Fantastic video! and some truly incredibly climbs in there. Looks like you got pretty great weather throughout as well. I did a S-N of Japan earlier in the year with a couple of buddies (just uploaded my own video), and the countryside climbs through the Kiso Valley (Tsumago-juku etc.) was my favourite part. An epic place to go for a ride, and the food feels so well deserved. All the best

Beautifully shot Leonard! I remember getting emotional arriving at lake Haruna being an Initial D fan for many years. Did you stop at the 33rd corner of the Irohazaka 😄? Next time definitely take the Usui pass between Nagano and Gunma with it’s 182 turns! One of my highlights cycling across Japan.

There are some great rides here around kansai as well, around kobe osaka, and even across the bay to awajishima. You won't find the heights of Nagano, but the landscape is more human and cultured. I am surprised you did not go up Norikura, the highest road in Japan, but I guess it probably too far east for your itinerary.

I don't have that here in Singapore 🥲 Norikura was on my list but the roads weren't opened in May. I'll definitely do that next time! Thanks for the suggestion! @@Funlady8890 hey! Apart from the driving side being different to the US, you should be fine! It's very safe and I find the drivers to be very mannered in the countryside. It rains a lot, so, IMO, plan for the shoulder seasons during spring and autumn to lower the chances of rainy days. Lastly, I was q worried about black bears and giant hornets. I avoid spending time during dawn and dusk in deep forested areas. There are studies that suggest that hornets are more aggressive towards darker clothings, so I avoided that as well. Hope that helps haha! 😊
Wow that's so amazing. Last year I took the bike only train from Tokyo (bbbase) and rode in Chiba. The year before I did the shimanami kaido. I need to check out the Shibu pass. Question... How was the driving in Japan... especially on highway with the etc card ?
@@sanynava hey Sany! Nice one! I've heard so much about Shimanami Kaido! Driving was great! Even the furthest location was always just 2H+ away. Lots of rest stops along the way as well. The rental came with the ETC card. Seamless but very expensive. It costs me SGD$200++ for the entire trip if I recall correctly.

@@Funlady8890 hey! Apart from the driving side being different to the US, you should be fine! It's very safe and I find the drivers to be very mannered in the countryside.
It rains a lot, so, IMO, plan for the shoulder seasons during spring and autumn to lower the chances of rainy days.
Lastly, I was q worried about black bears and giant hornets. I avoid spending time during dawn and dusk in deep forested areas. There are studies that suggest that hornets are more aggressive towards darker clothings, so I avoided that as well.

Wow that's so amazing. Last year I took the bike only train from Tokyo (bbbase) and rode in Chiba. The year before I did the shimanami kaido. I need to check out the Shibu pass. Question... How was the driving in Japan... especially on highway with the etc card ?

Driving was great! Even the furthest location was always just 2H+ away. Lots of rest stops along the way as well.
The rental came with the ETC card. Seamless but very expensive. It costs me SGD$200++ for the entire trip if I recall correctly.
@zwiftlegs that's awesome. I might do a rental next time , just need to get used to right hand drive 😂
