Seeing Lightning Bolt's score makes me wanna see a top 10 "most powerful cards in magic" or something along those lines, in which you rank the cards with the highest scores amongst the top 10s you ever did.
@@dariush314159 Looking at a three year old video, the highest scoring card was Ancestral Recall with 622points. Who knows how much it gained in that time
Bolt might as well be a modal spell. Opponent has a creature? It's removal. Clear board, send it to the face. Attacking or blocking, it can mess up the opponent's combat math.
I love this idea. I did the opposite and made the creatures the "burn" instead in Mardu. Players of Incadescent Soulstoke, Thundering Awakener, Spark Elemental, Lightning Serpent, Hellspark Elemental, Ball Lightning, Lightning Skelemental and Spark Trooper. Desperate ritual to help get Incadescent down with 2 mana or Ball Lightning and to help put out Elemental Appeal if the game drags on.
@@GumballMachinery Thanks! I'd say give it a shot, all the lands are basic and it's probably my fastest 60 card deck. Whether it counts in Modern or just Legacy I haven't really gone over I just like the idea.
The only way the dread *Lightning Bolt* could ever be unseated is if all formats except Vintage banned it. That would probably slow it down enough to be passed. Eventually of course. XD
BURN BABY BURN, DISCO INFERNO! Man that song is good, almost as good as "Top 10 Vintage Cards (Minus Power 9)"! Man, that was almost as weak as Lightning Bolt is strong.
@@SpySappingMyKeyboard You would think, but nah. 3 years ago in a 'top 10 instants' list he did Ancestral Recall had 622 points. Already more than what lightning bolt has now 3 years later.

My old UA-cam got lost with my 3:22 old phone and so I forgot about your channel until recently and I’m so glad that I found it again. Thank you for the amazing content I’m glad to be back watching your videos.
Funny how the rules change for CMC of split cards (like fire//ice) stopped the interaction with isochron scepter but allowed it to interact favorably with cascade cards instead.
It would be interesting to see the top 10 spells that deal damage rather than specifically burn spells. Maybe non-creature spells or specifically instants/sorcery spells that deal damage. Kind of like a spell-slinger special.
I think it would be neat to see 'Top Ten MTG Cards' full stop. I know it would feature a lotta cards we have already seen, but something about the big numbers is fun for me to watch
seeing how safe lightning bolt is at the top spot, it makes me wonder, what would be the 10 safest cards to stay at the top position throughout the different lists.
Wasn't expecting to see shock get outclassed, but I suppose we do see a lot more 'Shock with set mecanic' style cards these days which causes shock to just be printed less.
The goblin suicide bomb (can't remember name) from early magic was so nasty. Made me stop playing one of my friends because he only played burn :D 5 damage to the face for the low cost of R + a goblin makes me very sad, very quickly.
Fire/Ice is the one card that was "buffed" by the rule change that Valki/Tibalt caused. PS: "Gut Shot for the win!" is my favorite tournament moment, ever.
I think the rule change you're referring to was caused by the interaction between Brain in a Jar and Breaking//Entering. You used to be able to cast it fused with the Brain on two counters and that was too busted even for modern.
I love how inexpensive all of these cards are, despite their raw power. It's always hilarious when someone running an expensive top-tier deck gets rolled by a bunch of cheap commons, and burn does that pretty regularly.
To put how strong Lightning Bolt is into perspective: most of this list is made of strictly worse and less efficient but slightly more flexible spells.
Sad that never being reprinted keeps Fireblast off of the list. It's definitely one of the best burn spells ever. What I wouldn't give for it to be legal in modern...
I fully expected to see Fireblast somewhere in the top 2. Fury should have been mentioned as part of the cards that can't be on this list as it is a fantastic card worth not, even following its ban.
Lightning bolt is just busted, but for some reason it doesn't bother me. It's just that iconic that it's basically integral to the game and red as a color.
(11:41) Did you put the wrong Card Kingdom price for Bonecrusher Giant there? I got a Bonecrusher Giant not too long ago for I think about 50 cents, and looking up this one on Card Kingdom myself, I see it priced at $1.29 for the regular version. There is a promotional one that's listed at $3.99, but I think it would make more sense if you showed the price for the cheapest variant of the card in most cases.
now that i look at it bonecrusher giant is kinda busted. you get a not so bad on the vanilla test creature WITH UPSIDE and a burn spell and you can cast both sides quiet easily. just damn
Okay, maybe I misunderstand new terminology, but doesn't 'exile' mean it's removed from play entirely? On Incinerate, it simply prevents regeneration, which should only mean that you can't save it from the graveyard if it's killed that turn. Or am I completely wrong?
I know it's a niche case, but Spikefield Hazard can also exile a planeswalker. I can't think of how that is super relevant, but exile is forever gone (for now), so it's pretty good.
@@kjmergen Apologies. If something goes to the graveyard, a player can always use recursion to get it back. But, if the card is exiled, for the most part it isn't coming back. There are corner cases where this isn't true, but by and large exile means the card is gone forever.
It was reprinted as a common in Modern Masters 2015. As far as Pauper is concerned, if a card was ever printed as a common, it's legal, even if it was printed at other rarities other times.
I only played Burn deck for 4/5 years and I heavily disagree with your list. I think I use 3/4 cards on your list, Obviously Lighting Bolt is #1, no discussion there. But thanks for the time you put into the vid.

I really like how Lightning Bolt has GAINED more points since the last video than the number 5 (and those lower, obviously) card had total!
And it would have been number 1 even solely on the basis of Modern points.
One of my favorite janky decks to play is "Bolt Tribal." It's basically just burn, but you replace all the creatures with even more burn spells. lol
We think alike! Except my version only uses cards with the word lightning in the name.
Mine is a commander deck that has 100 cards that all have lightning in the art… so hard to find lightning based ramp.

None of these can take out Teeka's Dragon. Kolghan's Command in theory can, but Teeka's Dragon isn't an artifact if you believe strongly enough.
One with the Stars, then?
Nothing can take out Teeka's Dragon!
Well by the time the dragon comes out your opponent probably already spent all of their removal so teeka's dragon technically has hexproof.
