I'm loving these videos, keep at it and you'll see your subscriber count soar in no time :)
Thanks , mate ! I love your videos as well :)
Thanks, though I'm slightly bummed you beat me to the punch with a laythe SSTO, my design is similar to yours with a nuke stacked above a rapier, gonna have to change it up a bit so it's sufficiently different haha
+Turbo Pumped love the video, got the file, just struggling to get it into space.
Need to massively improve my piloting skills.
+OriginalTharios this isn't my video but can answer anyway. The Whiplash jet flames out at a far lower altitude than the RAPIER
wow, i have seen your comments on about 10 different channels alone, lots of vids, too. Want to check out some other work?
How the hell did you land on Laythe, make 2 gravity assists, get back to kerbin, swing around it a couple of times, and STILL land back on the *runway*?
+Octillerysnacker Savescum + excessive free time + practice.
+Octillerysnacker MAGIC
+Octillerysnacker - Ya no shit my kerbals would have burned up on the first re-entry attempt... we have had "practice"
+Octillerysnacker
I've done missions to Laythe but I usually end up landing in the ocean or I get them stuck in an elliptical orbit and have to launch a rescue.
+Octillerysnacker hours of planning...
I'd be a bit uncomfortable stuck inside a mk1 cockpit for the years it would take to perform this mission.
+Alex Papangelou lets just assume kernels can like switch of their brains during or something...
+Dorssen Derhaeg read the wiki. They hibernate.
Divide it by 4 for real time.
RejectedCapitalist multiply, you mean? Dividing it by 4 would be CAZY in my opinion, that would mean it'd take like a year to get to Jupiter on engines alone...
@@schiefer1103 At the same time, the planets are closer and will need less Delta v and it is closer, I think Scott Manley said something about if it was real life than kerbin would be at eeloo's orbit. Correct me if I'm wrong.
A lesson in simplicity that I should probably learn from! Very elegant design and nicely presented :)
Thanks ! It was your spirit rover to duna video that inspired me do do these minimalist missions actually :)
+Turbo Pumped Wow - I'm honoured!
+Turbo Pumped if I made a video it would only inspire a pyrotechnic.
+Sky Kings RC field thats fun too
meanwhile I am trying to build a rocket that wobbles but not explodes.
+Games LAB inc. ITA Install KJR
+Hariz Izzudin Thanks
+Games LAB inc. ITA MOAR STRUTS
***** lol no it's a mod. It basically make bigass rockets and planes possible without struts.
You, sir, are either magic, or MechJeb 3.
What's the difference ? ;)
+Akshat Singh Any sufficiently advanced technology..... right? ;)
there is one guy out there that dont know how impressive this is.
+Fixti0n Turbo Pumped?
and man you gotta land that thing like a mig 21! fast approace, high sink rate, nose in the air!
I got a good chuckle at 2:33 . It's like the ship just spits her out.
it was a proper shoulder roll :D
then there is me who uses like a 50-tonne rocket to get to the mun and back
Gonna be honest here, I have flown missions to every planet (except Dres) and I still haven't taken the time to build a half decent LKO SSTO. I've managed a couple, but I basically go "how many fuel tanks can I lift with this engine" and build a single stage rocket that can't even return without burning up.
+Jonah Beale Same, I think I'm getting better, but even with my most carefully built planes I still suck at making effective SSTOs and the fuel they use seems to cost more than a normal rocket... :(
As Heinlein said, if you can get your craft in orbit, you're halfway to anywhere.
You've done this with a stock-parts spacecraft and no cheats? O_o
WTF!!! DD:
If it's true you deserve to work with NASA brah.
how did you calculated the slingshots? I must know!
trial and error?
Calculus and a program called KSP TOT
The will of God and unicorn tears
(Insert inspirational asgore quote here)
The true power called save and load
watched the 2.9 ton to Gilly, and now I'm a sub. because HOLY CRAP HE WENT TO FREAKIN GILLY AND BACK! WITH A 2.9 TON ROCKET!
1.6 now I think
It remains a mystery to me why NASA hasn't tried to hire you like 500 times over...
Because life support
Ok, you have to tell me how you learned all this stuff. I admit, I am still quite a noob at KSP, I get the basics, been to jools moons been to duna, but my rockets are waaaay too big, cause massive lag and such. I dont use gravity assists at all, but want to learn to, so pleeeeease, tell me where you learned to do this. :) :)
Unfortunately I didnt find any easy to understand explanation anywhere, so I basically had to fool around with the maneuver nodes and find out for my self ... I learned 3 important things :
1 : unlike a normal encounter you need to be at an angle to the planet/moon you need a gravity asisst from.
2 : If you want a speed increase, you need to pass BEHIND the planet - and if you want to decrease your speed pass in FRONT of the planet .
3 : The Jool system with its many heavy moons is an exellent place to learn gravity assists .
Turbo Pumped Ok, thanks :) :)
+Turbo Pumped thanks, this helped me to
+Antypas Andreas i envy you, i can't even get to other planets successfully
:(
Silver_Octopus haha, dont worry, it just took me some time :) :) it comes naturally. If you can get to the moons of kerbin, you'll be fine :)
How were you able to survive reentry at kerbin at 4000m/s, unless i lowered the reentry heating setting i always burn up. So please tell me how i need to know!
I wish I was Hibella :( would see space and stuff
+much0J But then your mind will break
you'd be sitting down for a decade
@@quentick3230 they're photosynthetic, it's not a problem lol
I work hard and get proud of getting a satellite orbiting the Mun. This looks purely godly to me
What was the music at 5:10 and such??
It's in the description -> Future World Music - Aqua Vitae
So good! Sat here watching all your vides on a binge haha
Score one for Turbo Pumped, and zero for laythe gg
He went to laythe and back in 15 tons
I couldn't get off kerbin 25 tons...
Meanwhile I can barely build an SSTO, and I've been playing for 3 years!
Maybe because you are 3 years old?(profile photo)
Games LAB inc. ITA Jup, I started playing immediately on the day I was born
+TKWeckroth i know the feel, it took me 2 years before i got a stock ssto into orbit, without cargo... still cant take more than a 1m mkII cargo bay into low orbit..
+TKWeckroth it took me 18 months to get an SSTO with an orange tank in to space ... and still don't get it back in one piece every time.
+steven kutschat I build a few days ago a 1 seat Minmus SSTO (+350 untits of Fuel after i've landed the SSTO), than a 3 seat Minmus SSTO and than a cheaper 1 seat Minmus SSTo and at least a Eve SSTO without return... but i've never tried a cargo SSTO.
2 questions, 1 how do you have so many views so quickly, amd how do you not have a ton of subs because of it?
The first song is five armies, but what about the second? and the ones after that?
NASA called, they want you to lead their next mission to Mars.
420 science? :P
2Shae no like 4,500
Check the surface sample.
Wow... I have no idea why your subscribers are in the 100 000s, but they should be! This kind of stuff is God Like!
Wow, this is amazing. Editing is great too.
hey turbo pumped you should really make a tutorial on gravity assists and suicide burns. im sure a lot of people want to know
But why the old version of the game?
holy, what happened to the trajectory marker at 5:00
OH MY FUCKING GOD THAT WAS AMAZING
Wow... i just can build Rapier+Nuke SSTOs to land on Minmus (and still having 200 units of fuel left) Or a Rapier+Ion SSTO to get to Eve... (without return xD R.I.P Jeb.. But i will bring him home!)
i created my ssto with timewarp
first Problem : Lack of fuel
1 Take Off With Timewarp 2x Speed
2 Getting orbit
3 Try find fastest Land On Mun
4 landing on mun and ran out of fuel
5 No Reuseable ssto
what i do now, i need ore tank and drill ISRU?.
Oh, I cant even get of the runway!
Very impressive, I could never do that. But someone named Nefrums on the forum did a 14 ton ship to land on all five of Jool's moons. Do you think you could beat it?
I would post a link, but the Kerbal forums are a bit wacky right now.
Very nice video but isn't it more efficient to get out of jool's SOI by burning retrograde when exiting Laythe, getting a very low jool's periapsis and then burning prograde there rather than doing a slingshot with Tylo ? I remember seeing a Scott Manley video on that.
Just a question, why did you choose Rapier? Why not the Panther or the Ramjet engine (I forgot the name). Great video though! Inspires me a lot!
I wish I was that good. I have more struts on my Laythe-Project than this has parts... - and I haven't even made it there and back again... - still working out the kinks...
This guy: Gets to LKO with 2/3 of the fuel remaining.
Me: Just manages to get out of the atmosphere after using 200 tons of fuel.
I have question is gravity on Laythe for using EVA jetpack and flying with jetpack bc i want to go to Laythe
...what's with the janky af orbital projection around Tylo? Is that normal, or does it have something to do with the other moons, or what?
So you go across hundreds of kilometers to layth and back and you're going to land on something only a few meters thick?
I commend you.
4:59 GOD what was that predicted orbit? I didn't know you could do zigzags in space!
Hilbella *does* have eyebrows! Hah! Disliked!
(not rlly brah dis is fakin amazing)
Challenge for you: flying 2000 ton plane with piston engines, in Do X style. I did that so it is possible.
0/10 didn't land 50 rockomax jumbo 64s on Moho on return trip
I can barely get an SSTO into orbit, let alone all the way out to LAYTHE. Awesome job.
shit, i can't even make an SSTO capable of LKO and here you are, sending it to another planet.
all the craft that i, and others, have made that dont take off till the very end of the runway...... that reminds me a lot of f-14 tomcats getting shot off a carriers deck.
Im wondering how you would build/fly these missions if you had to consider life support as well :P
I've watched all of your videos once but the minimalist ones i keep coming back to so i can learn more and more :)
Kolibri because size? the kolibri gun was relatively small to, so i'm guessing it's because size.
I noticed two important things.
1. You seem to use that RAPIER-slung-under-a-NERVA design a lot. Is there a reason for that?
2. Hilbella took off her helmet on EVA _before_ doing an atmospheric analysis. Shouldn't she have done that in the other order?
1. Its the best way to make a single rapier/nuke combo and gives great TWR in nuclear mode which removes the need for oxidizer. It means a small ship with great range, but balancing the asymetric thrust is difficult though .
2. Kerbals acts first and thinks later.
Towards the end, I swear the song keeps saying 'MORPHINE, KAZAHK, MORPHINE, KAZAHK'
Also absolutely awesome craft!
Damn it ! now i hear it too :)
Glad you liked the ship by the way .
Like these vids. How long do you spend on each one? roughly?
:D
I thought it was accelerated at the beginning ;-;
Don't forget to close the intake, it causes drag
Poor Hilbella, 13 years in a tiny capsule. Amazing job! I really like how you use the Mk.1 pod instead of a cockpit. It gives the craft a more unique look...
And weight reduction i think
With your epic skills, you could probably get to Eeloo with a 22 ton craft.
Holy crap XD I started playing about a week ago and I love KSP :D
Meanwhile Im still figuring out how some of my aircraft dont work...
Its funny how poeple make mk2 and mk3 sstos while turbo pumped goes small as possible
How do you control your plane?
Turbo pump: *By transferring fuel*
Not taking away from your design cus its awesome, but you maneuvering is even better!
what was the music when hilbella was returning from laythe?
Blank holes by Jingle punks
The last one after that is aqua vitae by future world music
tanks m8
Just wow, you are obviously a master in your craft! Keep it coming!
and i can barely get into orbit and back with a full sized SSTO...
Something depressing about that taking 13 years. :P
meanwhile I'm over here can barely get into orbit with a massive ass rocket....
Meanwhile I can't make a working ssto that actually goes to orbit...
what planet is laythe in real life...or is it made up
I believe its a titan analogue.
Mr G 1324 laythe is an earth/kerbin analogue, tylo is an analogue to iapetus and ganymede, vall is an analogue to europa, pol is an analogue of a pollen grain and bop is possibly an analogue to hyperion
SECRET CHANNEL bop is not possible it orbits jool not sarnus. and laythe is a io analogue.
This things name means "hummingbird" in german but it sure doesn't fly like one
I'm curious as to whether you've tried using the new Mk1 cockpits instead of the capsules. They definitely look nicer, and might have better supersonic aerodynamics.
But weigh a fuckton more. The mk1 cockpit weighs in at 1.5 tons i thnk and the mk1 capsule at 0.95 although i dont know exactly how much but capsules are lighter
how do you even..... i have 300h in KSP and i have never been close to doing that
That wouldn't work on 1.0.5... the retry would turn everything into charcoal as the heat is going on the wrong angle. (Maybe I am doing something wrong).
last half of the mission was done in 1.05 - pay close attention to the fuel tanks in the latter part of the game, you will see they have changed to 1.05 style tanks .
im such a noob I have been to the moon twice and thats it (well 3 times if you count the one that
crashed into the moon)
Mr G 1324 i have been to the moon twice and minmus twice
Try making is to all the planets in the solar system in one ship! I believe in you!
Awesome craft ! And very good use of orbital mecanics !
Awesome! If that was in career mode on normal difficulty you must do nothing but play KSP. I'm so envious. Perhaps I should try the sandbox mode. Career mode is taking way too long, I'll be 90 years old before I do anything like that. Besides my copy doesn't update so I have to start all over again with every update I'm to OCD to play any other way than in career mode on normal difficulty. Still running 1.0.4 Now I'm pissed every time an update comes out. 1.0.5 can wait. Anyone know how to update outside of the launcher and without just downloading a fresh copy of the new version?
This restarting with every update is getting a little old. But I digress. Awesome job and video, Turbo Pumped!
+tstatech 1-get the 1.05 = install it in new dir
2-copy 1.05 into existing 1.04 directory
3 add more boosters :)
+tstatech What Yuri said. Except don't copy the whole thing, just /saves. Sometimes new versions will break something, but usually everything is ok.
That was damn impressive!
(subbed)
Bradley whiatance did it better.
But its still a very good craft
are you from finland
(because kolibri is finnish word)
Not working anymore after 1.0. Aerodynamic heating will burn your spaceship into pieces.
Tony Yau at least according to the description, the video was filmed after 1.0...
You are cooler than Scott Manley! Amazing! )
Amazing piloting! Brilliant design!!!
lol. im trying so hard designing an ssto just to get to lko. good job dude!
+kitharodos21 You are the only one who disliked.
i always find it amazing how close you come to running out of fuel
Next time A.I.R.B.R.A.K.E.S will be worth it i think
This is insane... You REALLY deserve more subs man...
Now i want to play KSP... after playing 10 minutes i realize that i cant even get to the mun so i go to be and cry.
took me 3 months to get to the mun. another 3 to work out a return.
how is this possible without burning up ? Same goes for your mission to Minmus - having watched quite a few youtube videos, I decided to try aerobraking in Jool's atmosphere, then landing on Laythe with no heat shields, then returning to Kerbin with no heatshields... it ALWAYS ends in almost instant explosion, no matter how gently I enter. Has re-entry been significantly redone in some later version? (I'm talking about 1.5)
Yes re-entry on kerbin is slightly worse now, re-entry on jool is WAY more dangerous. Have not tried laythe lately but i guess its the same story there.
@@turbopumped6490 well I've learned my lesson now and I don't dare venture anywhere near an atmosphere without heatshields (unless it's Duna). In fact even heatshields don't guarantee survival, you can still burn if your deacent is too steep - I tried landing on Kerbin by zeroeing my orbital velocity and landing straight down at a 90 degree angle and it didn't end well.
I also tried aerocapture in Eve's atmosphere and if i aimed too low, It would burn through the heatshields, if I aimed too high I would eventually run out of ablator...
wow O_o also, I didn't know that there were multiple systems in ksp, have yet ventured past the moon :D
Laythe is in the system of the sun, it's a moon of Jool, and Jool is Jupiter in game.
did you switch versions inbetween making the vid?
you should add your voice besides that *clap clap clap* good job
Hilbella DOES have eyebrows.
