So happy to hear that your account has been returned to its prior 'good standing' status. I really, really appreciate the work you've done throughout this whole saga, and the principled stand you took in this specific case. Thank you!
+Aegon of Astora You're welcome and thank you for your support! Keeping the video up may seem trivial to some people but it's important to those of us who followed this story.
I just recently came across your channel and love what you do. You and I think very much alike!! I hear myself saying very similar things about similar douchebags and scammers. I’m so glad to see that nothing happened to you and this whole story is just insane. Obviously this guy had nothing and knew it! I haven’t heard anything recently about the Chameleon so I assume he crawled back under his rock. Keep up the great work!!
I don't even care for retro gaming and the stuff you review. What made me subscribe was your kick shaming series. That content is genius and a true service to the customer on how to spot these scams. Truly cannot stress how important your work is. I salute you
+dangerousanalysis You too got a DMCA from that tool? - oh well, go watch it in China: v.youku.com/v_show/id_XMTUxNzk5Nzg5Ng==.html www.tudou.com/programs/view/GiXZV7gaJxg/
+dangerousanalysis WHAT!?!?! That piece of shit!! Fight it if you can, just right now I got my video reinstated because he didn't take the claim any further. I wonder why he's on such a warpath with that video. Fuck, just give up already dude. That's what I hate about this project, the critics were right the whole time and the people who were perpetuating these lies think that this is the right way to conclude their involvement in this.
StopDrop&Retro Nah I was just running interference; giving him more work to do. It was interesting to see which sites just took it down without giving me any chance to respond (e.g. Vimeo and LiveLeak) to the request from the fake shell company Syncopated Systems.
+dangerousanalysis Higher quality version is here: EDIT: DMCA'd, go watch in China: v.youku.com/v_show/id_XMTUxNzk5Nzg5Ng==.html www.tudou.com/programs/view/GiXZV7gaJxg/
So they can lie, decieve, use other's proprietary hardware to keep a lie... and you can't re upload a video (that you don't even monetize). They are asking for lose
+1300l It's sickening, the whole project is toxic. And everyone involved in it tries to blame everyone else. I do think Mike holds most of the blame, but stuff like this makes me believe that no one involved was innocent or unaware of the wrongdoing going on.
Unfortunately, copyright disputes are mostly handled by the person claiming copyright. In many instances, if you fight a copyright claim, the only person who can say "oh, you're right, this is fair use" is the person who filed the copyright claim in the first place.
+Kevin B True. Even UA-cam told me in the notice that the best way to remove the strike is to contact the copyright holder and get them to retract their claim. But they left me no information to get in touch with John! Thanks UA-cam.
can you do a video about coming up with an open source "retro console" with raspberry pi like i've been talking about (a cartridge system for r-pi and a case)?
+jlebrech my cartridge idea would either be oversized usb sticks (just put a usb memory chip inside a big plastic catridge) or an nfc based catridge (nfc readers are a bit more expensive but easier to implement)
+jlebrech That would be cool, I would need to figure out how to make it work though! Also, I'm sorry to tell you this, but the 20+ minute video I wasn't allowed to upload is that Pi alternative I told you about earlier. It sucks, but we'll have to wait for this copyright BS to go away before you guys can see it.
The 10-14 days is the time the claimant legally has to respond to a counter DMCA-notice, which you filed. If they don't respond by escalating it (by means of lawsuit), it will be o for the website provider, UA-cam, to upload it again without legal action to them.
So you get a copyright notice after everything hits the fan with the Chameleon? My first thought - while running on very little sleep and watching my mind go to strange places - is imagining your hands as puppets as you speak. Then I wonder if Carlsen wants to erase all traces of the system from the internet and used a copyright claim to force the video to be taken down. I would expect copyright notices on anything he and other people involved have any control over if I am right and if he can find all of the UA-cam channels and other accounts sharing info. ...and if you said this already, sorry. Short term memory is kinda shot at the moment too.
1:53 Gonna fill you in, the counter notification goes back to whoever made the claim. Yes, you heard me right. NOT to a third party that looks at it with no bias, but to the person abusing the rules to silence you.
Man, I was thinking about making a video on the whole RetroVGS disaster and out of the whole bunch it was Carlsen I wanted to go easy on. I read an interview with him about the whole thing and he seemed like an OK guy who jumped ship as soon as he understood what was happening. This however is a huge dick move and makes him look real bad.
+R. F. R. I don't think anyone in that whole operation is blameless. The good (like Kevtris) got out when they could. The rest that stayed on just fed off each other and kept up Mike's "smoke & mirrors" act.
StopDrop&Retro You're probably right. I really wanted to be a citizen of Retroland, you know. Not enough to back their absurd indigogo... I'm not that big of an idiot, but enough to consider buying one, as soon as I could see the finished product. It would have been a borderline useless novelty item, but I would have been OK with that. If you thought a project like this was unlikely to to be successful before, just think of how unlikely it is after this fucking disaster.
In the Retrogamingmagazine article, Carlsen claimed Kennedy put him up to this video (Kennedy had previously claimed it was 100% Carlsen's idea). Calrsen could have just owned up to it and stuck with _that_ story, but instead something in his mind values IP and legal action. At the very least, as a human being he could have simply contacted you first.
+Eric Forhan I can see why he may not have contacted me, I said in my upload that I would fight a takedown. But I agree with you, I wish he had contacted me because I would have been willing to at least take his name off the title so at least a search of his name wouldn't bring up the video. Now with this hassle I have no inclination to do him any favors.
It is outrageous that they put those restrictions on your channel for a copyright strike that has not yet been resolved. I get that that video was not Carlsen's finest professional moment, but he put it out there and has to deal with the consequences. Fight the good fight, my friend.
This is late, but this is how the UA-cam DMCA process is supposed to work. Someone claims your video, then if you counter-claim, the person who claims has 10-14 days to file in court, but if they don't, the video goes back up. That's not unusual at all. That's the default UA-cam process.
That sucks. I'm not really too surprised though, since that video does make Carlsen look very bad, especially to people that are unfamiliar with the VGS saga. Hope you get to put the video back up and the strike is removed.
+BawesomeBurf Thank you for your support! My upload didn't make John look bad, John's original upload made John look bad. The damage has already been done, all I did was preserve a video. Whether the video is up or down, his name is associated with the Retro VGS project and his choice to participate in this scheme and that's what he won't be able to censor.
That is pure horse shit that this is even a possible outcome on UA-cam. I have a hard time believing that it is in fact possible to criticize the actions of another person and then receive a copyright strike. It's scummy and goes against free speech.
+djconvoy I'm starting to realize the people involved with Mike were not victims, they're just like him. The good (like Kevtris) got out when they could they didn't stick around and willingly participate in fake prototype videos.
+StopDrop&Retro Sure; like calls to like and all that. Remember, Carlsen took potshots at Kevtris, even on his way out. Sigh. Too much drama. Hope your channel gets sorted out here, soon.
+Mox Pox They're good guys, but I don't think this is a big deal for them. Let's just give it some time and see where it goes. It can die quietly if he doesn't pursue it further or it can really blow up if he sues me. The ball is in John's court now.
You should have seen this coming, though. This really has been a dumpster fire of a situation and it has painted the people involved in a very negative light, as you stated. By simply re-uploading the video in its entirety, you left yourself open to this. You could have avoided it by editing in some commentary, which would have broken up the video and put you safely in the fair use category. Yes, you would probably still be dealing with this since Carlsen wants to scrub himself clean, but you would have easily won in an actual legal dispute if you had taken the time to prepare the whole thing in a more fair use friendly package.
+castlevania78 True, I knew this could happen. I could have protected myself a little more by cutting it up but it's not like that's a rule set in stone. It's a 2 1/2 minute video and half of it is my own commentary, I think I still have a good case of it being transformative as well as some other defenses. I'm glad I took a stand on this but when you take a stand you don't get to choose the punishment, so I just have to take it but it doesn't make me any less committed that what I'm doing is right.
How dare you! You ripped his video... and then transformed it into different material by commenting on it which is covered under copyright law, to educate people which is also covered under copyright law. But how dare you!
So happy to hear that your account has been returned to its prior 'good standing' status. I really, really appreciate the work you've done throughout this whole saga, and the principled stand you took in this specific case. Thank you!

The Coleco Chameleon story continues to get even more bizarre.
coleco's bizzare adventure
That *nice fellow* John*carlsen* DMCA'd my google drive link. He has every permission to *commit grievous bodily harm upon himself*

+John don't file copyright on videos like a little bitch. The Retro VGS is obviously a shame. Fuck you. Deal with it.
+Jacob Prayer Was the "John" you replied to actually John Carlsen? What did he say if you remember?
I really do appreciate that you are standing up for your values and I wish you the best of luck for whatever comes up.
+Prometheus Darkstar Thank you for your support, it means a lot to me.
I love how you uploaded the John Carlson video twice: One without the preface (unlisted) and the other with the preface. Gotta make backups!
So they can lie, decieve, use other's proprietary hardware to keep a lie... and you can't re upload a video (that you don't even monetize).

I agree 100%
If feels like a bad mafia now, where Mike is "the big boss", but everyone evolved do bad things and lies as well

+Leo DS I see. Thanks for clearing that up
just watching hands without a device is so weird lol

You're fighting the good fight, you're doing the right thing. Uncovering deception seldom makes you friends with the people who are trying to deceive.
Welcome to online media like big newspapers have. Embarrass someone and oh wow, stories disappear.
You have great content and always do a large amount of work in your videos and I appreciate that👌. I just subbed
