Been a lifetime fan, and now, at the ripe old age of 87, I still am. This film is 95 years old and will continue to be viewed and enjoyed in perpetuity. So all you folks in times to come, are in for a great treat. Kind regards to any and all Stan and Ollie fans reading this. England, February, 2024.

In addition to everything else, Stan invented the idea of falling down the stairs OFF CAMERA, while the pain and destruction of his descent played out in the sound effects, Ollie's reaction, and the audience's imagination. And Ollie -- who else could express so much chivalry and flirtation--simultaneously--into just saying the lady's name?
    Greatness.

Watching this, their first talkie, there can never have been any doubt that Laurel and Hardy would make the transition to sound. Their comedy personas were enhanced by audiences being able to hear them speak. Both had voices that were exactly right. When you add in to the mix that Stan Laurel, as the gag writer, was immediately adept at using sound effects to enhance the appeal of the gags, the result - then and now - was comedy gold !
