I'm kinda surprised that anyone who considers themselves rational and fair wouldn't immediately look to see if the clip they've watched was taken out of context or not. I usually try to do that for anything that seems to too easily fit my confirmation bias and I plan to repeat as fact...the more shocking the clip, the more reason to check. It happens so often to basically everyone with a platform, that I don't really get how anyone, but especially those with a platform, can consider themselves fair or honest without doing that.

The impressive part of Five Nights At Freddies in my opinion is that each game is mechanically distinct and brings something different to the table. Even if many of the titles (especially the early ones) have a similar gameplay loop, they didn’t just do the doors and lights thing for 5 games straight. Each one changed up the mechanics of what the player is expected to do in order to survive.
Yeah, Vaush may be right about none of the sequels capturing the same atmosphere as the original, but they weren't really trying to anyways. Each of them took a unique spin on the formula. Some of those experiments didn't pan out, sure, but regardless I respect that the games never simply rested on their laurels.
Scott really explored the gameplay, digging into the Sit and Survive mechanic until he could perfect it. You could tell he had a real drive for the process of making Video Games and figuring out mechanics

Xenogears has good gameplay and a pretty ok story but it feels unfinished. Xenosaga is not good at all. Xenoblade 2 and 3 are pretty great. Very middling hit or miss type of series

My line on Xeno-genders is basically that if someone were to accused me of tranphobia for refering to a xeno-gender person (aka a non-binary person) using they/them pronouns. Thats where i would disagree. Otherwise, you do you, its not my bag, but it also isnt my business
i feel like so many people give they/them the same level of weight that other mainstream pronouns have despite the gender-neutrality of "they" and the concept of "someone we dont know their gender of, or more than one gender", in the same way that many languages are truly gender neutral (such as farsi) where there are no pronouns, but you have unique ways of referring to someone based on gender or lack of, basically the only views are "you, me and someone else" . I think it comes from the idea that non-binary *is* a third gender, therefore "they" is gendered, same way that many people can't understand singular they. This is a similar problem to the it/its pronouns problem, where it's use for dehumanization has made that pronoun a loaded term in many cultures and people when referring to humans, that it's quite hard for many to so quickly reclaim, and it becomes a "society isnt there yet" problem that many (frankly, white) don't quite understand unless they were part of a another majorly persecuted group that didnt intersect with their race and gender, such as being disabled (visibly, mental or otherwise), or have been dehumanized before. For example, for me, trying to use it/its for people is incredibly difficult because it is ethnically traumatic. In this example, the truly neutral they/them serves a purpose, to refer to *someone or some group, in general*, without having to use their name or features, specially in cases where language and culture is transitioning. Bear in mind that I am similarly gender-abolitionist to Vaush: identity is cool, the biological concept of sex (including intersex and biological syndromes/conditions/differences) is cool. the institution of gender is cringe. I'm also stoned so forgive me if it's rambly and dumb

Despite what people might argue, this is completely different to conservative claiming to take an issue with with they/them or with binary pronoun switching, because they are just attacking the pronouns as an attack against the gender itself. I agree with you that it/it's is particularly problematic and they are probably the only pronouns I would outright refuse to use even if asked directly. The only things that we have referred to as "it" are objects, animals, and monsters, and I categorically am opposed to referring to humans that way, even if it's what they want. I have a question for Vaush or the community. I am 38 years old and have been seeing a therapist trying to deal with some stuff. They have told me that I have PTSD from childhood assault, they diagnosed me with ADHD, and in the next session they want to test me if I am on the spectrum. I intentionally missed the next appointment out of fear and self loathing. I understand that I should accept myself, but the social stigma attached to everything is difficult to overcome. I do not know what to do, I started therapy to try and be the best dad I can be but I am truly terrified. I respect many of your takes, and would appreciate any advice. Thank you.
Knowing if you're autistic might help you be able to understand how better to cope with some of the issues you're having. People nowadays tend to be a lot more accepting of autistic people. If you're worried about how other people will react, then you don't have to tell them. A diagnosis (usually) can stay a secret between patient and doctor. Best of luck

I think there should be a distinction between ai "art" and art that uses ai. Tech Bros despite being needlessly semantic don't want there to be a difference between something like Minecraft using random world generation and them using ChatCBT to fart out a script because they don't want to recognize that art requires intent and effort. I use an AI image generator called artbreeder for references when I sketch on my tablet and I think the healthy thing for artists to do with AI is incorporate it into the process and laugh at the techbros calling creativity obsolete.
There are actually generative AI services now that use only non-copyrighted images to train their neural nets, to allow indie game devs to outsource art and focus on programming with incredibly tiny budgets. It's cool to see people using tech the way it should be used. Farting out some generative art and slapping it in some cheap profit engine isn't real art. Using an AI generator to actually do stuff and arrange creatively is real art. And the ethics issue is null if you use responsibly trained neural nets. In the event any computers turn sapient though... They get the copyright, obviously. Easy fix.

I strongly disagree with Vaush's take that non-binary identity muddies things and doesn't serve the ultimate goal of gender abolition. As soon as you understand gender as a socially constructed thing that exists on a spectrum or is ultimately self-identified and self-defined, a catchall "neither identifies as male nor identifies as female" category is the ONLY logical conclusion. Expecting that everyone either chooses man or woman and then either follows or deviates from that standard (feminine women, masculine women, masculine men, feminine men) I think completely undermines the whole point of understanding gender as a subjective thing that exists on a spectrum. And in a world with no gender, everyone would essentially be non-binary: they would be whatever they define themselves as, absent from any concept of masculinity or femininity. Without ever normalizing the concept of non-binary, how do we ever deviate from the male-female binary? The only logical first step to abolition is normalizing non-binary identity.

When your entire experience with someone is clips that are intentionally taken out of context and the occasional edit, it's easy to get the wrong ideas.
I'm kinda surprised that anyone who considers themselves rational and fair wouldn't immediately look to see if the clip they've watched was taken out of context or not. I usually try to do that for anything that seems to too easily fit my confirmation bias and I plan to repeat as fact...the more shocking the clip, the more reason to check. It happens so often to basically everyone with a platform, that I don't really get how anyone, but especially those with a platform, can consider themselves fair or honest without doing that.
I wish I had the same level of intellectual rigidity as you. I fall into confirmation bias way too easily. But I suppose admitting I have a problem is the first step to solving it.

The impressive part of Five Nights At Freddies in my opinion is that each game is mechanically distinct and brings something different to the table. Even if many of the titles (especially the early ones) have a similar gameplay loop, they didn’t just do the doors and lights thing for 5 games straight. Each one changed up the mechanics of what the player is expected to do in order to survive.
Yeah, Vaush may be right about none of the sequels capturing the same atmosphere as the original, but they weren't really trying to anyways. Each of them took a unique spin on the formula. Some of those experiments didn't pan out, sure, but regardless I respect that the games never simply rested on their laurels.
Scott really explored the gameplay, digging into the Sit and Survive mechanic until he could perfect it. You could tell he had a real drive for the process of making Video Games and figuring out mechanics

My line on Xeno-genders is basically that if someone were to accused me of tranphobia for refering to a xeno-gender person (aka a non-binary person) using they/them pronouns.
Thats where i would disagree. Otherwise, you do you, its not my bag, but it also isnt my business
i feel like so many people give they/them the same level of weight that other mainstream pronouns have despite the gender-neutrality of "they" and the concept of "someone we dont know their gender of, or more than one gender", in the same way that many languages are truly gender neutral (such as farsi) where there are no pronouns, but you have unique ways of referring to someone based on gender or lack of, basically the only views are "you, me and someone else" .
I think it comes from the idea that non-binary *is* a third gender, therefore "they" is gendered, same way that many people can't understand singular they.
This is a similar problem to the it/its pronouns problem, where it's use for dehumanization has made that pronoun a loaded term in many cultures and people when referring to humans, that it's quite hard for many to so quickly reclaim, and it becomes a "society isnt there yet" problem that many (frankly, white) don't quite understand unless they were part of a another majorly persecuted group that didnt intersect with their race and gender, such as being disabled (visibly, mental or otherwise), or have been dehumanized before. For example, for me, trying to use it/its for people is incredibly difficult because it is ethnically traumatic. In this example, the truly neutral they/them serves a purpose, to refer to *someone or some group, in general*, without having to use their name or features, specially in cases where language and culture is transitioning.
Bear in mind that I am similarly gender-abolitionist to Vaush: identity is cool, the biological concept of sex (including intersex and biological syndromes/conditions/differences) is cool. the institution of gender is cringe. I'm also stoned so forgive me if it's rambly and dumb

Despite what people might argue, this is completely different to conservative claiming to take an issue with with they/them or with binary pronoun switching, because they are just attacking the pronouns as an attack against the gender itself.
I agree with you that it/it's is particularly problematic and they are probably the only pronouns I would outright refuse to use even if asked directly. The only things that we have referred to as "it" are objects, animals, and monsters, and I categorically am opposed to referring to humans that way, even if it's what they want. I have heard the take that gender abolitionism hurts people's ability to figure out their identity by removing any framework with which they can interpret certain aspects of said identity, but I disagree... Because the category isn't the things within the category. Map-territory distinction. If we get rid of gender, we're left with individual elements of personal identity that aren't held to some arbitrary standard of validity or expected to fit into neat groups. I have a question for Vaush or the community. I am 38 years old and have been seeing a therapist trying to deal with some stuff. They have told me that I have PTSD from childhood assault, they diagnosed me with ADHD, and in the next session they want to test me if I am on the spectrum. I intentionally missed the next appointment out of fear and self loathing. I understand that I should accept myself, but the social stigma attached to everything is difficult to overcome. I do not know what to do, I started therapy to try and be the best dad I can be but I am truly terrified. I respect many of your takes, and would appreciate any advice. Thank you.
Knowing if you're autistic might help you be able to understand how better to cope with some of the issues you're having. People nowadays tend to be a lot more accepting of autistic people. If you're worried about how other people will react, then you don't have to tell them. A diagnosis (usually) can stay a secret between patient and doctor.

Definitely stick with therapy/treatment for your kid & also try to find other neurodivergent folks to be friends with.. even just online. Having people who understand on a personal level really helps.

I think there should be a distinction between ai "art" and art that uses ai. Tech Bros despite being needlessly semantic don't want there to be a difference between something like Minecraft using random world generation and them using ChatCBT to fart out a script because they don't want to recognize that art requires intent and effort. I use an AI image generator called artbreeder for references when I sketch on my tablet and I think the healthy thing for artists to do with AI is incorporate it into the process and laugh at the techbros calling creativity obsolete.
There are actually generative AI services now that use only non-copyrighted images to train their neural nets, to allow indie game devs to outsource art and focus on programming with incredibly tiny budgets. It's cool to see people using tech the way it should be used.
Farting out some generative art and slapping it in some cheap profit engine isn't real art. Using an AI generator to actually do stuff and arrange creatively is real art. And the ethics issue is null if you use responsibly trained neural nets. In the event any computers turn sapient though... They get the copyright, obviously. Easy fix.

I strongly disagree with Vaush's take that non-binary identity muddies things and doesn't serve the ultimate goal of gender abolition. As soon as you understand gender as a socially constructed thing that exists on a spectrum or is ultimately self-identified and self-defined, a catchall "neither identifies as male nor identifies as female" category is the ONLY logical conclusion. Expecting that everyone either chooses man or woman and then either follows or deviates from that standard (feminine women, masculine women, masculine men, feminine men) I think completely undermines the whole point of understanding gender as a subjective thing that exists on a spectrum. And in a world with no gender, everyone would essentially be non-binary: they would be whatever they define themselves as, absent from any concept of masculinity or femininity. Without ever normalizing the concept of non-binary, how do we ever deviate from the male-female binary? The only logical first step to abolition is normalizing non-binary identity.

This moderator is the AMA equivalent to the Soup Nazi. The opposite but non-debate equivalent to James from Modern Day Debate, who does virtually nothing to manage debates (interactions). Actually, Vaush has been the only streamer/debate sphere person I’ve watched that has a very good application of moderating convo. Most people think moderators should be invisible as possible. This is a belief that a participant can be neutral. Even though this was an AMA, it was horribly managed.

For example, unions have been getting more and more popular, and the majority of those people still had to learn what a union is, what theyre doing, why, and how to execute what they want to do, which is economic theory. They engaged with the hard subject, not getting a simplified version of it
