A look at how Kevin Smith takes his responses to a question in "An Evening with Kevin Smith 2: Evening Harder" and puts his rants as an act in his movie "Clerks 2"
I was rolling on the ground crying with my sides in pain and we had to pause the movie when we saw this scene in Clerks. Now I saw where it really comes from and I think I have to go to the hospital.
"I make the least cinematic movies imaginable" I love how Kevin Smith can be so self-depreciating at times but not offensive. He just says it like fact.
I love both series... Don't care about '' Which one is the Trilogy ! '' I enjoyed them both and will continue enjoy them both whenever I see them. This is all fun jokes. No need to take it too seriously. I respect the ''Original'' Star Wars and Tolkien + Peter Jacksons combined brilliance.
I find this amusing because a quote from the second Matrix film - "Denial is the most predictable of all human responses" said by The Architect - sums this attitude up pretty well. The first sequel to the Matrix had a handful of great scenes. The second sequel was a complete mess though.
True I know he is indulging in hyperbole but the humour definitely has a barb in it. Smith has made this reference regarding LOTR too many times for it to be a purely light heareted off the cuff remark. He obviously regards it as a somewhat clever observation but I'm just saying anyone can reduce anything to a mere constituent for any movie. I mean the Godfather could be reduced to 'people with guns talking quietly then loudly' but you would obviously lose a lot in that interpretation.
I like to imagine that the guy with his hand up at 3:05 has had his hand up since before the beginning of this clip, and still had it up after the end.
I remember LoTR movies as well as Pirates of Caribbean, I remember I enjoyed them while watching. BUT I don't remember myself willing to watch them again ever.
which flick of the trilogy was the best? i havn't seen lord of the rings. After i saw clerks 2, i didn't wanna see it, but i read peter jackson's biography and now i want to. hehe
Even to this day the original Star Wars movie trilogy is The Trilogy to me....And this is coming from someone who wasn't even alive in the 80's and 90's 😅
That ROTK comment was supposed to be posted 1st followed by the 2nd ended w/ "Nuff Said", but didn't happen that way due to crash issues w/ my IE browser, so consider the 2nd comment as sort of a 'P.S.' to the "Nuff said" comment. -r78
@killahbudd i think its the scale of the story. i know this video makes it seam incredible simple but thats only if you ignore the massive themes that run through the film. it was also one of those 'set a new standard for visual effects" films for the technology used in cgi. which was best used in the battle scenes which were epic to me. there are alot of reasons why it could be consided epic. why do you think its not?
I'm in the Star Wars camp on this one, I was going to say it's the original 'The Trilogy' but according to Wiki it isn't... :/ as we all know wiki is the oracle and cannot be disputed...oh wait.
@MintNarcissus I respect what he said, because he was brave to say it. Because during that time, a lot of people weren't brave enough to put down "Lord of the Rings." But he not only publicly criticized them, he made a whole scene about his opinion in "Clerks 2." Lol!
@squamish4244 People seem to forget that the LOTR movies were based upon Tolkien's novels, and stayed true to the source material (ie. more drama, less action sequences). I haven't made my mind up on which of the trilogies I stand behind yet, it's hard to choose given the massive time gap between them. I'll say this though - at least Jackson isn't planning on making a separate three mediocre films in the hopes of capitalising off of his success with the former three films.
@zxRAMBOzx Just about the beginning part of your comment; the original SW trilogy was low budget and was made much earlier so comparing visual effects isn't a strong argument. Star Wars is great and so is Lord of The Rings, if anyone should be accepting anything, it should be you accepting that both are great and not taking sides.
A lot of people loved zack and miri so that fact that you like it really doesnt matter since you not liking it really doesnt matter. he didnt like LOTR so he said something about it, the only difference between what you just did and he just did is that people give a fuck about what he has to say.
Jackie chan. The chinese guy who performs crazy stunts and intricate fight sequences. Are you asking who he is or questioning his relevancy to an epic fantasy movie?
I was rolling on the ground crying with my sides in pain and we had to pause the movie when we saw this scene in Clerks.
Now I saw where it really comes from and I think I have to go to the hospital.
I love "Lord Of The Rings." But I enjoy Kevin Smith's rants on "Lord of the Rings." It is priceless. :)
If LOTR is just about walking, then Jaws is just about fishing
"I make the least cinematic movies imaginable" I love how Kevin Smith can be so self-depreciating at times but not offensive. He just says it like fact.
“Which left me to be the PIMP of the Shire.” Lmao
The "fuckin A" part in the clerks 2 scene always baffled me lol
I love both series... Don't care about '' Which one is the Trilogy ! '' I enjoyed them both and will continue enjoy them both whenever I see them.
This is all fun jokes. No need to take it too seriously. I respect the ''Original'' Star Wars and Tolkien + Peter Jacksons combined brilliance.
i agree that Star Wars is "THE TRILOGY"
(even tho lotr was good, too)
May the Force be with you.
He has a way with words that you just have to love.
If Lord of the Rings is about walking, then Casablanca is just talking.
One of the Best scenes from the movie!
You just saved me about 9 hours of my life.
its funny how he talks bout frodo and same when him and jay in the movie were in the exact same situation ROFL
Smith says he can't act, but I think his delivery is funnier than in what's on the film.
He should have used that ending for Cop Out.
I think the Nolan Batman trilogy may have to take the spot once TDKR comes out.
The man who will put subs(English subs) in those vids will be just a king above all in here...!!!!!!!
It did have the coolest ending.
"Lets hunt some orc."
I actually can't even remember how the second one ended.
The Q&A session from London was before Clerks II, and he took this and put it in Clerks II
He put this almost verbatim in Clerks II
@Draconios1 That's the guy that wrote Clerks 2. So of course he told the story exactly how it went in Clerks 2. It's his lines.
I love the Rings, but this was classic.
Brilliant! =D
Clerks II rocked
Are you sure you weren't just imagining that? You naughty fellow.
that was one hell of a walk
I find this amusing because a quote from the second Matrix film - "Denial is the most predictable of all human responses" said by The Architect - sums this attitude up pretty well.
The first sequel to the Matrix had a handful of great scenes. The second sequel was a complete mess though.
OMG I thought I was the only one! My sister showed me Fellowship on DVD and I totally fell asleep half way through. Wow...
I'm going with the first one, but thank you on including the third, The Godfather was the best to in my books as well.
KEVIN SMITH IS THE GREATEST DIRECTOR AND ACTOR!
TOO TRUE!
the guy is a comedian! also a genius and a awesome director. I dont understand ppl who comment him about being wrong. Its just his oppinion...
True I know he is indulging in hyperbole but the humour definitely has a barb in it. Close. He said "insane glorious bastard."
I love LOTR, but that was hilarious.
the star wars trilogy is the one and only trilogy... no one can ever change that...
and clerks 2 was about clerks in a restaurant about 90% of the time, but it is the funniest comedy of all time. It has to be.
There's only one return and that's OF THE JEDI.
i use that phrase to this day, "brick"
Star wars will forever be known as the triliogy.
i think before. im pretty sure this is from evening 2, which was released some time between strikes back and clerks II.
i think. i could be wrong.
Love Kevin Smith. That's all...
i agree!
@KeenProductions Sorry, I just looked at the description, got it wrong
Exactly.
im with Randall all the way he is soooo right!!!!
he just basically did randal's monolougue from clerks 2
was the interview done before clerks 2?
He's not a filmmaker, he's a comedian.
totally true......
i want a ghost dad trilogy
Weren't there like...5 parts?
sooo funny:D:D the force is storng with him
was this stand up before or after Clerks 2
@scraggly2 he wrote, directed and acted in Clerks 2!
At least Frodo wasn't making out with his sister.
is this from "evening with kevin smith"?
It is three parts!
lmao now I know how got that scene from clerks 2
which flick of the trilogy was the best?
i havn't seen lord of the rings. After i saw clerks 2, i didn't wanna see it, but i read peter jackson's biography and now i want to. hehe
there will only ever be ONE trillogy...one to rule them all
It's great to be a fan of Kevin Smith, Star Wars, and Lord of the Rings. Now all people need to do is get a sense of humor.
Even to this day the original Star Wars movie trilogy is The Trilogy to me....And this is coming from someone who wasn't even alive in the 80's and 90's 😅

-r78
that would be the fucking funniest ending!!
now i know he used these jokes in clerks and i know he wrote them, but did this video come first or did the movie come first
that's just how he speaks
@scraggly2 he wrote it... its his monolauge. Did you notice that its silent bob in the begining
@killahbudd
i think its the scale of the story. i know this video makes it seam incredible simple but thats only if you ignore the massive themes that run through the film.

I like Lord Of The Rings, but Kev is absolutely right on all points.
Damn right mate, LOTR forever.
@KeenProductions no i'm saying that he used the same monolouge in this and clerks 2. lol
even the fuckin trees walked :D
This was before Clerks II
This rant is just the script to Clerks 2
"Three movies about fucking Walken."
girl on the right at 2:46 is obviously having a good time
@crazy234lazy well Randall was written for kevin smith originally but then jeff anderson tried out for the part and he got it.
Seriously that ending wouldn't make me go WTF just happened?!?.
My reaction would've been more like "I KNEW IT!!!".
star wars is THE trilogy but i think back to the future gets overlooked in this debate
Nah, I liked Clerks 2, so I watched the trilogy clip from that movie, which then brought me here.
I'm in the Star Wars camp on this one, I was going to say it's the original 'The Trilogy' but according to Wiki it isn't... :/ as we all know wiki is the oracle and cannot be disputed...oh wait.
I concur. You stole what I was gonna say.
... jersey girl ... thank you.
@MintNarcissus I respect what he said, because he was brave to say it. Because during that time, a lot of people weren't brave enough to put down "Lord of the Rings." But he not only publicly criticized them, he made a whole scene about his opinion in "Clerks 2." Lol!

@Hunkola hell fuck yeh!!!
when i saw fellowship in theaters i ended up fucking passing out halfway through cause all it really was was walking
@zxRAMBOzx Just about the beginning part of your comment; the original SW trilogy was low budget and was made much earlier so comparing visual effects isn't a strong argument. the lord of the rings:or how i walked to mordor

Do you guys know he directed Clerks 2? So why are you saying he stole it from Clerks 2? It is his fucking movie.
WORD only ONE TRILOGY!!!
"fucken aye"...hahaha
good trilogy
Jackie chan. The chinese guy who performs crazy stunts and intricate fight sequences. Are you asking who he is or questioning his relevancy to an epic fantasy movie?
Fuckin' Aye
What I could never figure out is why they didn't just ride the big bird over the volcano and drop the fucking ring in.
