Parents: stop letting your kids sit in their rooms on the internet all day and night. It is your home, establish some rules on this and enforce those rules religiously. Keep your kids away from these ridiculous outside influences and encourage them to get outside, read good literature, etc. Let's fix 99% of these types of problems by applying some common sense and healthy authority.

No actually we will go back to how it was in 2005 when you had to go to therapy and be diagnosed with a strict standard of gender dysphoria. I myself am a trans woman who used to have gender dysphoria and because I got hormones and surgery I don’t anymore and I am thriving. You have to have observed gender dysphoria to be trans in the first place. You don’t understand the subject outside of the current trend.

    • @TonySopranosBurner

@@kateofone I understand this subject better than most. One of my best friends was trans.. everyone always says “you have a year of therapy before being given hormones/surgery” which is just not true. You’re meant to, but doctors don’t do that. My friend went to 3 appointments with her doctor. In the first the doc said she needs hormones right away, she didn’t get them the first time but she got a test script on the second appointment she’d ever had with this doctor. The third they discussed surgery. There was no referrals to therapy, there was no year long psychiatry visits. Just a doctors appointment and off you go into the pharmacy for testosterone. If you’re an adult and want to do this to your body due to your poor mental health, then go ahead, but there should be strict regulations in place that are adhered to. This isn’t just a one off story, there are countless stories of people being given hormones from the jump. Now this chick has been trans for just over 2 years and is even worse, looks incredibly unhealthy, sickly, has massive scars on her chest, and just looks like a shell of who she once was. I know there might be cases where it’s helpful to some, but it’s not black and white, it’s not what you’re told by the doctors and surgeons you visit. This needs to either be heavily regulated or stopped.

@@kateofoneI see the truth in both. When it comes to genuine trans people it needs to go back to real therapy and gatekeeping with transitioning only being an option once dysphoria is confirmed and other treatments fail. When it comes to looking back on this time period where children can get double mastectomies just by asking, it will be look upon as horrifically as lobotomies.

"The majority of my friend group were trans". This tells you so much. I never knew a single person in school who was trans. We had some tomboys, but that was it. As an adult, one of my friends transitioned (about 25 years ago) but it wasn't the done thing like it is now. Social contagion is a thing and I'm so angry and frustrated that so many adults have left the room.

It's a fad, a new group in schools. It just keeps getting worse. When I was in school we had a lot more bi people then other generations. Funny thing was, they always dated the opposite sex anyways. They never actually did the same sex dating. It was just another label that you can slap on and be part of a group. That's what I thought this whole trans thing was. It's looking like this is the reality of it, a fad, a group. The new thing to be a part of. Cult like behavior. Now we have adults all over letting this happen and even pushing it constantly to seem accepting and cool to kids. The need for likes and to look virtuous is causing all sorts of issues online. Kids online is a net negative.

@@DorianPaige00 The court will decide if medical malpractice occurred or not - not the complainant, certainly not you or anyone in the public. Even if the decision finds that malpractice occurred, that does not mean treatment will be "banned" or otherwise unavailable. It could result in the modification of gender-related treatment protocols to better assess and address underlying conditions and factors that play a role in gender identity issues - before moving on to irreversible hormonal or surgical options.

    • @DorianPaige00
      @DorianPaige00 5 місяців тому +2

@@LAvengers-59 Well, a bit of logic here. Courts are made up of juries who are the the public so we we'll be determining malpractice in the Hineman case filed in Albany, NY on 4/23/2024. Historically lawsuit awards resulting from malpractice no doubt effects state medical board guidelines and those set forth by organizations like WPATH. There used to be stricter standards set forth by WPATH but a doctor doesn't have to follow them. WPATH in their latest iteration has claimed that psychological counseling can be a component but doesn't have to be. With relaxed standards, it allows more leeway for informed consent. Those informed consent documents often state gender affirming care is "experimental" so that may remove doctors from the liability argument that doctors are taking healthy body parts and leaving patients with dysfunction. I'm not sure how a treatment that's been around for 100 years can still be "experimental". If it's "experimental" then there are usually trials and any treatment outside of that is suspect. Revisions and subsequent follow-up treatment are usually additional charges.
You are correct in saying this in and of itself does not mean any treatment will be banned. But Republicans have criminalized medical gender transition in a majority of states with heavy restrictions and outright bans even for adults. In the UK, puberty blockers have been banned based on the Cass Report where Cass cited Abigail Shrier's book "Irreversible Damage" where gender affirming care is likened to sterilization efforts during the Holocaust. Puberty blockers are used for a younger cohort in treating precocious puberty and patients are still allowed them with no questions from lawmakers asked.
In summation, the question of whether the law should allow any doctor to curtail a patient's reproductive capacity will be in question as it has been with abortion and birth control. Guidelines are set by medical boards and professional organizations like WPATH. There will be some people who change their mind or have physical complications like the medicine doesn't agree with them or the surgery leaves undesired effects. Private health care matters in the public's purview usually fuel inaccurate opinion adopted by our legislators.

I told my therapist I thought I was trans when I was 15 and struggling in highschool as a lesbian who wasn't really accepted and a crazy socially anxious person that was mute for most days.
My therapist told me "I don't think you are trans" and I remember being offended and mad... But years later, luckily I never brought it up seriously in thought again, I realized I am just a lesbian. And that was 16 years ago, which is why the therapist was able to voice her opinion.
I was just hoping there was a magic fix that would help my mental health issues and I could disappear into somebody else.\\
Also as a lesbian, a lot of us don't like (large or medium( boobs. I'm 31 and I still hate them and want them to be tiny and almost unseeable through clothing. I still want them, but small. It's easy to focus on boobs for some reason for lesbians because sometimes if we are androgynous or masculine it feels weird to have.

As someone who sees these children, they did not exist before 2017 or so, which alone tells you this is entirely a social push. I saw hundreds upon hundreds of traumatized kids and kids with all sorts of developmental and mental health needs, and there were ZERO cases of gender identity issues. It was only after this began to pushed HARD by our culture that this became a thing. Almost all of these kids struggle with depression, anxiety, insecure households, autism or other things that give them a sense of a broken identity. Suddenly, in a transition, they get their own flag. People have to call them what they want them to call them, or they get in trouble. They have power over adults, including their parents. And now they are "affirmed" (as if there was anything affirming in telling someone that they were physically made "wrong") for the first time in their lives. So of course they embrace that, even if it's not true to themselves, and they have no idea what they want in life or who they are--only, they want "T." Of course, it never fixes things. Maybe a temporary high, at best. I can write that there may be multiple other factors playing into these identity issues, and yet a clinic who prescribes this monstrous stuff will do it on a single visit, very few questions asked. I am thankful for the states who have banned this for children; I consider it malpractice. Almost all of the children who I have seen have had this resolve after addressing other underlying issues.

I and many others *_EXISTED_* before 2017. I started transitioning in 2008 and it is the *_SINGLE BEST THING THAT I DID FOR MYSELF!_* I can't express how much more *me* I have felt since I started testosterone.
In fact, *_MOST_* people who transition are extremely grateful that they did. Are there people who regret *_THEIR_* decision to transition? Clearly there are; *_but they are in the minority!_*
I've participated in many support groups since 2008. Since 2009, I've attended them solely because cisgender therapists that ran the groups actively requested that I attend so that I could help answer questions.
Interestingly, out of the roughly 1,000 individuals I've met during these groups, there have only been a few people whom I *_actively discouraged_* from transitioning. This wasn't because I thought that everyone who attends a support group should transition, rather the people who I actively discouraged _perceived gender transition as something that would magically fix _*__every single problem they had_* and they clearly discounted the concerns that others tried to highlight. Of these, two did go on to transition, and unsurprisingly, they regretted it.
Everyone else I encountered was being very deliberative about their choice; some of them transitioned, some didn't, many waffled for months or years, some are currently waffling. For these folks, I've made a point of never encouraging nor discouraging them to either transition or not -because it *_should be the INDIVIDUAL'S choice._* None of the people from this group that I've known have de-transitioned, nor even expressed any regret at all about having transitioned. Like a lot of things in life, many of us wished that there had been _more_ change, but in the grand scheme of things, we're much more happier people _because_ we transitioned, even if it wasn't everything we had _hoped_ it would be.
As for Christina's feeling like she wasn't informed enough - I've had that feeling for _many other things_ including having to make a decision about whether to have surgery or not for a GI "medical mystery" that I was experiencing (that's literally what the surgeons called it). The doctors answered all of my questions _to the extent that they could be answered_ and then left the decision up to me -and that's exactly what the endocrinologists and surgeons did when it came to my transition. Where there questions that I asked that they couldn't answer? Yes, in both cases. Guess what, doctors aren't omniscient! They're doing the best that they can with the information that is available.
In other words, the people who regret transitioning exist *_but are in the minority;_* however, for many, many, _many,_ more people transitioning helps them to live much more happy and fulfilling lives, and frankly, to contribute more to their communities and families.

It is the greediness for money that turns doctors, nurses, psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers and others into criminals. I'm a therapist and have encouraged people who claim to be trans to collaborate on what is called a process of exploring differential diagnoses (i.e., explore other possible explanations, such as certain symptoms of OCD or body dysmorphic d/o). Ultimately, I have usually had these individuals drop out of therapy. My point is that hindsight is 20/20. Even if you have a therapist that will challenge your conclusions, you might not want to hear a different take on thoughts and feelings of confusion, with regard to gender.

There are certain places in the world where therapists aren’t allowed to do this. They have to “affirm” or can be fired or even have their licences revoked. Compounding the issue is many who want a ‘quick fix’ (as being advertised online) will leave a therapist expecting them to do the hard work and will find alternatives - and the ease of finding them is terrifying.
I understand individuals wanting a quick fix. Therapy is HARD. The issue is with all the misinfo online, the social contagion, the growing industry making bank.

From plastic surgery, makeup contouring, dieting, materialism, media messaging, peer reinforcement, it’s all saying the same thing: you’re not good enough -change yourself/buy this. I was put in therapy at the age of 13, with a very good therapist. Sometimes nobody can help you even when they try. It irritates me when people look back as adults and say things like 'people should have helped me' with this air of blaming everyone when its hardly that simple to help a difficult teenager. Some people who say this probably don't remember or acknowledge people did TRY, its not always obvious how to help, & often teens simply DO NOT listen to adults who tell them actual helpful things. As a teen who had similar body image problems & all that stuff - PEOPLE DO TRY TO HELP YOU. I bet her parents TRIED. Even psychotherapists tried to help me - more than one. This is a common overgeneralization of adolescents. Do teens resist "help" and do what they want to do anyway? Sure, some do... but many other do respond and improve in response to treatment- we have lots of research on that. Even if we feel pessimistic about someone's response to treatment, we do not assume that therapy and other forms of help will not work and withhold that treatment, right? No, people with mental health problems should be offered treatment for those problems, regardless of age or other factors. There are, in fact, very talented therapists who know how to best navigate complicated issues on a turbulent adolescent landscape. Yes, we need more of them!
The real question here is whether the clinicians who provided services for this girl met their professional, ethical, and legal responsibilities in her care. The public is understandably not well-versed in these responsibilities. The malpractice case will provide this answer.

I was very moved and saddened by Cristina Hineman's account and I've been seeing more documentaries with near-identical experiences like her. What's unusual (not referring to Hineman) is that as far back as the late 1970's when "gender affirmation" was once phrased as "sex change operations", psychological counseling and interviewing was crucial before ever going under the knife and this was explored in three sessions. You would have to have been 21 years of age or older to consent to this. The first session was a visit to the institute that would perform that operation where you were greeted and interviewed to evaluate whether you actually wanted to pursue this. An extensive Q & A was done and then you would be asked to come back the following week. By the second visit, you were greeeted again and given a tour of the facility, where the proposed sex-change was to take place as well as being introduced to a small medical staff who would work in conjunction towards your operation. You were then asked to come back another week. On the third visit you were given another Q & A on the implications and possible side-effects of the operation that may be permanent and irreversible and that ultimately the decision would be yours. Many overwhelmingly opted out of the procedure altogether and move on with Life. And this is the problem that has been apparent, it has become a mutli-billion dollar a year industry in almost all fifty states with puberty blockers being assigned to children as young as ten or twelve years old and disregarding everything in the aforementioned. It has become almost a fast-food drive-thru experience for those looking to transition and being given no consultation before or even after the procedure is over. There will be a backlash before the end of this decade in the form of lawsuits such as what Cristina Hineman has filed. Even in England and the Netherlands have stopped these "gender affirmation" operations and looking more to treat the patient on a psychological level--particularly children and minors...

    But this is not true!
I you question your gender which is not a bad thing basically.
(many young people questioning things, it's normal)
But if you do that now
    You are sucked in.
It's expected that you do something.
People ask: what are you planning now?
How far do you want to go?
What do you plan to get done now?
I said: I am who I am inside. I don't need to do something to become who I am.
The people looked strange and said: If you don't take hormones you are not trans.
They say they are informed about what trans is.
    The therapist kicked me out.
She asked why I didn't want to take hormones.
I mentioned that surgery and hormones have long-term effects that cannot be foreseen at the time of surgery.
This shocked her. She replied that it was transphobic.
I would just be afraid of the operation.
She had a 14-year-old non-binary there and he wasn't so coy.
    "He" immediately agreed to steps.
But I won't be any further ahead in 10 years.
I said I need to know what I am achieving with it. And she won't be there later if I have problems with it.
The LGBT social groups are also there in the narrative of the whole madness.
You will then be invalidated everywhere.
When you don't follow thd narrative of the current worldview.
You need incredibly mental strength to endure it.
If I hadn't already been at this advanced age, I wouldn't have had the capacity.

This whole thing is sick and illogical. Doesn't matter how many surgeries you have you are never going to physically change from a woman into a man/vice versa. Identify as whatever you want, but accept your body. You only get one - don't mutilate it.

I didnt go through planned parenthood but the informed consent model is a joke. I was 18 and received no prior therapy for my gender dysphoria but I recieved testosterone within a couple weeks of my first appointment at a lgbt clinic. All the doctor asked me was stereotypical questions about my childhood that all tomboys relate to before they had me get bloodwork done. I had dysphoria all through my teen years but it turned out not to be permanent like I thought it would be.

It's awful. Can't agree more: but, how DID we get here?
I was too intimidated to even think of piercing my ears by the time I was her age, for the flack I'd get from my mother.
How did our society become so permissive?
I certainly don't think this is a Planned Parenthood or western medicine problem. I think this is a societal problem: not raising children in ways that allow them to become young adults that make good decision for themselves:
And I'm not sure being 'on the spectrum' is anything but an excuse, vs reason. You'd think that would create red flags and more process -- and parenting such young people, for that matter.
if the paperwork was indeed longer, plenty of individuals would find ways around it. If the process was (more appropriately) longer, I suppose there'd be pushback about that: and PP assuredly doesn't have mandated waiting periods for IUDs or pregnancy terminations.
But -- whoa! Anyone telling ANYONE you can just go get new breasts if you want them later.
Oh no. To suggest ANY biologic tissue/process can be manipulated so flippantly, like it's cosplay: how the Sam Hill did this ever, possibly, happen?
Still totally appalled, mostly-sympathetic, but it all comes off, for me, as a stunning level of privilege combined with an appalling loose grasp on biologic reality of these not-grown-yet children AND CLINICIANS, and something between fatalism, lack of skill/ insight, and weakness in parents.

I can understand why she is upset, but it sounds like she was also informed in detail about what to expect. You can get a tattoo and piercings and a nose job and a boob job at 18 if you have the money to do it and no one can stop you. There are people who get face tattoos at 18 and they have no grounds to sue their tattoo artist. She literally saved up for a year to get this surgery done and was taking hormones during that period. She was, by all appearances, extremely committed to the process. Lots of people make decisions they regret later. I think she needs to take responsibility for the decisions she made instead of trying to blame the people who were trying to make it easy for her to do what she wanted to do.
In my mind, trans surgeries are no different from any other form of plastic surgery. Plenty of people wreck their faces with plastic surgery, but that doesn't mean plastic surgery as a whole is in the wrong. The vast majority of people who receive trans surgeries are happy with their results. There will never be a perfect system where someone won't regret their choices later. I think it's important to continue to let people make choices for themselves, regardless of this fact. Own your choices, take responsibility for yourself, and think carefully before you commit to something.
Freedom is both a right AND a responsibility. You have a responsibility to yourself to make careful choices because you are the final say in what happens to you. I feel more comfortable living in a society like that than in one where a government or some special interest group gets to decide what I'm allowed to do or not do.

Here's the thing and if we're honest, there's no way of getting around it as it's "science": the NIMH (National Institute of Mental Health) says the brain isn't fully developed until the mid to late twenties. If medical practitioners know this (and I'm sure they do) and they know many folks seeking such treatment (testosterone / surgery) suffer from depression or other issues how can they ethically provide treatment without knowing if the clients mental health conditions are impacting thier decision making? I understand and respect the idea of personal responsibility but in situations such as this feel its shortsighted. We can disagree. Regarding tattoos or piercings may I just say, I personally know a very well established tattoo parlor owner who will not allow several types of tattoos to be done in his shop (gang affiliation, racist) nor will he do tattoos on folks that appear under the influence of any substances. Additionally piercings and tattoos can be removed without having catastrophic changes to ones body in most cases where taking testosterone for an extended period causes permanent changes.

Much of what you say is true , except the statement about the vast majority of people getting trans surgery being satisfied. That may have been true a decade or two ago, but now with transitioning fast tracked, with gender affirming care, and with the lie being told that men can become women, boys and become girls. and vice versa, plus with children transitioning, that is no longer going to be true.
And any survey or research currently done, or retrospective surveys, are heavily slanted to reach the outcome trans activists want.

    • @Kajenx
      @Kajenx 5 місяців тому +1

@@sorbabaric1 Even in liberal places, children aren't allowed to transition. The most extreme gender affirming care given to a minor would be puberty blockers, which after researching, I believe are a good middle ground for a questioning teen to be given some time to make informed decision when they turn 18. These aren't without side effects, but the side effects are mild and they can play and extremely positive role in a person's life. There is a general dialog in conservative circles trying to demonize puberty blockers as "sterilizing children" but they are simply hormone blockers. They work exactly the same way that birth control does to stop pregnancy and Finasteride does to stop men's hair loss. These drugs were given to pedophiles in the 80's as a way to reduce or eliminate libido, and this is why conservatives think they sterilize people. Lowering sex hormones reduces libido. When you stop taking them, libido returns.
Just like puberty blockers, Finasteride and birth control aren't without side effects, but large swaths of the human population are able to use them safely. The worst that can happen to a person on puberty blockers is some excess growth and some reversible bone density issues. If a child is agonizing about their gender and wants time to consider their options before irreversibly going through puberty, this is a good, noninvasive solution.
After that, when people are adults, there shouldn't be a "big brother" medical system hovering over them telling them what is appropriate or not for their own body.
You end on a hypothetical, "It's no longer going to be true." Your predictions aren't facts, they're your own biases revealing the future you fear. As I said, CURRENT FACTUAL studies show that the vast majority of trans people do not regret their transition. Detransitioners account for around 5% of all trans people. That's a 95% success rate for gender affirming care. You won't find anything else in psychology that comes close to that level of success.

@@Kajenxgiving puberty blockers "to wait" is medical malpractice. puberty is REQUIRED for a healthy human body, and using puberty blockers does a lot of irreversible damage.

    • @Kajenx
      @Kajenx 4 місяці тому

@@eri_sama Puberty does happen once a person stops puberty blockers. Would you say it's medical malpractice to give a teenager antidepressants or antipsychotics? These drugs also have negative side effects. While not all trans people have gender dysphoria, it IS intrinsically tied up with being trans. If someone would rather die than live with the consequences of being in a body that disgusts them, it would be medical malpractice to withhold drugs from them that could save them. This is the consensus of the medical community, not just one person's hot take on the internet. It's a medical opinion that has evolved dramatically over time as data showed that the only way to treat gender dysphoria is to transition. MANY other treatments and cures have been attempted and studied over the course of 50-some years.
You also say "a lot of irreversible damage" without stating specifics. I stated the specific side effects of puberty blockers: a risk of weaker bone density (which is reversible once the meds are stopped) and a risk for excess growth (which is irreversible). Considering excessive growth could be stopped by simply discontinuing the use of the puberty blockers (or simply accepted--who says being tall is a bad thing?), they are extremely safe for what they offer a trans child. Namely, the ability to contemplate their decision and postpone it until adulthood.
