Thank you for watching.
So many people just add everything to a pot and cook them. But it just isn’t the same. Thanks for showing how layers of deep flavor are developed by the stepwise cooking of the different ingredients. Yum. I’m soaking my beans now to enjoy this tomorrow.
Thanks
I was actually recently wondering why you don’t often see beans used in Indian cooking. Happy to see they are used since I love beans! Can’t wait to try this recipe!
They are very popular in Indian cooking but all them are the dried soaked overnight versions
Exactly 💯
Hi Chetna!!I made these Rajma using your recipe today!! Amazing taste and flavour. Everyone in my family loved it. Just one more suggestion!! Add a teaspoon of ghee to your rajma chawal and it will triple the taste of the whole meal…
Nice! you pulled out all the stops. I really like the 1 hour wait time at the end. One of the reasons this wait time works is that all the smells have time to clear from your senses.
Not a fan of kidney beans but still made it last night. It was amazing and changed my view on kidney beans ! Thank you ! Great recipe !😊
Made this today. Oh my god it’s amazing! Definitely worth converting a few bean haters! Definitely worth letting it sit for 2 hours at the end.
yeah
Love your Mom, Chetna! Would love to see you two cook together; you two should pick out the dish you'd like to make together.
Just made this and after waiting an hour to eat, it was delicious! I'll definitely be making it again. Affordable, healthy, and tasty! What a winner
Rajma is one of my favorites! I always make mine a day ahead to make the flavour develop. Love to see your Mum again!
I made this today and it turned out perfect! Absolutely delicious and the house smells wonderful. Thanks Chetna!
🙏😁
This is one of my favourite things to order from my local takeaway, but I’ve never been able to successfully recreate it at home! Thanks for the masterclass - I look forward to trying it, maybe over the long weekend.
Will go so well with that stuffed paratha recipe, lovely on a chilly evening 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻⭐️⭐️⭐️
How about a re-do of Mom's homemade garam masala?
So good to see your Mum back in the kitchen with you! Precious! Would love to see her making a few Indian sweets!
Would love some recipes for those veggies we get at the Indian store but don’t see in Western grocery stores so much. I’m always tempted by karela and mula and stuff but a bit intimidated because I don’t know how best to prepare them!
Great question. Please include vegetarian recipes also Gluten free 👍🏽
Great suggestion! I‘m always in awe when I see all those lovely veggies but even more intimidated 😄
Loved your mums sari x
I’ve been meaning to cook this for the longest time and I finally did. Dunno why mine came out tasting very similar to American Chilli. It was great tho, not gonna lie. Loved it.
Instructions are clear and I could do it so much thankyou
I made this, and it was fantastic! Even better the next day. I substituted paprika for the chili powder because I can't do too spicy, but it was flavorful anyway. Thank you so much for this recipe!
I just made this tonight. Mine turned out a little watery, but I think it was because I used too much water when cooking the beans. Otherwise it was delicious! It will be going into my regular dinner rotation.
yeah and yes if its too much water let it cook for a bit longer and then let it sit like I mentioned in the video
Brilliant demonstration of producing a delicious Punjabi recipe, Rajma. Great to see your lovely mum again 😊
Your cooking instructions are so wonderful thankyou
I always have 4-5 different kinds of dry beans in my pantry, but I rarely have dry red kidney beans because I don't mind canned kidney beans. But yours looked really good, and maybe much creamier than canned. Adding to the shopping list.

Love your Mom, Chetna! Would love to see you two cook together; you two should pick out the dish you'd like to make together.
so many beans in Indian food.
OMG, It's so awesome we got to meet your Mom. How exciting! YES PLEASE! We'd love to see her cook some dishes for everyone. That would be fantastic ! 😊❤🙏
Hi I’m absolutely positive this curry tastes delicious. Can’t wait to make it. Thanks for your tips! 😋😋
Lovely to see your Mum again Chetna. That Rajma looks awesome, got to try it but first to get the dried beans. Idli and srikand would be nice for Mum to show us. Take care and stay blessed.❤
Thank you so much for the masterclass! Can‘t wait to try it again. I have to admit, I once cooked a similar dish of yours with canned beans- really enjoyed it but I‘m sure next time it‘ll be even better ☺️
Hope you‘re having a lovely time with your family and I‘d love to see you cook together - it‘s always so much fun ❤ I‘m up for whatever you feel like - I already know I‘ll love it 😉
Can’t wait to get your new book! (Almost a little mean of you to announce it so early 😂)
Chetna!What can i say???!!
Am in the last 30mins of cooking this n it looks, smells n tastes DIVINE..
Chetna, great but try fresh kidney beans, it doesn't require so much time unlike Rajma secondly taste much better, the fresh kidney beans is available in the southern region of Karnataka ( The best and big variety) Doda and Himachal region....
Will try
love the recipe as usual but have to say the editing looks lovely as well :)
Hi Chetna, this is what I am making today from your ‘Healthy Indian Vegetarian’ book. I’m following the book but I’ve got one eye on your video to see what variations there are and especially for any of your fabulous extra tips. Next time I will use dried beans so i can compare the difference. I’m thinking that when using the tinned book version this is a brilliant quick store cupboard recipe as well as an exceptionally economic high protein meal and if i use the dried beans it makes it even cheaper still. A great way to eat nutritious food when managing your finances. Thank you for all that you do here on this channel 🥰
Thanks so much, hope you enjoyed it
You are so fortunate to cook for your Mom, Thats the part I enjoyed most.
please can you cook a green moong dahl recipe!!
My mom is from Jehlum Punjab Pakistan n rajma chawal are her n her family’s favorite food.
Tried your lovely Red kidney Beans Curry Chetna and it turned out super, the consistency was lovely,we all just loved it.
Now I am not leaving this Recepie, really delicious.
Thankyou beautiful Chetna.
My pleasure 😊
I'm glad that I found your channel! Your recipes are amazing and I love your spirit. Your mother is wonderful!
Thank you so much!
And left over Rajma tastes infinitely better the next day. Lovely video!!
oh man that looks yummy - I'm so going to make it and yes please would love to see your mom cooking again
The execution and tips you have given us what, is what makes rajma taste so amazing! Absolutely agree dry beans taste so much better then tinned.❤
Id like to see:
Chicken Pikora (like the red ones sold in shops)
Masala Fish (again like the red ones sold in shops)
Chapli Kebabs
^_^
The onions really are a labor of love, but I persevered, well worth it, Great result, yours and your Mum's recipe gets 6 thumbs up, and it's wonderful to see your Mum with you again ( Hi Mumma Chetna 😄) 👍👍👍👍👍👍
Looks amazing, I love it when the sauce coats the beans like that (my very favourite is Black Dal so I’m looking forward to comparing the two). Can I ask, did you reheat it before you and your Mum tasted it?
awwhhh Firstly wonderful dish.. and going to make next week.. and greetings to Mum ;-)
Oh yes, I’d love to see your Mum cook. How lovely they’re with you x
If mum approves then all is fine! great recipe thanks!
True the supermarket Raj Ma are hard, not for punjabi raj ma curry. But now I buy the tinned ones from indian grocery stores and these Raj Ma are exactly like soft and squishy ones which do observe the yummy flavours of the curry.
Thanks Chetna ... I made the rajma this morning with dried white beans (that's all my local supermarket had) and it tastes delicious....will be making again for sure 👍👍👍
A wonderful recipe and well delivered. Thank you for sharing!
Another great recipe!!! That's the perfect authentic rajma recipe. very well explained, Chetna. I am looking forward to seeing more recipes from Aunty.
Hi there. I'm looking forward to making this! I'm just wanting to check whether you drain the beans after you've cooked them? It didn't look like you did. Thanks.
I cooked some red kidney beans today. Afterward I looked up how to make it better & landed on your recipe for Red Kidney Bean Curry. I can't wait to make it. But it has no curry in it, so why is it called curry? just curious.
what do you think curry is? it is a name of a spice mix but that is not authentic indian.
woooooow, mum is so beautiful blessing........all i can say. Ahmad from derby..UK..u r simply great..chetna
Wow that looks amazing! I have never had rajma but it looks delicious. Hope to try your recipe soon
hope you will love it
@@FoodwithChetna oh my gosh it's so good! I don't think I've had kidney beans cooked from dry before. They really do have a different (much better) texture than tinned. The only thing I changed from your recipe was that I popped it in the slow cooker instead of simmering on the stove. I'll be eating this for lunch and dinner tomorrow :)
Hi Chetna's Mom! I don't care what you cook. Just love to see you 2 in the kitchen❤
I made this last night. Excellent! Thank you!
Enjoy your time with your family. I've got to try that recipe when I get some fresh coriander.
Def going to try! Can’t believe I just found ur channel, I tho u were only on Waitrose and Food52! Would love if you could do more recipes with chickpeas and chickpea flour! ❤
Very good recipe 👌 we make rajma like this only 😊 your recipe is perfect 👌👌
Great timing. I have some kidney beans I want to use soon. Plus, I have some of that first-ever-for-me store bought paneer to finish. BTW, I am OK with the store bought but probably would not buy it again--homemade is much better.
enjoy
Can you do a Karela recipe? Bitter melon I think. Glad your mum is well and enjoying that delicious Rajma. Looks like my moms own recipe and it’s making me very envious right now
Love the channel! (Hi, Mom!) Have you heard of a cauliflower dish called "Brain" Curry? The one time I had it, there was a whole head of cauliflower cooked in a yellowish-brown sauce that made it look like a brain. Alas, I was too stunned to get the recipe. I improved something for my younger cousins to get them to try a veg and Indian food. It was a big hit, but nothing like the inspiration.
Never heard of that though I have tried the whole roasted cauliflower and it is delicious
Really lovelee to see your mom! She is sweet! 😊
Thanks
@@FoodwithChetna - Can we have your mom on more often when she visits? 🙂
🙂 With different spices, and the addition of ground round (if so desired) you have chilli con carne! I think I will try this rajma tonight, as supper ideas are not forming in my brain!
Hi Chetna looks lovely do you eat this warm then or can you re-heat you said its best to leave a couple of hrs be cold by then haha?
This looks delicious! I'm making my shopping list. I'll watch anything your Mom would like to cook! :)
Looks yummy thanks for sharing it
Your rajma is a favorite of mine. So good!
Enjoy your time with your parents. 😊
You mum reminds me of mine. Bless her
a es from Mom means a lot :) thanks for this nice recipe! I never brave enough to even try to recreate this :)
Please do try
Great recipe. Enjoy your parent's visit.
I would love to learn how to make Nimma Rasam! It's one of my favorite soups.
Kidney beans and potato cooked together too is nice. Had it at an Indian lady’s home. Another lady made peas and potatoes. Also delicious. Can you help with both??
Do you make sweet Loli?
Thank you for all the good info. I'm new to your channel and haven't seen a lot of you content, all forms of bread would be nice. Made with lentils etc. Thank you
I would like to have Mom's version ov Aloo Gobi Masala! 🙏
yeah
Awesome video and recipe ❤😊
Thanks
So yummy your recipe is the best
brilliant video, well paced, full of info and crucially the final dish looked stunning. I will definitely be making this. Are there any tips or tricks in reducing the often 'windy' exhaust fumes after eating beans and lentils and such like this?
This looks soooooo good, I really want to make it but am concerned I would stuff up the onions etc 😢😢😢. What brand of pan are you using please?
Wonderful to see your lovely Mum! X
I love the intro! Also, how many tomatoes? Great to see mum again in the kitchen with you!
Similar to how i cook mine, but i need to up my spice quantities...3 onions!
Can't wait to make this. Looks fantastic ❤
I have been using your original demonstration from years ago when your mom cooked. How terrific is this video. I must say cooking the ground onions on a nonstick posedme several problems and I gave up after a while. The onions went blue.... several times. So disheartening. Weird chemicals in non stick. Now I use the Instant pot which is a safer version of the Indian pressure cooker yikes.
I think we have to work with what works best for us.
Wonderful recipe and so nice to see your mum appreciate it. I have a question for you - whenever I run my onions be it red or white through a mixer / blender, they end up turning bitter! I recently had to throw away all my pav bhaji gravy because the onions had turned bitter. Any thoughts on why this is happening?
It does happen sometimes, I would suggest that you finely chop them instead
So - two hours sitting. But did you then reheat (some of) it? Or was it left on low heat to stay warm?
A thoughtful daughter!
Hi Chetna's Mom, nice to meet you! I would love to see you cook, really anything you like! Just to see the way you cook would be amazing.
Do kidney beans let out clour when soaked overnight. Is it safe to consume.
I made rajma once used the water it was boiled in and it turned out bitter,
I love beans, I have to make that 😍
Awww your mum is lovely- I would love to see a Korma 😊
Ohh this looks delicious! I can't wait to try this! - At the risk of blasphemy, any tips on what I can substitute the green pepper with if I am not so good with super spicy things?
I use Anaheim peppers, they are not hot but taste lovely. I use paprika instead of the red chili powder, with maybe a pinch of chili. That will make it okay for our mouths but still with good flavor.
@@katherinewolfe Thank you!
Yum😋
Would love to
See your Mom cool Paneer & peas
Can you cook this in a slow cooker?
absolutely
Yummy😋😋
Indian style chiĺy.
😂😂
I'm going to sound ignorant but do you reheat it after it's cooled?
yes
Your mom should collaborate on a book with you!
❤️👏👏👏👍
Thanks
