      in my personal opinion he is the best American Trombonist of all time. There are different styles depending on witch country you are from. Vibrato is a great example European trombonists like Christian Lindberg use vibrato a lot while American Trombonists use it conservatively.

    Joe is the Pavarotti of trombone virtuosi, i.e., he's just better than any of the rest. Fantastic Polka is supposed to be one of Pryor's toughest pieces, and Joe knocks it off with ease...he even toys with it with tasteful trills and high notes!!

    This man is a master. I know I've said it a thousand times, but he had the best delivery of any trombonist alive. I'll stand by that statement.
    What qualifies me to make such a statement? Not much, really. I played all the way through grade school, college and now in a community band in Lake Charles, LA. I have a degree in biology and not music, but I've had enough music exposure and experience to make such a statement. He's the greatest I've ever heard.

    I was a boner several decades ago. High school and 2 yrs college.
    I still remember the first time I heard him, Blue Bells of Scotland.
    I could not believe what I was hearing.
    The speed and accuracy, especially how lightning fast he could adjust his embouchure between the very low notes and the very high ones.
    And making it all seem effortless, that was magic.

    Miss Natalie, I appreciate your comments, And I'm familiar with Mr. Lewis, and agree. I never said or inferred he was less than a great player. But his approach is a bit smeary. And I would not have the same problems. Perhaps different, but not that one. There are many players out there that are much cleaner, and in my opinion, much more musical.

    What is the difference between this piece and Air Varie?

    • @gabrielbustos2706
      @gabrielbustos2706 5 років тому +1

      Stephanie Curry air varie just uses the intro from fantastic polka. after the big cadenza it starts a different theme and variations, instead of the original polka melody

    • @stephaniecurry45
      @stephaniecurry45 5 років тому

      Gabriel Bustos okay thank you. So air varie is based on polka?

    • @kadenmanley9609
      @kadenmanley9609 5 років тому +1

      all the "theme and variations" songs are all very similar because of the time period. Composers were not wild about trying new things so they all don't stray much from the key signature and are very repetitive. As a consequence they all sound very similar.
