But at the end of the movie, Darth Vader renounces his ways and he becomes a jedi again... I thought that was the whole point of the Title (Return of the Jedi), along with the fact that Luke has returned..
yeah if you have the remastered version of the film on dvd. lucas put in hayden at the end, i dont know why he did, but i guess it made more sense to him hope that helps. hell there might be a vid clip up on here too
In the entire comments section, no one answered the dude's question? Okay. As I understand it, the reason Hayden appears as young Anakin as a Force Ghost at the end of ROTJ was the idea that only the GOOD side of Anakin, Anakin when he was on the light side of the Force - passes on into the Force. 'He ceased to be Anakin Skywalker and became Darth Vader......' So it's only 'Anakin,' that passes on into the Force. NOT Darth Vader. It's slightly muddled though because before he dies in Luke's arms, he had come back to the light side. Also, another reason is now that we had seen what Anakin looked like in the prequels, seeing Sebastian Shaw may have been confusing for some people. As to that stare, he probably wasn't given much direction. I agree. He should have been smiling, not glaring. I don't mind Hayden's inclusion in ROTJ. I'm all for anything that helps link the PT with the OT more closely.
It's also dumb because old Anakin sky walker is the one who repents and sees the error of his ways. Young Anakin is the one that kills kids... sorry, kills younglings. Makes no sense at all.
@@desoliver9712 - Technically, no. He had already slid to the dark side and been knighted Darth Vader when he killed the younglings. So you could say that wasn't 'Anakin' at all. Lucas uses the name ANAKIN to refer to the GOOD part of who he was.
Anakin wasn't all that good or heroic before he officially became Darth Vader though. Luke was a whiny kid, but he still had a sweetness to him, and a believable heroic side. Anakin on the other hand, was a real a-hole from the start of Attack of the Clones. Imagine if Luke had turned to the dark side, or Han Solo became some evil bastard, now that would have been tragic. For us Original fans, this is how we imagined Anakin, a real hero, a sweet kid like Luke, maybey whiny, but still a hero, and then he turns. Anakin was only sweet as a little kid in the first movie, but I bet even Hitler was a nice little boy. Anakin as we meet him in Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith is a punk ass the whole time, and his friendship with Obi-Wan has none of the substance of Luke and Han. They barely even seem like friends. But whatever, I know there's a generation of people that loves the Prequels, so fuck it. Like what you like.
@@John-ct9zs - Anakin was incredibly heroic during the Clone Wars! Exceptionally so, in fact! Even Mace Windu acknowledges Anakin is incredible in the Revenge Of The Sith novelisation. Capable of impossible tasks! To answer your questions, Anakin was arrogant because he KNEW he was that good. He'd saved Jedi asses a thousand times over. The boy was an amazing Padawan! The long running joke was Anakin has saved Obi-Wan's life a hundred times over. When Obi-Wan, a Master, would fail, Anakin would come through.
I wonder if Smith would remaster 'Clerks.' for the 20th anniversary. Maybe he'll replace Jeff Anderson (Randal) with himself, or add a new musical number just after the hockey scene lol.
The way I see it as is, when anakin turned to the dark side he died. So when he turned back to the light his younger form took over is it came back to life as he died officially thus making his force ghost his younger self
@@lildominator2953 The Jedi religion is such bullshit. You can kill a bunch of little kids, kill tons of other people, oversee the construction of planet destroying Death Star, but if you repent with your dying breath well then you can be a handsome young cool looking force ghost. While Obi-Wan and Yoda who resisted all their lives have to go on as old fart looking ghosts for all eternity.
he wasnt but lucas decided to put him in the dvd special edition remastered version. if you havent seen that version its understandable for your comment. but in that version hayden is in the film right next to obi wan and yoda, and not a older version of anikin but young when he was still a jedi and not turned sith....and they never refered hayden playing luke. and.....hayden is skywalker, or else luke wouldnt be a skywalker remember
I have mixed feelings about the ending. The remastered was the first I saw as I hadnt seen the originals before the new ones. So as a first impression it was pretty cool, but then after seeing the original version I kinda felt bad for the dude that got his only scene Jipped out from under him. On the other hand I can see why he did it. It was probably for younger fans who had started the series from episode 1 and watched them in chronological order. Just my thoughts anyway.
The only reason I can think of for putting Hayden Christensen in, is that the blue ghost is a projection of Anakin Skywalker before he turned bad. Still if you create a masterpiece portrait, you don't go back 20 years later and paint new style clothes on the person in the painting.
By 2005 he should have known that Kevin Smith would side with George Lucas and the Prequels. I might have asked Kevin Smith this question in 1999, not knowing his answer and thinking he would be young cool Gen Xer Clerk's Kevin Smith, but by 2005 it was clear where Smith stood on these films. He was NOT going to criticize. Some people don't remember, but there was mixed reaction to the first X-Men movie in 2000, nowhere near as bad as Phantom Menace, but there were people who had issues. Kevin Smith immediately came out and defended X-men and director Bryan Singer, the way he defended the Prequels and George Lucas. So even though Kevin Smith is a Gen Xer that grew up with the Original Star Wars, he was a young filmmaker by the time of the Prequels and was going to always side with the people who made those movie since he was in the industry himself.

sometimes ya gotta just leave it alone..I can see the reason though for the change. as Obi-Wan said when he became Vader Anakin ceased to exist, with Vader dead Anakin redeemed blah blah, ok but sometimes when a movie is done...ya gotta just leave it alone and let it stand as is.
you are right the guy who asked the question did think he was funny ,it is typical of younger college kids that think they are so smart and so clever when really they know nothing about life . asking a kevin smith about a scene in a movie that he never had a part in. i could tell the guy was younger becuase of his ignorance . it was a smart ass question and kevin handled it well although the kid thought he was being clever.
Cannot blame themah78 for the shakyness of his camera, because if a person was asking a weird, not making sense, and "less of an importance", kind of question.... then anyone can pretty much laugh about it. Seriously, I mean ANYONE can tell it was just a really weird, long question.
since darth vader was burned when he was young the old man in the original cut of return of the jedi would have never existed he would be horribly scarred so he had to put the young one in the new version just to make sense-i still dont like it though
Dude, we are talking about a Force ghost, not a physical person. I don't recall getting the memo that said "Force ghosts must look exactly how they were before getting scarred". They might as well look exactly like they were supposed to be at the time of their death but without physical imperfections, which is how it was originally. Vader look like he would have looked as an adult if he had no scars.
That was 90s young guy indie filmmaker Kevin Smith, who made fun of movies in Clerks. it may be his movie, but that only covers him legally, not ethically. The two men who wrote a new hope and empire respectively are dead. Don't there visions deserve to be respected? The fact that they defaulted to him in a legal sense doesnt give him the right to shit on the life's work of others. Smith's position here is weak,
how is it you make that association with kevin smith and then going on the killing of the innocent? your rant makes no sense sir/maam. so before you go off saying some random bullshit make sure some one is listening and just laugh, kevin may not be your comedy but he is to many others and its no as juvenile as you think, so just...wait why did you watch the video in the first place if you dont like him?
I love that look of contempt on Smith's face as he listens to the question. xD
But at the end of the movie, Darth Vader renounces his ways and he becomes a jedi again... I thought that was the whole point of the Title (Return of the Jedi), along with the fact that Luke has returned..
He reminds me of a bigger Robert Downey jr, lol
Yeah, fatter, less cool Robert Downey Jr, but yes you're onto something there.
Lucas said he did it because the physical real image of Anakin died when he became Vader s it makes since to show him young.
Ah you don't have to insult the guy. Go-bots are the Kmart Transformers.
the guy took smith's photo if you hear closely you can hear his camera snap, so yeah, thats the reason why everyone is laughing
Even the camera shook with laughter.
oh my god, i love that he just said "shank force" as a verb

No more drugs for that fan 😆
That was a great ANSWER...
Oh.. I only have the pre-digitally remastered version of the trilogy. Sorry.
The ship type that they used to escape Naboo in The Phantom Menace
But for some reason Obi Wan was still old in his ghost Force form.

HANK YOU!!! He sounds like he just saw the trilogy like last night. lol
Lol 3 years ago, but I thought it was Luke returning to Tatooine to rescue Han.

Careful Kevin, don't give George any ideas.
holy shit...that question is just like...beyond anything O_o
that guy must've been fucking high out of his mind haha
What did he say at 0:53?
"if you could just hold..still." It's a reference to something that happened right before the video started.

@macspectrum I'm not a defender, but do not talk about grammar when you forgot to finish your first sentence.
@SDZer0 your lack of knowledge yet still comments amazes me
Hayden Christensen, Anakin Skywalker, is in episodes I,II,II and not return of the jedi. Smith references Christensen as being in return of the jedi
