This is something that Fallout 3 did very well in my opinion, all the holotapes and environmental storytelling the developers included in the game to connect a present-day Wasteland with the people from before the war. I feel like it really help set the tone and reinforce how Bleak and hopeless everything has become since then. This game above the others in the series does a good job showing just how desperate everybody was at the time of the Great War to hang on and survive. Fallout New Vegas will always be my favorite in the series, but the feeling, the ambiance and the desolate loneliness that Fallout three's environment portrays is unmatched by any other in the series in my opinion
Indeed. Y'know, I'm definitely wanting to try and highlight some of this. I love doing the big bombastic missions - but these ones here, the little side things you find that aren't even marked with objectives or tracked... you're right, the ambience they create is astounding.
