By 2005 he should have known that Kevin Smith would side with George Lucas and the Prequels. I might have asked Kevin Smith this question in 1999, not knowing his answer and thinking he would be young cool Gen Xer Clerk's Kevin Smith, but by 2005 it was clear where Smith stood on these films. He was NOT going to criticize. Some people don't remember, but there was mixed reaction to the first X-Men movie in 2000, nowhere near as bad as Phantom Menace, but there were people who had issues. Kevin Smith immediately came out and defended X-men and director Bryan Singer, the way he defended the Prequels and George Lucas. So even though Kevin Smith is a Gen Xer that grew up with the Original Star Wars, he was a young filmmaker by the time of the Prequels and was going to always side with the people who made those movie since he was in the industry himself.

In the entire comments section, no one answered the dude's question? Okay. As I understand it, the reason Hayden appears as young Anakin as a Force Ghost at the end of ROTJ was the idea that only the GOOD side of Anakin, Anakin when he was on the light side of the Force - passes on into the Force. 'He ceased to be Anakin Skywalker and became Darth Vader......' So it's only 'Anakin,' that passes on into the Force. NOT Darth Vader. It's slightly muddled though because before he dies in Luke's arms, he had come back to the light side. Also, another reason is now that we had seen what Anakin looked like in the prequels, seeing Sebastian Shaw may have been confusing for some people. As to that stare, he probably wasn't given much direction. I agree. He should have been smiling, not glaring. I don't mind Hayden's inclusion in ROTJ. I'm all for anything that helps link the PT with the OT more closely.

@@desoliver9712 - Technically, no. He had already slid to the dark side and been knighted Darth Vader when he killed the younglings. So you could say that wasn't 'Anakin' at all. Lucas uses the name ANAKIN to refer to the GOOD part of who he was.
Anakin wasn't all that good or heroic before he officially became Darth Vader though. Luke was a whiny kid, but he still had a sweetness to him, and a believable heroic side. Anakin on the other hand, was a real a-hole from the start of Attack of the Clones. Imagine if Luke had turned to the dark side, or Han Solo became some evil bastard, now that would have been tragic. For us Original fans, this is how we imagined Anakin, a real hero, a sweet kid like Luke, maybey whiny, but still a hero, and then he turns. Anakin was only sweet as a little kid in the first movie, but I bet even Hitler was a nice little boy. Anakin as we meet him in Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith is a punk ass the whole time, and his friendship with Obi-Wan has none of the substance of Luke and Han. They barely even seem like friends. But whatever, I know there's a generation of people that loves the Prequels, so fuck it. Like what you like.
@@John-ct9zs - Anakin was incredibly heroic during the Clone Wars! Exceptionally so, in fact! Even Mace Windu acknowledges Anakin is incredible in the Revenge Of The Sith novelisation. Capable of impossible tasks! To answer your questions, Anakin was arrogant because he KNEW he was that good. He'd saved Jedi asses a thousand times over. The boy was an amazing Padawan! The long running joke was Anakin has saved Obi-Wan's life a hundred times over. When Obi-Wan, a Master, would fail, Anakin would come through.

since darth vader was burned when he was young the old man in the original cut of return of the jedi would have never existed he would be horribly scarred so he had to put the young one in the new version just to make sense-i still dont like it though
Dude, we are talking about a Force ghost, not a physical person. I don't recall getting the memo that said "Force ghosts must look exactly how they were before getting scarred". They might as well look exactly like they were supposed to be at the time of their death but without physical imperfections, which is how it was originally. Vader look like he would have looked as an adult if he had no scars.

it may be his movie, but that only covers him legally, not ethically. The two men who wrote a new hope and empire respectively are dead. Don't there visions deserve to be respected? The fact that they defaulted to him in a legal sense doesnt give him the right to shit on the life's work of others. Smith's position here is weak,
