I feel 2:33 is missed by anyone not a current or former trombone player. The flawless jump between the low and high notes is easily missed if you don't know they're there. Arthur Pryor is basically to the trombone as Paganini was to the violin, virtuosity to the point of absurdity.

145th ANNIVERSARY HIS BIRTH TODAY ARTHUR PRYOR (September 22, 1870 - June 18, 1942) He was an American trombone virtuoso, bandleader, and soloist with the Sousa Band.
I have a Conn trombone made in the early 19 hundreds, .465 bore, essentially identical to the instrument that Arthur Pryor played, and an Arthur stamped mouthpiece. After comparing this horn to a modern tenor trombone, and listening to these old acoustic recordings, I am amazed at his impeccable technique and rich tone. He was a phenomenon in his time, and he still is.
In sports people keep getting better and faster and breaking new world record, with trombone no one will ever be better than Arthur Pryor. What a fkksksjsksing legend, even way better than Joseph Joseph allessi.
Beautiful! This is the first time I've heard this composition in the original by Arthur Pryor himself. I have heard it in about 10 different versions by 10 different musucuans including Joseph Alesi or Christian Lindberg. But this original version is unique.
Arguably the best trombonist to ever walk this earth.
Also for 1901 this recording quality is really dang good
The first trombone solo ever recorded.

Considering the equipment he had at his disposal this is a miraculous performance!
Wow how come I’ve only heard of this guy just now? What an absolute beast of a trombonist.
amazing technic still impresses me, even with manufacturing technology being what it was in the early 20th century
1901 the technique for over a century ago is unbelievable
Have always wanted to hear him play this. Thanks!

Is this sped up? ‘Just listening to how the accompanying band are playing it…..doesn’t seem right somehow….
