Hi Jim I followed carefully your instructions and was able to service yesterday a 105 f1.8 which got a stuffed focus ring. Big thx for your help. Note that I used hobby tool grease 010 as for my other lighter lenses and it works perfectly. So I am not sure you need to buy dedicated harder grease as the 030 for it. Take care.

Thank you so much!! Here I am, a happy bunny with a re-assembled and now buttery smooth copy of the 105. While all my scratch marks do match up, I still have to figure out why I can focus just a tad beyond infinity now (maybe that was the case before, I did not check) and the focus scale ring must have slipped when I put on the tape, since it actually indicates less than infinity at the stop...well, I consider it a success for now, just with some room for improvement ;-) but I also fully understand now why the entire last third of your video is exactly adressing this topic. It's trickeeeyyy!!

Hi! I am so sorry I do not address that in my video, however I am currently working on one that would answer your question. Please stay tuned. I should have it ready in a few weeks.

Thanks again Jim!! What brand is that long screwdriver? I haven't seen this type in Europe.

    Hi ICTCamera,
Thank you for your amazing videos. Your instructions through visual demonstration and talking through the process were super helpful. I successfully disassembled, cleaned, lubed, reassembled and adjusted this classic 105 f1.8 lens. Now it works like a dream, better than new. So thank you!
I have 1 question: which brand is the red glue you used at 7:12 (timeline) on top of the screws holding the helicoid keys in place. I could not find anything out there that match. Please let me know where I can buy that red glue.
Once again, thank you for your wonderful videos. I watched all of them. Very educational.

I use the glue that the manufactures use but cannot find it in the US right and I am running out. It is from Threebond and the product number is TB1401C

Hey! Awesome video, helps me alot with my stuck lens. Which size did you use for the tape to hold the focus in place? 6mm or 10mm?

Hi very interesting video as usual and big thx for sharing. I didn t know that the tape was important and I understand you are using heat tape. As an advise what is the good width for using it on Nikon usual lenses ? Is 8mm sufficient or rather less or rather more ? Thx in advance.

The tape needs to just keep the lens together. Scotch tape will work but it does get mushy and nasty if over time and in the heat. I use heat because I find it works nice and doesn't have the problems of normal scotch tape.

There are ways to get the helicoid back together but I doubt I will be able to describe the procedure. Even for me it would take a lot of trial and error to get it right.

Thanks for the great video. What type of lubricant did you use for the aperture ring? Any recommendation on brand and specific type? Thanks!

On rings like the aperture ring I like to use a moly grease (black). I used to get it from Canon but it is not available anymore. That is a problem with lubricates from the manufactures, when you need more they are out. I probably have 20-30 different greases so I am always trying new brands.
