They can't comprehend people not believing in their system. My sister is a devout Christian and she told me she could not comprehend how I, as an atheist, didn't believe in any higher power. They have no previous experience to compare to to even begin to understand (well, they do but they don't understand that their not believing in other religions is akin to an atheist not believing in any of them).
I think of it kind of like how the Romans and Greeks felt about other religious groups. They didn't believe other communities believed in other religions. They believed others just worshipped the Roman/Gteek pantheon, but with different names. That other gods were just the pantheon presenting themselves in ways that other communities would accept. Example. Norse God Odin = Hermes Isis had her own deity that Greeks and Roman just mixed in with their own deity. The same thing happened with Ishtar from Mesopotamia. So, I think that's kind of how the Christians view this stuff, but instead of gods, they think that other people's deities are just devils in disguise. Christians don’t believe in the plot of Dante’s Inferno, but a lot of the common headcanons about hell parroted by preaches is taken directly from Dante’s depiction.
To be fair Dante somewhat documented popular beliefs his italian contemporaries held towards hell. There's also a ton of social and political commentary in there, but as far as I know the basic structure and function of hell was just what his peers believed.
@@erisesoteric7571 dude Dante took the inspiration from the Eneaiad for the afterlife, an epic with pagan mythology, maybe it was popular belief but not because of Christian texts. I don't like Dante's depiction and it did influence the perception of hell, there's no mention of fire in "hell" in the gospel, its all taken from other places which is not surprising considering genesis is basically plagiarised from middle Eastern pagan mythos, its not that weird (source I'm both Catholic and Italian)
@@ti9372 I wasn't saying anything from Dante was canonical, I was saying that for what I know he wrote down the beliefs his contemporaries held regarding hell. Hell is practically never mentioned in the bible, even less so described any more explicit than as a fiery pit.

Funny thing is, all modern depictions of hell came from Dante's Inferno. They may say it is not cannon, but they treat its art as cannon for all intents and purposes. That's like saying the extended Star Wars Universe is not cannon, and have every character mention Darth Raven in the official movies.
Ironically Disney does that a lot actually. For example Darth Bane appears in Star Wars The Clone Wars (which is considered canon) but the books he appeared in are no longer considered canon. It's really confusing and frustrating.

Because without having eaten the apple, humanity wouldn't have the science, education, art, etc. that we value so much. And the fight between good and evil was bullshit because it was just a disagreement between God and his son, which had nothing to do with us. @@adenjones1802 I'm an ex-Christian, and have been one for almost half a century - I left after high school and haven't looked back with any sorrow. In the normal course of events, I wouldn't bother speaking against Christianity (because you are either a true believer or find it to be inherently self-contradictory), and here in the UK where religious attitudes are generally much more relaxed than in the US, you don't get the same level of discord, or groups like the Satanists springing up merely to make a point. But making these points seems to be necessary in the US, where right wingers are often fundamentalist Christians who seek to impose their beliefs on everyone, even on non-Christians. Issues like abortion and gay rights are in the political forefront again, with what I call Christofascists commandeering the Republican party and trying to reverse the moral and ethical progress that's been achieved in the US. The intent of the US Supreme Court to reverse abortion rights is just the opening salvo. Next they'll target gay marriage, and even the right of gay people to exist. Many Christofascists don't even disguise the fact they'd happily put women who have abortions, as well as gay people, to death. Theocracy is a threat not just to democracy in the US, but to people's physical lives. The Christofascists are thugs almost indistinguishable in thought and behaviour from 1930's Nazis - just with slightly different ideology. And while I appreciate not all Christians are fascists for Jesus - very few fit that category in the UK - in the US a lot of them are, maybe not yet a majority, but politically far more active than more tolerant Christians. The problem for Christians on the centre-left is that they find it hard to criticise the fascists without also questioning the basis of their Christian beliefs, which raises questions about their own.
What I love about it is it gives the supportive community many seek with organised religion without being so oppressive and requiring you to believe a book written thousands of years back

I'm from Austria and when you look into our history we had a bit of an antisemitic phase around 1940, you might have heard of that before. Because our country used to be the holy roman empire there are still strong ties to the catholic church, the vatican and in some way to the romans. We also have mandatory religious education in our public schools, so in my case roman catholic. In my opinion it has always been made clear that the jews were to blame for Jesus' death, since the romans, represented by Pilatus, tried everything in their power to have Jesus released. But the jews would rather see the worst human being in existence made a free man than Jesus. Masses are also broadcast und public radio and two years or so ago I overheard a priest saying during his sermon that the jews and only the jews wanted to see Jesus dead. I generally find it cute when Vawsh says that catholics aren't as bad as evangelicals. As someone who has been surrounded by catholics all my life, I think this appreciation stems more from a lack of exposure to them. I know he showed data before that christian regions in germany, so basically Bavaria, was less in favor of Hitler. Tbh I don't know enough of Bavarian history to explain this but at least for Austria you have to consider that there already was a catholic fascist in power. Reading testimonials from that era I got the impression that most of the catholics had a bigger problem with Hitler calling himself a "socialist" than with his antisemitc rhetoric. TL;DR: Vatican officially not blaming jews anymore kinda doesn't matter, catholics still do it.

Isis had her own deity that Greeks and Roman just mixed in with their own deity. The same thing happened with Ishtar from Mesopotamia.

Christians don’t believe in the plot of Dante’s Inferno, but a lot of the common headcanons about hell parroted by preaches is taken directly from Dante’s depiction.
And they never know because they never actually read the Bible.
To be fair Dante somewhat documented popular beliefs his italian contemporaries held towards hell. There's also a ton of social and political commentary in there, but as far as I know the basic structure and function of hell was just what his peers believed.

It's all about strength and contempt of any weakness in some very larpy social darwinism way. And funnily, the Satanic bible has also some Jordan Peterson vibes with the strongly worded phrases they sometimes use.
But I guess the Satanic Temple isn't quite the same, right?
Satanism and neo-Marxism can coexist beautifully and it will slowly rise in thr left wing. Glad to see more Satanists like myself lately
That's probably because in most case, people that are not shitheads can relate to the beliefs of satanism. I think that the only difference its you presenting yourself as a satanist and well, all the aesthetic (that I personally think is really drippy and cool). You don't really need to be a satanist to came to this type of conclusions but I'm really glad they exist to introduce people that, in other cases, would not be able to reach this ideas by their own. Satanist or not, anyone who fights the good fight and spread rational information are my friends.

That dude who lost his brother - I did too. It completely changed the way I percieve life. I get that. BUT his support system (rest of his family) seems religious; and very loyal to the Christian Church's teachings. My support system was not.
So for me...I do realize that more time is not guaranteed. It taught me to really cherish the people you care about, and to make time for people who really matter to you. Even if it's just a phone call on your way home from work; even if it's sending them a meme that made you think of them. Just letting them know and knowing yourself that this time is precious.
In his case?..."I will burn in eternal suffering if I don't start following the Church. My life is consumed by it and my support system constantly praises me for being involved. If I left now it would be condemn my soul and everyone would be so hurt."
I hope he works through that trauma.

Yea no Vaush, Dante's inferno is originally a satirical comedy about hell. And it became the version of hell that we now picture and believe in.
It actually is cannon now. Dantes inferno is where our perception of hell comes from.
Dedicated shitposting, hundreds of years in advance.
Yeah, hell was originally described as "the absence of God". The further you are away from him, the worse it is. In other words, ruling hell or being fireproof doesn't actually matter.

@@Alias_Anybody yeah, that's actually not true. That idea of the absence of god is a very modern theological interpretation.
Although it is true that Satan or Lucifer (technically different characters, but no one fucking knows that) don't rule hell, and also being fireproof doesn't matter, as he's imprisoned in the lowest level of hell which is literally a frozen wasteland.
One thing, every time I’ve heard someone say that after a girl has her first period and can now make a baby, they are now a “woman”, regardless of their age…. they’ve all had ONE thing in common for sure.

Satanist bible has a more progressive mindset and rules when compared to Christian bible. I'm a religious skeptic mostly because every religion has their own set of rules, ideals, and even unofficial ideas of afterlife. Clearly this news segment shows the types of people from certain religions.
Satanism isn't a "religion" and there are no rules to follow, it's an activist group used to counter balance when Christians try to put their bullshit in textbooks and on public property. It's about the constitution and separation of church and state, they just use "Satan" as a symbol to troll people.
Probably true but from what I remember from reading the Satanic Bible some years ago I really wouldn't view it as a healthy basis for moral beliefs.

Renegade Cut does a great video on this. Basically, Satan is not real, not in the atheist sense but in the theological sense. Satan is Christian fan fic.
Satan being a spook is very funny
That is… literally not true, Satan is found by name in the Torah, the Synoptic Gospels, and the Quran. Haven’t seen the video but on its face it just seems dumb

Renegade Cut always makes quality shit.
I recall seeing his vid then watching Hochelaga's video on Lucifer, but not taking it too seriously.
It wasn't until I heard an interview with a religious scholar who basically said the same thing and how 'the Satan' was somehow personified into a single person, then mistranslations conflated this person to be named Lucifer. Somehow, it was related to the snake in the garden of eden....
Then all the Christian fan fiction built on this all and boy has it been a hell of a ride.
What is it about self-embarrassment that evangelicals find so addicting?
Their religion is predicated on punishing yourself and reveling in your own misery, so obviously they'd be into it.

Literally the stereotype of someone who's into religion (Christianity) because he's scared by the prospect of mortality and never fully abandoned the idea of an afterlife. That fear of an eternity in Hell pushes him to make up for the years he strayed by overcompensating.

The Satanist church tends to be more edgy and less religious version of the Unitarian Universalist Church, a church which tries to gather and teach the best parts of all religions to people of all religions in a United community. They have very similar communities and do very similar work, but the Unitarian Universalist church is much more approachable to more religious people and is significantly better optically to turn people over to better spiritual communities. :3
there's a big unitarian universalist following in the community I live in, it's fairly cool to see. There's also a Quaker church within biking distance but they don't sell the oats sadly :(

I am a catholic as I was raised catholic, my grandparents and parents are catholic and I am still catholic bc I was taught that all it ment to be catholic was to care for other, be nice, go out of your way to help etc. I was extremely lucky to have nothing but a caring and inclusive religious upbringing which overall was a very small factor in my upbringing. It is based in part on those believes and other values that I stand with Satan church, and I stand with LGBTQ+ and I care for welfare and Healthcare. To me thankfully this are all interconnected and not contrario and based on critical thinking.
And it is based on my upbringing that I have a possible more positive believe that religious does not have to have a toxic but I see where it comes from in the us.
I can appreciate a Catholic like yourself, Stranger.
I always feel sad seeing these comments, in a good way. I’m glad to see others have a good experience with religion, and I always feel a little envious that I wasn’t so lucky. This is why the religion’s name isn’t important, the practices and beliefs are.
