      I built a space shuttle which launches quite well, but I can't get it into an orbit though...
      I tried to make it as realistic as possible by using monoprop for orbital manoeuvres but I haven't quite cracked it yet. :)

    Holy CRAP!!!! But it makes total sense. With the nuke now being able to run on LF alone, and the craft being so lightweight, the Delta V on that thing would be awesome! Question, have you tried it with the Rapier Engines yet? They can stay on air breathing mode for longer higher, or at lest that's what I've experienced. :)

    • @turbopumped6490
      @turbopumped6490  9 років тому +20

      yes i got a rapier version too, and it got the exact same delta V as the jet - the jet compensates for lower speed with lighter weight and slightly less fuel consumption in this case. So i choose the jet since its a lot cheaper : )

      I usually use as small wings as i can and with little or no control surfaces and let the reaction wheels do most of the control (demands careful balancing) - this aproach doesnt work well for longer heavier ships though .
      then I angle the wings slightly so the fuselage goes paralel with the airstream.
      But how you fly the plane is perhaps even more important.
      This ascent profile usualy works well for me :
      let the plane build up speed to 300 m/s after taking off, then pull up to a 30 degree climb,
      flatten out at 7000 m and let the plane build up speed to 700 m/s then pull up to a 10-15 degree climb till it reaches 22000 meters then activate the nuke .

    I'm guessing English isn't your first language, because you tend to make some common errors people learning it do. some tips for the future:
    -you often say 'have' when you mean 'has' (you put "the midget have landed", when it should be "the midget has landed")
    -generally, in English there is no space between the end of a sentence and the exclamation mark!
    - 'is' comes after singular, 'are' after plural (genedin's trials ARE not over yet)
    -when referring to somebody's thing (genedin's trials) you add an apostrophe before the 's' to indicate that they are genedin's trials.
    didn't see much else in this video, but hopefully these help with making the text on future videos!

    • @turbopumped6490
      @turbopumped6490  8 років тому +43

      The inline cocpit produced too much drag at high angle of attack on my little SSTO , and flipped it over.
      It also have lower heat tolerance than the command pod .
      The command pod is simply the superior choice for small SSTOs, it doesnt create more drag either - strangely enough .

      Unlikely. Scott Manley already pointed out how ineffective Munar slingshots are around Kerbin, since a ship moving on an escape trajectory passes through the Mun's gravity too quickly to experience any significant acceleration, and Ike's gravity is even weaker than the Mun's.

    I once got distracted by my cat whilst plotting a burn to the mun, ended up going all the way to minmus by mistake and until it came into view, I had no idea! Needless to say the lack of planned fuel for the return trip meant I had to abandon my rocketplane at about 7,000m on Kerbin and splash down next to the KSC using just poor Jeb's jetpack fuel to slow him down. He survived, but all the science he collected was lost!

      I once screwed around in the games code and created an engine that has so high of an isp that it uses 0.0 electric charge per second (just electric)

    YOU!!! What am I supposed to tell Werner *now*? "Oh, we're not possibly read for a manned interplanetary flight Werner, the astronauts will just have to wait a few more years while we refine our techniques and tests." crap. I'll have to try something now. lol

    I felt this way when I did my tylo landings. I had a ship that could land anywhere. The catch is, BARELY on tylo. It took me about 50 tries to get it to land on tylo in testing, and 2 vehicle swap-out with the mothership to get one that worked. I could probably send you the craft file link, to see if you wanted to try...

    Color me impressed. I've tried similar engine combos for an SSTO but never anything nearly that small, thus never with anywhere near that range. And I can barely believe you were able to put it down on a runway with the last drop of fuel like that. Hats off sir.

    I think : When you were at free space , you restart the game , activate hyperedit , do little magic , again restart game and contenue in mission. Its the only way , how to do it.
    Only joking , great work.

    a useful thing to remember for emergency needs for a few extra m/s is the EVA fuel. It feels ok to use one tank at least. More than that is a bit cheaty though ;p
