEMENT and because of the massive blinding aoe efects you cant even see how many you have -.-
    worst part abotu spears is they feel like anet threw a load of stuff at a wall and didnt thimk about what roll the weapons should fill, they made them in a vacume and ddint look at what other weapons do. sure not every weapon needs to be viable for every type of content but these just feel like they ddint bother to see what nich needs filling, so we now have a worse greatsword because they didnt try and have the spear fill a different roll than greatsword.

    I have a feeling there's going to be a mastery line that buffs the spear further. Aside from Mesmer, the spear seems not as good as other choices, and I can't help but think this is on purpose.

      Man, that's going to be a weird mastery line then. Every spear is sub par in different ways. How could you make necro spear good, but also fix vindi spear? And how would that fix engi spear?

      @manslaughterinc.9135 I don't think it will necessarily 'fix' any of them, just add some other buff, perhaps PVE only, that will make them worthwhile.

      More likely they may add, down the line, another function to a trait somewhere in each profession so that “in addition to its current functionality…..spear skill(s) blah blah blah”
      However I think they are trying to not need that trait integration by baking in these extra skill interactions and buffing skills from the rotation used. In my opinion this complexity just needs to be more rewarding (when executed correctly) than another weapon that fills the same kind of purpose: power damage,condi damage, support, utility, or a hybrid

      @@torreyrg42 I mean... to your point the mirage spear ambush adds a +10% damage buff to the mirage for something like 10 seconds after using it? Maybe necros gets a trait in the future that every lifesteal proc adds +1% damage up to 10% for a limited time? Or they double down on shards as a new resource for necro to be gained and used by other weapons or traits?
      I guess there could be a weird mastery line where "Using your spear's unique mechanic" meaning shards/clarity/crushing abyss/etc. would do something for you.

      Untamed teleport didn't allow for any counterplay. Dodge the thrown spear, and Necro can't go in on you.

    It‘s disappointing that ANet still designs and then balances Necro around PvP, rather than introducing mechanics like boons on enemies to corrupt into PvE.

    I thought the rip boons would make this op but i guess doing no damage is a good way to balance it. Why make people pay to access a new weapon only to make it so weak? None of these spears strike me as interesting so far

    why this even exist ???? what is place for this weaker greatsword in game ??? If main focus was pvp why ???? pvp is not balanced in this game anyway and even for that I don't see anything that you want over old weapons for pvp.

      Not everyone plays with the highest dps weapon , some have more utility and movement as in the ability to port on a target 1200 away.

Just shows lazy ass desing as normal from anet when it could be much more better whit little changes. Your argument is basically because not all enjoy using car so new car from let's say BMW should be pedal car and because its different than normal car no1 can argue its stupid and should not be main new big thing even if that pedal car as new shiny break system.

      @@student76543 but that is not problem with spear its basically bike when you expect get car there is just no reason for it exist atm other than showing new brake system from analogy. It would be so different if it was utility weapon like staff or something else than freaking low tier greatsword, but no its just cheap copy of greatsword and its suppose to new big thing while no1 would care and forget about it exist if it was just some random normal patch addition. Main thing about trying hard criticism about this thing is that anet would change and use they brain not most of player base just accept things like next "suppose new thing" is just copy of old that they sell to sheeps that accept everything
