Well good news, Danny. If the next season follows the same progression as the novel, the next season will, primarily, be Xie Lien's FIRST flashback arc - im talking we're gonna get the full story of his first ascension. And OH BOY you aren't ready.
It's so funny seeing Danny NOT pick up on who Hua Cheng is because I thought it was so obvious after reading the novels but like the connection is actually so crazy to make when you aren't reading all the extra details from the novel. I think they really needed some sort of narrator, or for Xie Lian to have more of an internal monologue, for this pacing to work in the donghua. Sooo many of the details are missing, which is to be expected, but it's to the extent that it's hard for people new to the series to follow the plot, which is unfortunate. I wouldn't say TGCF is the easiest novel to get into as a western reader, mostly because of all the Chinese names and titles. But at least you know what they're trying to present to you in important scenes. I NEED this guy to read it some day so he can get the full experience, and hopefully watching the donghua will give him enough familiarity with the names to have a better start on the novel. 😭
@@AmnaFatima-mm1bw in the eight book in the bonus specials at the end, there was one about it being Hua Cheng’s birthday and XL not having an idea of what to get him. Stuff happens blah blah blah and in the end XL decides to make him like some sort of Xianle style longevity locket using the metal from the mask he used when he was state preceptor of Yongan. In the end something about his blood being mixed in with the mask happened and made XL’s heart ache every time he thought of HC and so HC destroyed it. But Hua Cheng did get another gift from XL (a belt he wove)
I'd definitely recommend Mo Dao Zu Shi or The Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation. It's by the same author and has a similar-ish theme in a lot of ways. It's significantly more fast-paced and it is completed in 3 season.
Danny you HAVE to watch grandmaster of demonic cultivation. Not only is the show fully complete and written by the same author pf heavn officials blessing, but the story and character writting is SOO GOOD

While I think it would add to his experience, I feel like part of the fun of this series is seeing the reaction of someone who has no idea what's going on, so reading might take a bit of that away for the audience 🤔
It's so funny how much the emperor refuses to suspect or even really punish Xie Lian for anything. Anyone else fucks up and it's off to prison but Xie Lian breaks 20 laws in one afternoon while running around w the fucking Crimson Rain and he's like "oh u poor baby, u sweet little thing, u have done nothing wrong ever" which is hilarious and so tragic lmao

You have to read the novels, it’s a way different experience than the donghua, It explains everything in a much better way and it’s uncensored. Also you should definitely check out Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation (Mo Dao Zu Shi) It’s by the same author but it has a lot more action stuff, I feel like you would like it!!

You would like Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation better. A lot more happens and it's more action-focused. The animation is a matter of taste, but I like it. It feels more 90s-ish than what's coming out of Japan these days and I'm a sucker for 90s anime. Also, a ton of "zombies". Regarding your comments on Qi-Rong: If I could make winged green eyeliner instantly appear whenever I wanted to, I totally would, so I see where he's coming from. Btw, if you're basing your judgment of Hua Cheng being evil off the fact that he's a ghost, gods and ghosts aren't aligned with good and evil like that. Qi Rong is just Qi Rong. He's evil, but that's a him thing, not a ghost thing. Ghosts can be good and gods can be evil. Being a god or a ghost is a morally neutral state of being, from what I can tell.
I do love the slow build, it starts building up beginnings to some amazing mysteries and conflicts. God Heaven Official's Blessing is my favorite book, I want to talk so much about it, but I'm glad you did enjoy the second season. If you are confused about anything things do get explained again later or just in more details. Just know that the third season, whenever it happens, will definitely switch gears again
I think they really needed to explain why that costume and sword even existed for qi rong to wear and why xie lian didnt notice him sooner. That place was for the royal family and there was a guardian statue of the crown prince to guard them, (xie lian is the crown prince, that was his own costume, so he didn't notice there was someone alive wearing it at first, before qi rong attacked him) All of these two seasons feels like a set up and i'd feel tortured watching blind lol You're honestly really right, we get it. It just gets so damn good after the full background reveal, I wish the donghua team made a few events and flashbacks change order.... but they still did a good job making ppl read the novel after like 2 eps of donghua, cuz it does get u curious and all the answers are there... in future seasons hopefully. Hope they finish the story so danny gets it all finally. Also! Xie lian being a bad day away from slapping someone to death.... lol. That's totally him. This guy is really skillful and powerful, and the power is pretty raw, without his spiritual power. That's why he just doesn't fight unless really neccessary. And his temper is refined after living for 800 years, but like Watching his temper in his early days is a feast! Hope u get to enjoy it a lot more in the future. Also Yup MDZS is a good one to watch after this as it is ended so we're not tortured thinking oh gawd will they make that part or not.

If you have the space for another reaction series, Mo Dao Zu Shi /Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation is REALLY good and in my opinion has better action and character relations than TGCF. The animation style is BEAUTIFUL and music is enchanting with such a good cultural rich environment. There not being an english dub may be off putting but it is still 110% a worthy watch.
When you watch Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation... take notes. It helped me a lot. I didn't do it with this show and I was so lost at the end but hey, Qirong is fun.

It's kind of bittersweet to see your reactions. I actually first got into Heaven Official's Blessing because I saw your videos on it last year, and It was the second series I ever saw from you (First was Yuri on Ice). I got totally hooked and watched the donghua, read the manhua, read the novels, and now I have read many danmei series from many different authors. I'm even learning chinese because I fell in love with how poetic the stories are. The thing is, it's a much more complex story than it shows at first, and all the characters are kind of important. Even the villains that until now have just seemed like the antagonist of the week will come back and will impact the story, coming full circle in the end. On one hand, it makes me anxious and I don't want you to be turned off the story just because the adaptation takes a long time to be made. I really don't want you to drop the series. I'm also wary of how the donghua will deal with censorship and you might never get the kiss you are lookig for, even though those moments are so precious in the novel. So I fell tempted to keep asking you to read the novel as soon as you can and be part of this world that I find so appealing. On the other hand, I like you reactions from someone on the outside looking in. It is re-living the experience I had when I first got to reading, so I wouldn't want you to spoil the series for yourserlf, even though It will probably take years for it to finish. In any case, I'm happy you are reacting to it, and I would love if you could finish it some day. Sorry for my english, it's not my first language.
Another great reaction season! There’s a lot of context that you don’t have since you haven’t read the books, but that makes your reaction so refreshing! And nostalgic of our own journeys through the series. I started with season 1, then read all the books, so very relatable. The ending of season 2(those flashbacks and what San Long) esp requires context. But season 3 will prob be the season to give a big amount of context, don’t worry! I love the season 2 ending, such a big moment after having read the books. Esp getting that line from his pov, which we don’t get in the books. That was a big surprise! Knew you’d like this antagonist too and the MC’s past conflict with his pupil. So glad to you you got something out of this. Also Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation, while there’s also more context the second time reading/watching, thing’s are a lot clearer. Also has more zombies and monsters and gay scenes(no kissing tho). More action filled and fast paced and antagonists too. I know you’ll love it, so please watch, for your and our sakes!

It's so funny seeing Danny NOT pick up on who Hua Cheng is because I thought it was so obvious after reading the novels but like the connection is actually so crazy to make when you aren't reading all the extra details from the novel.
I think they really needed some sort of narrator, or for Xie Lian to have more of an internal monologue, for this pacing to work in the donghua. Sooo many of the details are missing, which is to be expected, but it's to the extent that it's hard for people new to the series to follow the plot, which is unfortunate. I wouldn't say TGCF is the easiest novel to get into as a western reader, mostly because of all the Chinese names and titles. But at least you know what they're trying to present to you in important scenes. I NEED this guy to read it some day so he can get the full experience, and hopefully watching the donghua will give him enough familiarity with the names to have a better start on the novel. 😭

Stuff happens blah blah blah and in the end XL decides to make him like some sort of Xianle style longevity locket using the metal from the mask he used when he was state preceptor of Yongan. In the end something about his blood being mixed in with the mask happened and made XL’s heart ache every time he thought of HC and so HC destroyed it. But Hua Cheng did get another gift from XL (a belt he wove)

I'd definitely recommend Mo Dao Zu Shi or The Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation. It's by the same author and has a similar-ish theme in a lot of ways. It's significantly more fast-paced and it is completed in 3 season.

Btw, if you're basing your judgment of Hua Cheng being evil off the fact that he's a ghost, gods and ghosts aren't aligned with good and evil like that. Qi Rong is just Qi Rong. He's evil, but that's a him thing, not a ghost thing. Ghosts can be good and gods can be evil. Being a god or a ghost is a morally neutral state of being, from what I can tell.

I do love the slow build, it starts building up beginnings to some amazing mysteries and conflicts. God Heaven Official's Blessing is my favorite book, I want to talk so much about it, but I'm glad you did enjoy the second season. If you are confused about anything things do get explained again later or just in more details. Just know that the third season, whenever it happens, will definitely switch gears again

I think they really needed to explain why that costume and sword even existed for qi rong to wear and why xie lian didnt notice him sooner.
That place was for the royal family and there was a guardian statue of the crown prince to guard them, (xie lian is the crown prince, that was his own costume, so he didn't notice there was someone alive wearing it at first, before qi rong attacked him)

I haven't read it yet, I got through MDZS first then SVSSS in the span of a week and then I was so burned out that when I found out that there was another novel I just stopped

Also, the blood rain is from him killing all the demons that were helping Qi Rong with... his dinner. His comment is about how heaven is inefficient before the blood rain is him being like, heaven would have taken too long to round up all the demons, so he just destroyed it for them

You're right in saying it's slow, even as an avid fan of the books, and these seasons, there's a lot that could be done to make it more engaging, especially for those who go in blind. Personally love it though cause their sticking close to the books while adding in some spice for us.🤭

If you have the space for another reaction series, Mo Dao Zu Shi /Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation is REALLY good and in my opinion has better action and character relations than TGCF. The animation style is BEAUTIFUL and music is enchanting with such a good cultural rich environment. There not being an english dub may be off putting but it is still 110% a worthy watch.
When you watch Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation... take notes. It helped me a lot. I didn't do it with this show and I was so lost at the end but hey, Qirong is fun.
Hey Danny, if you wanna learn more about tgcf. You should collab with Kictor, aka an all tgcf youtuber. She can tell you all about the true villian of the series, their first kiss, and the amazing arcs we won't get in the donghua. I dunno, just a thought

I have read both Heaven Official's Blessing and Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation, and they definitely live up to the hype everyone gives them.
It's kind of bittersweet to see your reactions. I actually first got into Heaven Official's Blessing because I saw your videos on it last year, and It was the second series I ever saw from you (First was Yuri on Ice). I got totally hooked and watched the donghua, read the manhua, read the novels, and now I have read many danmei series from many different authors. I'm even learning chinese because I fell in love with how poetic the stories are.
The thing is, it's a much more complex story than it shows at first, and all the characters are kind of important. Even the villains that until now have just seemed like the antagonist of the week will come back and will impact the story, coming full circle in the end.
On one hand, it makes me anxious and I don't want you to be turned off the story just because the adaptation takes a long time to be made. I really don't want you to drop the series. I'm also wary of how the donghua will deal with censorship and you might never get the kiss you are lookig for, even though those moments are so precious in the novel. So I fell tempted to keep asking you to read the novel as soon as you can and be part of this world that I find so appealing.
On the other hand, I like you reactions from someone on the outside looking in. It is re-living the experience I had when I first got to reading, so I wouldn't want you to spoil the series for yourserlf, even though It will probably take years for it to finish.
In any case, I'm happy you are reacting to it, and I would love if you could finish it some day.

Another great reaction season! There’s a lot of context that you don’t have since you haven’t read the books, but that makes your reaction so refreshing! And nostalgic of our own journeys through the series. I started with season 1, then read all the books, so very relatable.
The ending of season 2(those flashbacks and what San Long) esp requires context. But season 3 will prob be the season to give a big amount of context, don’t worry!
I love the season 2 ending, such a big moment after having read the books. Esp getting that line from his pov, which we don’t get in the books. That was a big surprise! Knew you’d like this antagonist too and the MC’s past conflict with his pupil. So glad to you you got something out of this.
Also Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation, while there’s also more context the second time reading/watching, thing’s are a lot clearer. Also has more zombies and monsters and gay scenes(no kissing tho). More action filled and fast paced and antagonists too. I know you’ll love it, so please watch, for your and our sakes!

I recently finished the donghua and started reading the novels (I sadly have to read them on pdfs cause I can't afford the actual books) and the novels are actually so good so far like I'm actually hyperfixiating on this series
