    • @magne7771
      @magne7771 Рік тому +14

      ...I lost a LOT of faith in the US military. EVERY SINGLE SOLDIER swore an oath to defend the nation from threats foreign AND domestic.
      ...and, I know it's unreasonable, but I still can't get the thought out of my head. Not a single one, on or off duty, mounted up after they heard Jan 6th was going on. Not that they could've _done_ much... unless, I don't know, everyone scattered after they started firing at the mob?
      Like I said, I KNOW it's a bridge too far, but until I hear a good enough reason, _SOME_ kind of mitigating factor, for why they DIDN'T _have_ to do something right there, right then, I don't think I'll be able to change my mind. I can't stop asking myself "where were they?". Because it should've been automatic. The capitol POLICE were directly given orders to stand down, but not the military.

    • @trianglemoebius
      @trianglemoebius Рік тому +58

      @@magne7771 Police are a proactive force, meaning that when there's trouble they go in and deal with it immediately unless called off. The military, meanwhile, is a reactive force, meaning they must be called in to deal with something. The US military cannot go anywhere without Congress telling them to (or the president telling them, in the case of the USMC) - that's why they weren't there, they don't have the power to act carte blanche.
      This is a cornerstone of democracy - it keeps the police and military separate, the military accountable to an elected authority, and prevents them from being able to throw a coup. Imagine if this weren't the case, if they had the power to roll in the tanks to anything they didn't like. They could, on a whim, turn things like the BLM protests into Tiananmen Square.

      @trianglemoebius on top of that, legally, for exactly the reasons you mention here, the military CANNOT act on American soil. But we have state funded and federal funded reserve units in the national guard that act as the domestic defense. The only thing that could make active duty soldiers act on American soil is a direct and total invasion of American territory.
      Until then, the national guard are the military boots on the ground against domestic threats.

      Bernie and the growth of progressive support has moved the establishment further left than they used to be. I don't see Biden pushing for college debt forgiveness nor nearly (, unfortunately) partisan support for raising the minimum wage otherwise.

    I knew that I could forever look down from my cloud in between my harp playing and watch my teacher being tortured in hellfire by Satan and that made me feel so much better about evil people who seem to be getting away with sinning. Well Joshua Overlord, odd name for your comment but okay. I am old enough to remember a 2 decade long AIDS crisis started by a president who loved him some Leviticus 20:13, a health crisis which killed 100 million people including many whom I loved and cared deeply about.
      Every day of that worldwide pandemic I was reminded by people who covered up their hate for sinners by shouting “AIDS is god’s wrath against homosexuals,” and calling it love. Then from the same loving mouth would come: “Get AIDS and die you fucking f-word,” sometimes accompanied by a spray of their saliva.
      That caused this lifelong atheist to read the “good book” to discover that good meant anything good by divine command, which includes the killing of every living creature on earth except a boat full of chosen ones.
      I suggest you read your Bible for the first time before you demonstrate in public your ignorance.
