The Mazda 5 should be EVERY TEEN'S first car, in my honest opinion! Bought one for my daughter, for her senior year. Now in senior year of college, and she still drives it and loves it. Hers even came with a still-working DVD system with headphones and remote control!
You could get those Mazda 5 vans with a manual transmission.
I have one and love it. 2nd generation had a 6 speed.
I had a first gen 5-speed manual Mazda 5. Such a great vehicle! It was fairly underpowered but that made powering through the gears that much more fun and safe.

I own a 09 Mazda-5. Great little micro van. Extremely practical and gets very good gas mileage.
The Mazda5 is mechanically a Mazda3. I daily a 2007 Mazda5 with a manual transmission. Engine went out and I swapped in a 2.5 out of a 2016 Fusion. Bolted in. Fantastic little rig, hauled a bunch of stuff in it.
Motor Trend actually did a drivetrain swap in one with a blown engine that was bought back. Mazda donated it and a Mazdaspeed 3 that had been involved in an accident on the transporter.
They swapped the Mazdaspeed drivetrain into the Mazda 5 and they (Mazda) should have built it!

@@brian5o Yeah, that was cool and all but not an easy swap. The Fusion 2.5 is a popular replacement for Mazda 2.3s as they are super easy to find, cheap and easy to swap.
@@brian5oit’s not practical to use a speed3 engine in the mazda5 it’s too tall and at risk of rollover to be given any kind of performance
love that Mazda 5. I used to own one of those. I LOVED it! at the time it was like a cross-over vehicle. I threw a bass cannon in that thing and took off. only thing I hated was changing the oil as it had one of those cone oil filters.

I love that it’s probably the last van in the US you could get a manual transmission in. Motor Trend did a Mazdaspeed 3 powertrain swap into one. It wasn’t polished but it was awesome! The videos should still be here on UA-cam.

I had a Maxda5 and it was one of my favorite vehicles ever. Mine was a manual and it was SO much fun to drive. Great car!

Randy if you can go to Dubai you might be able to find many mildly flooded cars for like 1/3 of the price. As there was a huge flood.
I'd personally pick the Mazda 5. I've known of that car for awhile but never owned one. Never knew it had van style rear doors or the rear folding seats. It's very user friendly in parking lots for general shopping that way. Decent interior space. And the right kind of quirkiness. I bought a Honda Element about a year ago out of necessity needing something cheap and fast, and fell in love with it afterwards. I finally understood why people loved them. And because of that, I see the lovable quirks in the Mazda 5 now. It's now on my radar to consider if I find one locally.

I have a Mazda 5 as my daily driver. It’s a great little toy van. Sliding doors are great for kids. I generally leave the third row folded down.

I think it could be an 86. My stepdad had an 85 with granted a different engine, a 300-6. It was carbureted.
The Mustang got fuel injection for the first time in 1986, the last year of the 4-eye.
The 1987 F150 had an update to the boxy one with rectangular composite headlight assemblies.
I do think that one is an 86 but the bodies from 1980 (I believe) until 1986 are the same.

Randy, I own a Mitsubishi mirage a 23. It's called the Black edition blacked out rims. Absolutely love that car. Excellent on gas. Nearly 50 mi a gallon had it for a year. Zero problems
Love those 2Dr Accords. The Mazda 5 was a cool micro van. sporty looking, lots of cool features.
I'd drive the Mazda 5, would be a great car for taking the dogs around.
It is a PERFECT dog car. I removed the 2nd row right seat and even our small squatty body dog can easily get in and out without jumping.
Awesome video Randy, I would go with the Mazda Tribute because I have a 2003 Mazda Tribute my grandfather gave me he bought brand new. It never gave me any major problems just the basic maintaince and runs like new with 225,5000 miles (nock on wood). It's a great vehicle.

I had one of those Mazda 5s b4 they are very fun to drive the electric door motors go out and are expensive it’s worth a buy cuzz a small family would definitely be interested in that I loved mine when I had it
We did not get the electric doors here in the US. I am both bummed and happy that we didnt.

Hello Randy. The 2002 Honda Accord is a good looking car. The 2007 Dodge Nitro is a good looking SUV.
My 05 accord with the V6 also had that issue in reverse. It was always hard to go into gear with over 275K. No issues until the fuel pump quit 😅
Always loved those Mazda 5's, its just weird mix of a suv, minivan and a station wagon.

Mazda5 is super common in urban areas. We have them all over the place in Vancouver - super practical little cars. Fun to drive, great on fuel. Basically it's a taller Mazda3 Sport.
I love this Mazda 5 I have always wanted to buy one. I believe the final year of production was back in 2015. Very good on gas its basically a hatchback to the Mazda 3
Mazda had 3 hatchback that they sold alongside a 3 sedan at the time still does to this day. The 5 is based on the same platform but is actually larger than the 3.

We test drove a Mazda 5 several years ago, but it was really a bit small for us. I wish I could have bought one with the manual trans though!
Sounds like one of the strut bearings is seized in that Mazda 5.
That popping is the spring turning against the hat cuz the bearing in the top is set up tight.

That Mazda 5...it was like driving a brick down the road, as my dad described it and he's completely right, haha! I drove it a lot when I was starting to drive and its not great. Stiff, hard ride, eats oil (not leak, just disappears), cabin and wind noise is ridiculous, EVERYTHING is plastic, and seats wear on you after a bit of driving. It was peppy, i'll give it that.
My dad owned a 02 Honda Accord coupe and I remember it being in silver and im pretty sure hes still using it for work to this day.
The ford is an awesome buy, the ground wire going to the ignition is probably wound around the steering colum and is getting pulled when you trun the wheel
The Mazda 5 is a car I know well. Drove an 08 for several years and almost 300,000 miles. It was a wonderful car, almost no repairs, just regular maintenance, and was more fun to drive than it had any right to. 08 and better has rear air. The transmissions in those years are the weak spot, that is what ended up killing mine. I would be worried about that. I would take the 5 over the Tribute (Ford escape), in pretty much every case. But I would be worried about the transmission in this one. The rear seats all fold independently to give you cargo options it was a great small family car for my family of 5. I know, sales pitch over. It was just a really good car for me. :)
Those Honda v6 autos had a lot of issues. Doubt it was maintenance neglect. That dealer service tag on the key is a good sign it went to get service and they were told the trans was bad and traded it in. No flush is going to fix that.
The ford truck would be cool to see cleaned up and painted.
The Mazda Tribute is the better choice. Its 3.0 v-6 is pretty tough.

I remember once seeing Saturn Astra in America. I learned that there was a Canada car also have one seen a Buick Allure which is the same thing as a Buick Lacrosse.

It all comes down to being able to resell it. The Mazda SUV is more common while the mini van is different. Good luck Randy.

Rented Mazda 5 a couple of times. Not much torque and quite low to the ground, but incredibly reliable. It was a nice alternative to the MPV

Bid on the Mazda 5. I've had 2 of them. They are kinda rare cool little vans. They hold their value and usually People who have them keep them.
I think if anything it jerked due to the high idle while cold and it could possibly need new mounts. Also I love the old Bull Nose F150s

Hey Randy, how's it going? The A/C compressor on that Mazda 5 should be at the bottom of the belt, under the engine. On the passenger side near the tire, just in front of the axle area. Not a hard replacement, especially on the lift.
In new Zealand the Mazda 5 is a Mazda primacy they are amazing cars

I’m surprised with all the positive comments about the Mazda 5. lol I had two and both had issues with the suspension, rack and pinion, ac and hydraulic motor mount.

Get the Mazda-5 it’s more of a weird vehicle. I am sure Randy will like it. A Mazda Tribute as as the Ford Escape is common and probably easier to find.

The Mazda Tribute is just a Ford Escape, Ford and Mazda worked together on those. Ford engine, Mazda Transmission. They're tough little things.
